Chapter 1: The Night Before

On the balcony of his hotel room, Fuutarou Uesugi, clad in a light blue bathrobe, gently leaned on the railing as he gazed out upon the clear starry sky and the bright, nearly full moon.

The next time he would be looking up at the night sky, he would be in Hawaii, enjoying the start of his week-long honeymoon with his newlywed wife. It was a trip he had been excited about for a long time, and in typical Fuutaro fashion, he had already made an itinerary of all the events and activities he and his wife would attend. He knew there was no way they would fully stick to the schedule - Yotsuba was far too spontaneous to be confined to a preset order of events - but he knew that it would still give them the necessary structure so as to make the most of this trip.

He was also excited to finally have some intimate alone time with wife, far away from the rest of her sisters. While he did truly love the other quintuplets, it would annoy him to no end that they would never give him and Yotsuba any alone time. Whether it was something going on with the Nakano Cafe, or him bumping heads with Itsuki at the High School they both taught at, there always seemed to be a Nakano around to give him trouble or interrupt his time with Yotsuba. Heck, even Ichika, who most of the time was away filming on location, would have a paranormal knack for calling up Yotsuba during the few times they were able to be alone on dates, as if there was some grand conspiracy to never allow the couple to be truly alone.

However that would change soon, as Ichika was about to move to California in the winter and the Nakano Cafe was in the process of expanding towards opening a second location in the coming months. Sure he would still have to work at that high school with Itsuki for maybe a year or two more before he was able to have enough capital saved up to start his own private business, but this honeymoon still signified the beginning of his much quieter life with Yotsuba.

"What an awful joke they tried to play on me", thought Fuutarou to himself as he recalled that morning in the lobby of the hotel where they had held the wedding reception. "As if that asinine Quintuplet Game wasn't enough, they just couldn't help but try and mess with me one last time before we left. Joining us on our honeymoon? Man, they just don't know when to quit teasing me, do they?"

Fuutarou was awakened from his thoughts as he heard a sliding door open. He stayed in place and waited as he was soon greeted from behind by two arms that wrapped around his body before she settled her body, to the right of him, leaning on his side as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

"What'cha thinking about Fuutarou?" inquired Yotsuba as she took in the view from the balcony while continuing to snuggle her husband from the side. Just like the man she was hugging, she was also wearing a bathrobe, but her's was a pale green color.

"Oh, just wanted to take one last look at the Japan night sky before our trip," replied Fuutarou with a gentle smile. Night skies have always been something that both of the newlyweds held special, ever since their first unofficial date over five years ago on Labor Thanksgiving, which ended with them sharing a beautiful night sky from a nearby playground.

"Sure is beautiful," she agreed. "I wonder how the night sky will differ in Hawaii?"

"Well, other than the position of the stars, it should basically be the same," retorted Fuutarou as he finally turned toward his wife and gave her a quick kiss. "However, it will be just as special since I'll be looking at it with you."

Yotsuba couldn't help but blush at her husband's words. She had noticed that ever since this morning, after they had met with her sisters in preparation for the trip, he had been acting more romantic than he had ever been before, as if some switch was flipped in his brain from the experience.

"I honestly don't know how much sleep I'll get tonight, the anticipation is killing me if I'm being honest," continued Fuutarou. "It's kind of crazy to think that we've been together five years and this will be the first time we will be alone together for an entire week."

At the conclusion of his words, Yotsuba's expression slowly twisted into one of concern as she slightly averted her gaze from Fuutarou, which he quickly noticed.

"Don't get me wrong Yotsuba, I love your sisters as if they were my own (well I guess they are my own now), but you don't know how long I've waited for the opportunity to spend some extended time with you and you alone."

Yotsuba's concern had become anxiety at that point as she knew something was wrong. She reestablished eye contact and proceeded cautiously.

"Fuutarou are you okay?" pleaded Yotsuba, earning a confused look from her husband. "Please don't tell me you got a concussion earlier when you bumped your head against the headboard?"

Fuutarou's first reaction to her comment was to blush at the mention of what they did just a little while ago that led to that incident with the headboard, but he soon got over his embarrassment as it quickly morphed into his own anxiety.

"W-what are you talking about Yotsuba?"

"I'm just concerned that you forgot that my sisters will be with us in Hawaii, even though we told you so just this morning."

