Protectors: Legend of the Virtue Fighter
A limited series
Chapter 1: All in a Fei's work
By Adventuremaker21
Authors note: I got inspired by the canonical special and realized Fei is WAY too good of a character to pass up. So, instead of throwing her in the main story all willy-nilly, I decided to take my own spin to the special AND make it fit in my timeline. Also, don't expect any of the other Protectors to show up here. They're all off busy with gem stuff, so Fei's on her own. Hope you enjoy the legend of the Virtue Fighter.
Across the world, away from miracles of Paris, gems of New Jersey, and magic of California, stood a central trade port city in China.
Shanghai.
The TRUE largest city in the world, over 24 million people alone live there. And among this fast amount of people, we see a room filled with posters of domestic and imported superhero posters, both cinematic and ones straight from the comics. It looked a bit barren besides that, due to all the packed boxes filled with books, action figures, and clothes. Inside the covers of the bed was a huge blanket monster, until the alarm went off. Slowly, an arm reached out and slammed it with all her might, breaking it in the process. The blanket pile moved slightly as a head poked out of it and sees the broken clock.
"I'll get a new one when we move," this voice said as the blankets rose to reveal a 15-year-old girl in superhero-themed nightclothes. She stood up, yawned, and made sure to get herself prepared for the day. Dressing in jeans, her red jacket, white tennis shoes, and adjusting her jet blue hair into a ponytail, this girl was ready for the day. Her name is Fei Cheng, and in 3 days' time, she and her father, legendary chef Wang Cheng, would be moving into Paris, France, where they would move next to their family and be with them: Sabine Cheng, Tom Dupan, and Marinette Dupan-Cheng.
Rushing down the stairs, Fei sees her father cooking up a healthy, yet sizable meal for her daughter. "Morning, Fei," He told her.
"Mornin' Dad," Fei told her back as she grabbed a couple of od bites to eat before she headed out to school.
"Fei, you really should eat more during breakfast," Wang said as he was packing up the almost barren kitchen to head to go to work for the day. It was his last day working and he wanted to cook up something special for the last day on the job, for both his fellow employees and the customers he worked for.
"Don't worry, dad," Fei said as she finished up a bite. "Trust me, We'll have dinner every night with Cousin Marinette and the others."
Assuring that the family would be more complete, Wang smiled and thought about seeing Marinette again after he visited her in Paris. Sure, he was amazed and sure, Chloe Bourgouris was mean to her, but a few months ago, Chloe called Wang and apologized for his actions and he accepted it, saying that he too had a rebellious streak when he was her age so he understood what she was going through.
He even carried a sword when he was a teenager.
Putting it all behind them, Wang was hired a few months beforehand to help out the Grand Paris hotel, and Chloe, now a reformed superhero, Queen Bee of the Protectors, wanted to make sure that there's no bad blood between them. Fei overheard this conversation and was very impressed with her, knowing her antics from her cousin Marinette. Ever since then, she had nothing but respect for her.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE REALLY LEAVING US, FEI!" Squealed out one of her classmates between classes.
"I know it's rough, but don't worry, I'll still call when I can," Fei said, leaning back on her desk. Fei has always been the cool girl everyone fawns over and dreams they can be with or even be her. But when they do be with her, they soon learn the truth of her personality.
She's a huge superhero nerd.
Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, Archie, and even Darkhorse comics. If it's printed and published, Fei will be all over it.
But her all-time favorite team has to be none other than the Protectors, actual real-life heroes that help save the day wherever they can and however they can.
This might have been the reason why her potential love interests have never really stuck around, tho. They just want to see how cool she is, not talk about how many Green Lanterns have been Published.
"I still can't believe you're going to meet Cat Noir in Paris," one of her male classmates teased her, possibly an ex-boyfriend.
"IT'S 'CHAT' NOIR AND YOU KNOW IT!" Fei yelled out to him as he laughs at her.
Later that day, Fei was actually practicing her martial arts with an older gentleman with short grey hair, blacker eyebrows, and a kind look on his face.
