Lilly Evans knew her heart. She had lived with this heart everyday of her life. She knew how to deal with her feelings and what her feelings were. But this was new. She had heard the phrase 'I love you' from her mother, father and grandparents and even on occasion her sister. But this was a new type of I love you. It was from a boy. The same boy she had known ever since the age of nine. The words seemed foreign but not forced. Lilly was shocked. Lilly was happy. Her best friend had finally told her what she had wanted to hear since she was fourteen.
Severus Snape had said I love you.
However her feelings still confused her. Or rather her feelings did not confuse her but his did. She loved him as a friend and a lover but did he really mean what she thought he meant. There was silence in between the two for a moment. Before as gracefully as the lanky dark haired could he kissed her. She accepted his kiss and slipped her hand around the back of his neck catching his hair in her fingers. This felt so natural to her. Maybe it was because she had imagined this so many times before while laying in bed at night alone with her thoughts. At first she had been disgusted at herself. He was her best friend and nothing else. However over time she allowed the thoughts but decided to never pursue them unless he did first. He did. He had told her he loved her and he had initiated this first kiss. So she hadn't broken any of the personal guidelines she had set. Oh boy potter would be angry, sad, livid, jealous. Definitely jealous. She knew that her relationship with Sev would have to be kept on the downlow. Even though she very truly wanted to shove this new development in her love life into James Potter's jeering face she knew she would not be able to. If she did that he would most likely take his jealousy and anger out on the person who was always his first target. At one point he would have to figure it out but if Lilly would keep that away from Severus as long as she could she would.
"Lilly I know what you're thinking" Severus said when they broke their kiss. He knew his red-haired angel's mind and how it worked. Lilly Evans would always whenever possible save her loved ones from ill fate. The Slytherian knew exactly what she was thinking. And so Severus Snape, always the more formal of the two, decided to express his thoughts in words because even though he could read her like an open book, she knew and he knew that he was much harder to understand given that his emotions did not show through his face.
"I propose a deal, for the remainder of the year which is one month and four days we do not speak of our relationship to anyone and when we come back after summer we do not hide our love and just deal with the opinions as they come at us. Besides 5th year ends in a little over a month and after that only two more years of school I am certain we can handle"
Lilly mulls over the idea for a moment before setting her mouth into a thin line and looking away. Severus knew that meant she agreed however reluctantly her agreement came.
"I love you" he said again, taking her pale face into his strong hands. She blushed and smiled at him.
"I love you too Sev"
Hearing his childhood nickname made him giggle like a girl and wrap his strong, tall, lanky body around his love. Lilly smiled at held him tights which only made him squeeze her more. The redhead gave a muffed laugh and buried her face into his shoulder. It was very strange that after all these years she had come to love this giant man. He wore size 13 mens shoes but you would never be able to hear him walk down the corridor. He had proper manners and was very kind to strangers he didn't even know. One thing that surprised Lilly as that the giant callused hands that were burnt from making potion after potion at the mere age of fifteen could be so gentle. He was awkward when he walked but so graceful at the same time. Awkwardly Graceful. It was beautiful to her and she loved him for it.
"We should know a couple things… I mean I have never been in a relationship before so I do not entirely know what couples do but maybe later tonight we can meet on our hill and just look at the stars'' He said, rubbing his hand to the nape of his neck. She smiled and nodded before collapsing in his arms like a felled tree. Lilly liked the plan. The two new lovers just stood there in eachothers arms for a few minutes before sharing one last sweet peck of the lips and heading on their way toward their next class.
Lilly sat in Professor Binns history class chewing on the end of her quill, thinking. She would normally be taking pages and pages of notes but today was no normal day. Today she would allow herself to be distracted and think about the past two hours events. In just two hours her best friend had become her partner. Well maybe it was more then two hours. It was definitely the last three years of feelings building up and confusion about love and hormones. However in just two hours that love had become official, at least to them. Lilly doubted she would ever find herself without Severus. She knew many adults of this day and age believed that teenage romance was just that, teenage romance. However Severus Snape and Lily Evans had been best friends for nearly seven years before this, almost eight. The redhead Gryfindoor was ninety-nine percent sure that that meant something.
