A/N: Hi, everyone! A quick thanks to AnonBrowser, lordgemini, IllusionSign and OmnipotentAbsoluteUI Godzilla for reviewing the last chapter of Total Cousins Action. Now let's move on to the sequel.
So last time we saw Toni, Chris was telling her that even though she's not allowed to compete on Total Drama again, the producers wanted more of her. Now, she's been told she has to co-host Total Drama World Tour with him! But of course…there's a little more to it than that. Remember that she's the same age as most of the contestants – younger, actually, although now she's sixteen and some of them aren't yet seventeen. So what does being co-host entail? What does it allow her to do and not do, and how will she handle it all?. So she may not be competing, and she may not be in for a million dollars, but she still has more than enough challenges to face!
Disclaimer: I own NOTHING except Toni, my girl. That goes for every chapter. Total Drama World Tour, here we come!
It was a cold February day, the day we started filming the third season of Total Drama. Even though I wasn't going to be a contestant, I still had to show up in my black jeans and my "People Are Strange" T-shirt, and that would stay my signature outfit. When I showed up earlier than everyone else but Chris and Chef, shivering inside a thick black cardigan, Chris just smirked at me, shaking his head.
"Save it for the times when you're not on camera, Toni," he said, laughing at my look of dismay. "We'll leave it in your living area. I suppose you can wear it when you're hosting in cold places, like my furry coat, but otherwise, you do what you did last time and rough it like the others."
"I do it, remember?" Chef added, who was dressed up as a pilot. "So toughen up, girlie!"
"Says the guy who loves his dresses." I muttered, shrugging the cardigan off. "I guess we'll be going to Scandanavia at some point? Or Antartica?" I hoped for the former. Finland was supposed to have a major goth culture, and it wasn't like I wouldn't be able to pull off goth grunge. If we had any time, I could even ask Gwen to help me shop. I knew she was on the season, and I wanted to get to know her better anyway, and I was sure she'd know about that stuff, considering how gothic she was (even though she wasn't as emo as I had expected most goths to be).
Chris laughed again. "My lips are sealed. You can wait like everyone else unless you're hosting. And you're only hosting every second location. When I'm in charge, you can do what you want, as long as you don't give the contestants too much help. Advice is fine for all of them, and you can nudge them if you think they really need it, but if you actively push a team into first place – or last, for that matter – you can kiss all your pay and this gig goodbye."
"Whatever, Chrissy." I shrugged. "I'm not planning on putting Duncan's team first just because I like him the most. Or Courtney's team last if she's on a different one. So when are they coming?"
Chris shrugged. "The bus had to pick up everyone from one location, but they'll notify me when it's ten minutes time for the cameras. And I have to introduce you before they come." He lowered his voice so Chef didn't hear. "And by the way, try not to screw up as much as those two Aftermath hosts, will you? I'm counting on getting a contract for ten seasons at least."
"As a matter of fact," I said, "I was at least good enough for the producers to tell Geoff to let me recap in the finale. The producers, not the other contestants. And if you remember, the finalists said they'd rather I host than you, anyway. How about we let the ratings talk before you claim another Gemmie? Who knows, maybe I'll get Best Reality Show Host this year."
Chris just smirked. "We'll see about that, but okay."
Chef went off to get the Total Drama Jumbo Jet started off as soon as we got the notification everyone was on their way. Meanwhile, Chris checked his reflection in his compact (yes, he carries one) and then even looked me over before the bus arrived. "I suppose you'll do," he muttered critically. "But could you at least comb your hair a few more times?"
"Like I don't comb it every day already, Chrissy," I pointed out. "Just don't steal my combs like you did when you were in that hippie movie and had long hair, and I'll let you complain about how tangled it gets. Just remember it's the McLean hair and you stole my combs for a reason."
Once the cameras were on, Chris turned his famous smile on. "Season Three of Total Drama, folks!" he announced. "The world is gonna be mine, sea to shining sea! Unfortunately, I have to share my world with not only a three-ring travelling teen freak show, but also a one-woman teen freak show who has just moved from contestant, to co-host. Huh, maybe she'll just prove how good of a host I am. Anyway, here she is – Toni, who, as you may remember, is also my little cousin!"
I stepped in, deliberately gave Chris a shove to try and get in central position (which didn't work) and then smiled at the camera. "I'm going to have a lot of fun co-hosting. And hey, as a teenager myself, I know exactly how to treat my fellow teens."
"But…" Chris added, "We'll wait until our second location for you to actually start your hosting duties. For now, let's meet our players."
The bus had drawn up as we spoke, and he introduced all the old contestants. There weren't too many differences from the Gemmies. I'd forgotten to mention that Heather had enough hair left to attach extensions, and she had enough for a short ponytail. Not much compared to her waist-length hair back in the first season, but enough.
