Well, that changes now! So, without further ado...here is Chapter One of "The Roommates"! Hope you enjoy! :)

Chapter One: "Meet the Roomies"

*POV: Inuyasha*

I sighed as I stumbled to the door. There was an intense pounding coming from said door...making it impossible to sleep off my partying from the previous night. I threw the door open to come face to face with my sister-in-law, Rin.

"Morning, Yashie!"

I grumbled and stumbled back to the couch. She giggled and followed me in, shutting the door behind her. She then walked over and flopped down in an over-sized leather chair across from me. I ran a hand through my hair and lit a blunt.

"Isn't it a little early to be smoking the Devil's lettuce, Yashie?"

"Isn't it a little early to be banging on people's doors, Rinnie?"

"Touche."

"Touche. Wanna hit?"

She cracked a big smile.

"Is a pig's ass pork?"

I laughed and handed her the blunt. She hit it and handed it back.

"So, what is it that brings you to my door this morning, Rinnie?"

She sighed.

"Your brother."

"How is the Overlord?"

She rolled her eyes.

"He's stressed and tense, as always...and he's not an overlord."

I shrugged.

"Could have fooled me."

I handed her the blunt again. She hit it, handed it back, and leaned forward. She had her "serious face" on.

"Yash, it's time. You gotta do it, man."

"I don't know whatcha mean."

"Bullshit."

"Look, I don't want to. You know how I am, Rinnie."

"I do. I also know I'm tired of dealing with the aftermath from the 'Overlord', as you call him."

"See? It fits."

"Yashie."

I sighed.

"You did this, Rinnie. I didn't ask for all this."

I motioned around to the giant house.

"You did it. You deal with it. Seems only fair."

"Look, as much as I appreciate that flawless logic, it doesn't matter. What's done is done. It's time. You could always go the other route. Flying solo, just like you want."

"Rinnie, you know I can't do that."

"No. I know you won't."

"Can't."

"Yashie, there's nothing I can do anymore. I can't keep bailing you out. Either take your half of the responsibility and the reward of the company...or get some roommates. Either way, you have to start paying for this place. We both know there's more than enough space. No one even has to live in the main house. This can be all you. The upkeep is included in the house...but the payment isn't. The whole point of this was to teach you some responsibility."

"The point was to get me the hell out of Sesshomaru's house as soon as possible."

"And to teach you responsibility. Trust me, Yashie...this can be a good thing."

"Doubtful."

She rolled her eyes, knowing me too well. She had always been the one person who could outlast me and see straight through my bullshit.

"Figure it out, dude."

With that, she stood and left. Damn, Rin...always trying to teach somebody something. To hell with her responsibility lessons. Who needed them? As I sat there by myself, staring at the ceiling of the vast and very empty living room, I became increasingly aware of just how alone I was...and how much that sucked. I sighed and hit my joint as I opened my laptop. I did not like the idea of living with strangers...or anyone, for that matter. Not since the whole deal with...her. Still, I couldn't go the other route and Rinnie had made her point very clear in the brief time she had spent with me this morning. This was my only option. I'd done the math and to equal the rent and still be able to be comfortable, I needed five people. Hell, one roommate was bad enough...but five?! That was going to be pure torture. As I finished my blunt, I started looking through the responses I'd gotten from the listing my dear, sweet sister-in-law had posted for me...before telling me, of course. Damn, Rin. As I kept flipping through, I became more and more frustrated. I'd found maybe one person I wouldn't hate sharing a space with...and it had taken me three hours! How the hell was I supposed to find four more?! I slammed the computer shut and went to the kitchen, making myself some ramen for lunch. Yeah, all I needed was some food and a break. That would make it easier.

"Yeah, right. Keep telling yourself that, buddy."

I growled, trying to quieten the beast in my brain. He was only amused. I sighed and finished my lunch. As I walked back into the living room, I eyed the laptop. I really should just bite the bullet, and as Rin had said, "figure it out, dude"...but the longer I stared at the machine, the more enraged I started to become. I shook my head and grabbed my keys. I just needed to get the hell away for a while. After some time at the gym and a hot shower, I sat back down at my laptop. Right as I was about to open it, my phone vibrated. I picked it up and looked at the screen. The words "New Text: Rinnie" flashed across it. I sighed and opened the text.

"Hey Yashie! Any luck with the search?"

"Crackin that whip a little hard today, aren't we, Master?"

"Ha ha ha. I am so amused. Your clever wit has disabled me."

"Victory is always mine."

"Bullshit. How's the search going?"

"Rinnie..."

"Yashie..."

"I hate this."

"Too bad."

"I've been looking and there's maybe one good candidate...ONE."

"You need five."

"I know."

"You're missing four."

"I know."

"Find em."

"Rinnie!"

"No, Yashie. Find em."

"Do they have to come from this damned ad?"

"No. You just have to find four more people who can guarantee you the amount you need to pay your brother."

"I'll pay you."

"Money still goes to the same place."

"Yet, I don't have to interact. It's a win win, really."

"Whatever. Regardless, you have to find someone to give you the money first. Then, we can worry about who you hand it off to."

"It can be anyone? Like anybody?"

"Within reason...I don't like the vibe you're giving me right now."

"Within reason...and what exactly would be within reason?"

"What do you want?"

"Miroku."

"No."

"Rinnie."

"No."

"Why?"

"Are you kidding me?"

"Give me one good reason."

"You are a gasoline soaked pile of paper just waiting to burn the world down."

"And? What does that have to do with Roku?"

"Miroku is the lit match!"

"Rinnie...it's not that bad."

"Yes, Yashie...it is."

"If you're going to make me live with strangers...the least you could do is let me have my best friend."

"One, I'm not 'making' you. Two, Miroku is not a safety blanket or a service pet. No."

"Yes."

"Absolutely not. You know as well as I do that your brother will never go for that."

"Don't tell him."

"He's gonna want to know who these people are. I think he has that right, Yashie."

"I'm doing it."

"Yash, don't you dare!"

"Texting him now."

"Inuyasha, I will kill you...and then I will kill Miroku."

"Come on, Rinnie. Quit bein dramatic."

"Dramatic?! I'm gonna show your ass dramatic!"

"Oh yeah? How ya gonna do that?"

"I'll show you in about thirty minutes. Ya know what, make it twenty."

"Whatever."

"On my way, now."

"Yeah right!"

She sent me a picture of her driver...and her in the backseat. It looked recent and she didn't look happy.

"You've really done it now, haven't you?"

I growled and shook the beast away. Though, truth be told...I had really done it, now. I knew there was no escaping the wrath that was heading my way, so I just grabbed a beer and lit a blunt while waiting. As promised, about twenty minutes later, she was there...pounding on my door...yet again. I sighed, stood, and threw the door open. She flew in and slammed it shut, turning to glare at me. I sat down on the couch and just waited.

