I walked out of the Leaky Cauldron, on that beautiful spring afternoon and made my way down Diagon Alley towards my brother's shop. I hadn't been home much in the last few years because of Quidditch, and I wanted to visit Georgie. A new little cafe had opened not far from my destination, I looked inside the door to see if it was somewhere I might stop into before going home, that's when I spotted him. He was carrying two cups towards a table. At the table, the familiar figure of Luna Lovegood sat, watching him. My ex-boyfriend placed a cup in front of Luna, kissing her temple. Luna giggled bringing the cup up to her lips and blowing gently. Taking the seat across from Luna, Harry looked up and spotted me. He smiled softly and gave a small wave, I waved back then started again towards Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
When I opened the door to the shop, I was slightly amazed at how packed it was. People of all ages were looking around and collecting the items they wished to purchase. I nodded at Verity the girl who ran the front end, letting her know I was going in back to find George. I found my older brother hunched over a cauldron stirring the contents.
"When was anyone going to tell me that Harry was dating someone?" I asked. George looked up from the potion. "And when was someone going to mention it was Luna Lovegood?" I exclaimed.
"Ginny, we've tried telling you, but every time someone brings him up you clam up and forcefully change the subject," George replied. "Oh, and it's Potter now." He turned back to his potion-making.
"What's Potter?" I asked confused. He didn't answer right away. He waved his wand over the potion placing a stasis charm over it. Whatever he was about to tell me was big and going to need all of his attention. He walked over to me and directed me to sit down. He sat on the edge of his desk, taking a deep breath, he stated,
"Luna is Harry's wife," George said. "I'm taking it that you didn't get a good look at her either." I shook my head.
"No, I didn't. I could tell it was her, that was it." I said softly, taking in what George had already told me.
"Luna is also pregnant," George said. Looking over at the calendar. "They must have stopped to get something to drink after her appointment. They found out what their baby is today."
"How do you know all this?" I asked.
"Luna and Harry asked me to be the baby's godfather." He said softly, moving away. That didn't make any sort of sense. Ron was Harry's best friend.
"I don't understand," I stated. "When did they get married? We didn't break-up that long ago."
"Gin, you broke up with him almost 4 years ago." These words hit like a ton of bricks. "You haven't been around." Even though it was true it still hurt.
"Did everyone go to the wedding?" I asked. I was trying really hard not to cry. He nodded. He walked over to his bookshelf and brought over a small photo album. The tears started flowing.
"Everyone who was in the wedding party got one," he said. I opened the cover and inside were the most beautiful photos of Harry and Luna. there were a couple of who were participating in the wedding parties. Of course, Ron was Harry's best man, George, Neville and surprisingly Draco were his groomsmen. Harry took pictures with her parents because they were his adoptive family. Luna's party was Hermione as Maid of honor, Fleur, Lavender, and another girl I recognized from school but couldn't think of her name. Luna looked so pretty and so happy. Her father beamed down at her in the photo of just them. You could see how proud he was.
"When did this happen?" I asked.
"Almost a year and a half ago," George stated. "Mom asked if you were invited, they wanted to invite you, but they decided it might not be the best decision." I nodded.
"Fair." I took a moment to think when Verity came in the back looking for George.
"Harry and Luna are here." She said softly.
"Why don't you stay here, I can take care of them." He said kindly. I shook my head.
"No, it's alright. I need to get going." I said standing up and grabbing my bag. George walked me out, I passed Luna as I made my way to the door, I could see now that she was indeed pregnant, not that far along but noticeable.
When I was out the door, I took a deep breath, but it caught in my throat when I heard, "Hi, Ginny." His voice reached my ears and my heart stopped for a couple of beats. I turn to him, he stood right outside the door. He looked slightly older, but not in a bad way. Older as in mature. He had let his facial hair grow in some. I wanted to run my fingers through it.
"Hello, Harry," I said, swallowing the lump in my throat. "I hear congratulations are in order," I said, strangling the strap of my bag, rocking back and forth on my heels and toes. He blushed and nodded, bringing his hand up and placing it on the back of his neck. I could see his wedding band on his ring finger as he brought it up.
"Yea, thanks." He seemed so shy. "Listen, I'm sorry about not telling you about Luna and me," he stated.
"It's fine. I broke up with you. You had every right to move on and find someone new." I said a little more harshly than I meant for it to come out.
"Ginny, please don't be mad." I shook my head and he stopped talking.
"I'm not mad. I'm happy for you. I'm happy for you both." I sighed. "I just have one question." he shook his head.
"Why George?" He smirked that beautiful smirk of his and a chuckle slipped from his lips.
"Ron and I have a dangerous job, we work together a lot. I didn't want our child losing both of us or god forbid, Luna, Ron, and I. George was also a huge reason Luna and I got together." He shoved his hands into his pockets. I missed those hands. And my brain screamed as images of choking my brother flashed behind my eyes.
I could only be angry with myself. I was the one who ended our relationship. I was the one who said no when he asked for my hand in marriage. What I saw with Him and Luna could have been us, but I was too selfish.
"Harry, honestly, congrats," I said. I wanted to hug him one last time. I wanted one more moment in those arms, but it was too late.
"Thanks, and Ginny," he stated, "I hope you're happy with whatever it is you're doing. We are having a boy if you want to know." I nodded once, gave a soft smile, then turned away. I wouldn't survive if he witnessed me cry. I wanted to be happy for him. For him and Luna. I would say I hadn't had a date since I broke it off but I had and every single guy was in one way or another Harry. Before I completely walked away, I turned back around. He stood there looking my way.
"Harry, can you answer me one question?" I asked, and he nodded in response. "Did you try to wait for me?"
"Ginny, I tried waiting for you, but your mom even told me to move on." He said. My heart sank. How could I be so blind and so stupid. "I was so broken when you left."
"I'm so sorry." He nodded.
He walked into the shop after that, and I went about my life. Losing him was my own mistake. I can only blame myself for my unhappiness. He was smart to move forward because I am not ready for what he wanted and what he needs. Harry Potter was the greatest love of my life but I was a selfish little girl.
