A Mother's Promise
It was early morning at the ARK and everyone was still sleeping, except for one. Elita and Optimus were asleep when their door slightly opened and tiny footsteps were heard as the door shut and the footsteps came over to the berth. Elita heard a little quiet huff and then felt tiny hands grabbing and pulling the blanket until the person made it on the berth.
The pink femme slightly opened her eyes to see Katie crawling over her to get between her and Optimus, hugging her wolf plushie. "Katie? What are you doing up, baby?" Elita whispered, opening the blanket for her daughter, who crawled in under the covers and scooted closer to her.
"I can't sleep, I had that dream again." Katie whispered, quietly whimpering.
"You did?" Elita asked and her daughter nodded.
"We were walking along a field and all of a sudden, I was alone," the little girl said. "I didn't see you or anyone."
"Oh, honey," the femme said, gently stroking her daughter's head.
The little girl started to tear up. "Mommy, I'm scared that you'll be gone...and...and...," Katie began whimpering.
Elita gently shushed her and pulled her close to her chest. "Shhh...there, there, baby. That'll never happened. Mommy's here...I'll never leave you," she said.
"Pr-Promise?" The honey-haired girl asked.
"I promise."
Optimus woke up after hearing Katie whimpering. "What's wrong?" He asked, rubbing Katie's back to help her settle down.
"She had that dream again," Elita said to her bondmate.
Optimus brought both daughter and wife close to him and kissed Katie's head. "It's going to be okay, sweetie. We're right here, we won't leave you," he promised as well.
Katie yawned tiredly as she felt her parents rocking her back to sleep. Comforted by the promises, she snuggled close to their chests and fell back to sleep.
When morning came, Katie felt Elita wrapping her arms around her and picking her up. "Good morning, baby." Elita cooed, holding her close and kissing her head.
"Morning, Mommy," she yawned tiredly.
"Feeling better?" Optimus asked.
"A little," the child said.
"Come on, breakfast is ready. Your favorite: pancakes with chocolate chips with a berry muffin and yogurt," Elita said with a smile.
"Yay!" Katie said excitedly as her mom and dad got up and took her to the rec room, finding a few of the others bots there already.
"Hey, Katie! Where were you? We came to wake you up but you weren't on your bed," Wheeljack asked as Jazz nodded.
"Katie came to our room last night. She woke up and couldn't go back to sleep, so she slept with us." Optimus said, rubbing Katie's head.
"Aww, poor sugar," Ironhide said sympathetically.
"You okay, Katie?" Trailbreaker asked the little girl.
She nodded, snuggling closer to her mother before her stomach growled and they all smiled. "Breakfast time," Arcee said.
Elita sat down between Chromia and Moonracer with Katie in her lap as Skyfire, Red Alert, and Prowl gave everyone their breakfast. Katie hummed cutely as both she and her mother enjoyed their breakfast while snuggling close.
"Elita, you have the cutest daughter ever," Moonracer said.
"Thank you," she said.
"So, Mothers Day is coming soon. You ladies going to spend time with Kate?" Jazz asked the three femmes. They nodded.
"Optimus, I'm going to take Katie out for a drive today to help her feel better," Elita said.
Optimus nodded. "I want you to be careful. I want my two loves to be safe," he said.
The rose-colored femme giggled and reached over to kiss him on his cheek. "We will, Handsome," she said.
They were soon out on the road and Elita was smiling as she watched her daughter resting on the passenger seat, but when she looked back to the road, she saw a car speeding and was heading towards her. Gasping in alarm, she slammed her breaks as the car did the same, but it was too late.
Both cars collided and Elita flipped up in the air and the car fell on a ditch. Katie screamed when her and her mother got hit and they were flipped over. She felt her mother transform and wrap her in her arms as they hit the ground and rolled into some trees, the pink femme hitting the trees hard enough that they fell on top of the two. Elita held Katie protectively as she panted rapidly as she felt some injuries all over her body. She tried to look to see if Katie was okay, but her arms were pinned all she could see was her daughter's head and felt her breathing, but she was unconscious. Whimpering in pain, the femme sent a distress signal to the ARK, hoping help would arrive fast.
Optimus was working on stacking some supplies with the Protectobots, Ironhide, and Ultra Magnus when he felt a sharp pain from his bond with Elita and Katie and yelled in pain as he dropped the supplies. "Optimus?!" Ultra Magnus asked in alarm as he quickly caught him from falling back.
"First Aid!" Ironhide called as both he and Magnus helped Optimus to sit down on the floor. First Aid quickly rushed over and scanned him, but as he was checking him over, the healer felt a sharp pain through Katie's bond, making him cry out and held his chest. The other Protectobots felt the same pain too as they grunted and gasped in pain. "What in Primus' name is going on?!" Ironhide asked in alarm.
"K-Katie! Sh-She's hurt!" First Aid said, tears coming to his eyes.
Optimus noticed that his locket fell and it opened to see a crack over both Katie and Elita. "Elita...Katie...they're hurt," he said.
