A Dragon and a Demi-Human.

Chapter 1.

The two cubs meet.

"Dad come on! Let's train some more!" A child with spiky pink hair said while pulling at the giant red dragon`s ear. The dragon known as Igneel was the king of fire dragons and apparently the father of a human child that was trying to pull his ear off with all of his might.

"Mhmm... Let me rest for a little bit brat! I`m not as young as I used to be." Igneel said to the child with his eyes closed. Looking unaffected by the child's pulling.

"But Dad! I`m bored!" The young boy whined to the mighty dragon who only chuckled in response. He shook his giant head a little to get his son off his ear, earning a surprised yelp from the kid before catching him in his hand. He set the boy gently on the ground before using his pinky fingers to poke his sides earning laughter from the boy.

"HAHAHAHA! Stop it dad that tickles. Hahahaha!" A warm smile spread across the fire king's lips as he looked down at his son's happy expression with fatherly love. However, his eyes begun to feel heavy again as he let a yawn escape his lips.

"Natsu. Why don`t you go explore the forest some more? Let your old man get some shut eyes." Igneel suggested to Natsu who pouted cutely at him.

"But I already explored the whole forest dad. There`s nothing interesting out there." Natsu told Igneel who only chuckled again.

"Well, maybe you`ll find something different this time around. You`ll never know until you try." Igneel said while closing his eyes and preparing to go to the dreamland. However, he was still feeling Natsu`s eyes on him, as if just looking at him will make him do as he wishes.

After about seven minutes of Natsu just looking at Igneel, he got bored again and decided to do as his father said. Turning around he begins to walk in an unknown direction leaving his father to his rest.

"Why does he have to sleep in the middle of a day? Do outside people sleep in this time as well? Or is it just a dragon thing?" Natsu asked those questions to no one but himself as he kept on walking. He eventually made it to the flower-filled clearing where a scent of flowers filled his nose, seemingly making him forget about his previous questions.

He decided to lay down on the soft grass in the clearing, letting his nose take in the sweet aromas of flowers around him. He wasn`t particularly a fan of them since they used to make him sneeze when he would get near them. But thanks to his magic, they no longer cause that problem for he just burns the pollen away.

A smile spread across his lips as a warm sun was touching his face, making him feel warmer than he already was. He let loose a relaxed sigh from his lips and put his hands behind his head. Taking in the full enjoyment.

"This feels nice... Maybe this is why Igneel likes to take naps in this time." The young dragon slayer thought as he felt sleep slowly taking him over. He felt so comfortable that his eyes started to close on him. When they fully shot he was on a halfway trip to dreamland.

Tweak!

The sound of something cracking made him open his eyes and seat up. He blinked a few times and rubbed to remove the sleepiness he was feeling before looking around him.

He didn`t see anything on his left, right, or back. And in front of him was empty as well, so what made that sound?

Just then as a butterfly came flying from where the clearing turned to the forest again in front of him. It was a normal yellow butterfly who was mindlessly flying around, minding his own business. However... Natsu was surprised to see someone behind it.

He couldn`t make it out what it was, for it was covered in shadows. However, he could tell from their body position that they were on all fours. Crouched down like when a wild animal prepares to pounce on its prey. He saw something shine through the shadows with his enchanted vision and found out a pair of brown orbs zoned in on the flying insect.

Slowly the insect came to stop on the ground, taking a little break from his flying. It was then that his stalker decided to attack. Leaping forward with its hands outstretched the predator was almost upon his prey.

Only for it to fly away when it was about to land on it. Making the figure tumble forward from its missed pounce and roll a little bit before stopping in the clearing.

"Ouch!" Natsu heard the figure say and inspected the new arrival look. Now in the light of day, he saw that the figure had red hair that went down almost to its shoulder. It wore a black shirt with matching black shorts and brown shoes. However, the most noticeable parts of the figure came in a form of red cat ears and tail.

As Natsu`s eyes widen at seeing those two. For he never saw anything like them on another person like him. He remembers Igneel telling about how every human looks like him, which was after convicing him that he wasn`t a dragon which he stubornly kept insisting he was.

Anyways the person shook its head after recovering from thair little stumble and looked around curiously. Searching for the lost pray. It was only when it sniffed the air around her was when it finally turned around to face Natsu.

