Chapter 1: Back to school.
It was like any other day in the Boiling Isles. In the middle of summer, warm and sunny. Amity had attended all her classes that day without interruption. She had been stressed about school ever since coming back from her injury.
She had to catch up on her lessons, especially now, that her professor had informed them that they would soon move on to a more complicated form of Abomination magic.
For some reason, she felt as if something was missing. She couldn't remember what or who was she forgetting about. Her mind was all foggy, it almost… hurt just trying to fill in the information she felt it was missing. Then… she stopped in her tracks, in the middle of the hallway among the lockers.
She looked down at the books she held on her hands, for some reason the books she had before now suddenly turned into those of her favorite fictional series. The Good Witch Azura. Surprised, she looked down at the hallway. The room which was full of life and voices from her peers, suddenly became silent.
Now, there was no one else but her. They vanished. She tried to call for anyone but no sound came out of her lips. She collapsed on her knees, the silence becoming an unnerving static sound that was giving her an intense headache.
But then, a voice pierced through the dissonance. "Hey Amity! Are you alright?!" It was Luz's voice, that sweet voice that she knew very well.
The headache stopped, and Amity stood up, her cheeks were burning, but otherwise, she wasn't in any pain anymore. She looked down at her feet, picking her books back up, brushed her minty hair with one hand and turned around to face Luz with the widest smile she could offer.
"H-hi! Yes, sorry… I…" Her blushing was wiped away once her eyes set at a faceless Luz, making her eyes to grow wide in shock.
"Amity…?" Luz spoke in an unnerving distorted voice and then…
Amity woke up. She didn't scream, she wasn't a kid anymore. Her parents would probably lecture her about it if she did.
She moved up and took a seat on the very edge of the bed and allowed herself a moment to calm down. Arms were still shaking; cold sweat ran down her left cheek. She sighed, closing her eyes and shook her head. Slowly, her heart beat slowed down back to normal.
She assumed this had something to do with her own fear to confess her feelings. If only she knew someone who she could trust in the Oracle Track to make sense of this weird dream.
"What should I do about this…? I wish it was that simple… to just confess." She whispered. "The worst part about this is that I will have to go through my first day back to school all over again…" She threw herself back down on bed, groaning against the pillow.
"Mittens! Breakfast is ready, get your butt downstairs!" Emira called her out from the other side of the door.
"Coming…" She groaned against the bedsheets, not even in the mood to protest against that pet name the twins chose for her.
She took a moment to rest her eyes and fully prepare herself for the stressful day ahead of her. Then she dropped down off bed and began to change into her school uniform. As soon as she got ready, she walked out of her room and head downstairs.
It was just like any other morning; her parents minded their own business while they ate breakfast. As if they weren't really there. She and her siblings were used to it. Gladly, this wasn't one of those days where they're lecturing her about whatever they felt like fixing about her.
She assumed Bosha had not complained about her with her parents. Otherwise, she wouldn't be hearing the end of it right now. To her surprise, when they both stood up from the table, they both smiled and spoke up to her.
"Good luck at school, Amity." They say, almost coordinated, it was… a little bit frightening.
"T-thank you. You have a good day too." She said nervously.
"Your tone, Amity. Speak up." Her mother said, making her to flinch and nod.
"My apologies, mother. You have a good day too." She said, rising her volume just enough.
"That's better." She said, giving her a condescending smile before leaving with her father back to their coven.
When they left, she moved on to help her siblings to clean up the table, wash the dishes and finally… grabbed her books and made her way back down to Hexside.
She had been warned about her Abomination class moving on from Goo Golems and basic Mud Monsters. She wondered what were they going to learn, although she had a vague idea about it from peeking into the next chapters of her books.
Whatever it was, she hoped for the best. While her own ambitions had shifted, her parents expected her to excel at her class.
Just another thing to stress herself about. Other than worrying about her parents finding out that she… befriended a human. Worse… that she wishes to be something more than friendship.
