October 1, 1989
It had been just an ordinary day for Robin as she was working at Blockbuster with her co-worker and friend Steve. He was working the register while she was going through videos that had been returned. She has been saving up money to go to college since a good school would be very expensive. Robin was watching Steve talk up a very pretty good girl wanting to rent a movie. She checked out the girl's ass with her blue eyes and smirked slightly. Steve actually picked a good one to try and ask out, she thought and he was a lucky guy. Robin knew she couldn't try dating a girl here since people would talk, all the most reason she needed this job; to save enough to leave Hawkins.
The girl left Steve dumbfounded and Robin chuckled softly to him.
"Shame, thought you had her. Looked really cute and had a nice ass." Robin remarked.
Steve ran his fingers in his brown hair and chuckled.
"Should have known you would be staring, thought you were more of a breast girl." He whispered.
Steve had kept her being a lesbian a secret and he's been nothing but a good friend to her. Still, that comment made Robin's eyes roll and playfully slapped him.
"I'm more of a lovely face kind of girl and she had one too. You'll score soon and get out of your dry spell."
Steve chuckled and nodded.
"Hope so since I could really use a date sometime soon." Steve commented.
Robin smiled at him as she looked at the clock. Closing time, she thought and there wasn't anyone left in the store.
"Whose turn is it to close?" Robin asked.
Steve shrugged and stated,
"I don't know but I did it the last two nights so it must be you."
Robin sighed since she wished to get out of here sooner, but she wasn't going to have Steve close again.
"You get out of here then, I got this." Robin told him.
All of a sudden, she felt a stabbing pain in her abdomen and let out a painful scream.
"Dear god!" she yelled.
Steve noticed Robin's extreme pain and brought her down to the floor to check over her. She screamed out in pain and it almost felt like something was inside her, her stomach growing in size. Robin's eyes widened with horror as she felt something break…and it felt like water. How in the fuck she thought as she screamed in pain?
"Steve this might sound strange but…I think I'm having a baby." Robin gasped.
This really took Steve by surprise since there was no way in hell Robin could have been pregnant. She didn't even like men, let alone having sex with one to have a baby. Though this was Hawkins and a lot of strange shit happened, so an unexpected pregnancy shouldn't have been that strange. Still, Steve knew this was serious and who knows what people would think if Robin tried to explain the baby was just out of the blue. She was squeezing Steve's hand and she bit her lip. The pain was immense and she couldn't believe she was in labor. Steve still couldn't believe that Robin was pregnant and giving birth; she looked normal minutes ago.
"How?" he asked.
"I honestly don't know! I'm freaking out here! I don't even…. dear god it hurts! Shit! Please let this be some sick and awful nightmare! I can't be a mother!" Robin screamed.
Steve held her hand and remembered a bit of what to do from his high school health class. He helped Robin to take off her pants and underwear and helped to spread out Robin's legs for the baby to come out. This wasn't the action Steve thought he would have tonight but he couldn't just leave Robin in pain.
"Just breathe Robin okay, just breathe. I'm not going anywhere." Steve told her.
Robin did what Steve told her and she started to breathe quicker as the contractions came faster. Robin screamed as she pushed and after an hour of being in labor, a baby's cries can be heard. Steve and Robin were shocked that there was baby in the store; more so for Robin; the baby was hers. Steve got a towel from the storage room to wrap the baby in. Robin locked eyes with the baby and looked to see the baby looked a lot like her. The same blue eyes in that soft round face, beautiful brown curls, and such a cute dainty nose. Robin felt a connection to this baby but she needed to make sure she was okay.
"Steve, you need to get me to the hospital to see if my baby's okay."
Steve made a quick call to the manager to have him lock up and brought Robin to the hospital. Once in the parking lot, Steve looked back to see Robin crying. Steve couldn't possibly understand what Robin was going through. She had a life somewhat figured out and now she had a baby out of nowhere. Steve didn't even think the baby was a natural occurrence and the baby legit had no father. Robin wouldn't be the kind of woman to ditch her own kid since he knew her better than that. Still, with all the stories Hawkins had got with all the monsters and Russian terrorists, this baby would only add to the town's strange occurrences.
"What am I going to do Steve? I can't say the baby just came out of me all of a sudden; they will think I'm crazy. Plus, people might come for her since this shit isn't normal. I know what people do to children like her and I don't want her to be taken away from me." Robin said, rocking the baby softly.
Steve thought for a moment and he suggested,
"Just say the kid is mine and you hid it for nine months."
Robin's eyes widened. Steve was actually going to claim a kid for a story for her and he didn't need to deal with this shit. He saw Robin's panic and he sighed.
"Look Hawkins has just gotten off radar with all the shit that's gone on with this town. Last thing we need is your life being turned upside down anymore than it has to be with your miracle. Just say we screwed around New Years Eve, both of us were drunk and we screwed around. You were pregnant all this time and we didn't know. I will do what I can for this baby Robin since I know you're scared shitless. "Steve told her.
Robin smiled and heard her baby starting to cry. Steve then noticed Robin's breasts looked bigger and wondered if the baby changed a bit of her body. If Robin gave birth, maybe her breasts had milk in them and maybe the baby was hungry.
"Try breast feeding her before we go in." Steve suggested.
