Annabeth's PoV
New York City at sunset was one of my favourite scenes from a height. The orange of the sunset brought out the city lights and it was in perfect contrast with the blue and purples of the approaching night. From the height of almost 110 feet above the ground, of a building in construction, I looked down upon all the vehicles zooming by. I sat down and let my feet dangle from the ledge letting the cool breeze flow through my hair and send shivers down my spine. My leather jacket did the best to protect me.
I had been so lost with my surroundings I didn't notice someone standing behind me. Not until the person came and sat next to me and chuckled in a deep voice, "I thought I'd find you at some construction site, Wise Girl."
I didn't have to turn to look at him, I would recognize that voice anywhere. "Ahh Agent Seaweed Brain, so nice to see you too," I said, turning his way and jokingly giving him a mock salute as a sly grin tugged at my lips.
He was dressed in a white V neck T-shirt, leather jacket similar to mine and jeans. His ID was attached to his belt most likely because I couldn't see it anywhere. He turned to face me with an annoyed look and rolled his eyes at me but I could see the twinkle in his eyes and his charming lopsided grin behind his facade. His sea green eyes bore into my grey as we continued to stare into each other's eyes, catching up. After our little eye conversation his expression shifted to sadness for less than a second before his whole demeanor changed into a little serious but more or less relaxed one. I knew what I was in for tonight but I pushed that thought out of my mind for until the time actually came.
Even after so many years I never really got used to the fact that my best friend was an FBI Agent and was trying to get a hold of me for my crimes. Of course he was never able to prove it, because I had always made it very difficult for him. I left no trace of my crimes. But he knew it was me because of my style of crime.
He signed deeply and in an exhausted but calm tone whispered to me, "Why do you always make it so difficult, Wise Girl?"
I grinned at his words remembering a distant memory:
Percy had been offered a job in washington, I had felt horrified thinking he would take the job and leave her. I remembered him having a similar feeling when I was going to join a group called the Hunters and travel across the world, leaving him behind. He had turned down the job for me, I had almost cried in relief. Later that day I had held a private party for him and visited him with a blue cupcake. While we talked he had tried to confess his feelings for me but I had just tried to keep my laughter in, because honestly seeing Percy try to confess while stuttering the whole time was absolutely hilarious. He had complained in the most childish manner telling me, " You're not making this easy for me Annabeth!" I had put my arm around his neck and responded, "I'm never going to make this easy for you Seaweed Brain" and had kissed him right there and then, while i'm pretty sure he felt like his brain was melting through his body, and he could stay like that forever.
Coming out of my thoughts, I looked him in the eye, put my arm around his shoulder and with the biggest grin whispered into his ear, "I'm never going to make this easy for you Seaweed Brain!" I didn't show him any signs of sadness because even though we were no longer a couple I was happy that we remained friends and occasionally hooked up on mutual feelings.
Looking into his twinkling and shining with warmth filled eyes, I could see him remembering the same memory I had. Coming out of his thoughts he looked at me with those eyes, I almost melted. It was the same look he had given me the first time he told me he loved me. I was so focused on him I didn't seem to notice that it was dark now. I looked at him with curiosity as he got up and dusted himself off. He gave me his hand, and one look in his eyes told me we were going to have dinner at his place and then maybe have dessert. I took his hand and he started to lead me towards the steps.
When we arrived at the starting of the staircase Percy started to whine, "Why do you always have to come so high up?"
I stared at him before I burst out laughing soon on the verge of tears before I gasped out between breaths, "You...hahaha...b-haha-big...BABY!" And before I could even stop it I burst out laughing again, this time almost falling down the stairs because I lost balance. Lucky for me I had a Percy with me and wouldn't let anything major happen to me.
When he got a hold of me and I started to calm down he complained again, "It wasn't even that funny!" Which made me burst into laughter again and I started to snort. To this I just laughed even harder until I was holding onto my stomach for dear life and Percy began to laugh lightly.
We finally made it down the stairs to be met with a parked Harley and two helmets. "So you came prepared?" I was impressed. I had always liked motorcycle rides with Percy. Lucky for him I hadn't got my own when coming here. But unluckily for him I was in a playful mood and it sorta turned me on when I rode with him. So he was in for a big tease on the ride home.
