A/N: I wanted to write a story in honor of May 12th aka Starco Day. Here is my take on what Star and Marco's anniversary would look like two years after they finally got together, and two years after the Cleaving. This story is unrelated to my main story, but I've kept Star and Marco aged up to be adults in this story. There's also a hint of spice at the end of this story, so just be aware.
I don't own Star vs. the Forces of Evil. They belong to Daron Nefcy and Disney. The song being performed in is story is Iris, originally performed by The Goo Goo Dolls. This version is the cover recorded by Diamante and Breaking Benjamin. Check it out on Youtube or your favorite music streaming app. Note: Star's part of the song is italics. Marco's part is in regular font. The part where they both sing is in Bold.
All other songs mentioned in this story are copyright their respective owners. Enjoy!
Marco Diaz pushed his shopping cart through the doors of the big box supermarket and into the hot California sun. It was a Saturday morning in May, and the heat was already beginning to become oppressive. As he pushed the cart into the store parking lot, Marco quickly scanned to see if there were any other people around. On this particular morning, the lot was half-empty and there wasn't a large crowd of people making their way in and out of the store. Feeling satisfied that he would be safe in doing so, Marco tilted his brown baseball cap-which he was glad he brought to shield his face from the sun-a few inches off his head, and then removed the red mask he was wearing to cover his face and stuck it in the pocket of his jeans.
Like many in his part of the country, Marco was becoming weary of all the restrictions, health orders, and lockdowns that had become commonplace over the last year. Though it was in his nature to be very safety conscious-and he was always willing to follow the rules-even Marco was getting tired of it all. It was bad enough that there were so many issues surrounding the cleaving of Earth and Mewni, the global pandemic then came along and exacerbated the situation further. Luckily, it hadn't affected the Mewmans and Monsters as much as the Human population. The monsters-as it turned out-were mostly immune to Earth diseases, while the Mewmans stayed with their own communities, and didn't venture outside of them very much. This meant they had avoided most of the problems of the outside world, although it made integration into that world even more difficult.
The silver lining that came out of all the difficult times was that Star and Marco's relationship had become stronger than ever. They had spent the last two years either living at Marco's house, or in the Monster Temple, finally deciding to take up permanent residence in the temple around the end of the previous year. Star had worked tirelessly alongside Marco, her mother, and Eclipsa, to integrate both Monsters and Mewmans into their new dimension. She even volunteered a couple of months ago to publicly get both doses of the vaccine to show her people that it was safe and to encourage them to do so as well. Her public gesture had the desired effect with some of the old kingdoms, the Spiderbites and Johansens among them, and these kingdoms had begun to open themselves up as their people became protected.
For their part, Marco and his parents had also received their first doses a month and a half ago, and the second doses a few weeks ago, although Marco still followed the guidelines and wore his mask anytime there was a chance of large crowds. That wasn't the case this morning in the parking lot either as Marco pushed his shopping cart towards his parent's car. His parents were back at home with Star, who had volunteered her and Marco to babysit while Angie and Raphael got a much-needed night out. They had then slept over once Marco's parents had come back, since it was quite late and Marco didn't want to disturb Nachos from her sleep. In the morning, Marco had offered to go shopping on behalf of his parents, and borrowed their car since a Dragoncycle was not particularly great for carrying groceries.
Upon approaching the older model hatchback, Marco unlocked and opened the back hatch and turned his back to pull the first bag of groceries out of the cart and place it in the back compartment.
"Need any help there, Diaz?"
Marco let out a yell, jumped in the air, and fell backwards all at once. He twisted his body around to get a better view of the back of his parent's vehicle. Even though he was on the ground, he could see that the back compartment was currently being occupied by Janna Ordonia.
"Janna!" he cried. "What the hell are you doing in the back of my parent's car?"
"Oh man!" Janna started laughing. "I wish you could have seen your face when you saw me just right now...it was priceless!"
Marco grumbled as he picked himself off the parking lot pavement. "Seriously? Is this a new prank you just came up with? Breaking into my parent's car to scare me?"