Robin shot a glare at him since she thought Steve wanted to see her breasts.
"I'm not going to look okay, just saying your kid might be hungry. I don't always have a one-track mind you know."
Steve turned around so Robin would have her privacy. She took off her bra and opened her shirt to see herself lactating from her boobs. Shit she thought, this was happening and she gave a breast to the baby to have it feed. Right, she thought, she needed to know what she had once she finished feeding her baby. She smiled softly as the baby suckled her mother's nipple and stroked the soft angel face. It felt weird having the baby drink from her breasts, but Robin oddly loved the feeling. She had given birth to a little life and she just felt herself filling up with love for the baby.
"Thanks Steve…. for all of this." Robin told him as she breastfed.
Steve smiled. One of his good friends was now a mother and he felt like he needed to help her.
"I wasn't going to bail on you. Besides, you look nice being a mom and all."
Robin scoffed.
"Still don't know how the fuck this happened but…this little one loves me. I can't bear to be apart from her. She needs her mommy. This was never the plan Steve but…I can't imagine her being with anyone else now that she's mine."
Steve smiled and asked,
"You think it's a girl?"
Robin checked over the little one and nodded.
"Yes, a little girl."
Once the little one had its milk, Steve helped Robin into the hospital. Nurses looked over the baby while Robin spoke to the doctor. Another miracle; her daughter was healthy and no complications for her or Robin. Steve lied and said he was the father and the doctor didn't question more on the parentage of the baby. The doctor looked over Robin and asked,
"What will you name the little one?"
Robin looked over her daughter and watched how peaceful she looked.
"Nicole Marie Buckley." Robin softly spoke.
Doctors wondered why she didn't give the baby's Steve's last name, but Steve wasn't concerned. For all he knew, that baby was solely Robin's. He would just help out when he could so Robin would have some support.
Chaos ensued the next couple of days when word got around about Robin's baby. Her mother allowed her to stay in the house and offered to babysit when she could. People were donating formula, diapers, clothes, and toys to her so Robin can help take care of Nicole. It was a hard adjustment for Robin since she had a little one and she didn't know if she would be cut out for motherhood. Robin was breastfeeding when she heard a knock on the door. She groaned since she thought it was a newspaper or some Christian group coming to condone her premarital baby. Robin got up and saw an old man with a monocle on one of his eyes. He's sights went to the baby and asked,
"How much do you want for this child?"
Robin stepped away from him as she held her baby closer to her chest.
"Excuse me you old fart?!"
He ignored her and glanced around the house. It looked to be a wreck and he noticed some broken glass on the counter.
"What was on the counter Miss?" he asked.
Robin rolled her eyes.
"A coffee pot; it just exploded into pieces and I don't really know why." She expressed.
The monocle man grinned and asked,
"Was the little one crying when it 'just exploded?'"
Robin thought for a moment and she had. She was being fussy and wouldn't go to bed and it just exploded when she cried very loudly. Robin had a sinking feeling those two events were more related than she thought. This man had been in the papers collecting children born on October 1, 1989. He was here for her little Nicole and to hell she was parting with her. He looked to the little girl in Robin's arms and asked again,
"How much do you want for your child? Money is no object."
Robin spat at the man's face and gently rocked her baby. He wiped away the saliva and glared at Robin
"You're not taking her to experiment on you creep! Nicole is my daughter and you won't take her!"
The man with the monocle raised an eyebrow and chuckled.
"Young miss, this child has abilities you can't imagine. She's destructive in the wrong hands and I want her to be in the best hands possible. You clearly need the money to leave this sad town and I want that child; we both can benefit from this exchange."
Robin looked at Nicole and she couldn't help but smile if not feeling worried for her. If Nicole did break the coffee pot with some sort of power, would she be able to handle it? Eleven had powers and she had them under control, maybe her daughter could be the same with a loving hand. She looked to the man and she had a bad feeling he wouldn't treat her right. Robin may be young, but she wanted her daughter to be loved, not used or abused.
"The only thing that will benefit me is if you get the hell out of my mother's house. You're not taking my daughter so shove your cash up your old ass."
The man sighed; he hoped to collect the daughter as part of the Umbrella Academy, but alas this young woman was a lost cause.
"Fine, keep you little child. Don't say I didn't warn you about her power and hope she won't tango with my group when she's older." He warned.
Nicole looked at the man and cried, causing something in his pocket to explode. Robin chuckled as the man took out the pen in his pocket and it was leaking ink all over. He glared at the mother and her baby before leaving them in a huff.
"Good girl Nicole." Her mother praised.
Nicole babbled and cooed as she nuzzled her mother's breasts. Robin smiled and thought she and her daughter would have a nice if hard life.
April 5, 1993
Nicole was now three and a bit of a hell raiser for her mother. She was mostly good, but deny her anything and she would explode, no really, she would cause things to explode. Robin had to replace her TV set, coffee pots, vases, glasses and other precious things because of Nicole and she needed to listen to Robin. She knew not to spoil her child but also worried if perhaps her powers would be too great or cause too much attention.
Robin was able to get the night off from Blockbuster to spend time with her daughter. They had fun playing school, had a tea party, and had been to the park. Steve had planned to come visit Robin in the evening for some ice cream and to spend time with her. When dinner came, things got a bit rougher for Robin as Nicole was being fussy this evening.
