He should never have fallen in love with him.

His brother warned him about it.

His mom told him he'd only get hurt in the end.

And even his father, who's usually stoic and detached seemed concerned.

That was when he first introduced Naruto to his family nearly five years ago. The blond captivated the vampire so with his vibrant blue sapphire eyes that rival the sky and a smile so bright that it puts the sun to shame.

Naruto had been the only human to not fear a vampire, much to Sasuke's fascination. His fascination grew to admiration and eventually adoration when he discovered that the blond man was an omega. For Naruto was unlike any omega that Sasuke knew or met before.

While other omegas of all species, may they be human, vampire or lycan, are simpering weaklings, Naruto's enthusiasm and even chivalry rival that of other alphas. The omega took risks, more so than most alphas and isn't afraid to challenge even those he perceived as stronger or more powerful than him. In fact, Sasuke was surprised to see the omega nearly overpower him when they first met.

He had been out hunting that time when a sweet scent assaulted his nose. Now Sasuke's not the type to like sweets, but this sweetness is unlike he's ever smelt before. There's a hint of spice and irresistible allure to it that he can't help but be drawn.

Curious, he made his way to the direction of the scent's origin only to be met with a strong and sturdy frame of a human, walking with a golden German shepherd that rivals his hair in the way it sparkles and shone from the distance. For a brief second, Sasuke's interest was piqued.

To think that a human would willingly walk his dog in the middle of the night, close to midnight all in his own is something that has struck the alpha vampire as odd. And yes, Sasuke knew it's ridiculous; how the vampire society stuck with the alpha-omega castes of the Lycan tribes but Sasuke had been born an alpha, been trained and taught in its customs by his family for too long that he didn't question it. He had been leading the Uchiha clan in his brother's stead who had been born a beta and he's not about to abandon his responsibilities just because of his thoughts against the established system.

Although he's an alpha, he never used his status to intimidate others nor to demand respect from his clansmen. Besides, as the only known alpha in the family to wield the Mangekyo Sharingan, his rule had been undisputed from the start anyway and there's no need for him to brandish his pheromones in such a blatant matter.

But seeing and smelling this scent in front of him has an irrepressible effect of bringing out the alpha within him.

"Holy! I didn't see you there!" Came the surprised yelp from the omega. And Sasuke then decided that he liked the soft husky yet gravelly voice that emerged from those sweet velvety lips. His black obsidian eyes were fixated on the young man's throat. By the looks of his face, he appears to be in his early twenties but the body before the vampire is beyond that. It's built, more so than even regular betas. The unmistakable sweet scent of an omega is an oxymoron to the masculine and toned body in front of the vampire, confusing Sasuke and rendering him speechless. His eyes traced the strong neck muscles that sit atop the mortal's well-built shoulders, his chest and biceps stretching his tight hugging orange shirt, leaving almost nothing to the imagination; despite the fabric obscuring the muscles underneath.

"You okay?" Came the voice again, snapping the vampire from his thoughts.

"Y-yeah. A bit late to walk your dog isn't it?" Sasuke's eyes landed on the dog in front of the omega. The dog has a blue and amber eyes. An unusual choice for a dog, for sure. And like its master the dog is well built, more so than the average German shepherd. In fact, it's so well-built that one would think the dog has a German shepherd's head placed on top of a pit bull's body. It's just unbelievable and unusual.

"Yeah. Kurama prefers the cooler nights." The omega replied casually. "And I have work and gym for the rest of the day anyway." The dog approached the vampire cautiously and that was when Sasuke noticed that the German shepherd had no leash on him, just a simple dog collar with a dog tag.

"He likes you." The omega smiled at the other man in front of him. And in that instant, the vampire felt a strange warmth spreading from his chest as he saw the blinding smile radiating from the omega's face. The act was so innocent… so naïve but it awakened a strange desire within the vampire's chest.

Without a second thought, his eyes bled into crimson as he pinned the omega to a nearby tree, his fangs elongating as the hint of lust, thirst and hunger bubbled from the pit of his stomach. The omega's sweet scent is more intense now and it didn't occur to the vampire then that there's no fear in the man's azure eyes.

