Turning onto the two lane country road, Gyumao increased his speed as Satan City came into to view. The rising sun behind him lighting up the glass jungle. Usually, he preferred to drive with a bit more caution, but not today. No, a miracle was happening today and he just had to be there when it did.

'I can't believe it!' He thought as houses began to fly by. The growing populace indicating his close proximity to the cities entrance.

Coming to a red light, he stopped and took a moment to dab at his damp eyes. Unable to hold back the joyous flood of emotion that overcame him. Laughing at himself, he stuffed the handkerchief back in his breast pocket and continued his trek into the city.

If the sages had warned him of his metamorphosis from a powerful warlord to a doting grandfather, he'd never have believed it. Having once been feared so that they literally called him a demon. Now, here he was, driving to the hospital with a mountain of baby gifts bursting out of his backseat.

Chuckling to himself, he again found his eyes misting. Just the thinking about who those presents were for had him overwhelmed. Giving his head a shake, he forced the sentimental thoughts aside and focused on the road. A set of puffy red eyes was not the first image he wanted his great-grandchild to see.

Around 2am, he received a call from his daughter informing him that Videl's water finally broke. Eager to meet the newborn, he almost left immediately before she calmly told it wasn't necessary yet.

"Dad, you should know from my experience that this isn't a normal process. She could be in labor for hours before giving birth." Chichi admonished.

"Yes, yes.. You're right. I'm sorry, I forgot about that." He sighed heavily.

On the other end, Chichi smiled at his exuberance. Knowing how thrilled he was to be a new grandfather again. "It's ok dad. We're all excited. The last time there was a baby in the family was Goten."

"That's true, he's what? 10 now?"

"Yep."

"Wow, I can't believe it's been 10 years….time really does fly by."

Taking a deep breath, Chichi nodded slowly. "Yes, it does. I'm going to let her and Gohan have a moment together then I'll head over to help out. We don't want those contractions getting too close together or she'll be having that baby at home."

"You're not rushing over there now? That's a first for you. I assumed you'd be the first one trying to drag her to the hospital." He chuckled, genuinely surprised at Chichi's calm behavior. She'd been hovering over his granddaughter in law since the beginning of that poor girls pregnancy. Naturally he thought she'd be the frantic one, not him.

Blushing at his comment, she huffed in defense. "For your information, I know how to be calm."

Shaking his head, he decided to pacify his daughter. "You're absolutely right dear. I'm sorry." The laughter in his voice still present.

"Hmpf. I may be old, but I remember what it was like to be young and pregnant. That moment when you realize you're about to bring a new life into the world." Her tone softening as she spoke.

"It's important for a young couple to have that moment. To look at each other and be happy….and scared…together."

Leaning back against his headboard, Gyumao silently listened to his daughter speak. Remembering, how she struggled during her last pregnancy.

When his son in law died, it left a large gaping hole in their family. One he tried desperately to help fill. Though, if he were honest, his oldest grandson had earned that honor. His constant cheerfulness and positivity is what managed to salve the wound they felt. The young man made it a point to stay by his mother's side. Even going as far to hold his her hand when she gave birth to his brother. The family slowly began to heal, but that scar never really faded.

Through a process he still didn't quite understand, Goku was resurrected and returned to their family. His presence had been the binding force they dearly missed and having him back was a much needed in improvement on their morale. However, though it's been 3 years, he knew his daughter still held some resentment for him not being there when she needed him most.

This new addition to their family would be a new beginning for them. A way out of the gray cloud they had been under for so long.

Knowing his daughter the way he did and the importance of this moment, Gyumao wasn't about to let the past keep her from experiencing something beautiful.

"You know, this isn't just about the kids. It's about you too!"

"What do you mean?"

"Chichi...you're grandparents now. That's a very special moment to share with your husband. Isn't Goku home?"

"For once." Rolling her eyes in response.

"I always wished your mother could be here to see our grandchildren. But you don't have to." He emphasized.

"I think you should all go be with Videl when it's time."

"Dad…I don't…"

"Honey…I know what you're going to say. And yes, I do know my son in law. He hates waiting around…"

"And he hates hospitals." She chimed in.

"However, I have a feeling you won't need to worry about that this time. You don't even have to say anything. Just get the care ready and he'll follow. Remember how he hovered when you were pregnant? Trust me, he wants to be there too."

Patiently waiting for his words sink in, he eventually heard her sigh, noting that she'd made up her mind.

"Ok dad. I'll give it try."

"Good. Call when me you think it's getting close and I'll meet you at the hospital ok?"

"I will dad."

"OI! CHICHI!"

"Goku! I'm on the phone!"

"Is the baby ready yet?"

"Oh for the love of….It's a baby not a turkey!"

Gyumao chuckled again as she hung up the phone.

The baby was definitely ready now. Just after sunrise, Chichi called stating the contractions had gotten stronger so they were on their way to the hospital. Hearing Goku in the background asking about boiling water, he knew that she was successful in getting him there. Now the true test would be him actually staying in the hospital.