"Mommy, want ice cream!" Nicole yelled.
Robin looked to her daughter's plate and she still had food on her plate. She sighed and shook her head.
"Clean you plate then ice cream." Robin calmly told her.
Nicole crossed her arms.
"No, I want ice cream now!" she yelled.
Robin took deep breaths, she learned not to yell at Nicole or else the child's temper will rise and explode something.
"Nicole sweetheart, you have a few pieces of chicken and carrots on your plate. If you eat this, you can get ice cream." Robin explained.
Nicole started to cry and threw her fork at Robin.
"Ice cream! Ice cream! Ice cream!" Nicole yelled.
Robin groaned and took her child out of the high chair, and into the quiet corner in the living room to have her sit.
"Keep this up and you will have no ice cream. Now sit here and calm down." Robin warned.
Nicole cried and shouted,
"Ice cream mommy!"
It was then the light bulb in the room exploded into pieces and Robin needed to calm her daughter.
"And you will get ice cream after dinner. I didn't say no. Please just eat your dinner." Robin begged.
"Ice cream!"
More light bulbs broke and then a vase. Robin felt her temper rising but then she had an idea. She took her daughter in her arms and showed her all the broken items in the room. Nicole's eyes widened and asked,
"Whys it broken?"
Robin sighed and stroked her baby's back. She had tried to go on in life as nothing was wrong with Nicole so she would be normal, so she would feel normal. However, she was old enough to know she had powers and that they could be very dangerous.
"When you get angry sweetheart, you make things explode. You sometimes scare mommy when you don't listen to me. I don't know what will break or if you and I will get hurt. Understand I never want to hurt you or have you hurt others."
Nicole frowned and started to cry in her mother's arms. She understood she did bad things and made her mother's upset with her.
"I'm so sworry mommy! I so very sworry!" Nicole cried.
Robin smiled slightly and kissed her baby's cheek. No matter what Nicole did, Robin knew she was a sweet little girl with her blue eyes and shiny brown hair. She was Robin's little miracle and an angel…when not a destructive hellraiser.
"I know you didn't mean to sweetie, but you need to listen to mommy. You know I love you and never want to lose you, yes. I also don't want you to hurt yourself or my things."
"I'm sworry mommy. I be good, I mean it." Nicole sobbed.
Robin smiled and kissed her daughter's cheeks, causing her to giggle.
"Now let's finish up dinner. Uncle Steve should be coming home with ice cream for you." Robin softly told her.
Nicole finished her meal with little fuss and both she and Robin sat in the living room to watch a movie. The doorbell rang and Robin smiled as she answered it to let Steve in.
"Who's screaming for some ice cream?" Steve joked.
Robin laughed nervously as she pointed to Nicole. Steve's face fell a bit and really wished he hadn't said anything. Robin shook her head and stated,
"Nicole knows now so maybe I can have her control her powers better. She really likes her ice cream." Robin told him.
Steve chuckled.
"Wish we still had a job at Scoops Ahoy, your daughter would love the free samples and the free ice cream."
Robin remembered the time at the ice cream parlor in the mall before it got destroyed. Now that it has been rebuilt, maybe she should try getting a second job there to help support Nicole. Steven smiled and gave Robin a check and she smiled softly.
"You don't need to keep doing this Steve. You do enough with babysitting some nights and getting me things to help her." Robin expressed.
"I know I don't have to, but I want to. Nicole should not have to live not knowing if she can't have things. Besides, I want her to be a happy little girl for you." Steve commented.
Robin smiled and took the ice cream from Steve. She showed it to Nicole and she jumped to her feet.
"Ice cream!" she shouted.
Steve flinched a bit in case something broke and Robin chuckled.
"Worry when she cries or is angry, Steve. Happy Nicole doesn't break anything. Now I hope you got cookies and cream for my baby." Robin asked.
"Yep, and chocolate marshmallow for you Robin."
Robin made the sundaes for her, Steve, and Nicole as they watched some random cartoon movie. After the ice cream, Nicole tuckered herself out and fell asleep. Robin took Nicole in her arms and walked Steve to the door. He looked at the little girl and smiled.
"Being a mommy has made you soft in a good way, happier too."
Robin nodded as she stroked her daughter's back.
"Not the way I thought I would have a child and I hoped to be living with a woman too but…I'm happy Nicole's in my life."
"You don't regret keeping her?" Steve asked.
"Not in the slightest. Money can't buy what this little girl does to me and I'm glad I told the old fart to stick his cash up his ass." Robin commented, kissing her little girl's head.
Steve smiled and left Robin's place. Robin brought up Nicole to her room and put her to bed. This still felt like a dream to Robin, having a little girl be her whole world. It was a strange but loving feeling that Robin will continue to have for her as she grew older.
August 11, 2001
Robin was doing laundry when she couldn't help but notice something peculiar. Her daughter's underwear seemed to have some light red staining on them and Robin knew it was time for a talk with her daughter. Nicole was 11 now, which meant Robin knew she was starting to be a woman. Robin understood why Nicole would try and hide this from her since it was an embarrassing time. Robin went to her daughter's room and gave a light knock.
"Nikki, can we have a talk please?"
