George Washington stepped out of his command tent, and stopped in front of the large silver object blocking his way. "What in the world?" he muttered, circling the thing. He poked it. It did nothing. Washington came back to the 'front' of the cylinder, and knocked on it. The front part depressed inwards, and moved to the side. Washington jumped back, holding our his gun. A girl of about 15 stepped out of the cylinder, dressed in clothes made of a strange material.
"Hi!" she grinned, and waved brightly. She had a British accent, which put George on edge. Maybe this thing was a new weapon? But why was a woman inside it? "I'm Killgaragh! You're General George Washington, right? Such an honour!" She babbled, then noticed the gun, and immediately put her hands up. "Woah! Why are you pointing that thing at me? What did I do?"
"Well, miss, I'm thinking that you're a British spy, sent into my camp with this thing-" he pointed at the object. "-to kill us." The girl looked horrified.
"Oh, gods, no! I'm not a spy! Seriously, I'm just here to give you something. Hold on." She held up a finger as she spoke, then turned to the side and leaned over. "Where are you, you little bugger?" she muttered, then shouted triumphantly. She straightened up, holding a large book. The title read 'The Complete Book Of Dinosaurs'. "Here!" she said, handing it to George. "Read this! You see, you due before dinosaurs get discovered, and I found that really sad, do here I am. Oh, yeah, and tell Alexander Hamilton to say no to Reynolds. Or have you not met yet? Time travel is so confusing," she muttered the last part.
'Dinosaurs? Time travel? What?' thought George.
"Anyway, got to go! Bye! Oh, yeah, by the way, you're awesome! See you!" she said, then turned on her heel and sauntered back into the thing, the door resealing behind her. There was a noise like someone breathing through a metal grill, and the thing faded in and out of sight a few times, stirring up a few leaves from the ground.
George Washington stood, shocked, outside his command tent, holding a book and his gun. He waved his hand through the space the machine had been, but it was gone. Shaking his head, he turned and re-entered his tent, and say down at his desk. He cracked open the book and began to read.
