Wreck of the Day

Addison and Rose strike up an unlikely conversation.

"I hope you weren't offended when I told you there had been some… Heavy petting… Between your ex-husband and I..." Rose says awkwardly to Addison at the bar counter.

"It's okay," says Addison. "Sorry I called you an unlucky 'McRebound,' says Addison.

"Is that like a thing that you surgeons do here?" says Rose.

"It is, or it was," says Addison. "My ex-husband is McSteamy. My ex-mistress is McSteamy," says Addison.

"And these are all of your exes?" says Rose.

"Hey," says Addison. "And no, because I never dated McVet, but I did share the McDog," says Addison.

"So which one are you?" says Rose.

"Haha, what?" says Addison.

"What are you? Mc…?" says Rose.

"Oh, I don't have one of those," says Addison.

"And if I ask around, no one will tell you that you have a McNickname?" says Rose.

"As far as I know, I do not have a McNickname," says Addison.

"Look, this is totally pathetic, but do you think he'll show up? Dr. Shepherd… Do you think he'll show up here? I told him I'd wait for him at this bar, but I don't know if he's going to show up, and I don't know how long I should be waiting before it's pathetic.

"Look Rose…" says Addison.

"You don't think he's gonna show, do you," Rose sighs.

"Meredith is… She's not the kind of girl that you leave if you can help it…" Addison sighs.

"Is she your ex too?" says Rose.

"What!? Meredith!? No!?" Addison yelps.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to assume, it's just… When you say her name you get all wistful, so I just wondered, that's all," says Rose.

"Oh, yeah it's okay. No, Meredith and I… It was complicated. She hated me, and I hated her. And then I didn't hate her anymore, and she kind of stopped hating me. And then she nearly died… Twice! And then I moved away to Los Angeles because it got too confusing to think about," says Addison.

"You moved away… Because of Meredith?" says Rose.

"Yes… But I'm only telling you this because I don't know you, and you don't know anyone that I know, and I hope that you will not tell anyone that I know," says Addison. "And because you're hopelessly in love with my ex-husband, which I don't think is going to go well… By the way… Sorry, Rose, well I just figured I could share something about me with you," says Addison.

"So, you're in love with your ex-husband's girlfriend, and you just came out here for one case, and you haven't ever told her that?" says Rose.

"She's in love with Derek. It's complicated," says Addison.

"Sounds like you're afraid to tell her how you feel," says Rose.

"Yeah, well you're afraid to tell Derek how you feel," says Addison.

"He's a neurosurgeon, and I'm just a scrub nurse. It's intimidating," says Rose.

"Meredith's a legend around here. She has a big house where everybody lives. And she's so talented," Addison sighs.

"We should do something about it? Right?" says Rose.

"Well, you could do something… But I may or may not have chewed Derek out for breaking up with Meredith," says Addison. "What, I didn't know you then," says Addison.

"Great," says Rose. "Are you going to do something about liking Meredith?" says Rose.

"I'll try to get her back together with Derek," Addison sighs. "She's a good kid, she deserves to be with him if she loves him. It makes her happy. She should be happy," says Addison.

"That is very noble of you," says Rose.

"Thanks," says Addison. "In practice, it's awful," she sighs. "I'm 39 and alone, and I'm sitting here dreading going back to Los Angeles because I won't be able to stare at my hopeless crush anymore. How pathetic is that," says Addison.

"Probably as pathetic as pining over a guy who promised to build Meredith a house," says Rose.

"He's building her a house?" says Addison.

"Rumor has it," says Rose.

"She's a little young for a house. I mean, she has a house, but to share a house, I mean," says Addison.

"Yeah, she seemed a little freaked out by it," says Rose. "What, we can cling to the same shreds of hope, can't we," Rose laughs.

"Sure we can," Addison joins her.

They chat for a while, until the doorbell rings, and two people enter the bar.

"Hi," says Derek.

"Hi…" says Rose.

"Hi," says Meredith.

"Hi…" says Addison.

"So ah, we have an update," says Derek.

"Don't tell me, you're getting married?" says Rose.

"You're already married, you eloped?" says Addison.

"No, we're not married," Meredith laughs.

"Oh, what's your update?" says Rose.

"We're here for you," says Derek.