Janna rolled her eyes at her oldest Earth friend. "You mean you've already forgotten that you wanted to meet me today?" The Filipina crawled out of the back of the car and onto the parking lot pavement.
"I thought you were going to meet me outside of the coffee shop over by the electronics store!" Marco huffed as he pointed a finger towards a free-standing building on the edge of the parking lot next to another big box store. "You still haven't told me how you got into the back of my parent's car. You'll need to fix the locks as well if you broke them."
Janna rolled her eyes and pulled a medallion from under her t-shirt. Marco noticed two things right away. One, was that the medallion was from the Underworld and was adorned with the Lucitor family crest. The second was that Janna was wearing a pink t-shirt. In fact, Janna was also wearing pink running shoes along with a pair of silver leggings. A few years ago, this would have been completely bizarre behavior on her part, but being in a relationship with the Prince of the Underworld had brought out a more feminine side of Marco's longtime friend.
"This is how I can go back and forth from here to the Underworld when I want to see Tom." Janna held up the medallion to Marco's face. "I wanted to see if I could teleport into a small space. I can teleport into my room at my parent's house no problem. I even managed one time to teleport into the upstairs bathroom at my place. But since you told me that you were going shopping, I decided to try an experiment and teleport into the back of your parent's car...and apparently it worked."
Janna proceeded to grab a bag of groceries out of the cart and placed it in the back of the vehicle.
"You mean you wanted to scare the crap out of me…" Marco grumbled again as he grabbed another bag and placed it in the back of his parent's car.
"Hey...I still have a reputation to uphold…" Janna smirked as she passed Marco the last bag of groceries.
"Well...since you're here right now, I can give you a ride to my parent's if you want." Marco shut the hatch of the car. "Star is there right now along with my parent's and my sister."
"Cool." Janna nodded. Marco walked over to the driver's side door and unlocked the doors with his key. Janna walked around to the passenger side and climbed into the front seat. She pulled her seatbelt across her body, then turned her head to look at Marco. He was once again wearing the red mask over his mouth. Janna arched her eyebrow at her oldest Earth friend.
"Seriously, Diaz? You don't trust me that I did my part to uphold public health?"
"I'll be completely comfortable when we open up fully in about a month from now." Marco countered. "Until then, I'm just being as careful as possible."
Marco started the car and put it into drive and started guiding it through the parking lot towards the exit.
"So...anyway Janna, thanks for meeting me this morning." Marco broke the silence. "How are things in the Underworld right now?"
"Well…" Janna began. "It actually was good timing on your part that you wanted to meet up with me. Tom's kind of busy right now dealing with Underworld politics and when he found out you wanted to see me, he encouraged me to come up here."
"Underworld politics?" Marco inquired. "That's not really Tom's style."
"True." Janna nodded. "But there's been some problems lately with some of the young demon lords and Tom's dad told him he needed to help sort it out between them since he's around their age and they'll listen to him."
"Ok...I gotta hear this story."
"I'll try to summarize as best I can." Janna blew a breath out. "A couple of young demon lords decided to have a party up here on the surface. So, they rented out a club a couple of nights ago that wasn't being used because of the pandemic, and the owner wanted to make a few bucks since demons can't get sick like us. Well...it went about as well as you think it would. The two lords and their entourages had an incident between them...probably involving a girl, and also because demons get drunk pretty easily."
"Did they burn the club down?" Marco sighed knowingly. "I know some of these club owners need to get money in the door with how bad things have been, but you'd think they'd learn after the last couple incidents involving demons from the Underworld."
"Thankfully, no...but they did wreck the place and caused some damage in the parking lot when the fight spilled outside. Eventually they all went back to the Underworld but the club owner contacted Tom's parents and is threatening to sue if he doesn't get the damages covered. So, Tom is currently trying to smooth things over and convince the lords and their parents to pay up since they caused the damage."
"So, what does this have to do with him encouraging you to come up here?"