"Inuyasha..."

"I didn't actually call or text him...yet."

"Yash, I deal with a lot of shit for you...but not this. I can't tell you no. You're grown. However, if you do this...you will be dealing with the aftermath."

"Deal."

"I mean it. I'm not stopping or minimizing it at all. You're getting one hundred percent of the wrath."

"Bring it on."

"Yash!"

"I live to piss off my brother. That will never change. You know this."

She sighed.

"I do."

"Did you really come over here just to tell me that?"

She flopped down in the chair.

"No."

"So, what did you come for?"

"Yashie..."

"Rinnie..."

"I was thinking..."

"No."

"What?"

"Whatever you were 'thinking'...no."

"You don't even know what it is."

"I don't need to. What was it you said? I don't like the vibe you're giving me right now."

"But Yashie..."

"Nope."

"Hear me out, Yashie!"

I sighed. There was no winning with Rin. Eventually, she would wear me down...and we both knew it.

"Fine. What were you thinking?"

"Well, since you seem to be having a bit of trouble figuring it out, why don't I crash here tonight and help you find some roommates?"

"Bullshit. Where has the Overlord gone now?"

"Hawaii."

"How long?"

"Just three nights."

"Left you again?"

"Business trips are not for me. You know this."

"I do. What if I said no?"

"Too bad. I already sent Eddie home."

"No driver...smart."

"So, where do you wanna start?"

I rolled my eyes. As always, she knew she'd won. Then, I smirked.

"Miroku."

She rolled her eyes.

"Fine. Past that...where do we start?"

"Hell if I know. Figured you would tell me."

I downed the last of my beer and stood, walking to the kitchen. I grabbed two from the fridge and returned to the living room, handing one to Rin. She smiled and took it.

"How'd you know?"

I just looked at her and rolled my eyes as I sat back down. Truth was, Rin was like an actual sister to me. She was the only reason Sesshomaru hadn't killed me, yet. We were very in sync and we got along very well. We cared for and protected each other. I smiled as I noticed she already had the laptop open and in front of her.

"So, where do we start?"

"Well, I was looking through the responses to the ad."

I grimaced...she laughed.

"You're right. They are pretty rough. Who was the one?"

"What?"

"You said you found one."

"One potential candidate."

She rolled her eyes.

"Fine. Who was potentially the one?"

"Some chick. Bright red hair...cool green eyes."

She searched for a minute and smiled.

"Found her."

"Of course you did."

"Ok, let's see what we have here. Ayame Wolfe...wolf youkai...240, so that's twenty-four human years...a little wild, I dunno about that...well, hello! Hella rich parents...party lifestyle, we can just keep that between us...ok, I think she might work."

"Thanks for the approval, Mom."

She just rolled her eyes, choosing not to even acknowledge my bullshit at this point. That was part of the reason I loved her so much. I watched as she continued scrolling, then closed the computer.

"Well?"

"Well, I think you should definitely keep Ayame in mind. Past that, just no."

"Agreed. So, what now, Smarty Pants?"

"Now, we change tactics."

"Oh?"

"Instead of waiting for them to come to us...we're gonna go to them."

"Say what?"

She smiled...a devious smile. That usually meant she was or had recently been up to something. I wasn't sure I wanted to know what.

"What did you do, Rinnie?"

"Oh, nothing."

"Bullshit. What did you do?"

"Well...I may have done a thing."

"I know you've 'done a thing'. What is the thing you did?"

"I made an app."

"For?"

"People in search of a home that don't mind roommates."

"When did you make this app?"

"After I told you about the ad. I didn't think you'd actually even look, to be honest. Also, I figured I may need a backup plan...ya know, just in case."

That was Rinnie...always planning. She had a backup plan for the backup plan to the damn backup plan! I sighed.

"Have you already compiled a list?"

"You know it."

"Let me see."

She showed me a few candidates.

"This one I like...and as much as I hate to say it, I think Miroku will too."

"Miroku likes anyone with a vagina and a heartbeat that is of age."

"True. Still, I think you'll enjoy her, too."

"Listen, me and Roku are close...but not that close."

"One, that's not what I meant and you know it. Two, your statement is a lie...and you know it."

I laughed.

"When you're right...you're right...and I can't say that you're wrong."

"Exactly. Now, as I was saying...I think you'll like her."

"Hit me."

She handed me the profile and I looked it over. Name: Sango Taijai...Age: Twenty-two..Occupation: Demon Hunter. I looked at my sister-in-law.

"Seriously?"

"What?"

"Did you not read her job?"

She rolled her eyes.

"Of course I did."

"So, seriously?"

"Yes. Here's why...I read her website. She's not kill-happy. She's very selective in who and why she hunts. She doesn't mind demons."

"You got all that from her website?"

"I may have spoke to her."

"Rinnie...what did you tell her?"

"Nothing. I just said that I saw her profile...asked how she felt about demons...and told her I'd consider it. She was really nice."

I rolled my eyes and kept reading. She did seem like a cool chick...minus the whole killing demons professionally deal.

"Fine. I'll give it a chance. For Roku."

Truth was...she seemed like the perfect type for him...and she was tough. That meant she could handle all of his...Roku ways. Rin laughed.

"Where does that leave us?"

"We have Roku, the wolf chick, and the one who wants to kill me for money. We still need two."

"Ya know, Yashie...for someone who's always referring to others as 'dramatic'...you sure know how to play up a scene."

"Rinnie, my dear sister, is that your fancy shmancy way of calling me dramatic...as payback for our text conversation?"

"No! I would never. I'm simply pointing out straight facts, my beloved little brother."

"Little?"

"Yes, little."

"I'm over two hundred years old."

"Your brother loves to play this card. You know I don't go by dog years."

"Dog years?! Excuse me!"

"You are excused. So, two hundred and eighty, in human years, is twenty-eight. I am forty. That makes you the little brother. Boom! Straight facts."

"Fine. Whatever. You can have your moment."

"Thank you. Now, who else do we have here? Hmmmm...what about this guy? Kouga Bleiz...another wolf youkai...same age as you...he's a professional athlete, says baseball is his sport of choice...background looks good...not a bad looking guy..."

"Rinnie!"

"What?!"

"Seriously?"

"What? I'm allowed to look. He is of age...technically he's over age."

"We don't do dog years, remember?"

"Yeah yeah. Anyway, carrying on...everything looks pretty good here...hmmmmm. Oh, this will be lovely."

"What will? I don't like the way you said that."

"I just think this guy will be a good driving force for you in life."

"What?"

"You're gonna hate him."

"So why in the hell would I wanna live with him?"

"He's basically you."

"Excuse me?"

"He will make you hate him...but he will make you wanna beat him, too...so he will make you better."