The dog growled, but otherwise laid lazily as he watched his master being pinned by the vampire, as if knowing that there's no real danger or threat.

"Tsk tsk. Is this how you greet strangers? You're a real bastard aren't you?" Sasuke was taken aback at the playful yet firm tone behind the voice as the naïve and innocent smile on the omega's face turned playful and teasing. Sasuke's face turned to confusion as he felt the omega's hand gripped the vampire's wrist firmly.

"What? Aren't you afraid? Have you any idea what am I?" Sasuke finally managed to choke out despite his confusion.

"Oh I know what you are, alpha." Naruto spoke as he sniffed the air around him. "You're not exactly subtle in hiding just what you are." Before Sasuke has realized it, the omega before him has flipped their position with such ease that he never even noticed it. "Don't underestimate me just because I'm an omega."

Sharingan eyes widened in surprise. Just what is this human that he's able to effortlessly resist not just his pheromones but his vampiric allure as well?

"Cat got your tongue, teme? Tsk tsk." The omega finally released his hold upon the alpha as he took a step backwards. "You'll have a good night, now teme." Sasuke could only look on as the omega's back left and with him, his dog followed.

Sasuke would then stalk the same park day in and day out and like clockwork, at almost 11 in the evening the omega would arrive with his dog.

"Here again, huh?"

"Tsk. I don't know why but I just can't stay away from you, it seems." Sasuke would reply, much to the omega's amusement.

"They all say that. That's also part of the reason why I walk with Kurama at night. No annoying alphas to deal with. Except for you that is." But there's no hostility in the omega's tone. More like he's playful and amused than anything.

"I'm Naruto. Naruto Uzumaki." The omega extended a hand to the alpha's. The vampire raised an eyebrow, surprised that the human would even give his name and extend a hand out for a handshake. But a small twitch tugged at the vampire's lips. The omega human is really piquing his interest now. And so Sasuke took the hand with a small smile.

"Sasuke. Sasuke Uchiha."

The omega grinned.

"You think that's wise of you? To give your full name to a human?"

Sasuke smirked back. "Nah. I think I'm comfortable enough with you. Plus, I don't think you'll use my name against me anyway. I can see it in your eyes. You're an honest and kind person Naruto."

It was the omega's turn to be surprised, a slight blush was forming on his cheeks; unused to being complimented like this. Sure other alphas have made advances on him before, but they were more or less after his body. No one has complimented his eyes like this before.

"What's the matter, dobe? Cat got your tongue?" This seemed to have snapped the omega out of his trance before sending a half-hearted glare at the alpha's way.

"What did you call me?" Sasuke noted how the omega's voice became higher. He decided that he too, like this omega's side.

The alpha smirked even wider as the omega's cheeks turned red in annoyance.

"I'll show you who's a dobe, teme!" And that was the start of their friendship. Their midnight rendezvous would continue for a few months before they finally became friends. Over time, that friendship would grow even more, first when Naruto started inviting the alpha to coffee shops with him during daytime or to casual friendly movie dates.

Through it all, Sasuke was slightly amused at the prospect that it was an omega who's pursuing an alpha, rather than the other way around. Frankly, the vampire didn't know what the omega sees in him. But for the omega to actively initiate anything still came at a surprise, and intrigued him. The omega simply radiates and oozes confidence and strength; that Sasuke can't look nor stay away.

In fact, it was Naruto who asked the alpha to be his boyfriend, something that Sasuke was quick to accept, fueled by his growing interest on this headstrong omega who seemingly takes the lead, an unconventional behavior for sure. But Sasuke liked it. After being the boss of the Uchiha clan for so long, he felt that it's nice for once to be the one who's being led around. And the omega can be very caring and romantic when he wanted.

The omega was not selfish when it comes to displays of affection. And once they have warmed up to each other, Naruto have spoiled his alpha rotten. So when he asked Sasuke to be his boyfriend, Sasuke had no objections, already hooked and addicted to being treated and pampered; an attention that he's not used to getting as head of the Uchiha clan.

As an alpha of the vampire clan, he was trained to take care of his clansmen, not the other way around. The needs of the group was to come first. And aside from his brother Itachi, no one really showered the alpha the attention that he craves, until Naruto that is.