Seeing the Hospital entrance, Gyumao quickly found a parking spot and ran inside. His intimidating size causing the receptionist to gawk in fright.

"Good Morning. My granddaughter is already admitted. She about to give birth." He said proudly.

Eased by his pleasant tone, she smiled back and offered him congratulations. "Oh my! A great-grandchild, you must be excited!"

"We all are!"

"Well let's get you on your way. We don't want you to miss anything."

After quickly checking in, he made is way up to the birthing ward. He knew he was in the right place when he saw Goku and Mr. Satan pacing in the hallway while his other grandson watched the two men with interest.

"Goku! Is the baby here yet?" Running over to his son in law.

Frowning, he looked up with a pout. "No. Chichi kicked me out when the doctor came in. She knows I hate needles. I mean it was gigantic!" Holding out his hands to demonstrate the size.

Mr. Satan threw his hands up and yelled back at him. "It's called an epidural! I still can't believe that you're able to throw down with a literal God of Destruction and be afraid of needles. It's ridiculous!"

Gyumao was pretty sure Goku freaked out as usual so she just made everybody get out. But, he wasn't surprised.

Confirming his suspicions, Goten jumped in with a roll of his eyes. "Dad…you did get a little crazy."

Crossing his arms defensively. Goku stood his ground. "I still don't see how that was supposed to help. That needle was huge!"

Ignoring their bickering, he knocked on the door and announced himself. "Gohan! Chichi! It's me."

When the door swung open, he caught a glimpse of his grandson standing next to the hospital bed holding his wife's hand. Her red sweaty face pinched in pain as she focused on her breathing.

"You made it just in time. She's about to start pushing. They were going to give her something for the pain, but she was too far along."

At the sound, of Videl grunting he nodded and let his daughter get back in the room. Sending up a silent prayer for a safe delivery.

Standing in the hallway nervously rubbing his hands, he observed the new grandfathers at his side. Both silent as groans of pain filtered through the door. The sound of encouragement from his daughter and grandson echoing against the walls. He could feel the tension rolling off of them in waves. Even his young grandson sat quietly with his eyes closed in prayer. All waiting for the new life that was about to be born.

Suddenly, a shrill cry broke the silence. The loud continuous wail rattling the windows behind them.

"Whoa! That's definitely a Saiyan baby." Goku laughed excitedly as Mr. Satan stared at the door in shock.

"Did I sound like that?" Goten asked covering his ears.

Laughing heartily, Gyumao nodded at his grandson. "Yes, exactly like that."

Walking next to his son, Goku reached down to ruffle Gotens hair. A nostalgic look on his face. "I wish I could've been there. Ha ha…I still remember how Gohan used to break glass when he cried."

Snapping out of his stupor, Mr. Satan drew closer to the door. "It must be a boy then. What do you think?"

"I don't care. They'll be strong so it doesn't matter to me." Goku shrugged nonchalantly.

As he was about to respond, Chichi opened the door yelling at the top of her lungs."It's a girl! It's a girl!"

Grabbing her husband, she drug him inside to meet their granddaughter. Slowly walking behind them, he pulled his handkerchief out and dabbed at his eyes. The sight of his first great-grandchild making him emotional again.

Standing back, he watched as Gohan carefully handed his now quiet daughter to his father before going back to hold his tired wifes hand. Proudly looking on as his father greeted the little wonder.

"She looks like you." Goku smiled down at Chichi.

Taken back, she stared wide eyed at her husband. "Me?"

"Yeah. She's got your eyes."

"Oh Goku…."

Blinking back tears, she leaned her head against his shoulder as he passed the cooing baby to the other new grandfather. Who also had tears streaming down his stubbled face. Silently, Gyumao thanked the gods he wasn't the only grown man in the room crying.

Getting a hold of himself, he took the chance to ask the big question. "So what did you name her?"

Sharing a smile with his wife, Gohan retrieved his daughter and gently handed her to his grandfather. The little bundle almost disappearing in his large arms.

"Well, to be honest we were a little stuck on a name so we decided to use a family name. If it was a girl, we would do my side and for a boy, her side. And Videl really liked your wife's name, so….we named her Pan."

His heart filled with overwhelming joy, Gyumao handed his great-granddaughter back so he could wipe his face. Knowing that his late wife would still be included in their lives brought him utter happiness. It made him even more grateful for the beautiful family he was given.

Feeling a pat on his hip, he looked down and found his Goten holding a towel."Ha ha. Here you go grandpa. It looks like you and mom are gonna be at this for a while."

Chuckling at the offering, he saw his son in law rub his daughters back as she cried into his chest. The weight of the moment finally causing her to break. But, from the way she clung to her husband, he knew those weren't tears of sadness or joy, but relief.

This little creature had brought light back into their lives. A new purpose that spoke of all the good things the future would in store for them. Today was definitely a miracle and he was truly blessed.