"Rinnie, I don't think I want this guy. One wolf is too many wolves. Two is insane! Especially if I'm gonna hate him."

"Yashie, trust me. It will be good."

"You keep saying that. However, I don't think I'm inclined to believe you."

"No?"

"No. See, you say that, but you don't know. We're looking at these people on paper...not in their actual everyday lives. You don't have to live with them. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that you think this will be 'good' for you...by being very bad for me. Payback is a bitch...but does it have to invade a man's home? Is that not sacred?!"

"One, I would never! Two, it will be good. Three, it's not your home until you start paying for it."

"Cold, Rinnie. That's just cold."

"So, yes or no to the wolf cutie? Actually, they were both cute, if I'm being honest."

"Rinnie!"

"What? I like to be honest. Sue me."

"Sometimes, I wish I could."

"Too bad I have the company legal team behind me, huh?"

"Yeah...that's what saves you."

I rolled my eyes.

"You could have that same legal team...and not have to live with any of these people. Just say the words, Yashie. 'I accept.' Two little words."

"Never."

"Then, hush and help me look for the last one."

I rolled my eyes and we set to work. Many hours later, we still only had four people.

"This is impossible!"

I gave a frustrated sigh and threw my hands in the air.

"Nothing is impossible, Yashie. We just have to try harder."

"Rinnie, it's three in the morning. I'm exhausted."

"Me too. We should get some sleep and come back fresh. Then, we try harder!"

"Whatever. As long as I get sleep. You staying in your room?"

"Yeah. Thanks for this, Yashie."

I gave her a confused look.

"You know you don't have to thank me. Hell, it's routine at this point. I don't even think about it. Besides, it's the least I can do to start to pay you back for all you do."

"Awww."

"No, seriously. I don't say it enough, but you're amazing and I should thank you every day. For taking care of me, even though I'm grown...for always taking the heat from the Overlord...hell, for helping me find roommates. I love you, Rinnie. Thank you."

I hugged her and went to bed. She knew I loved her...but it wouldn't kill me to say it every once in a while. I heard her go into the room across from mine...aka her room...and lay down. She needed her sleep...but she never wanted to take it. I hoped she was exhausted enough to not have a choice.

*Next Morning*

I awoke to the smell of bacon and pancakes. I honestly loved when Rin stayed with me...it meant a night of hanging out with my cool sister...and breakfast the next morning! I stood and rushed downstairs. She was already at the table, eating her breakfast and going through emails. My plate was waiting in the living room, next to the remote. I just smiled...she knew me too well. I flopped down, grabbed the plate and remote, and turned on the tv. As I flipped through the channels, I began demolishing my breakfast. Just as I was finishing up, Rin came around the corner.

"Morning, Yashie! How was breakfast?"

I set the plate down, turned the tv off, and downed the glass of orange juice she'd left for me.

"Delicious, as always. Thank you."

"You're welcome. Sleep well?"

"Like a baby. You?"

"Decent."

"Missing hubby?"

"Its hard when you're used to something and then are suddenly without it."

"I know."

She gave me a sad smile and quickly changed the subject...just like every other time she was even vaguely referred to. It had been nine years...but the wound never fully healed. I doubted it ever would. As I shook the thoughts and memories from my head, I realized I was handed something. Rin stood there, with my laptop in hand.

"So, I was thinking we should get an early jump on this search for the last piece."

I knew there was no arguing, so I just nodded and set to it. Still, we had no luck. Finally, we gave up and Rin set to calling the candidates we had found. After everything was settled, we just kicked back with a couple beers and decided to waste the day away watching dumbass movies.

*Two Days Later*

I smiled as I walked downstairs to find Rinnie sitting at the counter. My breakfast was ready and waiting...and her suitcase was by the door.

"Morning, Yashie!"

"Morning, Rinnie. Get any sleep last night?"

"Nope."

"Too excited?"

"You know it!"

Rin never slept the night before Sesshomaru came home, so I wasn't at all shocked.

"That's not healthy."

"Thanks, Mom."

"Seriously?"

She rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at me.

"Oh yeahhh. Very mature, Rinnie."

That got me a giggle.

"What's with the paper?"

"I resorted to looking in the paper."

"For roommates?"

"Yes."

"Find any?"

"That would be a hard no."

"I'm fucked."

"Not necessarily."

"What does that mean?"

"The game is never over, Yashie. I have a few tricks left up my sleeves."

"Again, what does that mean?"

"Just leave that bit to me. Now, the three that we did find will be here any minute. You good?"

"I think so."

"You can do this, Yashie."

"Thanks, Rinnie. For everything."

She just gave me a smile. I jumped a little as I heard the doorbell ring. We exchanged looks and I went to the door. I opened it and there stood three people...the three strangers I would now be living with. There was the one who wanted to kill me for money, Sango...the party-chick wolf with the green eyes, Ayame...and the dick-head jock, Kouga. Dick-head was the one to speak.

"You Inuyasha?"

"Yeah. Come on in."

I stepped aside allowing them in. Sango turned and looked me over.

"The person I spoke to on the phone was a lady."

"Oh, that would be me!"

I smiled as Rinnie walked over.

"Hi, everyone. Unfortunately, I have an important meeting, so I must run. Bye, everyone! Yashie, walk me out?"

"Of course."

I turned to the group of people.

"I'll be right back."

I walked my sister-in-law out to her car.

"Overlord home?"

"On his way."

"Meeting at the airport?"

"Yes."

"You gonna tell him about them?"

"Yeah. I'll let you know how that goes."

"You gonna mention Roku?"

"Hell no! I told you...that's all you."

I laughed and gave her a hug. She climbed into the car and left. Once I was back inside, I was met with three curious stares.

"Ummmm...hi."

"Who was that?" Wolf-Chick.

"Who are you?" Demon-Killer.

"What is that smell?" Mangy Wolf.

"Woah! One at a time. Don't worry about the smell. My name is Inuyasha. This is my place. That,"

I motioned to the door.

"-was Rin. She would be the one you all spoke with. Any other questions?"

"How is this your place? What do you do?"

"Well, Sango, was it?"

"Yes."

She eyed me cautiously.

"I have a certain arrangement with a particular company. It keeps me paid well enough."

She said nothing in return, but her stare hardened.

"Apparently not...otherwise, we wouldn't be here."

Rin was right...I didn't like this guy.

"Screw you, jackass."

"What was that dog brains?"

"Oh, you do not wanna go there, wolf."

We glared at each other. Sango was the one to break the tension.

"Woah! Chill out, guys. What does that mean? An arrangement with a company? Are you a drug dealer or some other illegal shit?"

Her stance was becoming defensive and suspicion was rolling off of her in waves. I knew I needed to defuse the situation...and quickly.

"What?! No! My dad owned a company. He died. My douchebag brother took over and I get money. There, happy?"