When the alpha vampire finally introduced the human to his family, it was a rather interesting affair. The whole family, was in an uproar.

"Do you realize what this means Sasuke?"

"I do father. And I don't care. I love him. For years I bled and worked for this clan. Please give me this at least."

Fugaku was contemplative as he saw the omega grasped the alpha's hand comfortingly as they had dinner at the Uchiha estate.

"But he's a mortal, Sasuke. Sooner or later he'll—"

"Don't say it! Please. Don't say it. I love him. He's the only one for me. Please father, let me have this." Naruto blushed at his words then and the vampire's family could only look on in sympathy. While it's not unheard of for vampires to fall in love with humans, it can be a very tragic affair.

Sasuke would realize that now as he regarded Tsunade with a confused expression.

"What-what did you say?"

Tsunade sighed. "I said your mate is dying. A human omega may be built to handle pregnancy but to sire a vampire offspring can tax their system. Even an omega's biology can't conquer a vampiric blood." The doctor said slowly, her eyes mournful as she glanced at the surprised and shocked alpha in front of her.

"You should go to him, Sasuke. He won't last that much longer. I'm really sorry."

Numbly, Sasuke looked at the doctor before he stepped into the room. Naruto was holding their son. But the omega was hooked to a respirator, his labored breathing audible across the room.

"Naruto…" The vampire stepped closer to his mate and held his hand. Slowly, sapphire blue eyes would open and regarded the alpha weakly.

"Sasuke…" The vampire gulped as he noticed how frail the omega looked. The omega has lost much of his muscle. And although they had been warned about this once they discovered that Naruto's pregnant, it still leaves an unsettling feeling in the pit of the alpha's stomach to see the headstrong and prideful omega slowly grew to become weaker and weaker as his stage of pregnancy progressed.

The omega smiled at him weakly. "He's here, Sasuke. Menma's here."

Sasuke can't help but return the smile, despite the storm of emotions raging from within him. He kissed the omega's forehead.

"Thank you Naruto for bringing him to me. He's beautiful."

"Yeah. He got your dark hair teme. But he definitely have my eyes. You'll see when he opens it."

"I love you, Naruto."

"I love you, too, Sasuke. I'm glad you're here by my side. Thank you for everything." Thank you for loving me. Was the unspoken words.

Sasuke was about to reply when he realized that the omega's hand has stopped holding his back.

"Naruto?"

Suddenly, panic arose from within the alpha's chest.

"Naruto! Please no." Tears were forming at the edge of his eyes as he gripped the limp hand like a lifeline. "Please don't leave me, you promised... You promised you won't leave me." Sasuke was nearly out of breath as his hysterical cries rang hollow through the room.

Sasuke called the nurse but by then it was too late. It was Tsunade who confirmed the alpha's worst fears.

"I'm sorry, Sasuke, we've already done what we can for him."

That night, Naruto died with a smile on his face. Sasuke could only laugh bitterly.

"But he's a mortal, Sasuke. Sooner or later he'll—" he'll die before you.

Only then had Sasuke realized just what his father had meant by then. As a vampire, he knew this is the risk he took when he fell in love with a mortal. But still, it hurts to see the one he loves die in front of him. How ironic that just as Sasuke has gained a new life, his other half would be taken from him. He can only laugh bitterly at his cruel fate.

But as he cradled Menma on his chest and gaze, upon those endless pool of blue gazing up at him, Sasuke's resolve was rekindled.

I'll take care of this life that you gifted me, Naruto. I promise.

Was his thought as he gazed up at the stars above, contemplating what the future holds as Menma's eyes shone red for a moment before returning to their usual shade of blue.

A/N: My apologies for the lack of updates in my other stories. This week had been so busy and I'm dealing with a lot of personal issues. I hope this short one shot didn't turn out too bad. This was inspired by reading too many vampire fics here. And this is just my small way of destressing and indulging my angst for the time being. I'll probably turn this into a multi-chapter soon if I have more time to develop it.

A/N 2: Kalalaw is my native tongue's word for constellation. I actually just learned of it just now.