"Yeah," says Meredith.

"I'm sorry what?" says Addison.

"I'm picking Rose, and Meredith is picking Addison," says Derek.

"We've come to the mutual agreement that we've decided not to date each other because we both wanted to see… Other people," says Meredith.

"But wait now, I thought you were supposed to be the dream couple that everyone wanted to be?" says Rose.

"We were more like off again on again never gonna happen again," says Meredith.

"We haven't been together for a while," says Derek.

"And we're ready to move on," says Meredith.

"So?" says Derek.

"So?" says Rose.

"Do you want to go out with me?" says Derek.

"I'd like that," Rose giggles.

They wave goodbye together, and Meredith smiles at them.

"You know, I came here to kick your ass about her, and try to get you back with Derek," says Addison.

"And why would you do that?" says Meredith.

"Because I want you to be happy, Meredith," says Addison.

"So stay with me. Make me happy. You make me happy," says Meredith.

"You really mean that?" says Addison.

"When you left I was so lost. I didn't know what to do. And now you're back here, and I don't want you to go. I just want you to be with me," says Meredith.

"Okay," says Addison.

"Okay," says Meredith.

"You know, Derek's not the only one with a thing for ferry-boats," Addison chuckles.

"I do have a thing for ferry-boats," says Meredith. "We could ride one sometime," says Meredith.

"We could," Addison smiles.

"Well, well, well, I guess life does fall on the side of the dirty mistresses sometimes," says Mark.

"We weren't having an affair, Mark," says Meredith.

"We're just getting together now," says Addison.

"Why am I always the one left out of things…" Mark pouts.

"Hey ah, Dr. Sloan?" a figure appears behind Dr. Sloan shyly.

"Hi… I'm ah… I'm Lexie," says Lexie nervously.

"Hi," says Mark. "Mark Sloan, plastics," Mark holds out his hand to her.

"I know," says Lexie. "Because I was your intern… Four times now… And I also memorized your Wikipedia page," says Lexie.

"I have a Wikipedia page?" says Mark.

"Yeah, do you want to hear about it?" says Lexie.

"Alright then," says Mark, as he waves to Meredith and Addison.

"Do you think it's weird that he's hitting on my sister?" says Meredith.

"Do you?" says Addison.

"I think they're kinda cute together actually," says Meredith.

"Yeah, I think they are," says Addison.

"I think you're cuter though," says Meredith, as she slides over next to Addison on the barstool.

"Yeah?" says Addison, giggling like a teenager.

"Yeah," says Meredith.

"Aren't you gonna kiss her?" says Mark, as he re-emerges to this side of the bar with Lexie.

"Leave them alone," says Lexie. "They're happy."

"Thanks, Lexie," says Meredith.

"Come on," says Addison. "Let's go somewhere."

"Let's," says Meredith, as she waves goodbye to Mark and Lexie.

"Well, today has certainly been a wreck of emotions," says Addison.

"Yeah," says Meredith.

"Let's do something fun and touristy," says Addison.

"It's two in the morning," says Meredith.

"Let's go see the Space Needle," says Addison.

"Okay!" says Meredith.

They get a cab there and stand in front of it, and watch as it towers over the sky.

"I've never been up it. I've lived here many times and I've never been," says Meredith.

"Me neither," says Addison. "Let's go sometime," says Addison.

"Let's," says Meredith.

"Do you want to come over to my hotel room?" Addison offers.

"As tempting as that sounds, all my past relationships failed because I started too fast with the sex, so maybe not tonight," says Meredith.

"We could just hang out and not have sex," says Addison.

"Nope, believe me. If I end up in a hotel room alone with you, then there will be sex. Lots of sex, and we are not having sex tonight, so I can't join you in your hotel room because there can be no sex tonight," says Meredith.

"Okay, whatever you say," says Addison, as she kisses Meredith lightly on the cheek.

"Okay, but there can be some kissing. Kissing is more than okay," says Meredith.

"Okay, there can be kissing," Addison teases, as she leans in to kiss Meredith.

Meredith smiles as she leans in and takes Addison's lips into her own, brushing her hair away as she kisses her softly.

"So are you moving back then?" says Meredith.

"I think you've convinced me," says Addison, with another kiss on Meredith's cheek.
