Mimi saw the way Zac hugged Evie the night in the moon pool that Evie lost her tail to the dragon. When Evie realized what had happened, she turned around to hug him and he immediately reciprocated, wrapping his arms around her and holding her tight as she cried on his shoulder. He didn't even seem angry with her for trying to interfere with his plan. He didn't say a word about it. Just comforted her over the tail she had just lost.

Then he had to lead her out of the moon pool and back to the surface. He took her hand and swam up as fast as he could, not wanting her to run out of air. Then there was the journey back to the mainland, no one had brought a boat on the way there, seeing as they all had tails at that point, so Zac took Evie back across the water. He had her wrap her arms around his torso, and he stayed upright best he could, keeping his head and shoulders above the water. She rested her head on his shoulder, as he used hist tail and arms to slowly swim backwards towards the shore. Mimi and Odina swam along beside them, and as Mimi watched, she wasn't sure Evie, in her upsetness, was even paying much attention to where they were. She obviously trusted Zac to lead her across safely.

Then there was that time at the cafe where one of their teachers, Ms. Trumble, showed up and when she saw Evie, began making unpleasant comments to her about how maybe she would do better in class if she spent more time studying and less time hanging out at the cafe, quote "working" in her shop. Evie started to get upset and Zac, who was present during the conversation, clearly thought it best Evie leave. He put one arm around her shoulders, took her far hand in his, and sort of pulled her forward to lead her out of the cafe. He was gentle about it though, using no more force than necessary. There was no aggression in the maneuver what so ever, and had Evie tried to pull away, Mimi doubts he would have stopped her.

Then there was that time that they were picking up some things off the floor. Evie apparently didn't realize Zac was bent over behind her and accidentally elbowed him in the eye. He had a black eye for about two weeks after that, and got teased a bit that "his girlfriend beat him up," but he didn't seem to mind. Evie kept apologizing, but he clearly had already forgiven her the first time.

Zac was always so caring and understanding towards Evie, and her own previous boyfriend, Chris (whom she was no longer with as he went off to school and was going to be gone for most of four years) was always like that towards her to, and Mimi supposes that's how boyfriends should be, but how come it didn't seem like that was the case with Elliot, the guy she has been seeing recently? Well, ok sometimes he could be really nice and thoughtful, but other times he could get angry really easily and over the smallest of things, and she was..having a hard time feeling fully comfortable around him, but maybe the two of them just didn't know each other well enough yet.

"Hey, Mimi want to hang out tonight?" Elliot had just approached the table she was sitting at in the cafe, thinking about all of this, as she waited for Zac who was meeting her there. They were going to grab some food and go for a swim, and then maybe head back to his place.

"Ummm...I actually already have plans for tonight."

"Well, cancel them."

"But...I have plans with Zac and I already cancelled on him last week to go to the movie with you."

"Well, cancel again. I'm your boyfriend, hanging out with me is important, isn't it?"

"I guess..."

"Good, and I have this really romantic date planned, so just cancel your plans for tonight, Ok?" It was technically said as a request, but his tone made it sound more like a command. Plus he had grabbed her hand and was now holding it in a way that was seemingly sweet, but yet something felt... off about it.

"Can't we have the date tomorrow?" She suggested.

"Mimi...I made a picnic and everything, and it tastes better fresh. Your brother will understand, just tell him the two of us need to spend time together."

Yes, Elliot knew Zac was Mimi's brother, he didn't know the full story though, as in the mermaid part. Zac and Mimi simply said that they were adopted into different families when they were young and have since found each other.

"Ok..." Mimi reluctantly agreed.

"Great! Wait here, I will be back in 30 minutes." Elliot let go of her hand, kissed her on the head, and headed out of the cafe. At that same moment, Zac walked in.

"Hey, sis!"

"Hey, Zac...umm listen, I'm going to need to cancel our plans."

"Again? You cancelled on me last week."

