A/N: This is a reimagining of an old story I was working on way back in the day. Characters are (mostly) the exact same, but the elimination order and challenges have been reworked.
Episode 1: The Roaring Rabbits
Chris stood on the edge of the dock, awaiting the arrival of these new contestants with his usual sadistic glee. He turned to face the camera, his smile as big and as faked as usual. "Welcome to the latest installment of Total Drama, Total Drama City! This season is going to be even bigger than ever! A bigger cast, bigger drama, bigger challenges, and our biggest setting yet! That is, if you don't count the time we literally traveled the world! This season, twenty-four contestants have agreed to spend their summer in Total Drama City, where the ratings are even higher than the skyscrapers! Now, since twenty-four is such a big number, we're doing things a little different this time around. The contestants don't know it yet, but we're having two premieres instead of one! Today, the first team is arriving and will be competing in an individual challenge, and the second team won't be getting here till next episode. Next week, the second team will be repeating the process. Since there's more campers to get to know, we figured it best if we gave them all some time to shine before the real competition starts. There's our first victim now!"
A stylish looking yacht pulled into the dock, a tall, brunette teenage girl dressed in business clothing standing on the deck. She adjusted her glasses and walked off the yacht. "Hey, Anita!" Chris greeted. Anita wordlessly shook his hand. Anita seemed to be an all business and no play type of person.
"Pleasure to meet you," Anita greeted in a monotone voice as she took her place on the dock, checking her watch as she waited for the next contestant to arrive.
The yacht returned momentarily, an average height teen boy with a copy of The Bible clutched firmly in his left hand. "Gaylon, what's up?" Chris asked as the teen walked off the boat.
"God's wonderful kingdom in Heaven is up! Has your soul been saved yet?" Gaylon asked, his voice dramatic and reminiscent of a televangelist.
"What soul?" Chris asked as he directed Gaylon to Anita.
"Have you heard the good news-"
"Zip it," Anita snapped, tapping her foot on the dock. Gaylon seemed intimidated by her, so he kept quiet.
The yacht returned shortly, a girl sitting on deck criss-crossed. She had a gloomy aura about her as she twirled her plum-colored hair. She was about the same height as Gaylon, maybe a few centimeters shorter. "Jade, how are you?" Chris asked as she disembarked from the boat.
"I feel like crap," she said, sniffling as she joined her competition.
"Maybe the Lord can cure your illness?" Gaylon asked.
"Maybe the Lord can make you fuck off?" Jade clapped back, sneezing.
The yacht returned for the fourth time, an exceedingly average-looking teen boy on the deck this time. "Yo, Ethan, what's up?" Chris greeted.
Ethan seemed to think for a second, before pointing at one of the many skyscrapers that made up the concrete jungle of Total Drama City. "That's up!" Ethan responded, before joining his competition as directed. Only four campers in, and it was already shaping up to be a diverse group.
The yacht made its fifth trip back to the island that housed the city, a girl in what looked like a swimsuit with a denim mini-skirt covering the lower part hopped off. "How's it going, Hilary?" Chris asked.
"It's going great! So glad to be here!" Hilary replied as she dragged her suitcase behind to meet up with the five contestants who got there before her. She waved at all of them, joining the line of arrived competitors as they awaited the sixth contestant.
Shortly after Hilary got to the city, said sixth competitor arrived. He was a tall, blonde haired fellow with a tan that was obviously straight from a bottle. "Hey, Riley!" Chris greeted.
Riley scoffed as he stepped off the boat. "I'm not the first one? That sucks, I wanted the extra airtime. Cut that out!" Riley exclaimed, before he joined the other five.
"We're totally not gonna cut that out," Chris whispered to the camera. Almost instantly, the boat returned. A blonde haired girl clad in clothes that were way to expensive to be wearing in a physical competition like this arrived next. "Liz, how are you?" Chris asked.
"I'm doing amazing! Wow, this city is much less upscale than I imagined. This should be fun!" Liz said, heels clicking as she joined her six peers on the end of the, well, pier.
Continuing with the trend, the eighth contestant arrived almost immediately after. This one had a slightly overweight, short guy on it. He stepped off and adjusted his glasses. "Uh... Hey, Tim." Chris said.
Tim took a look at his competition and scoffed. "Is this what I'm competing against?" he asked as he joined his now annoyed teammates.
Seconds after this, the ninth contestant arrived. She was a very tall girl who wore a tracksuit and had her hair in a black bun. "Serenity, how are you?" Chris asked as Serenity sprinted off the boat.