"Bummer. Why so much space, man?"

"Well, Ayame?"

She nodded.

"Rin hates me."

"She seemed nice."

"She doesn't actually hate me. She just likes to do shit that pisses me off. Anyways...this is the main house...aka my space. You guys will be back here."

I took them out and showed them the three smaller houses that were spaced out across the massive "backyard". They were a little stunned.

"So, there's three houses...two people to a house. Don't worry. There are at least two bedrooms in each house...with locking doors. Some of you may find that information important later."

I'd said it for Sango's benefit. Unfortunately, she got the honor of sharing a space with Roku. She gave me a confused look.

"Why would you say that?"

"Some people can be a bit much at times. It's important to know you have your own secure space."

"I guess so."

She was still eyeing me cautiously.

"Alrighty, follow me, please."

I showed them the communal spaces first: the garage, pool, and gardens. Next, we went to the furthest house back.

"This will be Ayame and Kouga."

I couldn't keep the growl out of my voice when I said his name. If he had to live with me, at least he was as far from me as possible. Thanks, Rinnie. Speaking of...

"Rin is kind of a control freak, so she's already set everything up for you guys."

"How does she know what we like?"

"Its kinda her thing."

"Sounds a little stalkerish, Mutt. What kinda people do you hang out with?"

The beast in me started growling.

"Rip his head off."

I took a deep breath, containing that voice.

"First, you do not ever disrespect Rin. If you do, you will get your ass kicked. Second, she isn't someone I just hang out with. She's family. Can she go a bit overboard at times? Sure. But that does not mean you get to talk shit. You don't like it, you can find another place."

He growled and acted as if he wanted to say something else, but Ayame distracted him. As they got settled in, I led Sango to the middle house.

"This will be you. You'll be bunking with my buddy, Roku."

"Roku?"

"Miroku, actually. We've been friends since we were kids. He's a cool dude."

"Where is he?"

"Working currently. He'll be here later."

She gave me a concerned look, but just nodded.

"What about that one?"

She motioned to the last house...the one closest to the main house.

"Ummm, yeah. There will be one other person. That's where they'll stay. It's a one bedroom, so they'll be alone."

"Who will that be?"

"I, uh...don't know."

I ran a hand through my hair...something I often did when I was nervous or agitated.

"You don't know?"

I could tell Sango and I would probably get along well. She seemed just as guarded as I was. Again, Rin had been right.

"Rinnie...has someone in mind."

"Rinnie? Oh! The lady on the phone."

I chuckled.

"Yeah. It's an old nickname."

I kinda blushed and she smiled. After that, I left her to get settled in. Just as I was walking back into my house, I saw Roku coming through the door.

"Yash!"

"Roku!"

"I was so pumped when you texted me, Man. I couldn't wait to get the hell outta that apartment. Three dudes and one bathroom is not ok."

I laughed.

"Yeah, sounds like it was rough, Dude."

"So, am I bunking in the solo house or what?"

"Nah, buddy."

"Dude...I'm your best friend."

"Yes, you are."

"You're making me share?"

"I am."

"How could you?"

"Trust me, Dude. You're gonna love it."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah. Just promise me two things?"

"What?"

"One, remember the laws at all times."

"Ok. And two?"

"Two, try to show some self restraint."

"Restraint? Yash, you didn't?"

"Now that I'm rethinking it, it sounds much worse than it did before...but yeah...you're bunking with a chick...a fairly hot chick...a human chick."

"A woman! Man, I love you."

"Yeah yeah. Her name is Sango. 2B...show restraint, dammit."

"I will be on my best behavior."

"That doesn't help. Even your best is bad."

He laughed and walked out the door. I sighed and flopped down on the couch. So, the first meetings had been a little rough...no big deal. As Rinnie would say, this could be a good thing.

"It fucking sucks ass and you know it."

Damn that inner voice.

*The Next Day*

I slammed my hand down, shutting off the cursed alarm that had woke me from a very deep sleep. After our first meeting, everyone kind of spent the night to themselves, which I didn't mind. Roku did come up and kick it with me for a while. We drank a lot more than we probably should have, so I made him spend the night with me. I figured it was the safest thing for everyone, considering he was already sporting a red handprint on his cheek. I sat up and started rolling a blunt. Once I'd finished, I went down the hall and knocked on the guest-room door. Miroku pulled it open. He was still groggy and I could tell he was hungover.

"Dude, what time is it?"

"Eight AM."

He groaned.

"Yash, it's too early to be up, Man."

I rolled my eyes.

"You may have forgotten, but I informed you last night that we have a meeting with my jackass brother today."

"I did forget. Why the hell do we have a meeting with your brother? And why does that mean we have to be up right now?"

I sighed and held up the blunt.

"Join me downstairs and I'll explain it all to you...again."

He immediately perked up and followed me to the living room. I lit the blunt, hit it, and passed it to him.

"Ok, so meeting with Sesshomaru?"

I sighed and leaned back on the couch.

"Yes. Unfortunately, Rinnie didn't wanna take the heat for you living here."

"Ouch. That hurts, Man. Why is there heat for me living here?"

"The Overlord and his dearest wife seem to think we're trouble when we're together."

"What? That's crazy talk."

We both laughed, knowing full well that they were right.

"Anyway, we have to explain it to him today before the dinner tonight."

"Dinner? What dinner, Man?"

"Again, I explained this last night. Rinnie planned a dinner for everyone to meet Sesshomaru, because that's a great idea."

"Does she hate you, Man?"

"I'm starting to think the answer is yes."

"So, dinner...with all the roommates...and your brother?"

"He wants to do his little Overlord investigation and make sure they fit his criteria for 'acceptable roommates'...because it's Sesshomaru."

"That guy is so uptight, Man. I still don't fully believe y'all are related."

"Me either, but I can't prove it. So, I'm stuck with him."

"So, why do we need to have a meeting before dinner?"

"You know how Rinnie is, Dude. She's probably already in the kitchen slaving away...and it would be nice if we didn't cause a big scene by surprising the uptight douchebag."

"I guess that's a fair point. How is this meeting gonna play out?"

"In typical Sesshomaru fashion."

"So, a lot of yelling and bitching?"

"Pretty much."

"Fine. What time is this meeting?"

"I told him we'd meet him at the office at noon."

He groaned and stood.

"Fine. I'm gonna go shower. Thanks for letting me crash, Man."

"Yeah, well...Sango didn't need that energy in her life...and you don't need anymore hits to the head."

He laughed and then left. I ate some breakfast, took a shower, and decided to go get Miroku, since he wasn't back yet. Truthfully, I wanted to make sure Sango hadn't killed him yet. When I walked back, I saw Sango standing outside, talking to Ayame.

"Good morning, ladies."

They smiled and responded with typical morning greetings.

