Summary: The Super Soldier Serum undeniably had roots that connected it to demons. Super Soldiers weren't meant to exist, and Kagome, burying down her own personal feelings, resigns to accept that. She ends up being pulled from both sides of her heart when the man she's grown so fond of is framed for a bombing that was orchestrated by her vengeful uncle.

Pairing: Bucky/Kagome [+ other implied pairs.]

Disclaimer: I do not own either series. Each belongs to their rightful owners.

Note:
Flashbacks are written in bulk Italics.
Kagome is Zemo's niece in this.

Prologue

A soft, light melody echoed feebly across the shrine grounds. It came from one woman, long raven locks swept up in a lazy bun, as she sat beneath the large tree located on the property. A pleasant breeze carried her voice in every which direction it blew, sending it off like a trail to follow.

Kagome was focused on her task at hand of cleaning and maintaining the aged sword resting across her legs. Her expression was one of serenity, blue eyes softly shining with a faint glow from the bright sunlight outside the Goshinboku tree's shade.

The young woman, no older than twenty-one, was the only soul that lived there anymore, having taken up the mantle of tending to the building following the loss of the rest of her family. It'd been an accident, but that did nothing to soothe the ache it left behind. It'd been five years since it, and she'd gotten used to the silence that living here offered.

It was filled with the memories she held close to her heart, and that was enough to comfort her. Sitting underneath the Goshinboku tree, the tree that had watched over her since she was born, made her feel at ease.

An aura in the distance brushed against her senses, and Kagome halted for a moment. Her hands stilled as she briefly considered putting the sword that laid across her folded legs away for the time being. As soon as she recognized the aura, however, she decided against it.

She stayed were she was. She was visible to all who climb the steps, her traditional garb standing out, as well. Kagome glanced up briefly as the figure came to a halt at the top of the steps, recognizing his face easily.

He'd come visit her often, and, as such, she'd come to be quite familiar with him. When his gaze landed on her, she offered him a calm smile, and she saw him return it in his own way.

"Good afternoon, Bucky," she said once he'd gotten close enough. She finished cleaning her sword and returned it to its sheath before setting it beside her. Without missing a beat, she moved onto her next weapon; her wooden bow. She hummed softly and tilted her head to the side in concentration as she checked for any imperfections that might be present on it. "I was wondering when I might get the chance to see you again," she added.

She didn't move any as he sat across from her under the ancient tree. For the longest time, he'd been here at least once weekly. He liked the peaceful air that surrounded the shrine. He claimed it was comforting, and that it made him feel at ease. So, she'd been surprised when two weeks went by without a single trace of his aura nearby.

She picked her head up and met his blue eyes with her own, glimmering hue. He nodded and shrugged. "I wanted to thank you for all your help," he said, and Kagome craned her head to the side in confusion. "I probably won't be back to visit you in a while, so I'm here to say goodbye, too."

Realization sunk in, and she nodded slowly. "There's no need to thank me," she said after a brief pause on her end. "Helping people is second nature to me, no matter the problem. I'm glad that I was able to help you." A small smile returned to her face, and she looked back at him. "And… Thank you for coming to say goodbye. If you ever want to see me, you know where to find me."

She stood then, her weapons cradled safely in her arms. Kagome turned and walked the short distance over to the partially opened well house to put them away. Once she shut the door, she placed a protective, clear barrier to keep anyone from being able to open it. She turned and moved back to where he was sitting, and she paused beside him.

Bucky looked up at her, his eyes sliding closed when her hands gently fell to rest on the sides of his head, nimble fingers brushing back a few locks of hair as they did. She knelt some, pressing a feather-light kiss to the crown of his head.

It was soothing and took away any pain or pressure he might've felt. It felt like his mind was freed. It was always so comforting, and he felt the faint sting of tears forming just behind his closed eyes.

"Since this might be the last time we see each other, let me give you a parting gift," Kagome said softly as she reeled away from him. She rose back to her full height. Once she had, she reached into her haori and pulled out a necklace. It looked to be made of twine, but it was actually much more than that.

The twine it was fashioned out of was infused with a lock of her hair, and she had plenty of those strands of twine- all for different purposes. Hanging from the twine, tied so it was perfectly set in the middle of the necklace, was a little, diamond-shaped glass vial. Inside the vial was a pink-tinted liquid. It was water blessed with her aura.

Kagome handed it to him, watching with a small smile as he held it carefully in his right hand. "Keep that with you," she said softly. "It might not be the same as being here, but… it should help you nonetheless."

She saw his expression soften as he looked over the small trinket she'd given him, and she felt her smile grow a fraction when he carefully put it on. It wouldn't break so easily, but she appreciated the care he possessed for it. He treated it as if it was something precious, and she somewhat cherished that.

"Thank you," he said softly. "For everything, Kagome. I..-" He let his hand fall away from the pendant. "I really mean it."

She could sense he would leave soon, and she nodded at him as he stood up. Before he could turn, she offered him one last smile. "Well then," she said. "Until we meet again."

"Until we meet again," he responded, offering her a similar smile. "... Goodbye."

"Farewell," she said, waving as he turned to leave.