Just then Teletraan One's alarm went off.
"ALERT! ALERT! ELITA ONE AND KATIE WERE IN A CAR CRASH! IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!" The computer shouted.
The Autobots gasped and Optimus sprang up and transformed as he sped out of the ARK. "Come on! We've got to help them!" Blades shouted as the Protectobots, Ironhide, and Ultra Magnus ran out of the ARK and saw Red Alert, Inferno, Grapple, Hoist, Ratchet, Moonracer, Chromia, Firestar, Trailbreaker, and Skyfire running out too.
"Everyone get in!" Skyfire called out as he transformed and everybody climbed in and quickly flew off after Optimus. They arrived at the crash site and Optimus quickly transformed to see a car that was damaged and on fire while on the other side of the road were fallen trees. He then noticed a familiar pink servo sticking out of the pile of trees.
"ARIEL! KATIE!" He cried out as he ran towards them.
"Inferno! Red Alert! Firestar! Trailbreaker! Put out that fire! Everyone else, help Optimus get Elita and Katie out of there!" Ultra Magnus ordered.
Elita whimpered as she woke up to hear voices and opened her eyes in time to see the tree in front of her was being lifted and saw Optimus and Skyfire lifting it off her. "Elita!" Optimus cried and he got down and kissed her.
"K-Katie...m-my baby...pl-please...," Elita whimpered.
"Where is she?" He asked.
Elita looked down and he followed her line of sight to see Katie's head while the rest of her body was wrapped in Elita's arms, which were pinned against a tree branch. "Katie!" Optimus and Skyfire both cried out, fearing the child was gravely injured.
Everyone looked to see what happened and immediately started to try and lift the large branch off. "Hang on, Katie!" Hot Spot cried out, sending warmth through the bond, though he couldn't feel her responding to it.
Optimus reached over, desperate to get his daughter out, and lifted the tree off her. First Aid quickly rushed over and checked her pulse. "She's alive, but she's hurt and unconscious," The healer said.
After the fire was put out, Red Alert and the others quickly helped to get Elita and Katie out. Chromia started rubbing Elita's head to comfort her. "Just hang on a little longer, you're almost out." She whispered softly.
"M-My baby...m...my little baby...," Elita whimpered.
"She'll be okay...you're in good hands," Skyfire reassured her.
"We've got a problem: her legs are pinned by the largest tree, and we can't use Defensor cause it'll be too risky," Wheeljack said.
"How do we help her then?" Streetwise asked.
"There's got to be something," Groove said.
"It's going to take about all of us to lift it up enough to pull Elita out. It'll be painful, but it's the only way," Ratchet said.
First Aid stayed with Elita and Katie while Optimus and the others took position to lift the tree off them. Elita started screaming as she felt pain on her legs and started crying, making Optimus even more desperate to get it tree off. "Primus, please give me strength!" He said.
Suddenly, he started to feel stronger and lifted the tree even more, taking the Autobots by surprise. "Whoa! Where's Prime getting that strength from?" Trailbreaker asked in shock.
"That's a father's love for you," Firestar said. "Looks like he's got the tree up enough to grab Elita."
"Alright, everyone move in and hold that tree up while Prime gets Elita and Katie out," Ironhide said.
Nodding, they all did that as Ultra Magnus stood beside Optimus, ready to take his spot. "We'll take it from here!" He told him. "You get Elita and Katie."
Optimus nodded as he let go and quickly grabbed Elita by her waist. "I've got you," he said softly as he pulled her and Katie away from the tree, lifting Elita up bridal style and walking a distance from the crash site as the Autobots let the tree down and rushed towards them.
Ratchet and First Aid did some scans and grew worried. "They're badly injured, they'll need medical attention ASAP," the CMO said.
Skyfire quickly transformed. "Get them inside!" He said.
Katie stirred a little as she heard voices and felt hands around her and pulling away from her mother. She started whimpering as she tried to hold on and felt Elita do the same. "Shh...it's okay...we're here...we've got you both," she heard Hot Spot whispered softly, making the small child calm down at the familiar voice.
Elita whimpered as she watched Hot Spot taking Katie from her. "M-My baby...," she whimpered.
"Shhh...it's alright...Katie will be okay," Optimus whispered as he gently lifted her up and he and Hot Spot carried the two inside Skyfire and the rest of the Autobots quickly climbed in and the shuttle quickly took off back to the ARK.
It was a tense hour before Ratchet came over to the berth Elita was resting on as she recovered and he ran a hand over his face, looking a bit tired. "Katie's stable, but she's still unconscious," he said. "She got a few cuts that we treated and her knee was dislocated. We got it back in place, so she'll be alright."
Elita was devastated when she heard what Ratchet said about her daughter and she started bawling her eyes out as she cried. Optimus rushed forward and hugged her tightly as he softly shushed her and rubs her back.
"I-I'm a t-terrible mother! I-I couldn't protect her e-enough! IT'S ALL MY FAULT!" Elita yelled as she broke down.
