Chapter 1: This is Undertale
I stretch and get up from my bed. Walking over to my closet, I grab my pink, wool, turtle-neck sweater and blue jeans before putting them on. I was about to walk out of my bedroom when I remembered, I finished my homework at three in the morning.
Oh, sorry about that, if you're confused. I'm Rachel Butterfield, a thirteen-year-old girl in 2020. Also yes, I do my homework at 3 A.M. It's so much easier than doing it in the middle of the day, when Mom is up.
I smile, happy I don't have to face my mom for a few more hours and turn towards my bed. I pale, there was a person in black, in front of me. They looked to be about 7 feet tall and I couldn't see their face, only a red outline of their eyes with red mist bleeding from them.
Being a normal person, I turn and scream, only to be grabbed by the mysterious man. They put a hand over my mouth to silence my screams and pull me back. I struggle with all my might, but they only continue their journey backwards. Suddenly, they throw me into a blue portal. The portal slowly closes, turning everything blue as I feel my self being tugged down.
I look down and see water, I can feel the fear growing in the pit of my stomach. I take a deep breath in and brace for impact. I can only feel the tug of gravity, though. I open my eyes and see the water swirling around me going back to where it was before. Wow this is beautiful, almost as beautiful as bo-... Wait, why can't I remember... Oh yeah! I was going to say Ebott town. Wait, where am I? What's happening?
I feel the questions racing through my head, until I landed on something soft and everything went black.
Hours later...
"Time to wake up. Come on. Come on!" I push the woman away. She huffs, before leaning next to my ear, I could almost hear the grin on her face.
"Frisk is coming over today~" I fling the covers off me and sit up, looking at my mom. She laughs at the ear-to-ear grin on my face.
"Really!?" Mom nods and I get up, pushing her out of my room. I look down and realize, I was still wearing my clothes from yesterday. Should I wear them today too? I don't think anyone will notice. I open the door to my room and fly onto the living room couch. I look out the window that was right above the couch and wait for Frisk to come.
After a few minutes, a red car pulls into my drive-way and I get a huge grin on my face. I almost tripped many times, trying to get to the door before Frisk could ring the door bell. I fling open the front door and smile at Frisk, they smile back. Frisk was born intersex, meaning they weren't born with a gender, just incase you were confused.
"What's up?" Frisk asks me, I shrug.
"Nothing much." Frisk sighs.
"Same. Hey, do you want to go play outside?" I nod my head and motion for Frisk to follow me to my backyard. When we get outside, I turn and face Frisk.
"What did you want to tell me?" We agreed to say, "do you want to play outside?" whenever we had to tell something to the other. Frisk gets their usual determined smile on their face.
"Want to go explore Mt. Ebott?" I frown.
"Wouldn't our parents be scared if we disappeared?" Frisk give me a soft smile, comforting. Almost.
"I'm going to go either way but if you're scared, you can stay behind." I shake my head.
"I'm not leaving you alone." Frisk giggles and puts their left hand on my right shoulder.
"I'm glad I could be friends with someone as loyal as you." I smile and put my left hand on theirs.
"I need to grab my shoes then we can go." I say, Frisk nods and takes their hand off my shoulder. I run inside and put on white socks, along with my white sneakers. I run back outside and over to Frisk.
"Ready?" They ask, I nod.
"Ready as I'll ever be." Frisk smiles and pushes me down to the ground. We hurry and army crawl our way into the bushes, underneath the window, where the parents couldn't see us. Me and Frisk get into crouching positions and slowly, walk over to the fence. Frisk cups their hands so I can jump over the fence. I step into their hand and jump, Frisk pushing against my foot so I could make it over. I got onto the top of the fence and reach down for Frisk. They grab my hand and pull themself onto the fence, we jump over the top of the fence, once Frisk is up. We get into crouching positions again and walk under the window on the side of my house.
After we get past the window, we bolt. One of my neighbors was out in their yard and waved hi at me and Frisk. We waved back and continued to run towards Mt. Ebott. After running for about 15 minutes we reach the bottom of the mountain. I pant from being so out of breath, Frisk was too.
"M-maybe we should g-go back..." Frisk looks up at me like I'm crazy.
"I'm s-sorry my friend but if we go back, t-they're never letting us leave their s-sight." I sigh, Frisk was right about that. I made the choice to come so, I would have to pay the consequences.
"Can we at l-least rest for a bit?" Frisk shakes their head.
"People are going to b-be looking for us, we need to get h-higher before we can rest." I nod and look up the mountain, it was huge. I could feel my legs screaming at me to rest, but I ignored the pain and continued up the mountain with Frisk by my side. We climbed for a few minutes before we rested in a spot full of big rocks and trees. I look up from my lap and gasp. The view of our town was so beautiful...
"THERE THEY ARE!" I jolt and look down, there were people from our town climbing up the mountain. A man was very close to reaching me.
"It's okay," he said. "I'm here to take you home." I feel Frisk grab my shirt and pull me up, I hurry to get up. We climb the mountain much faster this time. With the help of our adrenaline, we gained some space between us and our neighbors.
"OVER HERE!" I turn and look at Frisk, they were by a cave entrance. I run over to them, careful not to slip and we run into the cave. It was pitch black inside, I grab Frisk's hand and walk a little closer to them. That was a mistake. I ended up pushing Frisk down some kind of hole. Our hands were still entwined, so I was pulled down too. The hole suddenly got brighter, I felt something soft, then it went black.
Hours later...
I slowly open my eyes and look over at Frisk, they were out cold on a bed of golden flowers. Our hands were still entwined, I quickly rip my hand out of theirs feeling my cheeks heat up. I look around me to see we were in some sort of room, and there was a hallway in front of me. I grab Frisk's arm and shake them until their eyes flutter open.
"W-what..?" Frisk says groggily, I smile then look up. HOW!? That fall must have been, like, 4 stories! I look down under me. A bed of flowers broke our fall!? HOW!? I heard Frisk gawking and looked over at them, they were looking up then down at the bed of flowers.
"Where are we?" I ask, Frisk looks over at me.
"I have no idea. Wait... Could this be the underground?" I tilt my head to the side and shrug.
"I guess." Frisk gets their determined smile again and I frown, shaking my head quickly. "OH NO, we are NOT going to explore. We are going to find a way back up and that is final." I turn my head away from Frisk and cross my arms.
Frisk starts making puppy whimpers and giving me puppy dog eyes. "No."
"Please?" I shake my head.
"Pweeeaaase?" I shake my head again. Frisk paused for a second.
"I'll give you all my white chocolate if you come explore with me~" Now THAT got my attention, I LOVE white chocolate. I sigh giving into Frisk's wishes.
"Fine." Frisk raises their fists in triumph. I scoff and a smirk crawls onto my face.
"Let's go!" Frisk gets up and reaches their hand out to me. I grab it and pull myself up, I look back over to the hallway. I walk into the hallway and Frisk rushed to be by my side. After a bit of walking, I see a huge doorway. Where does this lead to?