A pair of warm brown eyes meet his onyx ones as a face of a girl (at least Natsu assumed it was a girl.) who looked to be about a year older than him spotted him standing just a few feet away.

"Ugh... Hi!" He said simply with a small wave at the girl who blinked at him a few times before tilting her head curiously. Her tail swinging from side to side slowly as she looked him up and down. Slowly she got up from the ground this time standing on her two feet before waving back at him.

"Hello. Are you new to the orphanage?" She asked him to which Natsu gave her a confused look.

"Orphanage? What is that?" Natsu`s question made the catgirls tail stop swinging as she was now giving him a confused look.

"The place we are at right now." She said as he pointed to the ground to emphasize her point. Natsu looked around them and only saw trees around the clearing. Was this clearing called the orphanage?

"Uhmm... Is this clearing the orphanage or the way behind you?" He asked unsure of what this... Orphanage was.

The girl looked around herself and her eyes widen. Her ears dropped and her tail went limp as she just seemed to realize she was somewhere she wasn`t supposed to be. First, she was calm, before she finally didn`t panic.

"AAAAAAHHHHH! It happened again! I got so focused on that butterfly I didn`t notice it leading me away. AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!" Her sudden shout made Natsu cover his ears from how loud she sounded, her high pitch voice hurting his ears while she grabbed her head in panic.

"Ouch, my ears!" This made the girl stop her panic screaming and was about to apologize for his ears but then she noticed something on Natsu`s head. Or rather the lack of something on top of his head.

"Wait... You`re a human?" She asked in suprise.

"I was told so yeah," Natsu said as he uncovered his ears. Thankful that she stopped screaming.

"B-but... How can you understand me then? Demi-humans and humans can`t understand each other." The girl said with her eyes opened wide with curiosity and suprise. Her tail swinging lightly behind her.

"Demi-humans? What`s that?" Natsu asked answered the question with another question.

The girl blinked at this question. Mostly because she doesn`t really know how to explain it to him. The only thing her caretake said was that they were humans with some animal body parts and treats. And that humans don`t like them very much. "Demi-humans are... Like humans pretty much. We can do everything, humans can. The only difference between us is that we have our animal parts to be able to tell which of us is human and which one is demi-human."

"Ooohhh..." Natsu said as he looked at her ears and tail curiously. He didn`t know why but for some reason he got this small urge to touch them.

"More so it is said that humans and demi-humans can not communicate with each other because we speak something called the lost language," Erza said and then came closer to Natsu. Her curiosity showing in her eyes as she looked at him. "So how is it that you can understand me?"

Natsu only shugged his shoulders. "I have no idea. I`m just speaking with you the same way I speak with my dad."

Erza`s eyes widen again at hearing this new information. "You have parents?" She said while a feeling of envy and jealousy crept inside her core. However, those feelings quickly vanished with Natsu`s answer.

"Nope. Only got my dad. Well... He is not my actual dad. He just found me one day and decided to take me in. He told me that I had real parents once but they have been gone for a long time now."

The girl`s eyes then sadden for the boy. Feeling guilty about how she felt before. She came closer to him and decided to comfort him the same way, her caretaker comforts her.

She wrapped her hands around his waist and brought him close in an embrace. She heard his heart suddenly start beating faster with her enchanted hearing but paid it no mind as she continued hugging him. Tho she wondered why did he feel so warm.

Natsu on his part was confused. Don`t get him wrong, whatever she was doing felt really good but he didn`t know why she was doing it. He just told her a story his father told him. Was that a bad thing or something?

"I`m sorry..." She said in sadden voice which confused Natsu even more.

"Hey. Why are you apologizing for?"

"I know what it's like to not have any parents. I was abandoned by mine from what the caretaker told me. They never said a word as to why. They just left me at the orphanage and I...(sniff)... I wonder each day... (sniff) Why..."

The girl had tears going down her face. For her, each passing day in her village was a nightmare. She would get bullied because of her tail and ears by the boys, girls would steal her food from her when it was time to eat. And adults who are looking to adopt kids didn`t even look twice her way. And she didn`t understand why... Why were they so mean to her... Why is everyone so...

...

Warm... She felt strangely warm all of a sudden. Then she felt a pair of two surprisingly strong arms wrapped themselves around her body, holding her close to the boy she just meets. She blinked at the sudden warmth that was brought from being in the boy's arms, so much soo that she lifted her head up so that their faces were facing each other.