"I know, but Elliot wants to hang out, and he apparently has this really romantic date planed..."

"A date, with Elliot? That's the same reason you cancelled last week." Zac was sounding irritated. "Mimi I feel like you're blowing me off."

"No, I'm not blowing you off, Elliot just feels like him and I need to spend some time together."

"Well can't that happen tomorrow or something? You and I already made plans to hang out tonight."

"I suppose, but he made a picnic and stuff, and I already agreed to go on the date with him..."

"Yeah whatever, I'll see you around, ok." Zac said as he turned to leave.

"Zac! I'm really sorry. We can hang out some other time."

"Yeah, sure." He said, though he didn't look happy as he exited the cafe.

When Elliot returned, Mimi was still sitting at her table, trying to think of a way to make things up to Zac.

"You ready?" Elliot asked, picnic basket in hand.

"Yep." Mimi responded, trying to keep a positive attitude, despite her brother being mad at her. She got up from the table and linked hands with Elliot.

"So where are we going?" she asked, as they stepped outside the cafe and into the evening air.

"We are heading to the beach to watch the sunset."

"Great!" She said through a fake smile. Last time she had a date on the beach (with Chris), it was a bit awkward. She kept having to find excuses to not go in the water. Not to mention there were little kids with squirt guns running around, ready to accidentally spray her at any moment, so needless to say she was not thrilled about another date on the beach.

When they arrived at the beach, things were actually better than Mimi expected. There wasn't a ton of people on the beach so they were able to have their space, away from any squirt guns, guys shaking out their hair, or any other possibility of getting wet. They were able to lay their towels down on the sand and have a nice picnic together, watching the sunset.

"I guess we should pack up." Mimi said, once the sun had left the sky. She didn't want to stick around too long and end up with Elliot getting ideas about going for a night time swim.

"Yeah I guess, unless you want to go in the water for a bit. The beach is almost deserted, in a little bit we might have the place to ourselves."

There it is. Going in the water. Why do land people like going in the water so much?

"Umm, I don't have my swim suit with me."

"So, you can go in in your clothes, we can take you home right afterwards to change. It's getting late so it's not like there is much else we are going to be doing."

"I'd still rather not."

"Come on, people go in the water all the time in their clothes."

Mimi shook her head. "No..." she tried to say politely as she could.

"Fine! Whatever, let's just back up then." Mimi watched as Elliot started to angrily back the picnic basket. This is one of those things she was sort of thinking about earlier, how he gets mad so easily.

Mimi decided to ignore his anger and began helping pack the picnic basket. They then walked off the beach in silence. When they hit the metal walk way that lead up to the cafe and home, Elliot turned to her.

"I'll walk you home." he said, as if nothing had happened between them. Was he still angry? Was he over it? Mimi wasn't sure.

"Ok," she said. "Thanks."

He grabbed her hand and they continued walking. "So what do you want to do this weekend?" He asked.

"Uh, well, I was actually thinking I should hang out with Zac at some point, to make up for cancelling on him twice."

"What? It's the weekend. It's the only time I'm off school and can spend all day with you."

"The weekend is when Zac is off too, and I have to hang out with him at some point. He was upset today when I cancelled our plans again. He feels like I'm blowing him off."

"Ok so, you'd rather I feel like your blowing me off?"

"What? No!" Mimi was surprised at the accusation. "I don't want anyone to feel that way. Elliot I cancelled my plans with Zac both last week and tonight so that I could hang out with you, don't you think it's time for me to hang out with him?"

"Yeah...sure, whatever, let's just get you home." Elliot picked up his pace and started tugging at her hand, forcing her to pick up.

"Hey stop!" Mimi cried. She tried to let go of his hand, but he had hers held tight and didn't budge.

"Stop, you're hurting me!"

"Oh really? That hurts? Well is this any better?" Elliot suddenly slammed her into the metal railing of the walkway, pinning her to it. "How about this!?" He then threw her to the ground.