The vase near her broke, which annoyed Robin. Nicole had better control of her powers thankfully but still knew how to use them. She often used them to avoid talking and try to get her way, but Robin was firm and took little of Nicole's crap.
"Nicole Marie Buckley, open this door!" Robin yelled.
She heard Nicole sighing and opened the door. Nicole's blue eyes were looking at the floor and her brown hair was long and down to her back. She was up to Robin's chest in height and almost looked to be a splitting image of her mother. Sometimes Robin would have to take double takes just to be sure she wasn't just raising another version of herself. Nicole bit her lip and explained,
"I don't want to be in trouble."
Robin smiled softly and asked,
"Do you think you're in trouble?"
Nicole nodded and pointed her waist.
"I don't know why but I'm starting to bleed down here. Please don't be mad at me for getting my underwear dirty mom, I'm trying to stop it I swear! I didn't even explode my insides to make me bleed so what's happening to me!" She asked.
Robin chuckled slightly, which made her daughter's face go all red. Nicole felt her embarrassment rise and a snow globe exploded.
"This isn't funny mom!"
"Oh, I know it isn't funny princess, you're just becoming a woman. Wish this day wouldn't come since these years are hard on anyone." Robin informed her.
Nicole slowly looked at her mother and asked,
"This is normal and not to do with my powers?"
Robin hugged her and stroked her daughter's back in comfort.
"No, it's what all girls go through. Your body's getting ready for when you want to have children. Make no mistake that you should wait to have a baby, not until you're ready."
Nicole squirmed a bit since she was just an awkward 11-year-old. She was kind of all, lanky, had long hair, and zits were starting to form on her face. Least she didn't need dental wear she thought. Robin took a step back and saw that her little girl's chest was also starting to grow. She couldn't go on to middle school with flopping breasts Robin thought.
"We're going to need to go shopping for bras too it looks like."
Nicole only got redder.
"Mom!" she exclaimed.
"It's nothing to be ashamed of Nikki. You're a growing girl that's becoming a woman. You will need to wear them so you keep them in your shirt. We don't want boys to ogle at you all the time, don't we?"
Nicole just nodded and sighed.
"Can we at least get ice cream after we get some bras and whatever we need for my bleeding? This will make this day suck less and maybe not have me die of embarrassment." Nicole asked.
The more things changed; some things remained the same Robin thought. After shopping for some cute training bras for her daughter and some pads, they got some ice cream to enjoy in the park. The mother and daughter sat on the park bench enjoying their cones and taking in the sun. Robin couldn't believe how much time had passed since having her miracle baby but she was concerned for her daughter's future. Nicole turned out to be mega smart so college wouldn't be the issue. She was more worried about her daughter growing up since she didn't know if there was a man or woman that would handle her. Nicole looked to her mother and saw she was lost in her thoughts.
"You okay mom?" she asked.
Robin snapped out of her thoughts and nodded.
"Yes, I am sweetie, just thinking about my life. Never thought I would be rocking mom jeans and have an awesome 11-year-old is all."
Nicole smiled and asked,
"You're pretty cool, for a mom I mean. Least I know not to take any guy's shit if I don't have too."
"Hey what did I say about cursing?" Robin asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Not to do it until I'm 16 and if I do curse, make sure its not in front of you or Uncle Steve." Nicole stated in a monotone voice.
Robin chuckled and nodded.
"Good since even though you're a Buckley woman, you should still have some class to your brass."
Nicole rolled her eyes playfully and giggled at her mother's advice. She rested her head on her mom's shoulder and asked,
"You're not mad at Uncle Steve getting married, are you?"
Robin shook her head. Steve had found a woman who was decently smart, pretty, and cared for him and his friendship with her. Robin thought it was because Nicole thought Steve was her dad and thought her heart would be crushed.
"I'm not in the slightest Nikki. Your uncle deserves a woman to treat him right and also put him in his place for being a smart ass."
"Why isn't that woman you mom?" Nikki asked.
Robin sighed and ate more of her ice cream. She pondered if she should tell her daughter but to be fair, she had already come out to her mother so why would this be any harder.
"Because honey your mother is not like other moms…I like other women and not men."
This blew Nicole's mind and her eyes widened. She knew a man and a woman needed to make a baby thanks to her Uncle Steve giving her a talk too early; but her mother didn't seem to like men at all for that. So, if that was the case, how was she born?
"Then how did I get here if you like women?" she asked.
"I will try explaining to you when you're a bit older Nikki. Even I don't know what the fuck happened with that."
"Hey you cursed!" Nicole laughed.
Robin smirked and had more of her ice cream.
"I'm a grown woman who works two to three jobs, takes care of you, and has to go out of this county for dates with women. I can curse as much as I like missy."
"Is that where you go when you say 'book clubs?" Nicole asked.
Robin chuckled since her daughter was finding out a lot about her mother versus Nicole learning more about being a woman. Still, it was nice to be more honest with her daughter since she had to keep that part of herself away from her daughter. Good to know she was handling it well.
"Yes, and my overnight retreats…."
Nicole's eyes widened and she shook her head.
"Noooooo do not go that far mom! I'm still innocent!" Nicole exclaimed.
Robin chuckled and wrapped an arm around her daughter as she finished her ice cream. She looked at her daughter and smiled.
"I love you, Nikki."
"I love you too mom."
