When Edward left, I fell apart. I couldn't understand what I had done to make him leave me. After he left, I ran over every detail in my head of our time together and I couldn't figure it out. Eventually I slowly started to heal with the help of my best friend Jake. We would spend everyday after school hanging out in his garage working on cars. I could tell he had feelings for me but I couldn't return those feelings.
Jake disappeared on me for a while and I couldn't figure out why. I was slowly starting to sink back into my depression. Then one night he shows up at my window to apologize and try to get me to remember the legends he told me that day at First Beach. When he said legends it immediately clicked into place he was a wolf. That was the first night we kissed. I knew it was wrong considering I did not like him but I figured I could learn to love him over time. After that night we started hanging back out again every day. Then Victoria came and ruined my moment of semi happiness. After about a month of the wolfs chasing her they finally got her. I was so happy that night. It was the first night Jake and I had sex. We were both inexperienced but it was still good. After that first time we went out it every day. Until that one fateful day that changed everything.
We were hanging out in my bed before my graduation ceremony. Luckily Charlie got called into work for a few hours. As we were laying in my bed, we started kissing and that lead to one thing then to another. We had sex 3 times before we had to get up and get dressed for the ceremony.
"Bells you okay?" Jake asked. He always did like to check on me after sex.
"I promise I'm good!" I told him as I threw on my clothes.
We made it downstairs just in time. Charlie walked through the door as soon as we stepped into the kitchen.
"Hey kids." Charlie said. He didn't know about our relationship thankfully.
"Hey dad. You ready to go?" I ask
"Yeah lets head on out."
Jake and I rode in my truck to the school. When we got there I went to join the other graduates while dad and Jake grabbed a seat. After the ceremony was over with, I could see them making there way towards me.
"Hey Bella. I can't believe it! We are officially done with high school. We have got to hang out this summer before we go off to college." Angela said.
"Yes we do." I said.
"Dad you remember Angela. Angela this Jake my friend." As soon as the words left my mouth Jake looked into Angela's eyes and he imprinted.
I knew that I didn't love Jake but it still hurt to lose him. I know I shouldn't feel like this but I cant help it.
"Hey Angela" Jake said
"Hey Jake" she said back.
After that day, I kept my distance from them. I planned on avoiding them at all cost but fate had other plans. About a month and a half after graduation I started getting sick every day. I just figured it was a bug going around but it wasn't. One evening when I was in the bathroom looking for more stomach medicine, I seen the unopened box of tampons. I started panicking. I drove to Port Angeles to get a test since I didn't won't Forks knowing my business. Once I bought the test I pulled over at gas station and went inside to take the test. After I peed on the stick, I put the cap back on and walked back to my truck. I sat in my truck waiting on the timer to go off on my phone. When it did I looked down at the test and it showed a plus sign. I started to panic. After I calmed back down, I headed on home. On the way home I made the decision to keep the baby. I knew I was going to have to leave. I didn't won't to mess up their relationship.
ONE MONTH LATER
Charlie came home one evening looking really mad.
"BELLA GET DOWN HERE NOW!"
"Whats up dad?"
"You wanna tell me why you dated a vampire and got so depressed over him?" How did he know. I couldn't form any words at the moment to speak. I just stared at him confused.
"I know the Cullen's are vampires. You might be wondering how I know. Well thats because Sue Clearwater and I are dating and she along with the Tribal Council filled me in on everything. How could you be so stupid to get involved with vampires? How?" He was really mad right now and I still couldn't form any words to answer his question.
"What? You have no answer for me on that one. Well you know what if you love them so much, go live with them. I want you out of my house today. You have 45 minutes to pack you stuff and get out." All I could do was nod my head at him.
I walked up the stairs to my room to start packing. I was in complete shock at that moment. I packed 4 bags and I grabbed my secrete stash of money I had hid. Once it was shoved in my bag. I made my way down the stairs. When everything was loaded up in the truck, I noticed some tribal members pull up. They all looked at me and then at Charlie. I noticed someone got out and helped Billy out of the truck.
"Goodbye Charlie. Don't look for me or every contact me again. I know you asked questions that I'm sure you would like the answer to but I was in shock when you asked me those questions."
"Wait Bella. Charlie you don't wanna do this. You will regret this." Billy said
"No Billy. Whats done is done and I'm leaving. You won't hear from me again." I climbed in my truck and started it up. When I was backing out I saw Jake and Angela pull up and they were trying to get me to stop but I wouldn't. I wanted them to have a happy life and not to have to worry about the love child I was carrying.
I didn't have a destination in mind so I just drove until I couldn't drive no more.
7 YEARS LATER
After I left Forks, I never looked back. 2 months after I left, I found out I was carrying identical twin boys. I worked a couple of crappy jobs while putting myself through college. It wasn't easy but I made it work. I managed to graduate with honors with a degree in finance. I managed to land a job at one of the best financial firms in LA. That job made it easier to take care of the boys. I climbed the ladder there fairly quickly. Before long I was working right under the VP. They boys and I had an amazing life after that. We always took a vacation somewhere far away. I made sure they got the best education money could buy. They were top of their class. I was so proud of them.