"Hey, Sango?"

"Yeah?"

"About Miroku..."

"He's inside. He takes longer in the shower than a woman."

I laughed.

"You're right about that. He always has...but that's not what I meant."

"No?"

"About his...ways."

"You mean his groping?"

"Yeah, that."

"What about it?"

"I promise he's really not a bad guy."

"He's a creep."

"I know he comes off that way, but deep down he really is a cool dude."

She laughed and waved it off.

"It's fine. I can handle him. He's not the first guy and he won't be the last."

I smiled.

"Cool. Listen, me and Roku have some errands to run, but you guys feel free to explore and get to know the place."

"We were just talking about spending the afternoon in the pool. If that's ok?"

"Of course! The pool house should be fully stocked with anything you need."

"Thanks. I'm gonna go see if I can dig my swimsuit out of my suitcase."

She turned to Ayame.

"Meet you there?"

Ayame smiled and nodded. After Sango had gone inside, she turned to me.

"So..."

That made me uneasy.

"So?"

"Listen, there is a very distinct smell coming from you. It is the same smell you told Kouga not to worry about in your house."

"Oh?"

She laughed.

"Dude, I know you smoke pot. I knew the minute I walked in your house yesterday. It's cool with me, so you don't have to worry."

"Busted. I guess you're wanting some?"

"My old dealer moved last week and I gotta smoke, Man. I've got the cash if you've got the stash."

"Here. This should do for now. When I get back, come see me. We'll work out a deal."

I handed her a couple blunts and she smiled.

"Thanks, Man!"

She went to her place to get changed and Roku finally emerged from the shower. After a stressful meeting with my brother that did, in fact, involve a lot of yelling and bitching, and even some threats, we returned home. Upon our return, Roku suggested we join the ladies at the pool and I agreed. So, that's what we did. As we walked up, we spotted them lounging in the chairs at the side of the pool.

"Ladies."

"Hey, guys!"

I grabbed some beers and we joined them.

"How'd your meeting go?"

I groaned and Miroku sighed.

"Brutal."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. Sesshomaru is a brutal kinda guy."

"Sesshomaru?"

"Inuyasha's brother."

"Oh yeah! You did say you have a brother."

I gave Sango a tight smile and glared at my best friend.

"Half brother."

"Would this be the 'douchebag brother' with the company?"

"Yes."

"Just a wild guess, but I'm assuming you guys don't get along?"

"Understatement of the century."

"Wow."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

I hadn't meant to sound so intimidating, but the beast felt a growl was necessary toward the end of that question. She raised her hands defensively.

"Nothing. I didn't mean to sound like a bitch. I just meant that I know about not having the best relationship with your sibling, but yours seems hella intense."

"It can be at times. That's why we make it a point to not be around each other."

Miroku laughed.

"Not tonight, buddy."

"Don't remind me!"

Ayame perked up.

"What's tonight?"

I sighed.

"I was gonna talk to y'all anyway. Rin has planned a dinner for you guys to meet the douchebag."

"Why would we wanna do that?"

"Yeah. If he's as bad as you say, I think I'm good."

I sighed.

"Listen, I promise no one hates the idea of this more than me. However, Rin means a lot to me. This dinner means a lot to her. She doesn't get to plan big things that don't relate to the company very often. When Rinnie makes up her mind, trust me...there is no telling her 'no'. My brother is also an uptight asshat. Technically, the house is currently in his name."

"Thought you said this was your place?"

"It is. He doesn't want anything to do with it. He would much rather me stay here than with him. Still, as an uptight asshat, and the technical owner of the house, he wants to meet the people living in the house. One way or another, you will end up meeting him. Better to at least do it in a group and with free food, believe me. So, what do you say, ladies? It would mean a lot to a lot of people and make all of our lives a lot easier if you guys would come."

"If it helps, I've tasted Rin's food. It's to die for...literally. You won't regret going once you start eating. You will regret not going when you find out what you missed."

They seemed to think about it for a moment and then Sango turned to me.

"What time?"

"We'll head out about 7."

"Alright. I suppose I could give it a shot."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. Rin seems like a very nice lady...and I wasn't in a great place before this. If it means an easy living arrangement and pleasing the woman that came to me when I was low, why not?"

"Hell yeah! What about you, Ayame?"

"I was in the minute you said free food."

I laughed.

"Sounds good. Will one of you inform the wolf?"

"I am the wolf."

"The other one. The uncool wolf."

Ayame laughed.

"Yeah, I'll text him."

"Where is he anyway?"

"Work. He should be back soon."

We hung out for a little while longer, then we each went back to our own spaces to get ready for dinner. As I was getting out of the shower, Ayame texted me to let me know that the fleabag had agreed. So, I texted Rin.

"Hey. I talked to everybody and they agreed. We're set for dinner."

"Hell yeah! I'm working on it as we speak."

"Can't wait."

"Lol. I also have a surprise for you."

"Oh? I do love a good surprise."

"I found your fifth roommate."

"What? Who?"

"Her name is Kagome. She's about twenty...just moved to the area."

"Why?"

"Don't know."

"How is that possible?"

"Lol. I didn't ask. It seemed personal."

"Where did you find her?"

"I have my connections."

"Vague as always...that's fine. Keep your secrets."

"Thanks for the permission, but I was already gonna do that."

"Whatever. See ya at dinner!"

"See ya then."

I put my phone away, got dressed, and looked at the clock...6 o'clock on the dot. Good, that meant I had some time to prepare myself for a night of listening to Sesshomaru bitch...and sitting across from a mangy, flea-ridden wolf for an entire dinner. Yeah, I was definitely gonna need to be in another headspace. As if he could read my mind, Roku busted into my room.

"We pre-gaming?"

"What ever could you mean, Dude?"

"Ha ha. Don't bullshit me, Man. There's no way in hell you're spending a night with your brother sober. So, let's fucking do this. Pre-game!"

"You right."

"I know. So, what's on the menu?"

"Well, first, we're gonna smoke this blunt."

"Yeah?"

"While we're doing that, we're gonna multitask by drinking."

"We downing some beers?"

"Hell no. We're busting out the liquor."

"Oh shit. I'm down. If we're trying to go the extra mile, I got some powder."

"Bust that shit out."

"Damn, this dinner's really got you bent, huh?"

That was why he was my best friend. Miroku always knew how to read me.

"Let's see, I have to interact with Sesshomaru...the wolf will be there...and now, Rin tells me she's found our fifth roommate."

"Oh?"

He perked up at this information.

"Yeah, some chick."

"Another chick? Do tell."

"Nothing to tell."

"Come on, Man. You gotta give me some kind of details."

I lit the blunt as he opened a bottle of rum, pouring a tray of shots. As he handed me one, I handed him the blunt.

"All I know is she's young and just moved here."

