Charmer And Company

In the depths of the Big Apple there is a lively and beautiful young Doberman called Charmer. She once thought she had it all with a wonderful family. That is until one day when she is abandoned on those lonely streets. Soon after she is found and taken in by a gang of thieving dogs that are more than they appear to be on first glance. *Based on the famed Oliver and Company film*

Disclaimer: I own nothing except for my OC Charmer and any alterations to the original storyline plot her presence creates to various readers amusement everywhere across the globe during these dark and gloomy days.

Charmer And Company Prologue

Once long ago in the confines of New York City a young Doberman called Charmer once thought she had it all with a human family that loved her with all their hearts. They'd go on numerous walks throughout the day, play ball in Central Park, and spend content quiet evenings at home.

Life was good.

But then a fourth addition was added to the family. One day a baby was born into the household. Even though this was a drastic change in her way of life the Doberman assumes all will be all right. Sure the baby cries a lot, but most of the time the little one just sleeps in her crib and when she's awake she smiles and gurgles at everyone she sees. Even Charmer.

So at times, Charmer would lie down close to the baby in order to stay nearby to protect her if need be. The baby likes to touch her fur and when Charmer pokes her nose into the child's belly causing her to laugh.

All was well for a little while until a dreadful condition is uncovered.

That is until one day the parents, unfortunately, discover that their new baby is somehow allergic to their beloved pooch even though neither of them is predisposed to it in the first place. So the situation leaves them fairly stumped and deeply concerned for the infant's safety. It leaves them seriously contemplating an option they never once have had to ever consider before.

Giving up Charmer.

To be honest since the baby was born the pair have secretly been considering the idea for a while, but never quite humored it because there wasn't really a need to. Then the baby sometimes began reacting negatively to certain things Charmer would do like barking at strange individuals walking by their brownstone, causing the baby to wake from naps and cry in distress. Also, scratching in close proximity creates the danger of potential fleas or other bugs getting onto the baby.

Where before all on their mind was Charmer now first priority transferred to the baby. Meaning there's no room for a dog in the family unit any longer.

So one day the husband took out Charmer and the wife is at home with the baby. The husband gave Charmer the impression that they were out to play fetch in one of New York City's separate parks, big or small. Charmer is happy as ever about the attention. The first time the ball is thrown she was ecstatic, running directly after it. Returning with the ball in her mouth Charmer fully expects to find her owner right where she left him. Instead she's met with an empty space with her master nowhere in sight.

At first Charmer believes her owner may have momentarily gone somewhere to get something and assumes she'll wait there for him. So that's what Charmer does, naively waiting patiently for him to reappear again.

The man never does. Apparently having no unfinished business with a dog he and his wife have loved ever since she was a little puppy.

Upon this realization Charmer is left devastatingly heartbroken. She's gone from a family dog with basically the entire world at the tips of her paws to being a homeless stray on the street. They didn't even have the courtesy of even making the slightest effort to locate a new home for her. They simply decided on this. Charmer thought they loved her.

How wrong she was.

Severe devastation overtaking her Charmer comes close to losing hope until suddenly one day a pack of stray dogs finds her when she's foraging for food. In the beginning Charmer is initially suspicious towards them and they her, but then one of the five, Rita, convinces the others to bring her back to their home with them. And after much persuasion Charmer is convinced to return with them. Turns out their home is a decrepit yet still somewhat livable houseboat where they live with their owner the pickpocket Fagin. Following the circumstances from her abandonment Charmer is justifiably wary of this human, but soon learns that while he's a no good thief Fagin and his gang of dogs are much more than they appear. Charmer soon fits in quite well, meshing into this unconventional family unit.

But not long afterward an unfavorable situation arises from Fagin's stupidity that puts them all in danger and in a major crossfire where Charmer's wellbeing is on the line.

Just when she's gained a new family will Charmer lose this one too?

I cannot begin to describe how apologetic I am for taking so heinously long to get back on track. From this day forward that's all gonna change. Especially since now that I have some more story ideas in mind to add to my profile.