"I'm doing great, can't wait to beat these losers!" Serenity replied, sprinting to her new competitors.
Like clockwork, the next boat arrived. This one housed a tall and muscular guy in gym clothes. He gave his competitors a genuine smile, which earned smiles back from Liz, Ethan, and Hilary. The other six seemed to all scoff in unison, though. "What's popping, Jack?" Chris asked.
"Oh, nothing much. I can't wait to begin!" Jack said as he ran over to the other nine.
Repeating the process, the eleventh contestant arrived off the boat almost instantly after Jack shook hands with Ethan.
"Hey Carly!" Chris greeted.
Carly was an average height girl of what looked to be mixed descent. She was a bit curvier than the others, but she wasn't overweight by any means. "Hey Chris!" Carly responded as she joined the others. She recognized Tim. "Hey, aren't you-"
"The soon to be top streamer on the internet? Why, yes I am," Tim responded, cutting her off. She seemed disappointed but joined the others.
Soon after, the last boat arrived. "Welcome to the city, Xavier!" Chris exclaimed.
Xavier was tall, muscular, and a generally attractive guy. "Glad to be here," Xavier said. All the girls except for Anita, Serenity, and Jade seemed to be falling head over heels for him already.
"That's all of you... for now!" Chris said as the boat left for the last time. "Welcome to Total Drama City! We're so happy to have all of you!"
"I thought the application form said there would be twenty-four contestants chosen," Carly said.
"There will be twenty-four of you! Now, I christen the twelve of you... The Roaring Rabbits."
Everyone seemed to be confused by Chris's general vagueness and how fast this was going.
"When do we meet the other team?" Ethan asked.
"That's a good question, Ethan! This season, we're mixing things up a bit. Since there's so many of you, we wanted to make sure nobody got lost in the crowd. So, each team is getting its own separate episode to introduce itself. While the twelve of you will compete in the season proper as a team, consider this episode and the next episode a prologue to the real competition. For this first challenge only, you will be competing against the rest of your team!" Chris explained.
"So let me get this straight. We get this episode to ourselves, and the next team gets next episode to themselves?" Anita asked.
"Yep!" Chris replied.
"So I don't get to be in next episode?!" Riley asked, seemingly furious.
"There's always the recap," Chris replied. "Now, this first challenge is a reward challenge. Which means, nobody is going home yet!"
This new development was met by cheers from Jack, Ethan, Liz, Hilary, Xavier, and Carly. The other half of the team did not seem as pleased, however. "Now, let me explain your first challenge. We've scattered pennants with each of your names on them around the city. You have two hours. Whoever collects the most pennants with their name on them in that time wins a luxury spa treatment at the hotel while the other team is competing in their challenge tomorrow. The two hours start... now!"
With that, all twelve competitors were off, running like the wind to find their pennants.
"Oh gosh, I hope I don't fall behind..." Hilary whined as she struggled to keep up.
Confessional: Hilary
"My strategy is to pretend to be all innocent, but still pull a decent amount of weight for my team. I don't want anyone to vote me off because they see me as a threat, nor do I want anyone to vote me off for being deadweight for the team. I'm gonna do my best in this challenge, but I don't plan on actually winning."
From the beginning, Tim and Jade seemed to struggle the most. Jade couldn't seem to find any pennants of her own, though she had already found pennants belonging to almost every one else.
Riley was the first one to discover a pennant with his name on it, but he was quickly trampled by the stampede of his own teammates. Anita took a very analytical approach to the challenge, which proved to be both her biggest strength and weakness. Tim could barely keep up with the rest of the group. Xavier did okay in the challenge, but not amazing either. Ethan did pretty poorly, but Liz made Ethan look like a formidable competitor. Serenity ultimately had the best time with the challenge, as her athleticism and competitive spirit helped her stay motivated.
After the challenge, the contestants all arrived at the spot in which elimination ceremonies were to be held at.
"Welcome, people! Now, as I stated earlier, there is no elimination to be had this week. We've counted all the pennants up, and we've determined a winner! The winner of this reward challenge will receive deluxe accommodations at Playa Des Losers while you wait for the other team to finish up their premiere! And the winner is..." Chris said.
"Me, obviously," Riley said, genuinely believing it despite having only gotten one pennant.
"No. It's Serenity!" Chris announced, causing Serenity to cheer.
"In y'all's faces! I won the challenge!" Serenity exclaimed, bouncing up and down.
Confessional: Xavier
"It's a damn shame that the person who's shaping up to be our biggest asset is also an ass," he said, clearly annoyed by Serenity already.
