There's Something on Your Back

Georgia and David Tennant are in a bustling marketplace on an alien world, mixing with the locals. Georgia wanders away from David to explore as he chats away with a merchant. A mysterious fortune teller asks if she wants her future told, but Georgia declines. The fortune teller then says the reading is free for those with blonde hair. Georgia smiles and relents. As the fortune teller asks about Georgia's past, she sees there is a man in her life that changed everything. Georgia tells the fortune teller about the Doctor, and Doctor Who, and how the Doctor came to visit and they stopped a monster. She says she finds it lucky that she didn't go look for David herself when he went missing, as she would've never have met the Doctor. Georgia experiences a flashback, but the fortune teller dismisses it. The teller asks Georgia what event led to her meeting with the Doctor and Georgia says her husband had gone missing, and she was going to look for him, but decided not to, and the Doctor then came to her house.

At that time, Georgia was in her house, wondering whether she should go look for David herself, or just wait for him. After experiencing another flashback, Georgia is now panicking, but the fortune teller asks her what would have happened if she decided to look for David as something crawls onto Georgia's back. Scared, Georgia falls under the fortune teller's influence and, in the past, she decides to go look for David herself, and because of that one fateful decision everything changes...

Back at her house, Georgia and her family worry about what has happened to David, when they suddenly hear something coming from the sky. The family goes out to look, and in the distance they see a meteor object coming from the sky. It falls out, and the earth shakes and they all hear a loud bang. A Woman then fearfully tells Georgia there is something on her back. On the news, it is said that a UFO was found in the sea. In it, bodies have been found, supposedly alien, and multiple human bodies have also been found. One of them has been supposedly identified as the body of former Doctor Who star David Tennant. Georgia starts to deny the fact, until 3 days later when it is confirmed that the body was the body of David. The Tennant family cry, and they watch as David's coffin is lowered into a grave at his funeral. At the service, a man points at Georgia's back, saying there is something on it.

After the funeral service, Georgia encounters a mysterious man, who tells Georgia that that ship was the ship of an alien race called the Epnoshi, and the real Doctor was looking for Georgia, but found she was not at her home, and while waiting for Georgia outside, was then teleported onto the Epnosh ship, and found David Tennant, but accidentally crashed the ship when trying to escape with David, who had also been kidnapped. Georgia asks how the man knows all this, but when she turns around he has gone. She dismisses it as plain trickery.

Georgia then tells the BBC that she is giving up acting, as she cannot do it without David. On her way out, she passes Mark Gatiss, who looks at her cryptically. She returns home, and Peter says that they have been invited for a 1-Week holiday in Africa. Georgia doesn't seem excited, and agrees, but only as there is no television in Africa. As the Tennant family arrive in Africa, Georgia just sits in the same back chair almost the entire time, thinking about David. When the week is up, the family go back to the airport, but find that England has been closed off, as it has been nuked to stop a major attack, supposedly by aliens with big mouths. The family then find out that every country with a TV was nuked to stop the Sandmen, and this means that Georgia and the family will have to stay in Africa. The Man that told them about the catastrophe then points a gun at Georgia's back, and is told off by Peter for doing so.

After a row with a local, Georgia takes a walk in a desert, some animals attack her, but they are shot dead by a helmeted being. Georgia tells the being that she didn't have to do that, and the being takes it's helmet off to reveal the man that she met at David's funeral. He tells Georgia that he sent the invitation to Africa, and Georgia asks why. The Man says that he needed to get her away from England so that she wouldn't have been Nuked. Georgia asks the Man his name, but he doesn't answer. He just says that he saved Robert Holmes from a car crash when he was young, as the Doctor wasn't there. He tells Georgia that all of this, the Epnosh ship crashing, David dying, the Sandmen invading, wasn't meant to happen, and only happened because of Georgia. Georgia gets angry at the man for telling her that she caused the death of her husband, and the man asks her to come with him, but she refuses, and just runs away. He says to Georgia that when the sky goes dark she will come with him. And she will die. Then he disappears.

Six Months later, at night, Georgia and Peter talk about recent events while looking at the stars. Peter notices that the constellation of Orion has gone, though there are no clouds. Suddenly other stars start to disappear from the sky rapidly as if they were never there. Georgia sees the Mysterious Man and tells him that she is ready. The Man takes Georgia to military base and shows her the TARDIS, taken from Georgia's House just before she came back and the Epnosh ship crashed. It is dying after the Doctor's death. Georgia goes in, and is amazed that it is actually the TARDIS. The Man asks Georgia if she wants to see the creature on her back. They step into a circle of mirrors and lights, with pieces of technology which seem to be scavenged from the TARDIS. The Man switches on a light which reveals what is on Georgia's back: a "Time Beetle". Georgia is horrified and begs the Man to get it off her. However, the Man explains that it "feeds off time by changing time" and that she thinks the beetle is in a state of flux. She also says the beetle cannot be removed; when Georgia becomes angry that the Man said she was special but it wasn't her, but the beetle, the Man says that actually they're getting separate readings from Georgia that make it seem like reality is bending around her. Georgia asks, "What can I do to get rid of it?" to which the Man replies, "You're gonna travel in time."

They prepare Georgia, and take her back to the circle of mirrors and technology, with cables running into the TARDIS. At first, Georgia thinks she is going to see the creature again and protests, but the Man informs her the mirrors are "incidental", and that they "bounce Chronon energy at the centre, which we control and decide the destination." The Man says that she will need to arrive and stop her past self from getting off little Sutton Street and make her go back to her house so she can meet the Doctor, and it will bring back David, the Doctor and everyone else. Georgia realises that this is the time machine they will be using. When Georgia asks, "How d'you know it's gonna work?" The Man replies "Hmm? Oh, yeah we don't... We're just guessing".

Georgia says "I'm ready, 'cuz I understand now, you said I was gonna die but, you mean, this whole world is gonna blink out of existence, but that's not dying, 'cuz a better world takes its place. And I'm still alive." The Man remains silent. "That's right, isn't it?" Georgia tries to get confirmation of her belief, but The Man only replies sadly, "I'm sorry." Before Georgia can learn what will happen, the Lodestone is activated, and she is sent back in time.

Georgia lands about twenty minutes before meeting the Doctor, elated that the time travel worked, but quickly realises that she is on a half a mile away from her past self, and has only got four minutes to prevent her past self from getting off her street. She tries to run to herself but knows that she will not make it in time. Georgia now understands what the Man meant about her death, and she sees a haulage truck coming along that has just passed by her past self at the T-junction. Georgia steps in front of the truck, and the driver slams on the brakes. A woman nearby screams at the sight of what happens next...

At the intersection, Georgia's past self decides that instead of sitting in backed up traffic, she will go back to her house. As the original timeline reasserts itself, Georgia regains consciousness in the fortune teller's stall on Shan Shen, as the Time Beetle on her back releases itself and dies. The baffled and terrified fortune teller flees, screaming, "You were so strong. What are you!? What will you be?!" David, who has been blissfully unaware of all that's happened, enters and Georgia hugs him. When he asks why, she simply replies, "I don't know!" and proceeds to hug him again.