May 19, 2008
Nicole had brought home her prom date so she could finally be rid of her innocence before college. Her mother should be working late so they wouldn't be disturbed. Her date was part of the football team and he was very eager to strip Nicole down to have sex with her. She had been thinking of this moment for a while, but this was starting to feel all wrong. He was making out with her with such aggression and she felt her body becoming sick with his touches. Nicole was beginning to have second thoughts when the sandy blonde brown eye guy was just shedding their clothes like nothing. She'd hope he would have wanted it a little slow but she was beginning to panic when he got her to her underwear. Her blue eyes looked scared as he played with her waistband,
"Y-You know I think I change my mind." Nicole stammered.
The guy glared at her and pinned her to her bed.
"Little late for that Nicole, you brought me here and I want to take what is yours." He purred.
Nicole struggled to break free and yelled,
"I'm telling you to stop Hudson!"
"And I'm telling you, you will like it once we get started. Don't be such a prude and back out."
Nicole debated using her powers to blow stuff up to scare him since she had done so well for the most part to not abuse them. One of the few things she did was when she blew up test tubes since she forgot there was a chemistry exam. Can't have a practical with broken glass but still her powers weren't used unless she really needed to use them. This felt like one of those times.
"I'm begging you to please get off me! I don't want this anymore! Get off!" Nicole yelled.
Hudson grinned and kissed her neck, causing Nicole to moan.
"Sounds like you want me."
"Really because it sounds like my daughter wants you off her asshole!"
Hudson looked to see Nicole's mother with a baseball bat and his face went white. Nicole noticed her mother and breathed a sigh of relief. Robin glared at the pair, but more so the guy on top of her daughter. She slapped the bat on her palm to hopefully give him a message.
"I thought you would be working late tonight?" Nicole asked as she continued to struggle.
Robin scoffed and glared at the guy on her little girl.
"That was the plan until I remembered what guys like this one here do to daughters on prom. Stupider still, you brought him home Nicole. Thought you would have been smart not to bring him here for sex." Robin lectured.
Hudson laughed nervously as he got off Nicole. Robin wasn't amused and looked to her daughter, nodding and raising three fingers. Nicole's eyes widened since that was a cue for her to use her powers and Robin nodded once more.
"Look either you leave and never speak to my little girl again, or we can settle this here if you still feel horny." Robin spat.
Hudson kind of still wanted Nicole as he was reaching for his pants on the desk. Nicole focused her attention on the ugly glass globe on her desk and exploded it with her mind. The explosion freaked out Hudson and he frantically got his clothes and ran out of the room. Robin chuckled a bit and yelled,
"Don't you come back!"
Once the guy was out of their home, Robin looked to her daughter. She checked over Nicole's body to see she wasn't harmed. Least Robin wouldn't have to find and beat his ass later she thought. Nicole hugged her mother and was crying in her arms. She felt so ashamed of what she almost went through and Robin just stroked her back.
"You know we need to talk about this Nikki." Robin expressed firmly.
Nicole nodded and asked,
"Can I get on some clothes though. Kind of don't want this talk in my underwear."
Robin nodded and gave her daughter privacy to change into pajamas. They went into the kitchen when Nicole was done and Robin got her daughter some ice cream. This made Nikki chuckle but also smile softly at her mother when whipped cream and chocolate syrup was added.
"Ice cream? Do I look three mom?" she joked.
"If you were, you would be blowing more of my shit up to get some. But you aren't and that's why we need to talk. You're so lucky I decided to come home early and not take a late shift. Sex is a very scary thing, especially when they can lead to babies Nikki. You know this, you're the valedictorian for god sakes."
Nikki bit her lip as she stabbed a bit of her ice cream with a spoon. She was very smart, kind of pretty, but also a freak if her powers meant anything. Nikki understood why she had to hide that from most people, but still she wanted to be normal. She thought it was normal for girls to lose their virginity at prom and she didn't want to be a loser like everyone called her behind her back. She felt herself tearing up and Robin wiped away the tears.
"You have a choice in when you want to have children…I wasn't so lucky but I guess I was also lucky too."
Nicole raised an eyebrow and asked,
"I thought Uncle Steve just knocked you up at 22 after New Years Eve. That's what you told me and you realized you were a lesbian after that."
Robin shook her head and I sighed. She had to tell her daughter the truth. Nicole was old enough and she would be going off to college soon. If Robin had the time to tell her daughter about her birth, it had to be now.
"One of the only times I lied to you Nikki. I knew way before I was 22 that I was a lesbian and I did first come out to Steve about that. He was there for your birth yes but…the birth I can't really explain. It just happened at the Blockbuster. I just got pregnant then and you were born moments later."
Nicole didn't understand and she tilted her head.
"Mom you know how strange that sounds? How could you one moment not be pregnant and the next moment have me?" Nicole asked.
Robin scoffed as she took a bite of her ice cream.
"I can also ask why you can explode things with your mind and why Hawkins had so many strange shit happen from demons to Russian plots in my late teen years.
Strange things just happen, but out of all of the strangest things I've seen or experienced, you're the most precious. After all, I thought I would never have a child and you were my miracle baby, my weird, amazing, scared shit out of my mind miracle baby."
Nicole smiled softly and had some of her strawberry ice cream.
"You never thought to give me up, once I had powers?"