A year ago I was feeling very sluggish and sick. After a few days of not being able to shake it, I went to the doctor and thats when I found out some horrible news. I had stage 3 brain cancer. We tried different rounds of chemo and radiation but none seemed to work. About 6 months ago I had to quit my job. I was no longer able to work due to the cancer.
I had another check up today
"Bella. I just reviewed your most recent scans and I don't have good news. It now has progressed to stage 4 and you have maybe a year left to live."
I refused to break down and cry. I had to be strong for my boys.
"Thank you Dr. Westerfield. I appreciate your time." I grabbed my stuff and walked out the door towards my car. I had about 4 hours left until I picked up the boys.
When I found out I had stage 3 cancer, I started getting everything in order for the boys but there was one thing left to do. I had to tell their father so he could look after the boys. I reached into my purse and grabbed my phone. I punched in the number I knew I would never forget. It rang a few times before Billy answered.
"Hello."
"Hey Billy. It's Bella. How are you?" I asked
"Bella! Is that really you?" I couldn't help but to smile
"Yeah it is. You been doing okay?"
"I've been doing good. Hang on Jake wants to talk to you." I heard the phone being passed to him
"Bells! How are you?"
"Not good Jake. Thats why I called. We need to have a private conversation and please don't interrupt me when I start please. First is there any pack members there, if so can you ask them to leave and second please get Billy as far back from you as possible." I waited a few seconds before he spoke again.
"Okay Bella. That's some weird request but they are done." He said. I braced myself for this.
"Okay Jake here goes nothing. Jake when I left Forks I was pregnant by you. Yes I knew when I left Forks but I couldn't interfere with Angela's and yours relationship. I had to leave especially after what Charlie said to me. You have identical twin boys and they are wonderful. The other reason for my call is that I need you to get to know them. I have stage 4 brain cancer and nothing it working. I have maybe a year left to live. I know you are pissed off right now and you have every right to be. So go one and yell and get it over with." The line went silent for a while and I just waited. I knew he needed time to process everything.
"BELLA ARE YOU SERIOUS?! HOW COULD YOU? I WOULD HAVE BEEN THERE FOR YOU AND MY CHILDREN. ANGELA AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE! WE BOTH HAVE BEEN WORRIED SICK ABOUT YOU. TURNS OUT YOU HAD OUR CHILDREN IN SECRET AND LET ME GUESS YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TOLD ME NOW IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE CANCER. HOW COULD YOU KEEP THEM FROM ME?"
"You are absolute right, if it wasn't for the cancer you wouldn't know about them right now. I'm sorry. I know that don't mean anything to you right now but just know I am sorry. If you would like to see them, I can bring them up so they can get to know you." Another long silent period. I'm pretty sure he was taking some deep breaths.
"Well of course I wanna see them and so does my dad. When can you come?"
"We will be on the next flight out. See you soon Jake." With that I ended the call.
I glanced at the clock and saw that I had enough time to run home and pack before I got the boys. Once I got home I got us plane tickets booked that left at 4. Thankfully it was a non stop to Seattle. I pulled up at the school just in time to get the boys.
"Hey Will and Reed! How was school?"
"It was awesome mom. We got to do another experiment today!" they both said at the same time with the same amount of excitement.
"Well I have some news to share with you guys. I'm taking you to see your dad for a few days." I glanced in the back seat to see their faces. They look shocked for a minute then Will spoke up.
"Are you serious. Finally mom. I'm so excited!" he said.
The boys talked among themselves all the way to the airport. You could feel the excitement radiating off of them. When we got checked into our flight and made it to the terminal, we did not have to wait to board. Once we got on the plane we made our way to first class. The boys talked quietly the whole flight about what they thought their dad was like. I never told them much and that I do regret it but I don't regret raising them by myself. We finally begun our descent into Seattle. Since we were the only ones in first class we got to deboard first. I already called ahead and had a rental waiting on us. By the time we got in the car and made our way towards Forks it was only 6. I pulled over at a rest area to call Jake and talk in private. He answered on the first ring.
"Jake its Bella. We are in Seattle. Do you wanna see them today or tomorrow morning?"
"I wanna see them today."
"Okay. Meet me in Port Angeles please. We can all get a late night bite to eat. My treat."
"That works. Where at?"
"Jake I've not been back in years. You pick a place and we will be there."
"What about the pizza place we use to go to?"
"That works. See you in two hours." I said then hung up the phone.
The drive there was good. The boys kept on discussing their dad. When we made it to the restaurant. I saw Jake and Angela standing outside the restaurant.
"Okay boys. Remember to be polite and that its not his fault. Its my fault. Also be nice to his wife or I will not send you to science camp this summer. Deal?" They shared a look between them and nodded their heads that they understood. Taking away science camp was a major deal to them. We got out of the car and made our way over to them.
"Will and Reed, this is your dad Jake and his wife Angela."
"Hey" they both said at the same time
"Hey. It's nice to meet you. We can't wait to get to know you." Jake said to them. I could tell everyone was nervous.
"Alright who's hungry?" I asked
"Me!" both boys said.
"Bella can we talk real quick?" Jake asked.
"Yeah we can. Hang on though. Boys why don't you and Angela go own inside and order for us. I give you full use of the debit card tonight boys. So go have fun ordering."
"YES!" they both screamed. Angela lead them inside to get us a table.