"Some of the demon lords, and especially their entitled kids don't always like me since I'm with Tom and will probably be telling them what to do in the future. They can get pretty insulting towards me at times. I don't really give a damn what they say, but it kinda...bothers Tom."
"I think I see where this is going…" Marco nodded.
"Don't get me wrong...it's sort of flattering how he stands up for me, but at the same time I don't want him flying into a rage and making things worse when he needs to be a bit more diplomatic. So, I'm giving him some space to deal with things, and it'll be better for both of us. That, and he knows that I could place some sort of horrible curse on these jerks at any time, but then it might cause a war in the Underworld. No one wants to deal with any of that...least of all not Tom."
"Wow, Janna. You've really grown to care about Tom in the last couple of years. A few years ago, you'd have totally stirred the pot and encouraged a bunch of drama, and then sat back and watched with a big grin on your face while he had to clean up the mess."
Janna turned her head like she was looking out the passenger side window, but it was really to hide the blush growing on her face.
"Moving on…" she quickly changed the subject. "Marco. I've known you since kindergarten. I know how to get to your parent's place. I could have easily teleported right in front of their door this morning. Why did you want to meet me somewhere else?"
"It's about me and Star." Marco responded after a brief silence. "I need your help…"
"Oookaaay?" Janna turned her head and looked at him incredulously. "Do I want to know what's wrong?"
"It's not anything like that…'' Marco quickly countered. "Our second anniversary is in a week and a half and I want to do something really special for Star."
"I'm not sure that I'm the person to be asking for relationship advice, Marco. Usually, Tom just asks me what I want to do and I tell him. At least that's how we've celebrated any milestones in our relationship."
"I understand, Janna. But I want to do something different than last year as well."
"What was wrong with last year?" Janna inquired. "You and Star had a party in your parent's backyard as soon as it was safe to have people over. You invited everyone you could and we all had a great time celebrating not only your anniversary but also the first anniversary of the cleaving."
"It was a lot of fun, and I was glad to see all of our friends especially after being locked down." Marco acknowledged. "But we never really got a chance to do anything together, just the two of us. I want to celebrate our second anniversary with something a little more...romantic."
"You mean spending all your time together the past two years wasn't romantic enough?" Janna deadpanned. "Being locked down for months meant you could only see Star the whole time."
"Yeah, but we haven't gone out to a restaurant for months. So, on the day of our anniversary I'm taking Star to that really nice Italian restaurant downtown. We're planning on dressing up and everything."
"That sounds like a good evening to me." Janna nodded. "So, what do you need me for then?"
"Well...I don't want to just go out to eat, especially if the restaurant can't be open too late. I'm looking for something we can do afterwards that's geared towards couples."
"You want me to point you in the direction of some places in Echo Creek that might be willing to look the other way if you're not quite old enough to be in their establishment…" Janna smirked knowingly.
Marco began blushing under his mask.
"Diaz...you wild man. I never knew Star would bring out this side of you. On the other hand, no, I'm completely not surprised that Star would make you want to break the law for her."
"I'm only doing this because she wants to have a night out after not being able to do...anything for so long. I know we're not old enough to be in certain places, and I don't want to get us into trouble, but I still want us to have some fun."
"Plus... you love her just as much as you did when you first met her…" Janna smirked again.
"Uh...I was in love with Jackie back when I first met Star. This wasn't exactly a well-kept secret either since she encouraged me to ask her out."
"In other words, you were both completely clueless." Janna retorted. "By the way, I'm never going to let either of you forget that for the rest of your lives."
Marco just sighed and stared ahead at the road in front of him as he couldn't find a comeback to Janna's assertion. Meanwhile, Janna stopped her needling of Marco so she could ponder on how to help her friends have a romantic evening together. Suddenly, an idea dawned on her.
"What day of the week is your anniversary on?" she asked Marco.
"It's on a Wednesday night. Not the worst night of the week, but not the best night either."
Janna was silent again as the wheels in her head turned.
