A/N: Hey, guys! I'm trying out a new fandom. I've been in the 'Mortal Kombat' for a few years now. Maybe even longer than I've had my Wattpad account. I finally got the inspiration to write some after seeing the movie. This fic is heavily inspired by two Batman storylines: a death in the family and under the Redhood. 'Mortal Kombat' might become a fandom I post for on the regular, or it might be a one-time thing like 'Inside Out' or 'Joker.' Now, on with the chapter!
Note: MK11 never happened. Cassie was still promoted to commander, though.
The team of young combatants sat on their jet. It was their first mission under their new commander, Commander Cassandra Cage. Over the past year, the group had become close. They were now like a family. Defeating Shinnock had brought the group close together.
"This should be a simple in and out mission," Cassie said. "The Black Dragon has developed a new weapon. We don't know much about it, but we think it might be the most dangerous yet. The fewer amount of casualties the better. We want to arrest if possible."
"Permission to state my concern, Commander," Jacqui said. She stood up and gave Jacqui the military salute.
"Permission granted," Cassie said. She wasn't used to her comrades treating her with such formality. It was the same formality that they gave her mother. It felt the weirdest from Jacqui since she had been her best friend since they were in diapers.
"I fear we're being led into a trap," Jacqui sighed. "The Black Dragon usually doesn't set up camp in Earth Realm? Kano has also been MIA for half a year now. He could be planning something huge. We might not be enough."
"We can always call backup," Cassie said. "But I don't think we'll need to. We can handle a few arms dealers by ourselves. After Shinnok's second invasion, I have a boost of confidence in us."
"Careful, you're starting to sound like your dad," Jacqui joked. They landed at the warehouse where the deal was supposedly going on. It was on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia. They climbed out of the plane and entered the building.
The warehouse was dimly lit. There were hundreds of cardboard boxes. "Divide and conquer," Cassie whispered. As they moved through the warehouse, Kung Jin tripped over a wire. This set off an alarm, and members of the gang surrounded them. The group got into fighting stances.
"Nice going, Jin," Takeda whispered. They started to fight. Cassie managed to land a kick on a masked figure's head. Jacqui managed to fight off two of the guards. Another flopped her onto her back.
Takeda fought off the guy who flipped Jacqui. The rest of the battle went the same. They followed Cassie's advice and managed to knock them out. Jacqui slammed her head into one of the guard's heads, knocking out the last one.
They looked around the room. "That's the last one," Jacqui said. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," Takeda said. He took another look around the room. "Wait, where's Cas?"
"One, two three," Kano said. He stabbed a knife through Cassie's side. Cassie tried to hide her pain, but she could tell the blade had something on it. Some sort of potion; probably from Outworld.
She had been taken to another warehouse. The Black Dragon mission was a trap by Kano. He had knocked her out during the battle and cuffed her hands and ankles together. Whenever she moved, they seemed to get tighter. That didn't stop Cassie from trying to fight back.
"One, two, three," Kano repeated. He stuck his fingers into one of her open wounds. This one was on her left thigh. He moved his fingers around the wound before pulling them out. He grabbed her hair to make her look at him. "Looks like I did quite the number on you, Bird."
Cassie spits at him in defiance. Kano responded by slamming her face into the ground. Cassie grunted in response. Blood was trickling down from her nose. Kano stood up, wiping off his hands.
"Make sure you tell your mommy that I said hello," Kano said with a dark laugh. "That is if you can say anything by the time they get here."
Kano then left the warehouse. Cassie waited until she was sure he was away before making her moves. Her ankles were still bound together, which made walking impossible, The fact that her legs were also probably broken didn't help.
She dragged herself across the ground. She saw the door that led out of the warehouse. She smirked and started to go in that direction. Her training with the Special Forces had led her to this moment.
She slowly made her way to the door. She tried to open the door. She got the knob to move but quickly discovered that it was locked. That's when she heard the beeping. She turned around, seeing that a bomb was about to go off.
Cassie no longer feared death. She was aware that she wasn't immortal, even if she could beat Shinnok. Death would come eventually, but it wasn't something she welcomed with open arms.
Cassie closed her eyes as the bomb went off.