"Woah, how young?"

I rolled my eyes. At least he was thinking straight enough to ask.

"I dunno. Rin said she's like twenty."

"That's it? That's all you know?"

"That's all Rin told me. She wouldn't even say where she found the chick. It's a surprise."

"Sounds like Rin."

"Yeah."

I rolled my eyes and watched as he set up a few lines for each of us. Once we were properly faded, we went downstairs and out the back. On time, the other three walked up together. Once we'd joined up, we all walked around front. Lenny was waiting with a limo in the driveway.

"So, how formal of a dinner is this?"

I laughed.

"On the outside? Queen of England level. In reality? Typical dinner with your typical grumpy dad and the typical over-active, super mom."

Sango laughed and we piled into the limo. Once we arrived, they all started freaking out. Once they were over the shock of the absolute beast of a house that stood before them, we walked to the front door.

"Who lives here?"

I laughed.

"Told you, royalty status, but only on the outside."

I rang the doorbell. They gave me weird looks and I shrugged.

"It makes the butler feel good."

As if on cue, the door opened-revealing a short, round man with a balding head and thin mustache (both of which were grey).

"Myouga, you old flea!"

He gave me a wary look and sighed.

"Master Inuyasha. Come in."

He stepped aside and we walked in. Myouga led Roku and the new roomies to the dining room, while I decided to break off and find Rinnie, who I knew would be furiously sweating in the kitchen as she obsessed over the final touches and making everything perfect. I found her exactly where I thought I would. She smiled when she saw me and ran up to give me a big hug.

"Yashie!"

I laughed.

"Hey, Rinnie."

"Everyone here?"

"Yupp. Myouga has them in the dining room. He's probably boring them with his stories."

She laughed and handed me a couple trays.

"You know the rules."

"If you're gonna be in the kitchen, make yourself useful. Yes ma'am, I remember."

She smiled.

"Good. Set those on the server's cart and take the drink tray out."

"Aye aye, Cap'n."

She rolled her eyes and I did as she told me. As I walked into the dining room, I found everyone huddled around the fireplace at the back of the room. They were laughing as Myouga went on one of his rampages. I set the tray down and smirked.

"Myouga, you know it's not good for your health to get this upset."

"My health is just fine, thank you!"

"You sure? Your face is awfully red."

"You kids are what's bad for my health."

He huffed and wobbled off to grumble and clean. I joined my new roomies in idle conversation while we waited for the food. We were having a good time and all laughing when it happened...I heard his voice.

"Hello, little brother."

I cringed and slowly turned around. There he stood in all his glory, or so he thought. I couldn't stop the low growl that came out.

"Sesshomaru."

"I'm glad you could join us tonight."

"I didn't do it for you and you damn well know it. I did it for Rinnie."

"Nevertheless, I'm still glad you came. In fact, I'm glad that all of you could make it."

I turned and noticed the group of people behind me. Roku knew Sesshomaru, of course, but that didn't mean he was any less nervous when he was unlucky enough to be around him. As for the other three, I knew they weren't ready. For the first time since I'd met her, Ayame looked terrified. Her eyes were wide and her hands were slightly shaking. Sango was in demon-hunter mode. I could see the gears turning in her head as her stance became defensive. Hell, even Kouga was silent and looked anywhere but at my brother. Heh...glad to see someone finally shut that flea-bag up...even if it was the Overlord. The tension in the air was thick enough that you could cut it with a knife. Luckily, Rin came in to save the day.

"Okay! Dinner is almost ready. Who's hungry?"

The four people behind me immediately raised their hands, silently walked to the table, and sat down. Rin sighed and looked at her husband.

"We talked about this."

"I know."

"You promised."

"I'm sorry."

"Be nice."

"I promise."

"Yashie, will you help me?"

"Of course."

"Any reason to get away from him."

For once, me and the beast were in full agreement. I followed her into the kitchen and started grabbing platters. Once dinner was served and we'd all started eating, Sesshomaru spoke again.

"I'd like to apologize for my brother's manners, or lack thereof. We've not even been properly introduced. I'm Sesshomaru Takahashi."

"Takahashi? As in Takahashi Inc?!"

"Yes. You've heard of our company?"

"Who hasn't?"

Sango shot me a look.

"What?"

"You didn't tell us that your 'particular company' was Takahashi Inc."

"He wouldn't. He refuses to accept his part in our father's company."

"Dude, what the hell? You wouldn't even need us."

"I don't want any part in it and I'd rather not talk about why."

"That's crazy."

I could tell she was shocked, but she dropped it. I glared at Sesshomaru. Damn him for bringing up that blasted company every chance he got. Some days I wished I could take part of that stupid place, just to humble him a little. Everyone introduced themselves and, in typical Sesshomaru fashion, he wasted no time-immediately grilling them on every aspect of their lives. Finally, once he was satisfied, everything settled and the dinner wrapped up in relative silence and peace. After dinner, Sesshomaru excused himself.

"I've enjoyed meeting you all and I hope to be able to get to know you all better. Unfortunately, that will have to happen at a later date. I have an important conference call with a client. So, please excuse me."

After he'd left, we all went to the patio to have some drinks. Now, that the Overlord was gone and the tension had eased, everyone was relaxed and having a good time just enjoying each other's company. Sango and Ayame were sitting on the edge of the pool with their feet dipped in. Miroku and Kouga were currently duking it out in air hockey, and I was sitting at the poolside bar with Rinnie. Suddenly, a thought occurred to me.

"Rinnie?"

"Hmm?"

"I thought you said you found the last roommate?"

"I did."

"Yet, there is no last roommate."

"Sadly, she couldn't join us for dinner, but she actually just texted saying she's on her way."

"Oh, ok. So, who is this chick anyway?"

"I told you-it's a surprise."

"Rinnie, come on! Just tell me."

"I can't."

"Why?"

"Truth is..."

She trailed off as her phone buzzed. Looking at it, she cracked a smile.

"Truth is, it doesn't matter. She's here."

"Oh?"

I looked up to see Myouga walk in...followed by what could only be a ghost. I was frozen, unable to speak or move or even think. How was she here? How was she standing there? How was she back? I heard Rin say something, but it sounded like she was a million miles away...even though she was right next to me. I wanted to speak...to demand answers. I wanted to go to her...to wrap her in my arms one more time. As it were, I didn't have to move because she was coming closer. I watched her, watching her every movement. She didn't move as confidently as she once did, but she was just as graceful as ever...seeming to float over the ground, rather than walking on it. Her hair was a little shorter...and her eyes were a little lighter...but it was her. She was right there...right in front of me. Finally my mouth moved, forming only one silent word.

"Kikyo..."

She turned and gave me a confused look.

"I'm sorry?"