The two new lovebirds met up at dusk on the great lawn. After casting notice on me , they began their journey to what they called their 'secret hill', a little grassy flower meadow that was hidden by willow trees. Severus knew it was quite romantic and that is the exact reason he wanted to be with Lilly here. Lilly was a suker for romatics and he knew that. Severus didn't have a grand plan or anything he just wanted to spend time in her arms, warm and safe. Lilly ran over to the brown grass by the tulips and threw down their blanket. The redhead flopped down and patted the yellow picnic blanket fabric next to her. He smiled and fell down next to her with a thud. Then she cuddled up next to him and placed her hand on his belly. She mimed cuddling before slipped her hand under his shirt and tickled him. One more thing no one but Lilly knew about him. Severus Snape was ticklish. So very ticklish. Too the point where if she put her hand within three inches of his feet he would squirm and giggle. Another thing no one knew about Severus Snape, he was a compleate girl sometimes, he secretly enjoyed it when lilly did his hair and painted his nails but he was not a homosexual or a cross-dresser he just enjoyed being girly the same and women enjoyed being manly. Dear Merlin if James Potter knew this he would have a field day with this information. Snape laughed uncontrollably as his love tickled him. Lilly soon stopped because she knew Severus would probably wet herself if she tickled him more. The lovers just lay with their faces to the sky basking in each other's presence.
"Sev?"
"Yes Lilly"
"I just want to make sure I am not, you know, weird but did you imagine kissing me sometimes because I imagined kissing you" Lilly said softly wrapping her hand up with his. Only Merlin knows that she imagined much more than just kissing him, she was fifteen she had hormones and she was entitled to a few sexual thoughts.
"I did" He said blushing. Severus was very quiet around everyone else but to Lily he was very straightforward. They both laughed and kept looking at the stars. Little did the two new lovers know, or maybe Lilly had an idea, James Potter was in his common room scheming.
The dark haired boy was not scheming. He was simply 'helping Lilly realize was a snot nosed brat Snape was' as Sirius had said. Sure his plan was a bit evil but it was also good as you know nothing is fudemntly good or evil, there was a grey area. This was, a bad deed with good intentions. He was going to frame Severus. However Lilly would not believe anything but what Severus said so it was going to be hard. James Potter decided that he was going to get a Gryffindor girl that Lily didn't like to use the polyjuice potion and just as the potion ended she would kiss Severus with him thinking it was Lilly and then Lilly would walk up and see the girl kissing Severu and hate him. James Potter still confused himself with this plan because it involved impeccable timing and Snivelius being a potions prodigy would know five minutes before the girl started to change back from lilly's form. The black haired Gryfindoor put his plan to rest and gave up. He cried. He had been pining after the red headed angel for years and hadn't gotten anywhere. He wasn't sure if Snivellus and his valkyrie were in love but he was almost one hundred percent sure that his suspicions were correct and the greasy haired Slytherian was at least trying to woo her. James was not sure and it was really starting to annoy him. Many people, and probably Lily too (much to his annoyance), probably thought he was just a hormonal teenager looking for a good time while he was at school. James Potter loved Lilly Evans. Maybe, yes, it was a tad 'hormonal' but it was still love. The Gryfindor had loved her since first year. The moment James saw her on the Hogwarts Express when he was eleven he had decided that she was the one. The one he would have to love. That is why James Potter, a fifteen year old boy who was frustrated beyond belief, was crying. He heard steps behind him quickly wrapped up his fiasco of emotions before his friends could see him. Instead he turned and saw Lilly, the exact girl he was crying over. The green eyed angel immediately noticed his tears and rushed over to him. Not because she cared about him as a friend but because she believed anyone sad enough to cry should deserve a hug.
"What's wrong?" She asks sitting on the red and gold upholster chair directly across the coffee table from him.
"Nothing" he said looking down and gathering his notebooks. As he stood up to leave in a rush the paper containing his plans to frame Severus and cause Lilly to hate him slipped from his black leather journal and right next to lily's soft brown boots. She, being a quick mind, had enough time to read it before he swooped down to snach it from her view.
"James…." she said, disappointed. She knew he was ridiculous and hated Severus with a unfounded passion but that was going too far. James knew he wouldn't be able to walk away now. He had probably already ruined any chances he had with Lily just by teasing her slimy slytherin friend. This plan he had concocted but was never planning to execute would most likely and probably completely ruin any tattered relationship he had with the girl.
"James this needs to stop and we really have to talk" Lilly said softly with a small sickly frown.
James Potter looked down at his lap and then up and her again. He squinted his eyes trying to prevent the tears. He knew he was asking himself to do an impossible task, keep a straight face without breaking down.
