The usually welcome spring air was beginning to grow chilly, as was the stone that Daphne sat on. She crossed her arms around her stomach, wishing that she'd brought her cloak. It hadn't felt necessary when she'd left, but she also hadn't planned to be waiting so long.

She tugged her pocket watch, a Greengrass family heirloom, from her pocket. Pansy liked to joke that Daphne was so uptight about time management precisely because her parents had given her the watch at such a young age. Daphne preferred to believe that she saw her own time's value and didn't want it to be wasted.

Pansy didn't see it the same way. The pocket watch confirmed that she was more than half an hour late. Daphne shoved the watch back in her pocket with a growl.

Despite her insistence on valuing her time, she couldn't bring herself to move from the spot where she'd chosen to wait. Eventually, Pansy would come, and Daphne wanted to catch her when she did. It wouldn't do if Pansy didn't know the full extent of how angry Daphne was.

She could imagine exactly what Pansy was doing: sidling up to Draco, touching him, kissing him if he would allow it. Daphne shook her head to rid herself of the images. They would only make her angrier, and it wasn't as if she could do anything about them. Pansy was her own person, and she could choose to show affection to whoever she liked. Even if Daphne needed to remind herself of that on a regular basis.

Pansy came into view just as a breeze ruffled Daphne's hair and made her shiver. The other girl was all smiles as she approached, which only fueled Daphne's anger. She stood as Pansy reached her, keeping her arms crossed against her chest.

"Where were you?" Daphne snapped before she could speak.

She didn't actually want to hear the answer, but she couldn't resist asking. She wanted to force Pansy to explain herself even if it wouldn't make a difference to her supposed best friend.

Sure enough, Pansy rolled her eyes like Daphne had expected.

"Don't get your panties in a twist," she said, perching herself daintily on the same stone wall that Daphne had been using as a bench. "Draco and I got carried away, and I forgot about the time. It's not like I left you to fend off hungry wolves by yourself."

Daphne's face warmed, and her hands tightened into fists at her sides.

"Maybe that would make a difference if this was a one off, Pansy, but you can't keep doing this to me. Every single time we agree on a time and place to meet, you're late because you're off snogging Draco. He doesn't even like you! He just uses you!"

Pansy straightened until she was at her full height.

"I wouldn't think you of all people would judge me, Daphne. I have to think about my future. You should be supportive—"

Daphne snorted, cutting off anything else Pansy wanted to say. She turned sharply on her heel and headed back towards the castle, ignoring Pansy's angry shouts behind her.

Daphne heard the dormitory door open and gripped her pillow tighter to her chest. The curtains were firmly closed around her bed, but she knew that wouldn't be enough to deter Pansy if she wanted to talk. Her only hope was that it was another one of her roommates.

But no luck. There were quick footsteps across the room before the curtains behind Daphne were forcefully tugged open. Pansy clambered onto the bed and closed them behind her, blocking out much of the already dim light in the dormitory. Daphne didn't mind that it was dark. It helped hide her embarrassment, but she was tense as Pansy made herself comfortable beside her.

"Seriously, Daphne?" Pansy said with a sigh. "You're going to pout like a toddler because I was a little bit late?"

"A little?" Daphne snapped back. "It was more than half an hour!"

She furiously turned to face Pansy, getting tangled up in the process. The act of freeing herself at least gave her an excuse not to look at the other witch when she shrugged and crossed her arms against her chest.

"That's not that long. I can't help it that I'm busy."

Daphne scoffed. This was why she hadn't wanted to talk to Pansy. There was no use. They would only keep repeating what they'd both said before. Nothing new would be accomplished. They were both too stubborn for that. And it wasn't like Daphne could reveal the real reason she was jealous—Pansy had chosen to spend time with Draco rather than her. Just the idea of saying it out loud made her cheeks warm.

But Pansy didn't see it that way. She wasn't finished.

"I don't get why you're always looking at that stupid pocket watch. Who cares about time that much? Just live your life and stop worrying about when things happen."

It was the final straw. Daphne shot up to a sitting position, throwing the covers so that they inadvertently landed in Pansy's lap. She was seeing red.

"Did you ever think that it's not about the time on the clock but about wanting to spend time with someone I care about? About wanting to spend time with you, Pansy!"

She'd said too much. She knew it the second the words hung between them. For a second, Pansy stared at her in shock, but her expression quickly morphed into a smirk. Daphne's stomach dropped. Why did Pansy have to be so stubborn? Why couldn't she have left her alone?

Pansy leaned closer, and Daphne's breath got stuck in her throat.

"Do you have feelings for me, Daphne?"

Daphne's breathing turned shallow. She narrowed her eyes and shot back, "You think you're so clever, don't you? Like you just know everything about me despite blowing me off all the time."

Pansy rolled her eyes again.

"You're being overdramatic and defensive again. I think I'm clever because I am. You like me."

She said it with such confidence that Daphne wanted the ground to open up and eat her whole so she could escape the look that Pansy was giving her.

"And you were jealous of Draco," Pansy continued, looking gleeful as she leaned closer.

"Shut up," Daphne shot back.

And Pansy did, only to cover Daphne's lips with her own.

Daphne smiled when she saw Pansy hurrying towards her with a smile of her own. Daphne made a show of pulling her pocket watch from her pocket.

Fifteen minutes early. It was a new record. She raised her eyebrows as Pansy reached her.

"You're early," she said, flashing the watch's face at Pansy.

"Am I?" Pansy asked with a smirk. "I guess I couldn't wait."

She leaned in to kiss Daphne before the other girl could respond.