Once his aura faded at last, a small frown appeared on her face, and she turned away from where she stood to head back inside the shrine. She let the door close behind her, and she stifled a weak sigh.

No matter how fond she'd grown of the man that had just left, she couldn't help but feel shaken by his aura. There was something… off about it, and that was putting it lightly. If she didn't know better, she might've assumed some sort of demon lineage from him, but she could tell being face to face with him that it wasn't the case, not even by a longshot. He was human through and through- well, except for that robotic left arm of his, but that was beside the point.

He aura felt like nothing she'd ever encountered before. The first time she'd ever felt it, it set her on an uncomfortable edge instantly.

Singing songbirds chirped cheerfully from the branches of the Goshinboku tree as she went about her daily routine. She was in the process of cleaning up the shrine grounds when she felt something odd brush along her senses. She recognized that someone was coming up the steps, but something about them made her senses catch fire.

Kagome tightened her grip on the wooden handle of her broom, and slowly went back to sweeping. Her back faced the steps to the shrine, and she knew she would be spotted by whoever climbed them once they got high enough. She focused on the strange aura she felt even as she kept sweeping.

As it got closer, she found it difficult to place it as demon or human. There seemed to be a slight hint of demonic energy there, but the rest was human. It wasn't evenly split like Inuyasha's aura was. It was heavily diluted down. She knew from her own research that if a demon that was part human continued its bloodline with humans, then that demon blood would eventually fade out entirely as the human blood became more prevalent. It would be removed after a few generations, so half-demon lineages were practically undetectable in modern times.

A person with only a minuscule bit of demonic aura was, as far as she knew, entirely impossible. It wasn't natural.

The figure came to a halt upon reaching the top of the steps, and she felt a gaze land on her turned back. She gave into her curiosity and turned, and her eyes fell to land on a man with dark brown hair that reached his shoulders. Her blue eyes met a shade a bit darker than her own, and she knew instantly she was looking at a human.

As she'd grown stronger and harnessed more of her powers, she'd grown to be able to identify demons even if they bore a human disguise of any sort. Demons like Sesshoumaru, and demons that differed vastly from him- she could see through any of their illusions.

If he was human, then what was it about his aura? Where did that sliver of demon energy come from?

Kagome pulled a warm and gentle smile onto her expression, hiding her skepticism of him behind her natural, friendly façade. "Welcome to the Higurashi Shrine," she greeted him. "My name is Kagome!"

She noticed he was taken aback by her friendly energy, and he took a step or two forward before pausing. Kagome swallowed her unease and closed the distance between them, pausing a few feet away from him.

"What brings you here today?" she asked, holding the broom against her chest.

"I..-" He paused, and Kagome tilted her head to the side. "I overheard people talking about this place and how it can help people."

That moment faded to the back of her mind as she shook her head.

She had yet to figure it out, but she couldn't deny that it bothered her immensely. She had gotten used to his aura, but it still perplexed her.

The better part of a year went by, and she tried to forget about the strange aura. A part of her believed she might never come across it again, so she opted to try and clear it far from her mind. It still ate at her, however, and so she did something she often wouldn't bother with.

She asked for Sesshoumaru's opinion on it. He'd taken it upon himself to do some research that only a demon could manage so easily, and she awaited whatever information he found patiently. He'd been just as bothered by it that she'd been when she told him about it, and he confirmed what she already knew- that it was physically impossible in a natural occurrence.

"It's nonviable."

Kagome nodded at the stoic response to her prior inquiries. "I figured as much," she responded softly. "So how…?" She furrowed her brows, confusion eating away at her once again.

A set of lethal claws clinked against the elegant teacup he held as he set it back on its saucer. At the noise, Kagome looked up and met his molten stare.

"Such an occurrence cannot happen without some sort of outside interference," he said, his voice the normal cold drawl despite the heat in his stare.

"Outside interference?" she repeated, and he nodded. "You mean…-"

"Genetic experimentation of sorts," he proposed. "It's a nauseating idea, but I'm certain I've read of such intents in human history in the past," he spoke. "Such creatures shouldn't exist."

"It sounds awful…" Kagome trailed off. She was fond of Bucky, having grown to like him quite a bit during her days of knowing and seeing him, but if that really was the case then she couldn't deny it. It was awful to experiment in such a way. "Will you do some research about it?" she asked. "You said you've read this sort of stuff somewhere before, so you'd probably have the easiest time out of all of us digging it up."

Sesshoumaru nodded. "Very well," he said as he stood up. "I'm unsure of how long it will take, but once I've found what I need I will inform you."

Kagome offered him a tense smile. "Thank you…"

Kagome sat down at the kitchen table and sighed, resting her chin in her palm.

Everything seemed even more complicated than before, and she loathed it.

C.R: Okay, so TFATWS has made me love Zemo a lot more than I initially did (though I typically like the villains way more than heroes anyway.)

Chapters will get longer as the story progresses.

For the most part, the story takes place during CA: Civil War, but will have flashbacks. It'll likely continue after, as well.

Also super soldier serum connected to demons somehow? Yes~

Pairing is final, but there might be slight side shipping with Kagome before the main pairing is incorporated.

That's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
