感情用事

Lan Wangji wasn't used to making impulsive decisions, but he also wasn't used to feeling so much so strongly. But ever since Wei Ying had entered his life, he'd been less and less able to ignore his emotions.

Now, trapped in a cave with a mythical monster, his father likely dead or at the very least actively dying, his uncle injured, his brother missing, his leg throbbing with every heartbeat to remind him of the smell of burning paper and wood and meat that had once housed human souls…

"It's not like I was flirting with you, so why would you be upset? Unless… Unless, Lan Zhan, you like Mianmian!"

Now, after everything, Wei Ying believed him to have feelings for Luo Qingyang?

Had his flirting ever only been in jest, to torment him? Sitting here, beside him half naked, just a way to humiliate him?

Lan Wangji was out of words, frustrated and in pain physically and otherwise. Initially his intent was to bite Wei Ying's arm, a literary reference.

But then he looked at Wei Ying's face, the weird almost self-deprecating look on his unfairly beautiful face, his lips parted slightly.

And they seemed like a more worthwhile target.

He meant only to bite them, just the bottom one near his birth mark, but found once he was there, he couldn't resist the urge to suck on the freckle that had taunted him every time Wei Ying spoke, moving tantalizingly with every word.

When Wei Ying stiffened under him, his eyes wide with shock, Lan Wangji pulled back, horrified at himself. He looked at his hands and readied himself for the punch he deserved, but it didn't come, and he chanced a glance.

Wei Ying looked almost shy, blushing not unlike a maiden.

"Lan—Lan Zhan, you…? Me?!"

He sounded so disbelieving, so shocked, Lan Wangji immediately knew he had never been teasing, had never intended to torment him. Thinking such about him had been uncharitable and unkind.

He kowtowed as best he could with his leg on fire, only for Wei Ying to pull him out of his crouch, looking at his leg in concern.

"Don't! You'll make it worse!"

He almost wanted to cry at the worry in Wei Ying's voice, as though he deserved his concern after assaulting him so wantonly.

"I apologize," he said roughly, "for my loss of control."

Wei Ying stared, his mouth moving soundlessly for a moment, his lower lip swollen from Lan Wangji bite.

"Lan Zhan," he said finally. "Is… is it me? Not—not Mianmian?"

His voice was hesitant, surprised. And Lan Wangji owed him the truth, at least as penance.

"Since our first meeting," he confessed. "If you wish to never see me again, I understand."

Wei Ying's face was so expressive, where his wasn't, and he was helpless to look away from the myriad of emotions passing over it. When Wei Ying finally turned away slightly, his heart clenched. Lan Wangji wondered if perhaps he could redeem himself by dying to the Xuanwu so that he could escape. Perhaps that would earn forgiveness.

"Lan Zhan… Lan-er-gege…"

He waited, swallowing as Wei Ying tilted his head to look at him through his lashes.

"You stole my first kiss, er-gege. Won't you take responsibility?"

Lan Wangji stared, frozen, Wei Ying's smile going right to his groin.

"I didn't know why I wanted your attention so much," Wei Ying murmured. "I guess I was flirting with you. Boy, am I an idiot."

When Wei Ying closed the distance between them, Lan Wangji couldn't stop the relieved groan that tore from his lips before they were claimed.

Perhaps being impulsive wasn't so terrible after all.

This was spawned from a gif set for CQL on Tumblr and "gee, for the novel that would make a fun canon divergence."

Translation from the fan translation of the manhua on Mangago. Mostly based on MDZS, but Wei Wuxian has Xiao Zhan's mole, for reasons.

The title is an idiom, "act impetuously," "allow one's emotions to sway one's judgment," or "act according to one's feelings."
