Kankuro and Naruto supported the newly undead Kazekage into his room and helped him sit on the immaculately made bed. Temari followed them into the room and made eye contact with Naruto, who in turn glanced at Kankuro. Naruto looked like he wanted to say something, but as the look was exchanged between the three of them, Naruto resigned his mouth for once and simply mumbled, "I leave Gaara in your care, ttebayo." The Konoha nin left the room, closing the door behind him.

Temari promptly collapsed onto the bed, clinging to her youngest brother wordlessly. Kankuro sat down on Gaara's other side, wrapping them all together in a hug. Temari sobbed. Her emotions had been pent up the most all this time, with her guilt and relief and hurt all trapped inside and flooding out at once. She had almost lost both brothers, her entire family. The shock of how close their deaths had almost been broke her. And Gaara—how much exactly had he suffered? She was the oldest! She should have protected him! Hurricanes of thoughts and fears and love flooded her eyes and she sobbed and shook. Two tears streaked down Kankuro's face. His little brother was safe. Thanks to Naruto. He thought of Gaara's chipped face and his heart clenched. Never again. He tightened his grip, pulling Temari and Gaara closer. Safer.

Gaara was the only one who didn't cry. He hadn't cried this whole time, from his defeat to his abduction to Shukaku's extraction to his death to his revival. He was still in shock. Gaara had already accepted death long ago. But he could feel Temari's sobs, and Kankuro's embrace, and felt a tug inside his throat.

"Temari, Kankuro."

"I love you."
