A Blind date turns out right Prolog: Hanna Back story
Hanna POV
My name is Hanna Valka Haddock the third, I am Straight A student all throughout high school and has always wanted more out of her life before I takes over My fathers company Haddock industry the biggest tech company and I decided to join the military more precise the Navy right after high school while getting my masters degree in business management and entrepreneurship, during this I have my long time boyfriend Asher Hofferson, older brother of Astrid Hofferson my longtime girl-friend we all met in middle school and we just hit it off from there. Me and Astrid are close as sisters can be without being blood.
I waited to join t the Navy SEALS 5 years after I joined up and I was the first woman to do so in the 59 history of the SEALS just over half a century since it first formed in 1962 and because of this I paved the way for other woman do join the Navy SEALS if they wanted, though it probably helped that my parents were and still are for the case of my mother still active but both of them were high rank and highly decorated Vets might have to do with me being accepted into the SEALS program, and by the end of the thirty months found myself apart of SEAL Team 6.
The Training was tough but I have always loved a challenge and with both of my parents are military vets well my mom was still active but she transferred to the National guard for the Air force while my dad was in the army so both of them help quite a bit when it comes to preparing for that lifestyle. My training consented of me having to swim 500 yards in 12.5 minutes or less, then rests for ten minutes then do 45 push-ups in under 2 minutes, rest again for two minutes then do 50 sit-up in under 2 minutes, rest again for ten minutes then do 6 pull up rest for ten minutes, and lastly run 1.5 miles in boots and long pants in less than 11.5 minutes. To say the least I crushed and I ran laps around the other boys, that was just the interest exam and I also had to 40/20 vision in one eye and 70/20 in the other which was no problem because I had perfect vision, I also had to pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery witch was no problem for me from growing up in a military home, along with the physical examination I mentioned earlier. Then the actual training begins starting with basic underwater SEAL Demolition or in layman's words BUDS it breaks down into four categories Introduction, Basic Conditioning, SCUBA Training, and Land warfare training. My BUDS training was the longest and most difficult training that I have ever done there were times that I almost quite but I thought of all the women out there that now have the chance to be a Navy SEAL and I can't let them down or else they might not let another woman try and join up in another 56 or or more. The rest of my BUDS training was mostly the indoctrination course (the first 5 weeks) learn the ways of the SEAL then its 8 weeks of basic conditioning were we were told that we were going to be pushed beyond our physical limits and during this close to if not half the SEAL recruits dropped out during these eight weeks just for reverence there was 50 of us at the start of this and now there is only about 20 or thirty of us still standing by the end of the eight weeks. Also during those eight weeks we had to learn how to operate a small raft and swim about a mile or 2 in the open ocean, running calisthenics and if our results don't improve from week to week we will get discharged and each event is time so there that added pressure to our training. Another aspect of our trains and probably the most dangerous part is the drown proofing, where are hands and feet are bound as we swim and complete certain tasks, we had to bob in water for 5 minutes, float for another 5 minutes, swim 100 meters, bob again for 2 minutes, do some forward and backwards flips, swim to the bottom of the pool and retrieve an object with our teeth, swim back to the surfaces and bob again for another 5 minutes and we had to do this with our hands and feet bound together. Another thing we did that was absolute torture was the surf torture where we had to do calisthenics in the surf and the water was 65 degrees but berks water always ran colder then most places so it was more closer to -35 degrease, then run in our wet cloths and for 1.5 miles then repeat. During was something is lovingly called hell week. Where we trained non stop for a five days and five nights with only 4 measly hours of sleep each night it started sundown on Sunday and ended on sundown the next Friday and I had to admit it I was close to quitting yet again but I push forward not just for me but all woman in the military who wanted to become SEALS
Once my training was done and was a full fledged NAVY SEAL with my role as infantry but I was also medic, translate, and mechanic I also got my code name Nótt loðinn which translates roughly to Night Furry for my stealth and superior accuracy with any weapon. I also got the Navy Flag and triton tattoo on my as well as the Navy SEALS code on my arm as well as a dragon tattoo of the legendary Night fury said to be trained by one of my ancestors during the Viking age.
When I was 21 years old and was a 0-9 Lieutenant Commander at the time and was working in the military and while I was home on leave I was working with my dad and posting YouTube videos mostly fitness videos, recruitment videos, and reaction videos, I also did some video game play-through, and I was gaining a lot of followers on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and on TikTock.
home on leave and I surprised my dad because I didn't tell him I was coming home I found out that I came in to my father just securing a merge with Hunters CO and I was happy for him. He had always tried to secure a merger with a company for a while and with Hunters CO being the biggest distribution company as well as a tech company, and with my dad with his tech company they will both be the biggest tech company in the world what was surprises was that my father will take over the tech part of Hunter CO and just focus on the distribution of both of their product. My time at home for two weeks leave was spent with my family and my boyfriend and for some reason in the back of my head and in my gut that when I return to duty shit is going to hit the fan and I might not become back in one piece.