"Marco…" she finally spoke. "How does Star feel about singing?"
Both Star and Marco made their way arm in arm down the sidewalk of the Downtown area of Echo Creek on a warm May evening a week and a half later. Luckily for them the streets weren't that crowded since it was mid-week. If it were the weekend, they might have accidentally run into people while they were walking, due to the fact that neither of them was paying attention to where they were going. In fact, both Star and Marco were having a hard time keeping their eyes off the other.
In Marco's eyes, Star looked even more amazing than usual, which was saying something. She was dressed in a white A-line strapless summer dress that came down to her mid-thigh. The dress showed off her pale skin and toned body perfectly, and Marco kept wanting to touch the exposed skin of her shoulders and her arms as they looked so inviting to him. Her golden hair flowed down her back, and he wanted to run his fingers through it to experience the amazing softness which he loved so much. On her feet, Star wore a pair of white strappy sandal heels to give the whole ensemble an elegant touch.
Meanwhile, Star thought Marco looked as handsome as ever. He had matched her with a white dress shirt with no tie and the button undone at the top. On the bottom half of his body were a pair of tailored, fitted black dress pants along with a pair of black dress shoes which Marco had spent almost an hour polishing to look perfect. Star thought Marco looked perfect regardless of the time he spent on his shoes. His hair was even styled upwards in the front, which was a look she always liked on him. She was so happy to go out in public with him and show everyone that he was her boyfriend. He even took her to her favorite Italian restaurant, and they had a cozy booth in the back all to themselves. Now, they were on to the next part of the evening, although Marco hadn't told her exactly where they were going.
"Marco…" Star reluctantly took her eyes off him after they had been walking for quite some time. "Where exactly are we going now?"
Marco also reluctantly took his eyes off his girlfriend for a brief moment to make sure they were heading in the right direction and not wandering aimlessly.
"We're almost there, Star. Just a bit longer, ok?"
"Ok." she giggled and went back to staring at him. As far as she was concerned, she could walk around with him all night. Even though she was wearing heels, her feet didn't feel tired at all. They walked for a few minutes more until Marco suddenly stopped in front of the door of what looked like a nondescript building. Other than the street number, there wasn't any visible signage on the building to tell anyone what the place was. Marco pulled out his phone as if to double check something.
"This is the place." he announced after a few moments.
"Really?" Star inquired. "What's so special about this place?"
"Well...Janna told me about this place. You said you wanted a fun night out, right? According to Janna, as long as we have proper ID, we can enter this place and they'll show us a good time. She told me that she took care of everything, including the reservation."
Star was a bit taken aback that Marco had sought out Janna to plan their date. At the same time, she was appreciative of Marco going to the trouble of finding them a place that they could have a fun time at, even though they weren't quite old enough to enter most establishments. Nevertheless, when Marco pulled out his red mask and put it on his face, she pulled her light pink one out of her small silver purse hanging from her left shoulder, and put in on her face as well as they entered the building.
Upon entering, Star and Marco made their way up to a desk near the front door, which was being manned by a young hostess in a black cocktail dress.
"Hi." Marco began. "We've got a reservation for Marco Diaz." He pulled his driver's license out of his new Prussian blue wallet-which Star had gotten him for Christmas last year-and handed it to the hostess. Star also found her driver's license-which she never really used much other than for identification purposes-out of her purse. The hostess scanned their government issued identification, then handed them back to Marco and motioned for them to follow her.
The couple was led through an area mostly filled with empty tables towards a row of booths along the side wall of the club. The hostess motioned towards an empty booth and Star and Marco both sat down. She then disappeared without saying a word, leaving them slightly confused as to what they were supposed to do next. Their booth was next to a large open area resembling a dance floor, although it was empty too. Further away was a raised stage with a drum set and electric guitars with amplifiers set up on it, as if there was going to be a rock concert happening later. Directly across the dance floor from them was the bar. Behind the bar staff members were setting things up for the evening.
"Umm...Marco, what's supposed to be happening right now?" Star inquired.