"You seem distressed, Fei," he said as he blocked a kick from her. "Is something the matter?"
Fei threw one more punch and he dodged it. "I...I think so, Master Wu Shifu." Fei said as she panted a bit, as Wu knew something was up with his pupil. Both of them sat down together as they started talking.
"I'm scared, Master," Fei told the older man.
"I know it may be, Fei, but I do hope everything goes your way," Wu said, assuring her. "I do hope that One day, after your academics, you can return here to finish your training to be indicted into the Guardian Order."
This thought made Fei smiled. 10 years ago, her mother died in a freak train accident on the Shanghai Transrapid where she fell in front of the tracks. Fei was lost until Wu Shifu helped her get over the loss by helping her remember that she will always be there for her. She was later told about the guardian order, its mission to help keep order across the world and maintain it. With the rise of Papillon and Mayura, the order needed to step up a bit, which meant speeding up Fei's training.
"So does this mean I get to bring a Miraculous with me?" Fei politely asked as Wu chuckled at the thought.
"Sadly, no," Wu told her as Fei seemed sad. "But, there is a mission you can do with me before you leave."
Fei's ears perked up from that. "You mean the Sacred Cave of the Prodigious?"
"Persiceley," Wu told her. "Only may the spirits of virtues, the Relings, can choose who can wield its power of the legendary Prodigious."
"What does it do?" Fei asked, now curious to see.
"I may not know a lot about it, but it says to contains all 8 powers of the bear, mantis, eagle, tiger, monkey, snake, horse, and Dragon miraculous," Wu explained. "And once we get it, we can help the world out."
"Can't wait to help you out, Master," Fei happily said as her phone started going off. She pulls it out her phone and sees the time. "Aw Crap!"
"Not to worry, my eager appetence," Wu said, understanding she needs to head home now. "We'll resume tomorrow."
"Thanks for the training, Master," Fei said as she ran off. When she was 20 minutes out, Fei pulled out her phone to listen to her tunes, but she then realizes something. "Aw crap, my headphones!" She yelped out. "I forgot them at master's place." Fei turned around and hurried back where she wanted to knock on her door, but hears his voice inside, talking about something...weird.
"I assure you, my fellow guardians, that I have everything under control," Wu said out loud as Fei hears this and widens her eyes. Fei then hides in the bushes, uses some fresh mud to coat her face so she can blend in better as she was listening into Wu, who was speaking to astral projections of 2 of the guardians: one is a strong looking man and the other was a slightly shorter, balder gentleman with big, black, bushy eyebrows, who were wearing the same red and black ropes Wu was wearing.
"Last time We had everything under control, Monk lost the Eagle miraculous to a man named Georgie," the bald one spoke. "Now the Eagle miraculous of Liberation is on display for all to see while the symbol of the Eagle is part of the United States coat of arms."
"George Washington was a miraculous holder?" Fei thought to herself as major truth bombs were being dropped.
"Remember, Wu," the taller one, Monk, spoke, "You must not lose the Prodigious for it is the key to truly maintaining order in this world."
"Fu thought that his plan to recruit as many miraculous wielders as possible would be a good thing in Paris, even going as far as 2 of them being in the public's wrong hands," the shorter one said. "Once we secure the Prodigious again, we can finally put an end to so many rifrafts in the world, including the Protectors."
"Of course, Celestial Guardian Su-Han," Wu said, bowing a bit. "Soon, the Protectors, Papillon and Mayura can be dealt with, and we can truly bring order to this world."
Fei, outside Wu's place of residence, heard all of this and bolted. She ran and didn't even think of looking back, just in case they can sense her from outside.
Later that night, she was cleaned up, got dressed, and barely ate any of her father's food. She was horrified at the fact that Wu, the man she looked to as the grandfather she never had, indirectly lie to her. She didn't know what was going on, but one thing she knew for certain: she had 2 days to figure out what to do before Wu can get his hands on the Prodigious.
Or else she will never meet her heroes.