"WAIT, WHAT?!" exclaimed Fuutarou as he covered his mouth so as not to yell directly in his wife's face. He then released himself from their shared embrace and started pacing for a few seconds before he returned to his original position and placed both of his hands on Yotsuba's shoulders.

"Yotsuba, honey, are you telling me that wasn't just a twisted joke?" Fuutarou begged his wife, hoping against hope that this was still part of some prank.

"Of course not, I would never pull a prank on you of that caliber, that would be way too mean!" Yotsuba assured him, though it was met with skepticism as he muttered "Quintuplet Game" under his breath before hanging his head and looking at the ground.

"I'm sorry Fuutarou, I know you were looking forward to this trip but you have to understand, this might be the last time I'll get to spend time with all of my sisters for who knows how long."

Fuutaro raised his head back up as he saw an emotional Yotsuba continue.

"Ichika's next project is in Kyoto and after that she will be moving overseas, while Nino and Miku will be busy managing multiple cafes in different cities. It might be years before we could all hang out again! I know this is a selfish request. I know this is supposed to be our honeymoon, but please Fuutarou, please allow my sisters to join us!"

Fuutaro could feel the weight behind her words, everything she said was true and for someone like her, who had always experienced everything in the company of her sisters, the future was scary. If only to give her comfort on this trip, even though he knew it was against his better judgement, he knew what he had to do.

"Well the flight leaves in less than 10 hours so it's too late to do anything about it. I guess I'll just suck it up and deal with it," replied Fuutarou with a sigh that eventually turned into a soft smile.

Yotsuba erupted into a bearhug as she thanked her husband to no end, as she promised she'd make sure that even though her sisters would be there that it would be a honeymoon to remember.

Fuutarou had no doubts it would be memorable, he just hoped and prayed it would be memorable for all the right reasons.

Fuutarou had a difficult time sleeping that night, as one major issue weighed on his mind.

Although it had seemed that over the years the other quintuplets had gradually started to move on with their lives, his wedding with Yotsuba seemed to have caused some massive relapse for the sisters. While they had always taken every opportunity to tease him and even regularly intruded on his attempts to be alone with Yotsuba, things kicked up a gear during the final few months before the wedding.

Just recently, Itsuki would playfully tease Fuutarou when they crossed paths in the hallways, a complete 180 from the usually strict and serious demeanor that she presented during school hours, which has caused rumors to sprout up among the student body that the two teachers were dating. Not only that, she would also start eating lunch with Fuutarou every single day when prior to that she had spent the majority of her lunch breaks with a few female teachers she had become good friends with during the year.

Miku had already been using Fuutarou as a protective shield from strangers hitting on her for the past couple years and it was something he was used to at this point. He'd always played along, allowing her to pretend to be his girlfriend, since this situation only occured during circumstances where the purser couldn't take a hint that Miku wasn't interested and he figured her shy and gentle nature prevented her from being too direct to say it outright. However the instances started increasing exponentially during the weeks before the wedding, as even the slightest bit of interest shown in her direction from the opposite sex had led her to seek out and cling to Fuutarou whenever he was available, as if it was some sort of unconscious defense mechanism. This was extremely "convenient" since he was around her way more often than normal during those last few weeks before the wedding. This was because Miku would incessantly ask Fuutarou to taste test recipes of all of the food she would plan to make for the wedding rehearsal and wedding reception, since the Nakano Cafe would be catering both.

Ichika always made sure to keep in touch with the couple when she was away, never going more than two weeks without at least one phone call. However during her final project before the wedding, she began to text Fuutarou several times daily, ranging from how filming was going to asking Fuutarou how he was feeling. Considering it was only her second project outside of Japan and her first time in California, Fuutarou initially chalked up this change in behavior to her being lonely in a foreign country. He figured she was probably doing the same with her sisters. However he gradually realized this was not the case as not only was he the only one receiving an increased influx of texts from the oldest sister, she also seemed to call her sisters less frequently than in the past and sometimes would go a few days without texting them, claiming she was just extremely busy and didn't have the time. Yet every morning for the past three months without fail, Fuutarou would wake up and check his phone to find multiple texts from Ichika. These overnight texts specifically would more often than not be attempts to tease and fluster him.