He gave her a heartwarming smile. "Hey don`t cry. Only babies cry. And you are no baby right?"

She blinked at the boy's childish and dumb sense of logic but let loose a sweet laugh which made Natsu smile widen. This boy was truly something else.

"Hahahaha. No, I guess I`m not. Hehehe." Her laughs tuned down as she realized they were still hugging and stepped away from the pink-haired boy before smiling at him.

"Thought so!" Natsu said before he suddenly remembered something. "Oh right! I never introduced myself did I? I am Natsu Dragneel. The son of the mighty fire dragon king Igneel."

The girl sweatdropped a little bit at his introduction but still held a happy smile. For she realized that this boy in front of her has just been talking to her for the past 15 or 20 minutes. He never once insulted her nor did he ever tried to pull on any of her animal parts. And most of all, he even comfort her when she was sad.

"Is this... What having a friend feels like?..." Her tail swung excitedly at that as a happy smile only widen.

"Nice to meet you Natsu. I`m Erza." She said as she outstretched her hand in a handshake. Thankfully Igneel thought Natsu the basics of greetings and meetings, so he definitely did not make a fool of himself when he shook Erza`s hand really really roughly.

"Nice to meet you to Erza." He said before letting the poor girl's arm go so that she could rub her shoulder that nearly got torn off by the pink-haired powerhouse.

"So Natsu. You know why I came to this place. Now, what are you doing around here?" Erza asked her potential first friend curiously. Her tail swinging excitedly behind her and her ears pointing to the sky.

"I came here to find something interesting to do since my dad wanted to sleep. But I haven`t found anything interesting yet." Natsu`s face morphed into a frown as he looked around for something interesting.

Erza seeing this made her tail slow down a little as she too wondered what they could do. She then remembered seeing some of the kids at the orphanage play this game between themselves. Where they would run after one another in an attempt to get the other person to chase after them.

"Hmm... What was that game called again? Tang?... No... Teg?... Mmm... TAG!" She snapped her fingers as both of her cat parts twitched in the realization of what the game was called.

"Natsu!" She got a curious "Huh?" from the dragon slayer. "I know what we can do for fun!"

"Really!? What Erza tell me!" He said excitedly. Wanting to get rid of the boredom he was feeling.

Erza at first shyly extended her index finger towards him and poked his arm once before saying. "Tag your it!"

Then she got on all fours and sprinted away from him. Natsu`s eyebrows rose as he blinked in confusion at what the cat demi-human did. Erza who noticed her new friend was not following her, walked back over to him and cocked her head to the side cutely.

"What`s the matter?" She asked innocently.

"How is you poking me fun?" Natsu asked back making Erza blink as well before her eyes widen in realization. He didn`t know how to play tag.

"No! No! No! I wasn`t poking you. It`s how you play the game. Once you're tagged, you chase after me who isn`t tagged. And then once you touch me you say tag your in. And then you run away while I try to tag you in again." She explained as Natsu`s eyes widen slightly in understanding.

"Oh! you mean like this?" He then touched Erza`s arm and said that she is in before running away from her.

"Yeah like that." She said with a smile but dropped it when she saw how far he was. "Hey! Get back here."

And so the two proceeded to play tag which involved a lot of diving, pouncing, and tricks in order to tag the other person in. Soon the two were laughing at how much fun they were having. All the while a pair of red eyes were looking at them. Said eyes belonged to Igneel who had woken up from his nap and decided to search for his son when he realized he was missing.

"Hmm… I did not expect him to meet another human so soon. And a demi-human at that." Igneel thought as he continued watching the two kids play. A smile came to his lips as the two kids have entered a tickling match. The sound of their laughter echoed around them.

He decided to let them have their fun until they tired themselves out. Happy that Natsu had found his first friend.

A/N: HEEEELLLLOOOOOOO! Fairy Tail... It`s been a while ha? How you all been? Yeah so finally back here. Now if you wondering what is this, well just a story that has been rolling in my mind ever since I found one fanfic with a similar concept. Basically, this is an AU fanfic where two species (humans and demi-humans). Hate each other. Think of it as the Humans and Faunus relationship from RWBY.

Now, where will this story take us? Even I don`t know yet. But it might be interesting to see.