That look felt like an arrow to the heart. How could she not know me? How could she not remember? I couldn't stop myself from reaching out to her...from repeating her name-though my voice was still barely more than a whisper. My eyes remained fixed on hers.

"Kikyo..."

"Who? I'm Kagome."

My hand froze and the fog in my mind started to clear. I stared at her, unable to comprehend what was happening in front of me.

"Ka. Go. Me. Kagome. That's my name."

That did the trick and broke me from my trance. I blinked a few times and observed the stranger in front of me. She was right...she definitely wasn't her. I jerked my hand back as if it had been burned and immediately took a few steps back. I couldn't explain it, but I felt as if I needed to put as much space between me and this clone as possible. I looked around, feeling as if the walls were closing in on me. My eyes landed on Rinnie. She was watching me, cautious...as if I were a wild animal...as if I might lose my hold on the beast. Hell...she might be right to worry. He was stunned at first, but now I could feel him starting to rage. I had to get away...away from this house...away from this woman...away from the memories chaotically swirling around my brain. Without a word, I turned and ran out of the house. My mind was focused on only one thought: I have to get away. So, that's what I did. Once I was outside in the cool night air, I decided I didn't wanna wait on a car...I couldn't chance another meeting with her...no, not her...someone else...someone with her face. I needed a good run, so I sprinted until my lungs felt like they might explode. After a bottle of water, I called a cab. Once the driver had been paid and left, I went inside...slamming the door behind me. For a long while, I just stood there staring at the door. I tried to focus...to make my brain and body listen to me...but I couldn't. After a while, I found myself locking the door...as if I were afraid she would come walking through it at any moment. I knew that was silly...but I couldn't stop it. As the shock started to wear off...I felt more exhausted than I could ever say...but I didn't think I would ever be able to sleep again. Instead, I went to my room, grabbed a bottle of vodka, curled up in a corner, and started chugging...then I rolled a blunt. Just as I had finished, Roku came waltzing through the door.

"You could knock, ya know."

"When have you ever known me to knock, Man?"

"Fair point."

I leaned back against my wall and lit the blunt. I said nothing...because what could I say? After a while, I looked up to see Miroku leaning against the post at the foot of my bed.

"You gonna stare at me like a puppy all night or you gonna come hit this blunt?"

He walked over, sat in the chair next to me, and took the blunt from me...still watching me. In fact, he hadn't taken his eyes off me since he walked in. I sighed.

"I'm good, dude."

"Are you?"

"The beast is firmly locked away."

"Good. Rin was worried about that."

I scoffed.

"And you weren't?"

"Not really. I've seen you rage...that wasn't it."

"No?"

"No."

"Then what was it?"

"Pure terror and absolute panic."

He knew me entirely too well.

"You got me."

"That was never a question."

"Rinnie send you?"

"Yes and no."

"Yes and no?"

"Rin said the words...but I was already on it."

"Thanks."

"Anytime. Now, are you good?"

"I already said I was."

"No. You said the beast was good."

"We're pretty much the same person, Dude."

"You can't bullshit a bullshitter, Yash. Are you good?"

I sighed.

"Honestly?"

"Honestly."

"I don't know."

He simply nodded and leaned back in the chair, saying nothing. I could always count on him...he knew what I needed before I did...and he was always there. I took a long chug from my vodka bottle and passed it over. He took a swig and handed it back.

"So, how we gonna handle this, Man?"

"I'm not handling shit."

He rolled his eyes.

"That, I can clearly see. So, you wanna go out and forget about it? Or we could just stay here and get faded. Or...you could do what you always do and sulk by yourself, locked in your room. You tell me, Man. How are we handling this?"

"I do not sulk."

He raised his eyebrow and I sighed.

"Fine...maybe I sulk."

"Ain't no maybe to it, buddy."

"Yeah yeah. I don't know what to do, Man."

"Talk to me."

He could see that I was getting worked up again.

"If I'm being honest, the thought of walking out that door is terrifying, dude."

"So, house party it is. Party of one or should I tell Sango I'll be home late?"

I rolled my eyes.

"That would make her day."

"Ouch, Man."

I ran a hand through my hair and growled. Truth was, I wanted to be alone...or as he said 'sulk in my room'. Still, that was probably not the smartest plan...and it hadn't worked so far. I needed to get her...and her clone...as far out of my mind as possible.

"Fuck it. Time to get faded."

"That's what I'm talking about! What's on the menu?"

We started plotting ways to get fucked up and after a while, we did what we set out to do.

*The Next Afternoon*

I groaned and rolled over as the sun hit my eyes. My head was pounding...my mouth was drier than a desert...my body ached...existence was pain...which usually meant I was hella hungover. As I slowly sat up, I realized that made sense, considering just how fucked up Roku and I had got the night before. Speaking of, I noticed him sprawled out, laying on the small couch in the corner of my room. I smiled and shook my head...even in his fucked up state of mind and with me passed out...he was still there for me. That was why he would always be my best friend...hell, he was more like my brother at this point. He'd been more of a brother to me than Sesshomaru had ever been...that was for sure. I looked over at my clock and sighed...noon already. I stood and stumbled to the bathroom in search of pain relievers. When I returned, Roku was sitting up.

"You look how I feel, Man."

"Morning to you too, Sunshine."

"Sleep good?"

"Like a baby on hella drugs."

He laughed and stuck his hand out. I just shook my head and handed him the bottle of pills and a water bottle from the minifridge.

"Do you also feel like someone dropped a dump-truck on your head?"

"That...or a two-ton safe...all cartoon style."

We laughed and sat there for a few more minutes, trying to get a grip on the pounding and swirling of our heads. After we managed to do so, we went downstairs and I made breakfast. Once we were done eating, Miroku went back to his place to shower. I sighed and decided a quiet day on the couch sounded perfect to me. Just as I layed down, my phone buzzed. I debated not even bothering, but then it buzzed again. I sighed and picked it up, not even needing to look at the name on the text. I knew exactly who it was.

"Hey...

Just thought I'd check on you..."

"All good."

"Roku find you last night?"

"Yupp."

"Everything ok?"

"No beast mode."

"Yashie..."

I didn't respond. I knew she was feeling me out...trying to gage my thoughts and emotions. I hated the rare occasions that Rin and I disagreed...but what could I say? I sighed as another text came through.

"You're mad."

"Not mad."

"Yes you are...at me."

"No."

"You know you can't lie to me."

"Not mad. Hurt. Betrayed. Freaked the fuck out. Not mad."

"Yashie...it wasn't my fault."

"No? Was it not you that found her?"

"Yashie...you know I didn't know."

"Do I?"

"You seriously think I would do that...on purpose?"

"I don't know what to think."

"Go to Hell, Inuyasha."