How would she able to look them in the eyes and tell them that she no longer wants join the Emperor's Coven? After what they did to the Owl Lady. Someone that Luz cares deeply for.
"Hey Amity!" A voice brought her back into reality. Amity realized that she had arrived at Hexside. She got lost in her thoughts this whole time.
Her head spun to the left and her eyes locked onto Luz's as she hurried up to her. Her own face acting on their own, as her lips quickly drew a large smile and her cheeks began to burn intensely.
"O-oh hi Luz! Good morning!" She held her books tight onto her chest, her heart was pounding so fast, that she felt as if it would burst through her ribs.
Behind her were the twins, both grinning at each other, witnessing her sister trying her best not make herself any more obvious.
"Good morning to you too! Hey, let me tell you! This weekend, I was cleaning the basement when suddenly…" Amity listened to her, or at least tried to. She was unable to process a single word that came out of Luz's mouth. Her eyes were fixated on Luz's brown eyes and her smile remained as wide, it almost… hurt.
"Fascinating…" She practically blurted out, her voice had a soft and dreamy tone, she was completely lost in admiring every inch of her face.
"I know right? So you wanna hang out at the Owl House after school to check them out? I bet you, they will blow your mind!" Luz said, unaware that Amity had not listened to a single word she said.
"Eh… oh! Yes, of course! Blow my mind! Yeah, sounds like fun! I listened, and it sounds amazing! I'd like to hang out… with you… yes!" She panicked, while trying to fight back the overwhelming heat that was quickly overrunning her face.
"Are you ok?" Luz chuckled, not quite understanding what was happening to Amity, but just enough to tell that she was acting weird.
"Ok, she's broken, think it is time for us to make our entrance." Emira whispered at her twin.
"Oh, hey Luz! Good morning!" Edric said, both of them stepping in and both stood up at each side behind Amity, pushing her forward, closer to Luz. Just inches away from each other to make her feel as uncomfortable as possible.
Which they succeeded; their faces had not been this close in a while. So, she was deeply uncomfortable.
"Oh, good morning to you two! Ok, lemme start over. I was cleaning the basement, when suddenly…" Luz began to tell her story once again before getting interrupted.
"Oh, we heard, and it does sounds… FASCINATING." Emira emphasized on the word fascinating to make sure that Amity knew they've been watching her this whole time.
"Yeah, I FEEL, that could indeed be fun." Edric said.
"Great! Do you guys wanna come after school too?" Luz asked politely and oblivious to the secret conversation that the Blights were having.
"Oh, we'd LOVE to, Luz. But unfortunately, we got plans today." Emira grinned back at her twin.
"That's right. We're sorry to CRUSH your invitation. But I'm afraid we might not be able to make in time, perhaps another time?" Edric added.
"Sure! Well, if you guys are free before sunset feel free to… CRASH in." She winked, trying to get in on the joke she didn't quite get. "What about you, Amity?"
"Of course! YES! I… I'll be there!"
"Great! Oops, look at the time, I'm late for class! See ya after school!" Luz rushed up the stairs and into Hexside, leaving the Blights on the entrance.
"You… know…" Amity whispered, her whole face was on fire, her heart was still pounding fast. She quickly turned and then moved her index finger in a circle to summon an abomination from under the twins' feet that quickly grabbed them.
They both gasped in surprise as they didn't expect their sister to freak out this much.
"Did you two read my diary again!?" Amity whispered loudly while the abomination held the twins in front of her.
"Oh, Mittens… we do not need to read your diary at this point." Edric said.
"Your body language is doing a fine job at spelling it out. I'm actually surprised that Luz herself hasn't figured it out." Emira added.
When hearing this, Amity's magic faded out, making the abomination to melt down unto the ground, letting go off her siblings. She stared down at the floor, in a panic. If they knew… then who else was aware of her feelings for Luz? Was Luz herself aware?
"As much as I love watching you make a fool out of yourself. I think it is cruel to just let you struggle with this on your own. So, what's the problem? Why aren't you doing anything about it? Why don't you… y'know? Ask her out?" Emira asked while she and her brother stepped in and moved on behind Amity, each of them placing a hand on her shoulders.