Robin chuckled.
"An old fart of a man with a monocle stopped by days after you were born. He was willing to pay a lot of money for you, but my gut told me not to give you to him."
Nicole raised an eyebrow and asked,
"What did your guy tell you? You could have been rich and be out of this town. Not to mention, you would have had me to worry about."
Robin frowned a bit as she finished her ice cream, sighing.
"Men like him I just know would have experimented on you and treated you like a weapon. The money he gave me would have had your blood on it eventually and I didn't want that shit on my mind."
Nicole didn't realize why she had mattered so much to her mother until hearing this. She asked,
"What if you knew I would be happy?"
Robin got up and shook her head.
"When you were born…I knew you would be special. Not the powers, but just being you. I never imagined getting a chance to be a mother and well…I wanted to keep you despite my fears, worries, and lack of security. When you looked at my eyes for the first time, I knew I had to be your mother."
Nicole laughed softly since it was sometimes odd to see her mother so soft. She knew that she had that effect on her mother since Nicole would always be Robin's girl.
"Even if I lose my temper and blow shit up?"
"Good thing you did blow up that ugly globe Steve got you to scare him off. I didn't want to go to jail for beating that punk's ass. Why did you even go with him anyway?" Robin asked.
Nicole shrugged but then sighed as she stuffed her face with more ice cream.
"He was good looking and asked me out. I thought maybe he would be nice if he asked me. Guess he was a dog though." Nicole explained.
"Not even a good looking one football player aside. I know you feel you need to have sex before going off to college, but sex is something that should mean something to you too. Your first time with a man should be special and not to just the first guy that asks you to a dance."
Nicole had dated guys before but she was never able to get close to them because she had to hide herself. She thought maybe for sex wouldn't be so complicated but it ended up being that way, to her discouragement.
"I know that now mom. I was scared that he wasn't taking it slow. He just wanted my body and didn't care about me. I just hated the way he was touching me and kissing me. It was all wrong." Nicole confided.
Robin saw her daughter's discouragement and gave her a hug. Nicole hugged back and Robin kissed her forehead.
"I am proud of you for understanding what you were doing was wrong and that you decided you didn't want sex. You have respect for yourself which is what I always tried to teach you. You're only going to have one 'first time' and it should be special." Robin advised.
Nicole smiled and only hugged her mother tighter. She would soon be going away for college and leaving her mother for a while. Nicole knew that no matter where she went, her mother was always going to love her.
"I'm going to miss you so much mom when I leave. It still doesn't feel real."
Robin laughed softly and stroked her daughter's hair.
"It doesn't feel real to me either. My daughter is going away to college to study forensic science on a full scholarship. Not bad for a single mother at 40 huh. Holy shit I'm 40 with an 18-year-old. How the fuck did this happen?"
Nicole laughed and hugged tighter.
"Relax mom, you're still a knockout daughter aside. How is it going with Jessica by the way? Sounds like it's very serious."
Robin smiled and answered,
"Thinking I'll ask her to live with me soon. We can't marry now but her living with me is as good as anything right? Besides, she loves the fact I've been a mother to you and kind of likes the idea of being part of our family." Robin mentioned.
Nicole nodded in agreement. Her mother has been Jessica for five years now and she really made her mother happy. She was a nice blonde with brown eyes and matched her mother's sweet yet vulgar personality well. Jessica even had gotten Nicole a new camera for Christmas one year, which sparked a small love for taking pictures. Nicole didn't mind her mom was a lesbian and she was just happy she found someone that cares for them both.
"Glad I know I won't be leaving you alone mom. I will come back for holidays and summers of course. No matter what happens mom, I always want you in my life." Nicole said softly.
"Likewise pumpkin. Now Steve owes me a hundred bucks for that tacky globe."
Nicole pulled away and her eyes widened.
"Mom don't tell me you bet Uncle Steve that I would blow up that globe, did you?" Nicole asked in a somewhat horrified tone.
Robin chuckled and nodded.
"Sorry Nikki, but we both hated that god awful thing. Least we kept it for awhile huh and its sacrifice wasn't in vain."
Nicole laughed but asked,
"Least give me part of the money since I did most of the work."
Robin raised an eyebrow and asked,
"Work you had to do because you almost had sex with a guy you really didn't know under my roof? To which, if you didn't, you would have just through with it against your better judgement?"
"Right, never mind mom."
Robin's sternness softened and told her daughter,
"I love you Nicole and someday, you'll find someone who will love all of you."
"I hope so mom, I don't ever want you to worry about me."
Thanksgiving 2012
"You sure your mom is going to be okay with me coming? I don't want to intrude."
Nicole smiled and kissed her boyfriend's lips tenderly as they got up to her mother's doorstep. She looked over her tall, dark, and handsome man and ran her fingers in his short-spiked hair. Nicole pulled away to stroke his scar and look softly in his brown eyes.
"Diego, everything is fine. She's kind of wondering why I haven't brought you home sooner. We have been dating for three years now and she can't help but be curious about you. My Aunt Jessica also thinks you're sticking around and that I needed to bring you this time." Nicole mentioned.