I sighed and threw my phone on the couch. I hadn't meant to piss her off...I didn't want to argue with her. Truthfully, I knew Rin wouldn't do it on purpose...she couldn't have known. Still...I just needed someone to blame in that moment. I knew I'd fucked up...and I wanted to call her...but I knew that would be a bad idea and wouldn't end very well. So, instead, I lit a blunt and turned on my stereo. Today was not shaping up to be a good day. After a while, I dozed off. When I woke up, Roku was sitting in a chair across from me, watching me.

"Creeper much?"

"What else could I do?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe wake me up?"

He laughed.

"Yeah right. I don't have a death wish, Man."

"So, what is it that has you here waiting for me to wake up all stalker style anyway?"

I sat up and lit another blunt, waiting for his answer...which never came. I looked up to see him staring at the floor.

"Hello? Earth to Roku...you coming in, Dude?"

He sighed and looked up.

"Rin called me."

I sighed and leaned back on the couch, staring at the ceiling. I knew it was bad if Rinnie had called Roku. I kept my eyes trained on the ceiling as I hit the blunt again.

"Oh? What did she have to say?"

"Yash..."

I did sit up then...and glared at him.

"Look, I get it, Man."

"Do you?"

It was his turn to glare at me.

"Of course, I do! If you remember, I was there, too. Right by your side through it all...just like I always have been. So has Rin, by the way. How many times has she saved your ass? Who kept you going when you wanted to give up? You can sulk for the rest of time if you want to, Man. What you can't do is take it out on everyone around you. Did you really insinuate that Rin might have brought that girl there on purpose?"

"Not in so many words."

"So, you did. Ya know, I wanted to believe she misunderstood, but no. She was right...just you being you...and making others pay."

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

"It means you're a massive dick."

"Fuck you, Dude."

"No, my friend, fuck you. As your best friend, it's my job to tell you the hard truths...no matter what. Typically, you're just a standard everyday asshole. That's not so bad. Hell, it's why I became your friend. But when you're sulking over the past...you're a massive dick. As your family, it's our job to care about you...even when you make it hell for us."

"I have the right to sulk. None of you know what that shit was like...not for me. Besides, what would you know about family and their jobs anyway?"

"I know you didn't just say that shit to me, Man."

"What if I did?"

"What the fuck is wrong with you, Man?! All of a sudden, you wanna throw that shit back in my face? I don't know about family? What about you guys? You're not my family? I'm not yours? Fine. But Rin is...so, call your sister. Oh, and by the way...it's been nine years. It wouldn't kill you to grow up and get the fuck over yourself. You owe that girl an apology, too."

With that, he turned and walked out. He was right...what the fuck was wrong with me? In a single day, I had managed to hurt the two most important people in my life...all because I couldn't deal with my own shit. I sighed and searched the cushions for my phone. I should call her...but what could I even say? For a long while, I just stared at the device in my hand. Finally, I sighed and decided to just bite the bullet. I hit the button and waited. Would she even answer?

"I'm going to kill Miroku."

"Rinnie..."

"No...no. You don't get to call me that. You don't get to make me melt and forgive you. Not this time."

"Rin, I owe you an apology."

"You're damn right you do!"

"I had no right to say that to you. I know you wouldn't do that if you had known."

"Of course, I wouldn't."

"So, I'm sorry."

"Seems to be the theme of the day for you, Inuyasha."

She hung up on me...Rinnie...actually hung up on me. I sighed and plopped down on my couch. She wasn't wrong...that did seem to be the theme of the day for me...owing everyone an apology...pissing off everyone that tried to be there for me. I needed to get away...I needed space...room to breathe...without someone breathing down my neck. I stared at the phone and considered my options. Finally, I made a decision...probably the worst one I could have made...but I didn't care. I made my call, grabbed my keys, and walked to the door. Suddenly, a thought nagged at the back of my mind...they would worry if I just disappeared, no matter how upset they were with me. I thought about leaving a note and telling them where I'd gone...but I knew that would just make them worry more. So, instead...I called Sango.

"Hello?"

"Hey...Sango..."

"Inuyasha?"

"Yeah...what are you up to?"

"Not much. What's up?"

"I need a favor."

"What kind of favor?"

"I need you to give Roku a message for me."

"Listen, guy...I'm not trying to get in the middle of all that."

"So, he told you, huh?"

"He said y'all had an argument. He didn't go into details and I didn't ask."

"I understand. If it helps, the message has nothing to do with that."

She sighed.

"I have a feeling I'm going to regret this...but, fine. What is the message?"

"I just need you to tell him that I went to my buddy's house for a few days. I just need some space and Mora has a spare room. Don't want him to worry is all."

"Alright, I got it. I'll let him know."

"Thanks, Sango."

With that, I hung up and left. All I needed was a few days...a little space.

"Whatever helps you sleep, Liar."

I sighed, knowing he was right. I may hate that inner voice...but that didn't mean he was always wrong.

(Author's Note: Ok...so there we have it-the first chapter! What did you guys think? Are you interested in more? Should I keep this going or nahh? Leave me a review and let me know! Also...I noticed a few things that I wanted to explain...

1) 10 Demon Years = 1 Human Year...I wanted to stick to the anime aging a little more, but they didn't make it very clear on how that all worked, so I just went with a basic system...like dog years, as Rin called them (jokingly, of course). I know 1 human year typically equals 7 dog years, but I didn't wanna do that math...so I made it easy and made it 10. I feel like demons should be older than humans...they should live longer...kinda like elves or fairies and shit. So, there ya go...that's why I did that.

2) "The Beast"...or Inuyasha's "inner voice"...is his demonic side. I feel like that power struggle isn't represented in fanfic enough...so I wanted to incorporate it into this story. It makes sense that his demon side would be harder to control...and it would take over his human side occasionally. For this story, when his demon side takes over, well...you'll find out about that later. Let's just say it usually isn't pretty.

3) This is a Kagome x Inuyasha fic...but I wanted that relationship and that past between him and Kikyo to be present in the story. It's an important part of his character. We'll explore their relationship more later...but for now, I just wanted to let everyone know that their relationship would be a little different in this story than most others. For instance, Kikyo is not portrayed as a bitch in this story. Also, typically in my stories (and most others that I have read)...Inuyasha deals with any Kikyo drama by just ignoring it, getting high and/or drunk and hooking up with chicks all the time to avoid it, or some other such behavior. In this story...his approach/reactions is a little less "girlfriend cheated or broke up with me so now I'm a wild child"...it's more "some tragic shit went down and I have PTSD". Just keep that in mind when Inuyasha seems out of character in regards to Kikyo (like when he meets Kagome and Miroku finds him in a corner in his room, for example). I feel like the relationship they had in the anime was much more traumatic and triggering than most fics make it out to be and I wanted that sorta feel to this story.

So, yeahhhhh...I think that's everything for now. Like I said, leave me a review and let me know what you thought!
