NOTE: Set pre Ranboo moving in with Tubbo, with some liberties taken
"Nikki! Hi!" Ranboo chirped, pulling his hands out of the tilled earth at seeing the Merling female lazily swimming past.
"Ranboo, hello!" Nikki replied, flipping around and poking her head above the water. "I was looking for you!" She pulled her seaweed pouch up and grabbed the golden comb out. "I finally finished carving out the comb you asked me to make. What do you think?" She asked, holding it up for the young Enderian to inspect.
Ranboo's signature wide grin that seemed to split his face in two crinkled the corners of his mismatched eyes. "Awesome as always! If you ever need more materials, I'm happy to work on getting you some!"
"Thank you Ranboo." Nikki replied.
She passed the comb to the young Enderian, and ducked under the water to get a few fresh breaths through her gills. When she popped her head back up, she saw Ranboo trying and failing to comb out one of the snarls of his hair.
"Want some help?" She giggled.
"Please?" Ranboo asked, trying to extract the comb from his hair.
Nikki giggled as she pulled herself out of the water and onto the sandy shore between Ranboo's farmland and the river. Ranboo sat with his legs folded and back to Nikki as she worked through the snarls in his hair with the comb. It was slow going since she had to dunk her head and shoulders under the water to catch her breath every two minutes.
She managed to get most of the snarls out before the rain threatening clouds overhead began their light drizzle.
Ranboo was able to tolerate the drizzle, but when the fatter drops began to fall on his head, he let out a small whimper of pain as the liquid sizzled on his otherworldly skin.
Nikki passed him the comb and with a Vwoop, Ranboo teleported the handful of meters to his covered porch.
Nikki stood and stretched, letting the blessed wet flow down her face and across her gills. She walked down the shore toward where Ranboo was dabbing Aloe to the faintly purple splotches where the rain hit him.
The Merling woman perched herself on the low log just outside of the edge of Ranboo's roof overhang. "Been having fun?" She asked.
Ranboo glanced up and nodded happily. "Yeah. It's been so amazing here, away from the city. I'm glad Wilber and Tommy asked me to come."
Nikki nodded in agreement. "As am I. The Merling city day to day was getting too repetitive, and I needed a break to really stretch my creativity again." She smiled fondly. "Oh!" She sat up, "Did you finish the thing that you were working on?"
Ranboo nodded, "Yeah, I did. Could you call Tommy?"
Nikki held up the magical shell that was already in her hand. "Already calling."
"Hello?" A young voice emanated from the shell in Nikki's hand. "Nikki? What's up?"
"Tommy! Can you come down to Ranboo's Cottage? We have something to give you."
"Yeah sure. I'll be down in about five minutes?"
Ranboo got up and headed into his cottage, and Nikki heard the sound of a chest opening then a hard material scrapping against wood.
He came out, a long, straight bundle of cloth a little longer than Nikki was tall held a bit awkwardly in their arms. He dropped it on the table on his porch and began unwrapping it.
As the young male Avian glided down toward the pair, grumbling about wet feathers, Ranboo and Nikki were inspecting the light blue pronged and cyan handled trident. Most of the gems inland into the handle glowed with a magical light, as did the carefully and precisely carved runes.
"Hi, Nikki, Ranboo. What's up?" Tommy asked, ducking under Ranboo's porch roof. He fluffed his wings, expelling the rain water from them, before flicking them back behind him as he inspected the object that Ranboo and Nikki were looking over.
"Well," Ranboo started. "Nikki and I were working on something for you." He indicated toward the trident on the table. "Nikki hunted for it, and passed it along to me to get it enchanted and repaired."
Tommy blinked, dumbfounded. "Really? This is for me?"
Ranboo nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah. You just need to bind it to you, and you should be good to go." His cheerful grin stretched his cheeks.
Tommy looked down at the weapon, and cocked his head, trying to figure out how to bind it.
"Ah." Ranboo started. "You just need to put your hand over the big clear gem here," he pointed to the biggest gem that was nestled right at the point between the prongs and the handle. "And touch it. It shouldn't hurt or anything."
Tommy reached out and hovered his palm over the gem, feeling nothing he lowered his hand until his palm completely covered the gem. "Auggh! Ow ow ow!" He yelped, making Ranboo and Nikki jump and Ranboo to reach for Tommy's hand in panic. "I'm kidding." Tommy said as Ranboo's large hand just began to grab Tommy's wrist.
"Tommy, don't do that all the time." Nikki scolded, lightly swatting the young Avian's shoulder.
Tommy grinned at the two, and pulled his hand away from the gem. The once clear gem was now a golden color, the same shade as his hair. He felt a connection to the weapon, and he grinned as he reached out and grasped the weapon firmly.
He lifted it up with ease, nodding happily. He rested the butt of it against Ranboo's porch floor and stood tall. The highest prong was a few inches shy of his height, but it felt perfect in his hand.
"Okay. I enchanted it with Unbreaking, Mending and Impaling. It'll do a ton of damage and it'll take a while to break and you can drop by the skelly grinder to repair it whenever. I...um also put something special on." Ranboo rubbed his palms nervously. "I remember you getting really frustrated that you couldn't go as high as Philza, so I worked really hard to get the right enchants on the trident."
Tommy cocked his head and scanned the runes and gems trailing down the hilt.
"It took me a few tries, but I was able to get Riptide enchanted at its highest level." The Enderian male said.
At the word Riptide, Tommy's eyes went wide, and his mouth dropped open.
"It'll only work if it's raining or when you're in water, but it's better than nothing?"
Tommy's grin and subsequent hug grab startled the young Enderian. He let go of him quickly and grabbed the smiling and much wetter Nikki just as tight. "I love it. Thank you so much, you guys!"
"We are glad to have made you something that you will treasure, Tommy." Nikki replied, patting the young man's back.
"Hey guys!" A young voice chirped, interrupting the trio's warm moment.
"Tubbo!" Tommy cried out. He held up the trident, "Look what Nikki and Ranboo got me!"
Tubbo sidled up, and leaned forward, inspecting the weapon. "Oh, damn! That's really nice!"
"I know right?" Ranboo wiggled in joy, his long thin tail swishing back and forth with his happy movements.