"I...don't know." came her boyfriend's reply.
"Is Janna pulling some sort of prank on us?" Star arched her eyebrow at Marco. "Wasn't this her idea to have us come here? Didn't you say she set up the reservation for us?"
"Yeah. She insisted that she'd handle everything." Marco nodded. To be truthful, Marco was wondering what was going on as well. Janna had told him to show up at this exact location after their dinner had ended. But she never really filled him in on the exact details other than it involved a singing activity that was better than karaoke. She also guaranteed that him and Star would love it, and it was a perfect couple's activity. Knowing his longtime friend, he did trust her to have their best interests at heart, but at the same time this was Janna Ordonia. Was she pranking them? On their second anniversary no less?
"Hey guys!" a voice suddenly rang out. Standing next to their table was a blue fur covered monster wearing a black dress shirt and black dress pants.
"Gary!" Star lit up when she recognized the monster standing in front of her. "Wow! It's been so long since I've seen you!"
She turned to Marco." Do you remember Gary from the Monster Town, Marco?"
"I do." Marco began to realize who he was talking to. "You were one of the organizers of a Monster's Rights rally a couple of years ago and you needed our help when a group of Mewmans tried to crash the event and start trouble."
"You got it buddy!" Gary beamed at them. "We totally still owe you guys for helping us back then with keeping things peaceful. You both did a really great job of calming everyone down, you even got some of the Mewmans to change their views a little bit."
"Aw...thanks!" Star blushed. "We just wanted everyone to try to get along after the Cleaving."
"Do you work here?" Marco asked Gary.
"You bet." he replied. "I'm actually one of the bartenders here. Which reminds me, since you brought up the Cleaving. That was two years ago, but something else happened two years ago as well. Happy anniversary guys!"
Now it was time for both Marco and Star to blush.
"Anyway...welcome to our speakeasy club!" Gary continued. You probably noticed that this place didn't stand out on the street like a regular club. It's that way on purpose. We want to give our guests an experience of an intimate, private club where they can sit back and relax and have a few drinks."
Both Star and Marco nodded approvingly at Gary's description of the club.
"Now, as for you two...I've actually been instructed by a friend of yours to take care of you tonight and make sure you both have an awesome time. So...what do you guys want to start with for drinks? We've got a fully stocked bar with pretty much anything you can think of."
Gary motioned to the bar behind him. Both Star and Marco were suddenly lost for words. Neither of them were particularly fluent in ordering drinks in a bar...at least on Earth. On Mewni, they would just drink what was put in front of them when they dined with Star's parents. Marco would also drink at the Dragon's Spit when he went riding with Hekapoo and Talon, but he was sure this establishment didn't have the same selection as his old haunt.
"You know what...your friend told me that you guys might be a bit hesitant, so I'll get you something to get you started that I'm sure you'll like. Afterwards I'll tell you about our live band karaoke that we've got happening soon."
Gary turned to leave, but then mentioned over his shoulder. "Oh yeah...don't worry about not being quite legal age here. We're allowed to have underage people in here during the week...I'll make sure no one hassles you either way. Also, drinks are on the house for now…"
He winked and left them to go get their drinks. Star and Marco just stared at each other in shock.
"So...Janna…" Star finally said.
"I really shouldn't be surprised at this point…" Marco exhaled. "Either way, let's have some fun tonight."
"Star smiled. "As long as I'm with you, Marco, we'll always have an awesome time together."
About half an hour later, the band made their way onto the stage to begin the live band karaoke event. The concept was simple. It was just like karaoke, only better. The participants picked a song, and they would sing it with the band providing the music and backup. As Gary helpfully explained, the whole experience was designed to make the participants feel like rock stars.
