The room was dark, it was cold and the only constant sound he could hear was the machines monitoring him.

It couldn't remember a time where it hadn't been there, in the glass cage it called home, it was all it knew, the circular structure, the cold glass, and the constant beeping of machines was all that existed to it.

The hissing sound of a door opening drew its attention, that wasn't true, there was one more thing that it knew existed, the one thing that led it to believe that there was more to the world than its cylindrical home and the machines outside.

"Test subject 27, how are you on this fine evening?"

That was the doctor, it only knew him like this because he had once called himself that during one of his rants, it couldn't speak but it could hear very well, in the moments before the door the doctor came through closed it could always hear strange chirping noises that it didn't recogni

ze.

"Your vitals are good, stability of your DNA seems solid, the adaptive gene seems especially active but not outside expected ranges"

The doctor always said the strangest things, it couldn't understand him most of the time but the doctor seemed pleased with what he said, the doctor was always pleased whenever it went along with his tests, even if some of them weren't all that pleasant for it.

"Now, let us begin the test"

Something fell in front of it, the object was warm and feathery, it felt drawn to the object, almost on instinct it moved, slowly dragging itself towards the object, it heard a chirp coming from the object and it felt curious, was the object what produced the noises it heard when the door opened.

As soon as it touched the object it felt an instinct, it began to surround the object slowly, the chirping sound growing louder until soon it completely surrounded the object, the noise died and a wave of sensations washed over it, the wind on the object's(it's?) wings, the warmth it felt when in the nest, everything the object had experienced soon became a part of it.

"Wonderful! Simply amazing!" The doctor said.

It felt itself twist until it became the object, it tried to fly but couldn't get out of the test tube, suddenly the door opened again, something it had never seen happen, the doctor was the only one who ever entered here, and someone else came running in.

"Hiruko-sama, we're being atta-"

The sound of an explosion drowned the rest, a rock flew from the debris and cracked its test tube.

"Guard the entrances, gather the failed experiments, I must secure the files from project Chimera!"

Another explosion happened and it felt what remained of its test tube shatter, the heat and screams scared it and it decided to follow its instinct, it spread its wings and flew through the newly formed hole on the wall, the ninja too worried about the doctor to stop what they saw as only a bird.

Two Years Later

Akira, that was it, no, he, had named himself, after two years he had traveled far and become much more than the experiment he originally was, after over a week of constant flight he had come upon a man drinking from a river, pale skin and light blue eyes.

Akira had consumed him, as soon as his eyes spotted the man Akira knew what he had to do, the man only saw a bird land near him, he never stood a chance.

Akira ran his hand through his light brown hair, the man he consumed had been a fisherman, parents died of some disease or another years ago, the man had no friends either, instead mostly just keeping to himself.

When Akira took over he was confused, he had no identity or goal, he didn't want to return to the doctor, he wasn't even sure if he could find the doctor again, instead, he decided to travel, his test tube had been his world for so long that he decided to see what lay outside.

So in the past two years he set out to see the world, he had been through most of the continent, elemental nations were what it was called, and seen many things.

As it turned out the countries were at war, from one injured ninja he consumed he learned it was the Third Great Shinobi War, he didn't care about it but it annoyed him that he kept getting ambushed by people thinking he was a spy, the only good side was that he got to practice his abilities.

He found that he could shift any part of his body, hands became razor-sharp blades, and legs were enhanced to let him run fast and jump high, as long as he could imagine it he could shift his body to take its shape.

He also learned that in addition to seeing their memories he also learned people's skills when he consumed them and strengthened his powers with their bodies, he even found out that as long as he consumed someone he could survive almost all damage, proven when he was blown to bits by a squad only to consume one of them to heal and then the rest.

He had become a collector of sorts, any unique abilities or strange artifacts he learned about he acquired, that was what brought him to the Land of Rain, he tracked down the group of bandits being led by Aoi Rokushu, missing-nin of Konoha and current holder of Akira's target, the Raijin no Ken.

Akira was hidden in one of the threes overlooking the bandit's camp, his enhanced senses picking up several signatures walking about and his target in the back, most likely being held by Aoi.

One of the guards moved away from his partner and Akira took the opportunity to strike, he silently fell behind the lone guard and with one move he pierced him through the heart before the guard even hit the ground Akira consumed him and took his shape.

He walked back to his partner and said.

"All clear, let's go back to the boss"

"Sure, let's go" The partner said.

They walked through the camp towards the biggest tent, Akira smirked when he saw the sword hanging from Aoi's back and walked towards him.

"The patrol is done boss, nothing out of the ordinary" Akira's partner said.

"Good" Aoi said. "Go pack up, we need to be out of here before the Anbu catch up to us"

"Don't worry" Akira said. "You won't live to see it"

Akira jabbed forward, grabbing Aoi by the neck and lifting him.

"Shin, what the fuck-" The partner was cut off by a black tendril bursting from Akira and spearing him through the head, killing him instantly.

"Y-You, what are-" Aoi began.

He didn't get to finish because Akira shifted his hands into claws and shredded Aoi's head, once the headless corpse fell on the ground Akira took the blade and examined it carefully with a smile, he was forced to stop when he heard screams from behind.

The blade seemed to fuse into his chest before it disappeared, Akira grinned and his claws gleamed with blood.

"Always more fun to be hand" He said as he dashed towards the bandits and began shredding them to pieces.

A few hours later the Konoha Anbu team that came after the sword found the camp destroyed, the bandits cut in so many pieces that it was hard to even believe they were human in the first place, and Aoi headless in a pool of his own blood.

The Sword of the Thunder God was gone.

This is just an idea that I had that refused to go away, it will work as a series of short stories set in this universe, there are heavy inspirations from the Prototype series in Akira, as I'm sure some of you noticed, though do bear in mind that while he is inspired in Alex Mercer he is his own character.

Not sure when I'll update this but we'll see, I'm also working on another fic but it isn't ready yet.
