Fi-fi boom – keep fighting.

Summery: Bucky and his sister, Becky, are twins. Sometimes Becky's nightmares aren't her own. Short, set before Steve rescues Bucky from Zola.

Some people say that there is a special bond between twins, especially identical twins, and for Becky and Bucky Barnes that was certainly true. James Buchanan Barnes and Rebecca Ernaline Barnes (their parents had a predilection for strong, possibly obscure, Gaelic middle names) were two peas in a pod. As babies they were inseparable. As toddlers they developed their own language – twin speak – a language that they still used occasionally into adulthood. (Although Bucky, the traitor, had taught scrawny Steve some of it.)

To say that Becky and Bucky were close is to say that the left and right hand know each other well, they were more than close. When Bucky got appendicitis Becky got a fever, when that arsehole Tommy Greenwalt broke Becky's arm (for attacking him to protect scrawny Steve) Bucky's ached for two months… and when Zola started experimenting on Bucky…

The scream ripped from Becky's lungs even before she was fully aware of why she was screaming. Pain! Pain, so much pain. She tried to move but she was strapped down, strapped in place. She tried to turn her head, but she couldn't. Her eyes were forced open, images and sounds… She could feel sweat pouring down her body, yet she was also cold, so very cold. There was a man's voice, soft and smooth, but she couldn't make out the words.

"Becky! Becky, wake up!" Her mother's desperate voice begged her.

"Relax, Major Barnes." The man's voice cooed. Bright, the light was so bright, he couldn't see! A needle pierced her forearm, his forearm, and pain radiated across his bicep like fire! Her bicep…

"Becky!" Her mother's voice desperately pleaded again, but it was distant far away. "Rebecca! Rebecca Ernaline Barnes, wake up, please wake up!" Mother sobbed.

"Listen to the words, Major Barnes, listen and relax. You want to do what is best. You know what is best, it is best that you comply." The man's voice cooed. A recording started to play.

"Zhalaniye, Rzhavyy, Semnadtsat'…"

"James Buchannan Barnes," Bucky whispered in a near broken voice, but the recording would not stop.

"… Rassvet, Pech'…" The recording continued.

"…Major." Bucky whispered.

"Becky wake up!" Mother screamed.

Suddenly Becky was back in her room, in her small narrow bed, the overhead lamp blindingly bright. Her mother was kneeling beside the bed clutching her arm, crying. "Serial number 32557038." Becky whispered. And then reality hit. "Bucky… Bucky's alive."

Her mother's sobs only got louder. "No, Becky…" She whispered. "You saw the letter, same as me." The letter had arrived yesterday, it had pronounce Bucky as captured – presumed dead.

"He's not dead." Becky whispered. "You'll see, he's not dead. They're hurting him, I can feel it-"

Mother suddenly clamped a hand over Becky's mouth. "Don't say that! Don't ever say you can feel when bad things happen to him! They'll say it's the devil. They'll lock you up and drill a hole in your scull, like they did to popa!" She slowly pulled her hand away from Becky. "Please, you need to stop that demon talk. We've talked about this!"

Becky bit her lip, betrayal and fear twisting in the pit of her gut. She knew Bucky was alive, knew that he was being hurt, if she could only tell somebody then maybe they could help? But mother was right, they'd say she was processed, or call her a witch, or something.

"Could you get me a glass of water?" She asked softly. Mother nodded and stood up, leaving the room and allowing Becky a moment to herself. "Bucky." She whispered once she was alone in the room. "Fi-fi boom." [Keep fighting.]

Far, far away, in a cold room, on a cold metal table, the semi-conscious Bucky Barnes attempted to wet his cracked dry lips and fought to find his voice again. "Fi-fi boom." He whispered just before he passed out.

A/N: I choose Becky for the same reason many people have, the Becky/Bucky play is fun. I choose Ernaline as her middle name as it means "Capable or serious or battle to the death". Buchannan means "House of the Canon." Interestingly Rebecca means: To tie family (bond); derived from the Hebrew name Rivkah, from the verb ribbqah, meaning "noose." (Yes, yes, it also means Servant of God.)