Meanwhile, Star and Marco were enjoying their drinks that had been delivered to them. The first round was a pair of shots. Both of them commented that the shots tasted like cough syrup, but they went down smooth. The next round was a couple of simple rum-based drinks mixed with cola. During this time Star and Marco went and checked out the song selection on a board next to the stage. Most of the songs were pretty standard rock or pop songs, designed to appeal to a wide audience of wannabe singers. But, one song on the list stood out to them. It was a song that had just come out in the last year. In fact, it was a cover of a song that Marco's parents used to listen to many years ago. Both Star and Marco looked at each other. They didn't even need to say anything out loud, between them they knew that they needed to sing this song. Especially because it was a duet and it was the perfect song for both of them.
After returning to their table, and being greeted with what appeared to be a couple of Martinis, Star and Marco settled in to wait their turn before it was time for them to get on stage and sing. The first person to get on stage that evening, was a younger woman who was celebrating a birthday with a group of friends. The band announced her name and what she was singing as she stood ready on stage. Meanwhile, her friends who were with her that evening crowded in front of the stage to cheer her on. The song was a pop song that had been played frequently on the radio a few years ago. The band actually did a good job arranging the song for a rock band. The younger woman also did quite well singing the song. It actually sounded much better with a backing band than at an average karaoke bar.
When she had finished, the band called the next singer on stage. This time it was a young man who was attending the bar with his date for the evening. He chose to sing a popular hip-hop song that the band had arranged in their own style. Once again, it sounded better with a backing band than in a karaoke booth. The young man went all out with the song, and even though the performance was a bit over the top, the crowd loved every minute of it. It appeared that it also impressed his date, as she planted a long kiss on the young man after he finished on stage.
Finally, it was time for Star and Marco to go on stage. They made their way hand in hand across the dance floor and up the stairs onto the stage. The band had arranged for two microphones to be set up for both of them to sing into. There were also two music stands set up with the lyrics to the song written on a piece of paper, just in case anyone got lost during the song. Star and Marco took their respective microphones in hand, as one of the band members spoke over the PA.
"Hey everybody! It's time for our next singers! This is Star and Marco, and they're going to be playing a song that we just started playing not too long ago. This is actually the first time anyone has picked this song since we've been doing these gigs...so hopefully it'll turn out ok!"
When he said this, Star gave Marco a look of concern. But her anxiety was quickly pushed to the side as her boyfriend gave her a look of genuine love and reassurance. Star exhaled to calm her nerves as one of the guitar players began playing an acoustic guitar to start the song.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know, you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
The band transitioned into the bridge and guitar solo. Star took a moment to look over at Marco who gazed right back at her. This really was a perfect way to spend their anniversary. She was so glad that he asked Janna for advice. She was even happier that Janna had given such good advice. Star was feeling so good-and the drinks were definitely helping-that Marco had to get her back on track with a head nod as soon as the guitar solo was ending. A few more bars, and then the song would end with a flourish.
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
Thunderous applause broke out as they finished the song. Even the members of the band were giving the two of them a hand. In their eyes, they had done the song justice. Star and Marco bowed and then walked off the stage hand in hand, smiling the whole time. It was when they returned to their table that the smiles turned to shock. For they were receiving another round of applause, but this time from their friends who were all standing next to their booth.
They were all there. Janna was wearing a dark green cocktail dress while Tom wore a black stylish suit. Jackie and Chloe were there as well with Jackie wearing her trademark seafoam green in the form of an off the shoulder top with blue jeans and Chloe wearing a black tuxedo outfit. Even Ponyhead was dressed up and cheering them on.
"Yo! That was the best you two!" the princess of the Ponyhead kingdom exclaimed. "Star...girl... you sounded amazing on the mic!"
"Thanks Pony! But I couldn't have done it without my Marco here." Star looked lovingly at her boyfriend.
"He was alright, I guess…" Ponyhead deadpanned.
"Nah...I'm just kidding, Marco. You were pretty good as well." she added with a knowing wink. "Kelly definitely liked your parts of the song...right Kelly?"
"Kelly?" Star and Marco both said at the same time. Ponyhead just grinned and moved to the side to reveal a shorter girl with long aqua marine colored hair, glasses, and wearing a sky-blue summer dress. Kelly waved to Star and Marco timidly, as if she was unsure what to do in that moment. Which made sense...since Kelly had not seen either of them in two years.
