FRIENDS FROM THE START

When Jay Halstead first met Lilly Trager, he was twelve-years old and she was eight. He and the rest of his family-Dad, Mom, and Will-had gone to Charming to visit their cousin Tara. Getting bored as Will talked to some of the older kids, Jay had gone exploring. And then he had seen her: t-shirt, jeans, and wild, curly, brown hair that had entranced him even then, especially when they bounced along as she pedaled down the street on her bike. He jogged up to her.

"Hey," he called, causing her to glance at him.

"Can I help you?" she queried, her voice wary, indicating that she didn't quite trust him.

"I'm Jay," he introduced himself. "I'm Tara's cousin," he explained and she nodded. Okay, so not someone to be afraid of, she thought to herself. She hadn't known who he was, which was why she had been suspicious of him.

"I'm Lilly," she responded.

"Nice to meet you," he told her.

"Bet I can beat down the street!" Lilly shouted and then began pedaling furiously. Jay laughed and chased after her. This kid was crazy, but that was okay. You kinda had to be crazy to survive in this town. And something told him that this was going to be the beginning of a great friendship.

FIRST LOVE

Lilly Trager first fell for Jay when she was twelve-years old. They had been friends for four years by then and to say that they were close was an understatement. But that wasn't what had led to the love. No that happened when she saw him in a fight. He was kind of scrawny for a sixteen-year-old but damn, he could throw a punch. She pedaled to the side of the road and watched as the older boy's punches hit their target. Wonder what caused it, she thought to herself, her eyes locked on the scene in front of her. After all, the older boy wasn't like her father and their friends, throwing down at the slightest provocation. No, he was usually pretty chill. But now, Jay was punching and kicking, the punches tight and controlled, almost like he had been taught. Which he probably had been. Damn, he's beautiful, she thought to herself as she ogled him. He fought like a fucking work of art. Her eyes then flickered as two members of the Sons Of Anarchy converged on the fighters and one of them pulled Jay away.

"That's enough," one of the members snapped. "Jay, what the hell happened?"

"Nothin'."

"Jay."

"Guy said that Tara was good for nothin' but cheap pussy. I politely disagreed." At this, the men let out scoffing snorts. 'Politely disagreed'. Right.

As the men led the teen away, Lilly couldn't help the grin that came over her lips. Jay was something else and she could honestly say, she had fallen in love. But she knew that it could never happen. He was too old for her. Still…the heart wanted what it wanted and she wanted Jay. With a sigh, she started pedaling and went home. Maybe someday….