Diego grinned as he pecked her lips more. Nicole had met Diego Hargreaves while she was in her third year of college. It had been casual meet ups at clubs and dinners before things got a lot serious. They decided to become official when Diego noticed a thug was following her. He tossed a knife at the guy to stop him from attempting to rob her and this really got Nicole's attention. It was then she learned Diego was like her and had powers, and hers didn't scare him off. They really hit it off after that and hoped to work together someday; Diego hopefully as a cop and Nicole as a crime scene investigator.
"Right and she knows basic stuff, right? You know what I want for a job and all that?" Diego asked.
"Yes, and you'll have to tell her yourself about your powers and your past as a superhero. She kind of hates your old man for trying to take me as a baby."
Diego sighed. He knew his father collected him and his siblings to be superheroes and that really stuck a raw nerve with Nicole's mother. He wasn't his father though and he really cared for Nicole a lot.
"I know, my old man was and still is an asshole. Always treated me like second best and pitted me and my brother Luther against each other. Never felt I was good enough for him."
"Well, you're good enough for me. No, you're the best for me." Nicole whispered in his ear with a soft giggle.
Diego chuckled and playfully shook his head.
"Careful kitten, remember where we are going and who we are meeting."
As if on cue, Robin opened the door and Nicole hugged her mother.
"Happy Thanksgiving mom!"
Robin looked to Diego and managed to crack the softest of smiles. He looked to be a tough guy but she was going to give him a chance. She looked to her daughter who looked almost the same as she did at 22 which didn't surprise Robin at all. Most of all, she looked happy and he had to be a big part of that.
"Happy Thanksgiving to you too Nikki. I assume this is the mysterious boyfriend me and Aunt Jessica have heard so much about?" Robin asked.
Nicole nodded and introduced her mother to Diego.
"Diego Hargreaves, it's finally nice to meet you."
The last name sounded familiar to Robin, but let it slide as she welcomed her daughter and Diego in. Nicole went over to her 'Aunt' Jessica and she laughed at the embraced.
"We missed you, Nikki." Jessica warmly told her.
"I know you both have; it's been a balancing act but I think things are in good form now. Plus, Diego helps me to keep me calm and is very loving."
Jessica looked to Diego and checked him out. Nicole had great tastes Jessica thought and introduced herself to Diego.
"Nice to meet you, Diego. I hope you're hungry since I've been cooking all day for the two of you." Jessica smiled.
Robin smiled softly at Jessica as Nicole pulled away to go to Diego's side. Jessica kissed Robin's lips softy and this made Diego smile a bit. He was aware Nicole's mother had a 'wife' of sorts but it was nice to see Nicole had people in her life to love her. The four of them went into the dining room and there was a lot of food. Nicole chuckled as she looked at the spread and asked,
"This is too much food Jess!"
"I rather have enough than not enough." Jessica smiled.
Diego smiled as the family did grace before making a plate for himself. Robin's eyes never wavered off her daughter's boyfriend and Diego can tell he needed to impress her.
"So, Diego, my daughter mentions you want to be a cop, right?" Robin asked.
Diego nodded as he cut up his food.
"Yes, I want to help people since I've done it at a young age." Diego mentioned.
"How so?" Robin questioned.
Nicole gulped since she didn't like where this talk was already going. They were aware of the Umbrella Academy since they did get big around Nicole's teens years but Robin always found the team abused sorts.
"Well…Look I'm not going to lie to you Ms. Buckley, I was part of a team growing up and we took down criminals okay."
Robin chuckled as she sipped her drink. She was aware of that team, led by the name who nearly took her daughter away.
"The old fart took you from your mother I see. How did he treat you?"
"Mom please don't pick a fight now." Nicole begged.
"No, it's fine Nicole, I'll be honest. He was an asshole and pardon my word choice but he was. He gave us numbers for names until he made a mother for us…yes, a robot mother but she still was a mother. I might have liked that he had favorites and that he always looked down on me, but I do love helping people." Diego expressed.
Robin did look a bit horrified but softened when she saw Nicole stroking his arm. He had powers like her little girl and they both looked sweet together. A worry of Robin's was that her daughter would be alone, but this wasn't the case. Sure, he was adopted by the man who wanted her daughter, but he seemed very loving to Nicole. He was protective yet had an edge to him, something Robin would be able to respect.
Jessica looked intrigued and asked,
"Which one were you?"
"The one that threw knives, Number 2 as people knew me from Umbrella. However, I want to move on from that and be my own person. At first it was trying to go solo with the hero thing but your daughter thought it would be better if I become an officer." Diego mentioned.
A job with a good pension and it would be stable, combined with her daughter wanting to work in forensics Robin thought. Things were quiet and it was Nicole who had to break it.
"Is this a new stuffing recipe Jessica. It's so delicious." Nicole asked.
"No, just the usual bit but maybe its because you've been away so much sweetheart." Jessica told her.
Robin looked to Diego and asked,
"You have brothers and sisters?"
"Um yes. I have two sisters, Allison and Vanya, and as of now two brothers; Klaus and Luther, I had a brother who passed away named Ben and I don't know where my other brother Five is since he ran away from home when he was 13."
Robin felt sorry for his loses but she was even more relieved she kept her daughter despite the struggles. Nicole sighed and took Diego's hand in hers. Diego smiled and kissed it softly.
"I know I'm probably not who you thought would be with you daughter but I do love her a lot Ms. Buckley."