"KELLY!" Star screamed as loud as she could. She practically jumped on the Woollett and embraced her with all her might.
"But...how...the portals...no magic...how did Kelly get here?!" Marco was flabbergasted.
"Oh yeah." Ponyhead interjected nonchalantly. "Kelly's people were kind of dependent on the dimensional portals working...so when you two blew up magic it sort of messed up their world a bit. But...they were able to invent technology that allowed them to open portals to other dimensions again. It took them like a year and a half, but they finally perfected their system and Kelly was one of their first volunteers to go travelling."
"I've been able to travel to a number of different dimensions in the last little while." Kelly added while squirming to not get crushed by Star's bear hug. "But I always wanted to come back to Earth and see you guys. I contacted Ponyhead not long ago and she told me all about the Cleaving and your anniversary. It was a no brainer after that."
"Wait." Marco interjected. "Does this mean that we can visit Kelly in her world? Or visit other dimensions?
"Well..." Ponyhead looked around nervously. "I'm totally not supposed to tell anyone this, but Seahorse and Reflectacorp have been working on a project to open dimensional portals as well. They've been testing a device that they swear works, except that the government doesn't want to give them approval just yet, because like it might not get you back home from whatever dimension you end up in. But...you never heard anything from me..."
"Whatever. I'm soooo happy right now…" Star had tears streaming down her face at the fact that one of her friends that she never thought she'd see again was now hugging her. At her and Marco's second anniversary no less.
"Ok! I like emotional sappy things as much as the next girl...and this reunion is like, super sweet and all. But now...it's like, time to party again!" Ponyhead exclaimed. "Come on, Star! It's time to head to the bar and get our drink on!"
Ponyhead led the way with Star, Kelly, Jackie, and Chloe in tow.
"Great singing, Marco." Jackie called back. "We'll catch up in a minute, ok?"
"So…" Janna startled Marco by elbowing him. Did I do a good job, or what?"
"I'm...speechless." Marco breathed. "How did you manage to arrange all of this?"
"Like I told you before, Marco, I have connections."
"Dude, when she told me what you asked her to do, and then she told me the whole plan, I was super impressed as well." Tom added.
Marco leaned in as if he didn't want anyone to hear what he was about to say next.
"What about all our drinks this evening? We haven't had to pay for anything since we've been here! You know we're not legally able to drink until later this year, right? In Star's case, not until Christmas?"
"Oh, Marco…" Janna rolled her eyes. "I'm sure Gary told you that you're allowed to be here underage during the week. Plus, maybe you and Star have late birthdays...but the rest of us don't. All your friends are completely legal and able to buy you your beverages this evening. Especially this guy right here." She jerked her thumb at Tom
Tom began rubbing his fingers together. "Anything for my bro and his Starshine. After all...I kinda owe you one for the last two years as well." He glanced back at Janna lovingly.
"Speaking of which…" Janna turned her head just in time to see Gary approaching carrying a tray with two large drink glasses that both had sparklers sticking out of them. "It's time for your next round…"
Star and Marco climbed slowly up the last few steps near the top of the Monster Temple. It was well past midnight, and both of them had just gotten back home from their night out. They were both leaning on each other to make sure the other stayed upright. It had been a great party with all their friends in attendance. Although, both Star and Marco were feeling the effects of all the drinks that they had consumed. Luckily the rich Italian food they had for dinner had provided a good base to absorb the alcohol. But it still meant that both of them were pretty drunk, although they were also completely happy at how the evening had gone.
Nevertheless, they both did their best to quietly open the front door of the Monster Temple to get inside their current home. Star and Marco quietly padded across the main hall towards the stairs that led to Star's room. Star had finally pulled her heels off her feet, and was holding them in one hand, while holding Marco's hand with her other free hand. She was giggling drunkenly at something Marco had said that she thought was funny, when Marco stopped walking suddenly. Star was about to ask what was wrong, when she saw why he stopped. Standing near the stairs which led to her and Globgor's room, was Eclipsa in her nightgown with a knowing smile on her face.