Hot Spot came over and hugged her as he and his brothers don't blame the pink femme for what happened. She had done what they would have done in the situation, but the femme still felt horrible that Katie was hurt. First Aid picked Katie up and swaddled her in the blanket and walked back to Elita's berth, gently placing Katie in her arms so the mother could cuddle the honey-haired girl.
Elita held onto her daughter, still crying before her systems shut down and she fell sound asleep. The others watched over her for a bit before heading out, save for Optimus, who stayed beside his wife and daughter to watch over them.
Elita opened her eyes and was surprised to find herself surrounded by a glowing bluish white area as she was on her knees, crying into her servos. "Ariel," she heard a familiar voice say softly, but noted that it wasn't Optimus. She looked up to see Alpha Trion kneeling down in front of her and he brought her into his arms, hugging her reassuringly.
"Father?" She whispered softly, remembering the mech that had saved her long ago and made her into who she was in the present. She suddenly clung to him. "Father, I...I'm a terrible mother to Katie," she said as she began sobbing again. "She...She's hurt."
"Oh, my daughter," he said soothingly. "You're a very good mother to Katie. I've been watching you both."
The femme was still saddened. "But...I couldn't protect her," she said.
Alpha Trion gently wiped away her tears. "But you did," he said. "If you hadn't held onto Katie, she might have gotten worse injuries than she did. You saved her life and in doing so, saved her from worse injuries."
She sniffled, still looking down before feeling him gently tilt her head back with a gentle hand and she saw him smiling. "Someone is here to see you," he said gently. "Someone who is close to Katie and has been watching over you two and she wants to meet you."
"Who?" The femme asked.
"Elita One," she heard a female voice and turned to see a woman who almost resembled as Katie. "I'm so happy to finally meet you at last," the woman said.
Realization dawned on the femme and she stood up and went over to the woman. "Are you...?" She started to ask, but trailed off.
The woman giggled and nodded. "I'm Katie's biological mother," she said, a smile on her face.
Elita felt more tears spring up to her eyes. "I...I'm sorry," she said. "I...I didn't do more to keep Katie safe."
"But you did," the human woman said softly, still smiling. "As Alpha Trion said, you saved her from worse injury."
It was quiet for a moment and the woman placed a hand on Elita's shoulder. "Thank you, Elita, for not only keeping Katie safe, but finding room in your spark for her," she said. "You are a great mother and I'm so happy my little girl has another mother figure in her life, one she can look up to and one that does everything a good mother does for her daughter."
Elita lifted her head. "You...You really think so?" She asked.
"I know so," the woman said. "Here, I want you to have this."
She gave Elita a split heart charm, one half saying 'Mother' with a pink gemstone and the other half saying 'Daughter' with a blue gemstone. "Promise me, Elita, that you'll never think of yourself as a bad mother again, because you are a wonderful mother. Katie is very lucky to have you and your mate in her lives."
Elita smiled as tears fell from her eyes as she and Katie's mother hugged each other. The pink femme turned to see Alpha Trion holding a sleeping Katie in his arms and he passed her daughter to her. Elita hugged her tightly and kissed her head gently. When she turned back to Katie's mother, she was smiling and hugged her and Katie one more time before she started to glow and float up in the air gently. "Good luck, Elita!" Katie's mother called out. "Take good care of our daughter for me!"
"Thank you! I will! I promise!" Elita called out as the two let go of each other's hands and Katie's mother disappeared into the light. The light felt warm, making Elita tired and she felt Alpha Trion holding her and Katie close as she fell asleep once more.
Alpha Trion smiled. "The real world awaits, my daughter and granddaughter," he said gently. "Awaken now."
Hearing that gentle command, Elita woke up to see Katie in her arms and heard her hum as she woke up, the tiny honey haired girl slowly opening her eyes. "M-Mommy?" She asked.
"Shh...I'm here, baby...Mommy's here," Elita said as she happily hugged her close and kisses her head.
Optimus woke up from his sleep and saw both his wife and daughter awake. "Elita! Katie!" He said happily, hugging the two and kissing them over and over. The Autobots that were around them woke up and they were very happy and excited to see Katie was awake and Elita was alright and joined in the hug too.
Ratchet cleared the two and later on, Katie gave the femmes in her life a special gift. She had made them necklaces with heart charms and each charm was the same color as each femme's paint jobs. Arcee and Firestar hugged the little girl, saying they couldn't ask for a better sister while Chromia and Moonracer were both equally proud to have Katie in their lives and Elita had tears in her eyes as she accepted her gift and then gave Katie the half of the heart charm that said 'Daughter' on it. The little girl recognized it and smiled, to which Elita nodded.
"Your biological mother gave this to me," she said. "You're like her in many ways and she's happy that you have us in your life too."
The child smiled. "I love you, Mommy," she said happily, hugging her and resting her head on her mother's shoulder.
"I love you too, my baby girl," Elita cooed softly, kissing her head and hugging her close.