"What?! I… I can't do that… I… don't know how she'll react to it. We're friends… and I fear that if I confess, she might not want to hang out with me anymore… on top of that, I've been mean to Willow… and even if she would even consider to date me. She might not be into me. And probably things would become uncomfortable between us… and…" She rambled without end until she was shut down by Emira shaking her by the shoulders.
"STOP! Stop. Thinking. Just do it."
"It's not that easy!" Amity said, eyes watering up slightly. "You have no idea how difficult it is for me."
"Maybe. But you gotta stop thinking on the consequences and take a leap of faith. After all, the worst thing she could say is no." Edric said.
"May I remind you, she already offered you to go with you to grom as her date. I mean, she thought you didn't want to be rejected by someone else, but that has to mean something, right? Friends don't ask other friends to go to grom." Emira said.
"She said… that's what friends do." Amity pressed her head against the wall and quickly wiped her eyes.
"Oof, that's tough buddy." Edric said.
"No no. I stand by what I said. Luz definitely knew what she was doing. I believe you got more chances than what you think. The only thing keeping you from your goal, is your own insecurity." Emira cupped Amity's face with her hands, rising her head up before wiping a small tear on the left side of her cheek.
"Well, it's not that simple." Amity protested.
"It is that simple." Edric said. "We'll show you." Then both of them turned around and scanned their surroundings.
"Look at that, perfect timing. Shall we?" Emira asked her twin when they both saw the perfect candidates which they already had an eye for. They both nodded in agreement before calling them out. "Hey you!"
Not long ago these so-called candidates were in the detention track, yet now they are part of the few students at Hexside that were allowed to study at multiple tracks. They stopped before their feet touched the first step up the stairs.
"Are you referring to us?" The girl with brown hair and a fish hook on her ear asked.
"Yes! You. Could we borrow a moment of your time?" Edric asked.
The students looked at each other in confusion before shrugging it off and walking up to them. "Is there something you need?" The guy asked.
"What's a cute girl like you holding those books like that. Allow me to hold them for you." Emira said.
The female student didn't have a chance to react as Emira was too fast in snatching her books from her hands. "Wait… I… ok."
"Exactly, let us do the heavy lifting for you." Edric told the male student while he took his books from his hands, aswell.
"Uh… what's going on?" They both asked.
"Oh, excuse our manners. I'm Emira and this is my brother Edric." Emira introduced themselves before letting Edric to continue.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, what are your names?"
The students looked at each other before politely introducing themselves.
"Well, I'm Jerbo and this is Viney." Jerbo decided to do the talking.
"Ooo, well now that that's out of the way, we were wondering if you'd be up to go on a date with us?" Emira asked.
"Wait… what?" Jerbo asked.
"Are you serious…?" Viney asked with an slight blush drawing on her cheeks.
"Yeah, for real. I think you're cute." Edric told Jerbo.
"And I think you're pretty!" Emira said before leaning up to boop on Viney's nose, making her to blush madly and cover the lower half of her face with both hands. "Boop."
"I… we…" Both of them looked at each other before smiling nervously. "Ok?"
"Splendid. Now, if you'll excuse us just one moment, we got to make sure to check on our little sister before she goes back to class." Edric said and both of them turn around to walk up to Amity.
Both Jerbo and Viney quickly turned around aswell and whispered at each other in a panic.
"What is happening?!" Viney asked, face burning hotly.
"I have no idea… but… I can't seem to be able to resist their overwhelming charm." Jerbo said, staring into the void of his own thoughts.
"I know, right?!"
Meanwhile, the twins walked up to Amity with an smug look on their faces, still holding Viney's and Jerbo's books on their hands.
"You see, that wasn't that hard, wasn't it?" Edric said.
Amity was speechless, she was impressed, but at the same time so upset at them that she held a closed fist.
"Now that you've seen us in action, you can start practicing being more assertive. Stop thinking, just act." Emira rubbed the top of Amity's head, making a mess of her hair, causing the minty haired girl to quickly fix it.