Two month later in Iraq
It was two months later after two weeks and me and my platoon were going into heavily patrolled enemy territory to either capture or kill a high profile target that could end the war here in Iraq. as we enter the compound were he was it was quite to quite for my taste as I told my unit to be careful but what happen next was what helheim is like for out of nowhere grenades started to rain down us with gun fire as well we were pinned down, and we were getting mowed down and we were injured but out of all of us I was the most injured with my left leg was mangle from bullet wounds and explosion and the shrapnel from the explosion, and my right arm was almost completely blown off from a high powered sniper round also I had burns covering most of my body but probably the worst injury I have besides my leg and arm was the piece of shrapnel that was lodge in my right eye and in the left side of my chest that it was making it hard to breath.
but we had to complete this mission when I spotted our target and I told my unit for half to give me cover fire while the other half of the unit got to the extraction ready for us while I got our target. I ran through gun fire and explosion and by some miracle despise being injured and killing multiple enemies in the process I got to the target knocking him out and put him on my shoulders or what remains of them at this point and I just run not really caring about blood loss at this point just running on pure adrenaline and once I got back to my unite I just collapse into my teammates arms, then I knew nothing else except for my teammates caring me and distant voice and almost phantom touches on my body then truly nothing but sweet nothing.
4 months later Berk Naval Veterans Hospital
The first sensation that I felt was the sun on my face as open my eyes it was blurry and I can only see out my left side of my body as I look around my room I see my team around in hospital beds then I realized that I myself are in a hospital as well, as I got a better look at my team I know that they were injured but the severity of their injures shocked my most of my team were missing limbs but I was happy that we had all survive and that our efforts help ended the war even though we will never give the credit for it. Now that I was more awake I moved my left hand to feel my face and realized that were my right eye is supposed to be now there was an eye patch or what I thought was one, I also saw were my right arm should be now set and empty sleeve and the same goes for my left leg but I still had my knee and a little skin beneath it. To say I was shocked I was down a limb and a half, my right eye was completely gone and I can't imagine the scars that cover my body beneath my hospital gown. I was lost in my thoughts when I felt a hand on my left shoulder bring me out and what I could make out with my one eye it was a military doctor who told me that if it wasn't for my teammates I wouldn't have made it due to my injuries and that not only me but my team are medically discharged from the military and that I still have a close to a year or so until I was fully healed but I could be discharged from the hospital in 2 months they just wanted to make sure that I don't get an infection mainly in my right eye or what was left of it and in my amputation sits and the wound on my chest where they removed the shrapnel.
I was fine with that for I have my YouTube career as well as my presents on other social media platforms and my job within my father company and I can probably swing jobs in the company for them.
During my last two months in the hospital I got to spend my time between PT and spending time in my room with my teammates and I did tell them that I can get them jobs with in my fathers company who for 8 months or so now had join with Hunters CO and they were grateful for this opportunity and I told them I have to run it by my father fist but he will be more than willing to help out fellow veterans.
Also during my recovery I was fitted for a prosthetic leg but not an arm my shoulder is do damage to support a prosthetic as in my right arm wasn't even there, but there was an upside to this I was given as service dog well it was a dog I saw at the shelter my parents took me to as an outing from the hospital and there is were I saw dog at the very end of the row kennels a rather large dog who looks like more wolf than dog and I just felt drawn to this dog and for some reason i knew this was the dog for me so I adopted her and name her toothless and I am going to have her train as my service dog so I took her to be train for me to help with my mobility due to the fact I am blind in one eye (as in my right eye is completely gone) and that I am a double amputee ( my right arm and my left leg) and I was also diagnosed with severe PTSD from my 20 years serving in the military and I expect to have some leave of PTSD but with how bad my case is was surprising I was barely getting any sleep and any sleep I did get was riddle with nightmares I was having very depressing thoughts and thoughts of self harm and lashing out at the doctors, though nights are now better with toothless and now that I am medicated for all of this with an anti depression and a sleeping pill plus I was seeing a therapist every 3 weeks to check on my progress.
Also during my recovery my visited my parents and Astrid but never Asher I try multiple time to contact him and this is weird even for him we have been together by this point for 10 years he was with me during my calls home when things got tough he always found a way to make me feel better but now when I need him the most during my recovery he is nowhere to be found. and this angered me when the one person I wanted to see besides my parents wasn't there to support me in these dark times for me
two months later
So by the time that I could leave the hospital two months with toothless by my sided and a cane/ walking stick to help me see what is on my right side. I went straight to his home and what I found was downright heart breaking that he was having sex with another woman as I yell and curse at him asking what the hell was going on and he told me that he couldn't be with a disfigure war vet it would look bad for his image as a rising star in the acting world and he need someone who was as beautiful as he was. And to insult to injury they were dating while I was not only training in the military but during my time serving in the military (20 years and about 14 of the 20 we were dating).
I was mad as hell when he said that I almost died serving our country and making sure that he has the freedom to actually pursue this, so I slapped him in the face and kick him in the balls and told him that hope he's happy with his new hoe and don't come crying to me and begging to take me back when she leaves him for someone more successful. After I said my peace I went home to my parents and told them that Asher was cheating on me and that he was also getting marry to the girl he was cheated on me with, the were understandable mad at him and even Astrid was shocked that he own brother would betrayed me in that ways and she would let her parents know what he did to me. But now I had to focus on healing myself both physically and mentally before I even think about dating again and even then it's goanna be a while before I put myself out there again. But there is something that Asher said that still rang out in the back of my mind that no one will date a disfigured war vet and that brought genuine fear to me because in a way I was disfigured I was missing an eye I was a double amputee with a bad case of PTSD and it would take a special kind of person to even want to go out an a date with me and now that my biggest fear is that I will die alone with no one but my family to care for me.