However the biggest red flag was Nino. From day one of Fuutarou and Yotsuba's relationship becoming official, Nino made it openly known she was not giving up, as she continued to circle him like a buzzard to a dying animal, ready to strike if his relationship drew its last breath. However, she never went beyond her typical flirting, which was mostly for the purpose of showing Fuutarou she was still interested in him. She absolutely refused to do anything that would actively lead to their breakup as she couldn't fathom doing something so heartless to her dear sister. Instead, she waited from the sidelines confident that fate would eventually bring them together, only ready to truly pounce on her target in the event the two ever broke up. Consequently, this ended up becoming a motivational force for Yotsuba, who used this fact to fuel her passion for Fuutarou and strip herself of her tendency to look down on herself. This led to a more fulfilling relationship and did wonders to improve her self-confidence. For that reason, Yotsuba was actually grateful for Nino's actions. However for Fuutarou it started becoming nothing less that outright annoying, as years passed and she steadily remained as flirty as ever with no sense that she would ever move on from her former tutor. That is until 18 months ago, when her attention and affection started to shift when Fuutarou introduced her to his friend from college and they immediately hit it off. Kenji Hanamura was everything she always dreamed about, as he was a tall, attractive Japanese young man with bleached blonde hair whose appearance gave off the impression he belonged more in a biker gang than on the Tokyo University baseball team. Despite that, he was actually very sensitive and caring, while also being a little bit of a nerd as he poured endless research and practice into becoming the best pitcher he could be so he could one day play professionally.

To say they became an adorable couple would be an understatement as Nino finally had a boyfriend to shower with love and affection and also one who would reciprocate it. However, a little over four weeks before the Uesugi Wedding she broke up with him suddenly and without explanation. Nino became extremely aggressive as she quickly returned to flirting towards Fuutarou, this time crossing lines she previously never would have crossed. It got to the point that Yotsuba and Nino actually had a small fight over it before the second sister relented and toned down on her flirting just enough to satisfy Yotsuba.

This mountain of evidence, coupled with that final Quintuplet game and the fact they would soon be joining him and his wife on their honeymoon gave the man reason enough to fear that this war for his affection, even after tying the knot, was far from over.

What made things even worse was Yotsuba's attitude towards it. Fuutarou couldn't tell if her attitude towards the problem was due to denial, figuring her sisters were simply teasing him and that they would never cross the line, or some deep-seated desire to please her sisters even in the face of common sense. Whatever the reason was, outside of that one fight with Nino, she was an active enabler for her sisters' actions.

This hit home for him when she joked right before bed about Fuutarou being the envy of every man in Hawaii with his harem of redheads. He knew she was just teasing him, but he was legitimately worried about something happening on the trip. Sure he could tell the sisters apart but could the same be said for drunk Fuutarou? What if while drinking he mistook one of the sisters to be Yotsuba? Would they stop him before it was too late or would they take advantage of the opportunity? For this reason the young man was seriously considering staying sober the whole trip, even though that was one of the activities he was looking forward to the most.

It was thoughts like these that kept him up during the hours he was supposed to be resting in preparation for tomorrow's long trip. Worries and possible scenarios cascaded his consciousness as he tossed and turned in his bed before finally passing out from exhaustion. However, by that point he had only gotten one hour of sleep before their alarm went off.

AN: This is the start of what I hope will be a satisfying, fan-made conclusion for the original manga as I plan to give more concrete closure to the sisters who weren't able to capture Fuutarou's heart. The Final Quintuplet game was something that thematically made sense to me and could have been the proper closure needed for the sisters. And overall I was fine with how the game was handled.

However, whether it was a joke by Negi or was a hint that things were never fully settled, the ending revelation that all of the Quintuplets would join in on the Honeymoon felt … off. Like I understand the humor in the decision but for a manga that dealt with realistic relationships, this was super unrealistic and quite frankly alarming. That's why I'm writing this story. It may be a fool's errand, but I want to see everyone end up being happy and ready to face the future, so I'll use this honeymoon to do just that. Don't worry it won't be without humor, as the series wouldn't be the same without it. I'm looking forward to some future bits I already have planned out.

The story will carry a M rating but that is just to be on the cautious side, adult themes and adult humor will be present in this story but nothing even close to graphic. (Sorry, this isn't that kind of story)

As for how often it will update, well that will vary. I'm trying to be as faithful to the original as possible and thus writing these chapters requires tons of research and fact-checking. So please be patient with me and I hope you enjoy this story.