Mimi didn't know what to do. Unfortunately no one was around to help, the place was deserted under the dusky evening sky, and she couldn't very well use her powers without Elliot noticing.

"You're hanging out with me this weekend." Elliot said, as he stood towering over her.

Back in his Bungalow, sitting on his couch, Zac was having a vision. Mimi being slammed against a railing and then thrown to the ground, Elliot standing over her. Zac leaped off the couch and ran out the door.

"Okay, okay." Mimi said just to please Elliot, as she started to stand up from the ground. A second after she was back on her feet though, she turned and took off running. Elliot tried to grab her, but didn't succeed. Mimi ran as fast as she could, where she wasn't sure. She just had to get away from Elliot, who was now chasing after her. Maybe there was someone at the cafe who could help, if she could get there before Elliot caught up to her.

When she turned the corner, towards the cafe, she saw Zac also running, in her direction.

"Zac!" She cried, she headed straight to him.

"Mimi, what's going on?" He asked.

Mimi flung herself into a hug around him and began talking frantically. "I know you're mad at me for cancelling our plans, but you gotta help me, please. Elliot just threw me into the walkway railing and then to the ground, and now he is after me..."

"Hey, hey, it's ok, I'm here." He wrapped his arms around her. "I had a vision of what was happening, that's why I came." Mimi relaxed into Zac's arms, knowing that he had come to help her.

At that moment Elliot rounded the corner. Mimi tightened her grip around Zac's torso and he reciprocated, tightening his grip around her as well.

Elliot started to slow down when he saw Zac...and then began acting normal, or at least trying to.

"Mimi...why did you run off like that?" He asked, as if he didn't know.

"Because you shoved her into a railing and then to the ground!" Zac responded, not even giving Mimi a chance to. His sister didn't need to be dealing with this jerk.

"What? No I didn't. Seriously Mimi I know we had a fight, but to go lie to your brother about me..."

"It's not a lie." Mimi said, as she clung to Zac, tears forming in her eyes. Zac began to rub her back with one of his hands.

"Look, Mimi, you tripped or something when we started fighting, but I didn't shove you. That's why I came running after you, to see if you were ok."

"She didn't trip!" Zac shouted, his anger rising. How dare this guy try to play innocent and none the less try to tell Mimi that she tripped when he so clearly had abused her. Zac thought he'd probably punch the guy if it wasn't for Mimi desperately clinging to him.

"How do you know? You weren't there."

Well...that was true Zac thought, and it's not like he could explain to Elliot how he saw it.

"Because my sister is not stupid." He said. "She doesn't fall to into a rail and then to the ground, thinking that you shoved her. Come on Mimi, we're going." Zac began to turn around, with Mimi still holding onto him.

"This is ridiculous. Mimi, come here." Elliot reached out to grab her arm, but Zac grabbed Elliot's hand.

"Don't touch her." He said firmly and shoved Elliot's hand out of the way.

"Fine, dude. Whatever." Elliot put his hands up as in surrender and backed away. "Mimi, call me."

"Call? You don't have a phone." Zac whispered after Elliot left.

"I use the phone at Rita's sometimes. I had to give him some number to contact me."

"Oh. Well, come on, let's get out of here."

Zac took Mimi back to his place, where they sat on the couch while Mimi explained what happened.

"So, after I told him that I needed to hang out with you this weekend he started tugging me along by my hand and when I complained that it hurt, he shoved me into the railing and then to the ground."

Zac sat in silence, listening to Mimi. He wasn't sure what to say, but there was one thing he needed to ask. "Mimi, has he hurt you before?"

"No." She shook her head. "This was the first time."

That was a relief for him to hear.

"Alright, well, it doesn't matter. It's still not right and he will probably do it again or something worse. You have to break up with him."

"I know." Mimi said quietly and nodded.

