Lucina watches a boy move in the near distance.
Though his hair looks jet-black in the lighting, she can see the way it glimmers slightly under the moonlight, a familiar blue tint racing through each strand. She swallows thickly, an aching in her chest. She has seen this boy before, many times— seen him smiling, seen him crying, seen him angry. She has seen this boy, dark-haired and swath in black and purple, murmuring strategy under his breath with such a furrowed brow that his forehead wrinkles.
"There's no mistaking him."
This is not that same boy, though they share the same features, the same curve of their noses and lips, the same child-like softness that doesn't belong on the battlefield. She knows this boy from elsewhere. This boy— This boy she has seen his face when it was round with baby fat, has seen his little fingers grasp for hers. This boy she can remember giving her daisies plucked from the castle grounds, can remember him giggling when... when—
She takes a deep breath.
"He led the Risen in the world fallen to Grima..."
Her eyes squeeze shut, memories like a flood. A woman's pale and gentle hands, wiping tears away from her eyes when she would awaken from a nightmare. Spider-silk white hair, pulled over a shoulder, a lullaby sung with a delicate voice. A little boy sneaking down the halls of a castle and into her bedroom, snuggling into her with a smile on his face, falling asleep with his tiny tiny hand around her index finger.
"Oh, hello, Lucina!" Someone snaps her out of it. The flutter of butterfly wings. Out of the corner of her eye, for just a brief moment, she sees morpho-blue. "What are you up to, hm?"
Her vision is instead filled with warm tones, yellows and greens and oranges, and she's surrounded by the fragrance of peonies. Like her namesake, Peony fills the air with a sweetness, her big violet eyes blinking. "Oh! Is that the Morgan who was just summoned recently?"
Lucina swallows, hands balling into fists. "He is our enemy..." She forces out. "He is an extension of Grima, who led Ylisse to ruin."
"What?!" Peony's dainty hands cover her mouth as she gasps. "So this Morgan is completely different than the Morgan who's always laughing and smiling?"
She looks to the distance again, to the figure moving further and further away. She looks to the back of her left hand and tries to bury her emotions deep deep down. Tries to forget the glimmering blue eyes of a cheerful little boy. Tries to forget the calmness of that woman's voice and warmth of her arms.
"Yes. Even though he looks much the same..." So much the same, so painfully painfully so. She tries to instead remember the boy clad in black and purples and violent viscous reds, leading an army of Risen straight into a village or city. Tries to remember him commanding mad Grimleal with his word and presence alone, convincing masses of scared and hopeless people that Grima is the only way. It helps, a little.
But not enough. "But not only that, the Grima to whom he's sworn loyalty has also been summoned here... If they are able to work together, something terrible could happen to Askr and the Order at large..."
Peony frowns, her wings aflutter with every anxious moment. "This is bad... I hope nothing happens with him."
Lucina closes her eyes.
She hopes so too.
notes ; very sexy of intsys to put lucina and m!morgan in the fated bonds event together after the lost lore used images of f!robin. continue to fuel my chrobin agenda! honestly, the future past world is something i am endlessly fascinated by— the events, how everyone lived, in particular how the morgans end up under grima in the DLC. honestly, this may not be a particularly interesting piece of writing, but it was something i wanted to write nonetheless. it was gonna itch around inside my brain until i got it out, and trying to write my other fic with chrobin brainworms is hard!
anyway. i hope you enjoyed reading this silly little fic.