Then both of them took out a foreign object from their pockets; a pair of sunglasses. Making Amity to raise an eyebrow as they put them on their faces.
"What… are you guys doing?"
"Oh, these old things? These are sunglasses." Emira said.
"They were a gift from Luz. According to her, this is how cool people make an exit. Good luck with your relationship issues, sis." Edric teased and both of them turned around to go back to their… dates.
"We apologize, let us make it up to you by escorting you to your classrooms. Now, where should we go on our first date after school?" Emira asked as soon as they met up with them and they lead them up into Hexside. Leaving a very upset but confused Amity.
She pouted so hard that she almost slipped. "Oww… I almost pass out." She whispered to herself as she rubbed her head. Then decided to just go to class.
As she walked down the hallway, she found herself in the same exact spot where she stood by in her dream. There were a few students here and there, but otherwise, it was empty, just like in her dream.
She felt a chill down her spine and tried to shake it off and hurried back to her classroom where everyone had already gathered.
"Good morning, I'm sorry for being late." She politely told her abomination professor, the short man being held by his abomination.
"Oh, Miss Blight, please take a seat. I hope you're feeling better." He said with an smile, allowing her to take a seat.
"Yes, thank you." She said and quickly moved into her desk.
"Now, class. Today we're starting a new chapter into a more advance form of Abomination Magic. We will no longer need of cauldrons for now. So don't bother bringing them to class. But before we begin, I must say, that I'm disappointed in most of your grades. Except yours, Miss Blight, of course." He smiled at Amity who nervously smiled back.
"But since the Education Board has been pressuring me to move on, I have no choice but to do so. Otherwise, I would be forcing you to go through the basics once again."
Most of the class were slightly discouraged by their professor's statement. Even Amity felt bad for them.
"Now. Today… we will be moving onto the next chapter in Abomination Magic; Tulpas."
The class raised up their heads as soon as they heard what the professor said. Amity already knew of Tulpas, but she wasn't sure if she was ready to practice such advanced form of magic.
"Tulpas are quite an exquisite form of Abominations. Unlike what you've created so far, these… are not given a physical form through ingredients. But rather, from the power of your mind." The professor continued.
"In the past, Tulpas were forbidden magic. Capable of shattering our simple understanding of our reality. The mind can only handle so much. It can materialize our desires, our ambitions, and most important of all, our fears and insecurities. So, meddling into such territory must be dealt with the utmost respect. As when we look straight into the abyss, you'll soon learn that the abyss will surely stare back at you…" The professor said in a very ominous tone.
"Exciting, huh?! Well, open your books in chapter 8…" The professor quickly changed his tone into a more gleeful one.
The students were still recovering from the scary introduction , but as soon as they heard to open their books, they followed the professor's instructions and did so.
When Amity opened her book, she began to read about the past history of Tulpa magic. It was frightening, to say the least. It kinda reminded her of Grom, and wondered if the creature was in fact a result of someone's imagination gone wrong…
End of Chapter 01.
Notes: Hi and thank you for stopping by and reading my fic! I know the show eventually will render this fic obsolete, but I just couldn't resist writing some Lumity stuff because I want season 2 dammit!
So yeah, not sure how long this fic is going to be. I got a general idea of how I want this to end. And I'm already thinking of… more stories. Gah! I became a fan of the Owl House very recently. And I saw the Beta designs and I kinda want to write a Beta AU fic aswell… maybe more.
I saw them and I instantly thought of edgy stuff I could explore with them, cause well… they kinda look edgy. Haha! But anyway, thank you, I hope I caught your attention.
I'm actually taking a break from working on some personal projects which I plan to publish on amazon, hopefully before Halloween. I will be working on Owl House stuff aswell. I've been practicing the style so I can get back to do fanart but… this style is so hard!
It only makes me feel more respect for Dana and her crew for making this show look so good. So as soon as I nail the style I will be working on both fanart and the stories I already mentioned.

Have a nice day and until next time.~