"Also, Mimi," Zac leaned in closer and looked her in the eyes, "You have to be careful who you date, with your mermaid secret and all. If you date the wrong kind of guy, someone who isn't trustworthy or doesn't care about you, and you tell them you're a mermaid or they find out, they could use it against you."

"I know that too, but I didn't know Elliot was like this."

"I know." Zac said understandingly, placing his hand on Mimi's leg.

"I'm really sorry for cancelling our plans the last two weeks."

"Don't worry about it. You can make it up to me tomorrow...after you break up with Elliot. I'll come with you so you're not alone."

"Thanks and thank you...for coming to rescue me today."

"You don't need to thank me. You're my sister, I'd never let anyone hurt you, even if I'm mad at you."

Mimi leaned over and gave Zac a hug, which he reciprocated.

"It's getting late, do you want me to swim back to the pod with you?" Zac asked.

"No, it's alright, but you're right it's late. I probably should get going. I will see you in the morning." Mimi stood up and headed towards the door. "Bye."

"Bye."

In the middle of the night, Zac awoke to a knock on his door. Who could be knocking at this hour? He wondered. Whoever it was knocked again, as Zac sleepily got out of bed and looked out the window. He opened the door when he saw it was Mimi standing there.

"I couldn't sleep." She said.

"Come here," Zac wrapped her in a hug. "You want to talk some more?"

"I don't know if there is much else to talk about." She said honestly. I just couldn't sleep and I thought maybe I'd feel better staying here, if you don't mind?"

"Of course not. Here, you can take the bed, I'll sleep on the couch."

"Actually, I'm more comfortable on the ground. I'm use to sleeping on harder surfaces like rock ledges under the water and stuff."

"Right, well make yourself comfortable. I have some extra blankets in the closet if you need any." He said, still feeling half asleep.

Mimi took a blanket and curled up on the floor, next to Zac's bed. She doubted if she would be able to fall asleep, seeing as she has struggled with falling asleep in legs before, but she thought that maybe she would at least be able relax a bit being with Zac, the only person who currently knew what happened with Elliot. However, it turned out, that with her brother being in the room, she fell asleep almost instantly.

"Good morning." Zac, who was already awake and sitting at his desk said when Mimi began to wake up.

"Morning." Mimi said through a yawn.

"You want some breakfast?" Zac asked, as he headed to his mini fridge. He pulled out a tray of shrimp.

"Sure."

Zac sat on the ground next to Mimi and opened up the shrimp tray and they began eating.

"You know, I was thinking," Mimi began, "what if I call Elliot to break up with him?"

"You could." Zac responded, wondering why he hadn't thought of the idea himself. "Usually it's considered impolite to break up with someone over the phone, but given the circumstances, I think it's appropriate. Elliot is dangerous. You don't need to be going anywhere near him."

Mimi nodded. "What if he gets mad and comes after me?

"Well...we'll all be here to help protect you. Odina, Sierena, David, Evie, Cam, and I. We won't let him mess with you, and if worse comes to worse...we can always report him to the police."

"Ok." Mimi nodded. "Can I borrow your phone?"

Zac pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it to Mimi.

Mimi took a deep breath. "Here it goes."

Zac grabbed Mimi's free hand and held it while she dialed Elliot's number. He sat in silence while Elliot was clearly arguing with her from the other end of the phone. It took Zac everything in him to stop himself from taking the phone out of Mimi's hand and breaking up with Elliot for her. But this was something Mimi needed to do. She needed to stand her ground. Elliot needed to know she could be strong.

"No, Elliot. Goodbye." Mimi hung up the phone and handed it back to Zac, her hand trembling slightly.

"You did the right thing." He said.

"I know."

Zac side hugged her.

"Hey, Zac..." she looked at him. "You're a good brother."

"And you a good sister." He kissed the top of her head.

"So, do you want to go for that swim we were planning for yesterday?"

"Sure." He stood up and Mimi followed. "Race you to the water!" He shouted.

"Zac!" She ran after him and they both dove into the canal and out to the sea.
