Hadrian was a odd little child.
They never cried, for starters. They didn't seem care for feelings, nor did they seem give empathy.
The Potters tried, they really did, but no one seemed to understand Hadrian other than Luna "Loony" Lovegood. Even she, was misunderstood by most people. Lily Potter tried talking to Xenophilius to understand how he communicated with little Luna, but he was no help whatsoever.
"Does your son have Fae Sight?"
"Xeno…they don't like being confined to one gender—"
"Ah, well let me rephrase that: Does your child have Fae Sight?"
"How am I supposed to know? They are rather closed off when it comes to anything personal,"
Xeno pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Nevermind, Nevermind about Fae Sight. Do they seem to speak about things that never happened? Does Hadrian spew off ominous-sounding warnings to anyone and everyone?"
Lily blinked and tapped her feet on the smooth linoleum floor, deep in thought.
"Yes I suppo—?"
"Cassiopeia Black. Your husband's great aunt, in Hadrian's case — great great aunt. She is a real Seer, go to her." Xenophilius all but threw a piece of written paper at her:
Cassiopeia Amalthea Vega Black
Blackstone Manor
Lendiona Island
I, Cassiopeia Amalthea Vega Black, give permission to Xenophilius Lovegood and anyone to whom he gives this note to, enter the Blackstone Manor
She did plan on taking Hadrian to James and Sirius' Great Aunt Cassiopeia Black, the Seer Xeno had implored her to go to. She doesn't like many of the Blacks other than Narcissa, Bellatrix (Call me Bella!), Andromeda and James' mother Dorea. Lily was skittish when it came to Walburga and Orion…she did not want to deal with another one.
Hadrian stared at the Sorting Hat.
Honestly, what was going on in Godric's mind when he said a hat of all people and things was to sort children?
'I suppose you are right…here it comes' Hetalia murmured in Hadrian's head. Hetalia was Hadrian, technically speaking, but a more separately sentient part of them. Hadrian had a more masculine personality, but they still felt like Hetalia's years of feminine attitude was rubbing of them, hence the pronouns. Hetalia had always been girlish, constantly cooing at dresses and pointing out attractive-looking girls and boys.
Speaking of attractive people, Hetalia was currently infatuated with a certain Tom Riddle.
Currently.
Hadrian felt lucky they weren't a girl.
Their metamorphmagus abilities did help a little, but it took days for Hadrian and Hetalia to settle on a single body that would look appealing to both of them. The result was a heavily androgynous 'pretty boy' as Hetalia called them, and Hadrian felt the need to bang their head on the un-sorted table.
"Potter, Bethany!" a rather stern looking woman called out before amusing the already sorted Gryffindors by turning into a dark tabby cat.
'I suppose she is an Animagus' Hadrian mused, grinning at the tabby who was being petted by a 7th prefect.
"SLYTHERIN!" the hat yelled and was swiftly taken off Bethany Potter's head by the supposed animagus after turning back into a woman again. Hadrian could barely see the nametag "Professor McGonagall, Head of Gryffindor"
'Soooo, the Hat sorted ickle Bethy didn't she?' Hetalia giggled
'Yes, Bethany the Snake, I imagine Uncle John would have a fit" Hadrian said in his mind-scape and retreated back out when their name was called.
"Potter, Hadrianus!"
'I am going to die.' Hadrian wailed in their head
'I think' Hetalia mused with a mischievous undertone in their voice, 'That Mum and Dad named you after a king. That probably explains the grandiose name on the Book Of Names.'
Hadrian sighed and walked up to the front of the great hall, and sat down on the velvet purple chair.
The smell of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans was quite strong here.
'Why thank you,' The Hat said.
'That wasn't a compliment,' Hadrian fumed 'I HATE Bertie Bott's, Henry ruined it for me."
"Ah, Henry has a lot of courage in him. But he has a streak of arrogance that no house would accept.'
'AHAHAHAHA' Hetalia cackled gleefully
'Humph. Enough about siblings. Hmmm…you have a nice thirst to prove yourself…Ambition and cunning, that you have. Salazar would weep if you were in any other house. Ah! You have a love of learning not many could compete with, you would do well in Ravenclaw as well. Although you have bravery, you don't have a chivalric streak for everyone; you would not save a stranger or your enemy. Your Hufflepuff side is extremely lacking, you are hard working but only loyal to one and only one person. You have a great thirst for knowledge, Yes, you have wisdom beyond your years…you love learning itself, and Rowena would be proud if you were a RAVENCLAW!'
The hat was being taken of their head.
Hadrian felt like a first year, even if they started Hogwarts on their 5th year.
But they felt light, even as they walked into the bronze and blue Ravenclaw table, the warm feeling wouldn't go away.
Hadrian Potter was happy, happy! And they didn't want it to go away.
In the river of warmth, Hadrian did not notice a pair of dark blue eyes stare in avid curiosity.