"I take it you two had a wonderful time tonight?"
"We're...not too loud or anything right now?" Marco asked hesitantly.
"Not at all dear." Eclipsa assured him. "Meteora woke up crying so I was just getting her to go back to sleep. Then, I found that I needed a late-night snack. So, I borrowed some of that cereal that you both like. Don't worry...there's plenty for you to eat tomorrow morning...although I have a feeling you'll both be sleeping in."
"Yeah…" Star interjected. "Could you maybe not tell my mom that you saw us sneaking in really late and kinda drunk? I think we have to meet up with her and my dad tomorrow morning sometime."
"I believe that all of us standing here are to be meeting tomorrow morning." Eclipsa nodded. Don't worry, I'll figure out a way to cover for both of you if you can't make it."
She turned to go upstairs. "Now...run along and get to bed you two."
Before she disappeared up the stairs, Eclipsa stopped and turned back with a broad smile on her face.
"Silly me...I almost forgot. Happy anniversary."
Star and Marco finally made it up to Star's room a few minutes later. Star turned the handle and then both of them pushed on the heavy door and stumbled through the entrance giggling drunkenly. Marco made his way over to the bed to sit down, turning on the light on the nightstand to give some illumination to the room. Star, meanwhile, tossed her shoes and her purse on the couch in the corner facing Marco's TV. She then realized that her phone was in her purse, and pulled it out and began scrolling through it.
Marco sat on the bed and began taking his shoes and socks off. His room that Star had magically replicated was still in existence down the hallway. But there was no way he could sleep there anymore, even if he wanted to. Star wouldn't allow it. She needed him next to her while she slept, and it had been this way for almost the entire two years. As she put it, if he wasn't so close that their bodies were practically stuck together, he was too far away. Janna described them as being welded together.
Star finished scrolling through her phone, and set it down on a charging dock on the stand holding Marco's TV. She tapped a play button, and music began playing from the speakers attached to the charging dock. Marco looked up just in time to see Star move to the center of the room and start seductively dancing to the beat of Positions by Ariana Grande. Marco was transfixed by the way she moved her body to the rhythm of the song. But what was really causing him to get turned on was that she kept eye contact with him the whole time she was dancing. She was truly a beautiful young woman...the most beautiful he'd ever known, and he felt incredibly lucky to have had her fall into his life all those years ago. He felt even more lucky that they were now celebrating their two-year anniversary, especially considering the fact that they almost lost each other forever a couple of years ago.
He reluctantly had to take his eyes off her briefly, otherwise he'd never be able to unbutton his shirt. As Marco fumbled with his dress shirt, Star had managed to pull her strapless dress down so it was now pooled around her ankles. She stepped away from where the dress was on the floor and began slowly removing her undergarments. By the time Marco had removed his shirt, Star was already completely uncovered. He stood up from the bed and took in the beauty of his girlfriend standing in front of him with nothing to hide.
A wide grin came across Star's face, and she began running towards Marco. Marco quickly removed the belt from his pant loops and tossed it to the side before holding out his arms wide. He knew what was coming...and there was no use in resisting. Star jumped in the air, throwing herself towards Marco, and he in return caught her in mid-air and allowed their momentum to cause them to crash onto the bed. Marco wrapped his arms around Star's lithe frame as she planted a passionate kiss on his lips. It was the perfect ending to a perfect evening...one that wasn't about to end until they both had their fill of the passion and love that they both felt for each other. Because, with or without magic, they were together.
A/N: I'm going to have to stop here, otherwise I'd have to bump the rating up. I hope you enjoyed this story. I'll be getting back to work on my main story fairly soon. I haven't abandoned it or anything, I just wanted to take a side trip to pay tribute to Star and Marco. A year ago I started writing Star vs the Forces of Evil stories, and want to say again thank you to everyone for all your support.