I knew all the contestants, but we had a few who hadn't been on Action, so I didn't know them as well. Namely Noah, Cody, Tyler and Ezekiel. Bridgette was with us too, and she'd been eliminated early, but her boyfriend Geoff had missed out. Beth, Justin and Trent were also all absent, but Beth had already won a season and she was the only one I knew I'd miss.
I wasn't looking forward to having Courtney back, though. Maybe she'd stop stressing and leave me alone if I wasn't competing, though. I still considered Duncan a friend, but I wasn't planning on stealing him any time soon.
Finally, Chris announced our new competitors. Alejandro was first, and I saw a totally different side to him than the one at the Gemmies. Thing is, Izzy had jumped on Ezekiel, knocking him over, and then Tyler and Bridgette had just tripped over them.
Alejandro gracefully stepped over them, and with a smile, held out a hand to the two girls. "Perhaps I could assist?"
"Wow-ee…" Izzy murmured, staring at him.
"I – I – I have a boyfriend!" Bridgette stammered out.
Alejandro then offered a hand to the two guys. "And amigos, please, allow me."
"Wow, eh?" Ezekiel said as he stood.
"I like girls!" Tyler said firmly, and I had to try not to laugh as a non-partial host. However, maybe off-camera, I could try my luck. Even when I'd seen Alejandro at the Gemmies, I'd thought he was totally hot. He was even my type – tall, dark, chivalrous. Like Beth had said at the finale, dating anyone in the competition wasn't a great idea, but I wasn't even in the competition. If he rebuffed me, all cool, right?
Sierra was introduced next. I could tell she'd been instructed to act like she'd never met us before, because she burst out, practically screeching "Oh my gosh, I love you guys and this is the greatest day of my life and…" she started hyperventilating. "Anybody got a paper bag I can breathe into?"
That was all standard, but then she ran over to another competitor I was absolutely sure she hadn't been obsessing over last time. "Oh my gosh, Cody! I've dreamt of this moment, only you weren't wearing a shirt!"
I had no idea why she was so interested in a shirtless Cody. I'd seen him walking around the Aftermath studio accommodation in a towel after showers, but it wasn't much – no abs and no tan. Also, I knew Sierra couldn't have met Cody before the show if she was so excited now, so that was confusing. Did she see more of him than not facing his fear, hitting on Gwen at least five times and keeping her bra, and getting mauled by a bear? I didn't even know who he was until he started hitting on Gwen, even sniffing her hair at one point. Okay, he set her up with Trent. And she was still with him, but still, what had made him this attractive? Even he looked like he didn't know?
At that moment, the plane creaked into view, and I mean creaked. I wasn't at all shocked when Courtney raised a hand and said "Excuse me, I'd like to raise some concerns about the safety of our plane."
We couldn't do a thing about how unsafe it was, of course. Chris just said it was safe and told everyone to board.
However, we'd forgotten that Owen had a fear of flying. He started screaming "No, I can't ride in that! Call a cab! Call the United Nations! Call my mom! No, I'm not doing this! I'm out! This is unethical-" As he spoke, Chris handed me a frying pan and nodded at him.
I rolled my eyes, gave him a look to make it clear he was crazy, and specifically only hit Owen lightly in the shoulder to distract him instead of knocking him out. It worked enough for me to get him on the plane, while Chris finished the introductory announcement that would take place before the opening.
"We're saving you a First Class seat for all the action, on Total! Drama! World Tourrrr!" he sang the last two words.
And before the cameras could stop for even a second, Duncan spoke up. "Seriously?"
I smiled back at him, not sure the cameras would get this. "Yep. You guys all have to sing this season. Chrissy isn't supposed to be singing at all because of a certain thing in his past career, but he's the only one with that excuse."
And with that, I started herding the contestants towards the plane. Hey, they were here for a million dollars. I was here for a smaller sum but I was sure to get it, along with 'Reality TV Co-host' on my resume. I was going to last the whole season this time, and be sure that I contributed to its success.
Yeah, a slow introductory chapter, but at least you got a couple titbits about Chris and some idea on how the show is going to run. If you want to know why Chris isn't meant to sing, it's because of the boy band Fametown that Sierra mentioned. Contest Call winner Erin Tapley recorded an interview of Chris with actor Christian Potenza, and she asked him a question about that, to which he said he had a gag order (one he broke in Chinese Fake-Out). Luckily, even the not-so-good singers can get more time in this season since you can't hear them. There WILL be different eliminations. It won't be a repeat of Total Bubbly World Tour if you've read it, but I WILL be switching eliminations around seriously. If you'd like to make predictions, I'd love to hear some of them.