"You can call me Robin and as for you…you don't seem so bad old fart taking you aside. You do know what her powers are yes?"
Diego nodded and held on to Nicole's hand lovingly.
"I do, combustion or can make things explode. She told me once I stopped a thug with my knives and showed them to me. I couldn't believe it at first that she had powers, but she also had such control of them too. You did a great job raising her Robin and she's the best woman I've been with." Diego said.
Robin smiled and looked to Jessica who also smiled.
"I'll be back, need to use the bathroom." Nicole said softly.
She kissed Diego's cheek before heading up the stairs. Diego looked to Robin and her arms crossed.
"What is your plan with my daughter Diego?"
Diego got anxious and he took a deep breath.
"Actually…I wanted to maybe ask if you would let me take her hand…in marriage. Nicole is too special to be alone and I want a life with her. Powers aside, she's funny, smart, beautiful, and makes me a better person. Don't worry about her being used to fight crime or do anything dangerous that's tied to my past. I'm done with the academy and I just want a normal life with your daughter.
Jessica looked moved but Robin chuckled.
"Bit corny and old fashioned don't you think Diego?"
Diego frowned and sighed. Robin raised an eyebrow and managed to smile.
"I didn't say that was a bad thing. In fact, I'm glad you asked me before just getting a ring and asking without telling me. Nicole and I have been through a lot and Hawkins was not an easy place for someone like her. You seem like you're going to stick with her, are you going to stick with her Diego?" Robin asked.
Diego nodded.
"I want to marry her Robin. Do I have your blessing to ask to marry her?"
Robin looked over Diego once more. He looked rough, but he was a warm and caring guy. Diego reminded her a bit of Steve in his charms and she could see how Nicole fell for him. Robin could hear Nicole coming back and Robin told Diego,
"Nicole's precious to me and I'm glad she found someone to make her so happy."
Nicole smiled when she heard that and sat down with Diego. He took that as a blessing and Robin confirmed with a slight nod. Robin looked at the woman she saw before her and saw that she was going to have another chapter with this man. They had their futures to look forward to and Robin couldn't help but feel so happy for her little girl. She might have first panicked about having a daughter, but knowing how far they both came truly made Robin at peace with her life.
November 8, 2014
Robin was helping her daughter with the finishing touches to her wedding dress. Vanya and Allison left to give the mother and daughter some privacy. Nicole couldn't believe she was getting married and neither did Robin. She looked over Nicole in a lace sleeved wedding dress with layers and a lace bodice. Robin thought back to when she was 22 and giving birth on the floor of a Blockbuster video store and could only smile. That little bundle of joy, the strange, magical, and terrifying miracle baby had blossomed into a lovely young woman that bore such a resemblance to herself. Nicole looked to her mother and smiled.
"I can't believe I'm getting married."
"I can believe it Nicole; you're such an amazing person and I am not saying that because you're my kid." Robin remarked.
"A kid you didn't think you would have." Nicole teased.
True she thought, but she was still happy nonetheless. Robin hugged her daughter and Nicole hugged back.
"You're always going to have me Nikki and I'm always going to be your mom."
"I know you will mom and who knows, you might be grandma in a couple of years." Nicole teased.
Robin chuckled and joked,
"Considering how you two can't keep your hands off each other, I wouldn't be surprised if you got pregnant on your honeymoon. I'm already preparing to be a grandma."
Nicole got red and exclaimed,
"Mom! We want some time to ourselves and have our jobs a bit before we have kids!"
Robin squeezed her daughter tighter and felt herself starting to cry. Nicole felt her mother's tears as she pulled back. She almost felt like crying too but she helped to wipe away her mom's tears.
"Thank you…for all you've done for me. I know I haven't been the easiest kid to raise, heck I wasn't even planned but I know you loved me so much anyway."
Robin smiled and looked over her daughter proudly. The way Nicole came into this world was strange, but her love for her wasn't as it was the same as any mother who loved their child. It wasn't easy but, in the end, she gained such a wonderful person that made her life worth living.
"I knew when I had you, my life was going to change. There were explosions, fights, tears, but also a lot of fun, laughs, and good times."
"And ice cream, loads of ice cream." Nicole joked.
"Yes, I know; seeing how your wedding cake is an ice cream cake shouldn't have surprised me." Robin chuckled.
They heard the bells starting to chime and Nicole felt pleasant butterflies in her stomach. Robin took her hand and helped her daughter to walk her down the aisle.
"Make sure you don't make things explode on your wedding Nikki."
Nicole smiled since it was her mother's way of calming her down. They walked down the aisle and saw Diego in a handsome tux. Robin's little baby girl was a woman and about to start a family of her own. She gave Nicole to Diego and went to sit down next to Steve and her partner Jessica. Steve looked to Nicole and couldn't help but look at Robin with a huge smile.
"You did a wonderful job Robin." Steve complimented.
"I did my best as any mother could; it just so happens she's going to have a happy family of her own." Robin smiled.
Jessica kissed Robin's hand and they watched as Diego and Nicole get married and kissed one another with sheer passion. Robin never expected her life to be normal and her daughter was the main highlight of that fact. Even as their lives continued on their different paths, Robin was always going to love her daughter just as any mother would. Nothing can ever be strange about a mother's love for her daughter.
