Author's Note: You all know I just had to come up with a One-Shot of my favorite The Rookie couple after that promo for the finale last night. Here's my take on how that dance happens and what would happen afterward. I hope you all enjoy it, and please review and let me know what you think. This is meant to be a one-shot, but could turn into a story, depending upon what you all think.
Tim's POV
When Tim Bradford seen Lucy Chen walk into the wedding venue wearing that emerald green dress, he could feel a chill wash over him. He couldn't help but think about how beautiful she looked. His former rookie had quickly brought out a side of him that he had almost forgotten he had. She had come in a year ago and quickly broke down all of the walls he tried to put up. He had honestly fooled himself when he tried to convince himself that he wasn't going to miss riding with her. The truth was though, that their relationship had been a tad awkward after she graduated. Neither of them really knew what they were to each other at this point.
While standing there talking to one of the wedding guests, he spotted her out of the corner of his eye. After finishing up his conversation with the man, he turned to walk away, and in his head was being told to say the next six words that would come out of his mouth.
"Hey Chen," – he said, as he seen her turning around to see where the voice came from.
"Save me a dance." – he continued, with a smile crossing his face.
Lucy's POV
Lucy couldn't believe the words that had just escaped her former TO's mouth. Had he really just asked her to save her a dance? Lucy was trying to not look so stupid or dumb towards him, but she wasn't quite sure of what to think. The truth was, that after she had graduated, things had honestly been sort of awkward between the two of them. Neither were quite sure of what to think of the other now. She wanted to think of him as a friend, but deep down she found herself often wondering if that was all she thought of him as. She found herself deeply missing the partnership that they had when she was his rookie. As much as she hated to admit it, she honestly missed his Tim tests too. She hadn't quite told him about the offer to work undercover yet, but she wasn't quite sure she wanted to considering he hadn't been all that supportive of the idea of her being an undercover cop. She figured she would go grab a drink and have a little fun with some friends.
Tim's POV
Later on, as the evening began winding down, Tim knew that the upcoming slow dance would most likely be the last. At first, he had all the intentions of playing it off as a joke, that is until he seen her approaching him.
"Hey." – Lucy said, trying to sound casual.
"Hey, are you having fun?" – he asked her.
"Yeah, you still wanting me to save you that dance?" – she said, with a tad bit of a chuckle.
"I guess. If you're up for it, that is?" – he asked.
"I'm down, I guess" – she said as they heard the song "Come Rain, Come Shine" start playing.
As they made their way out to the dance floor, they quickly found a good place to stop at. He slowly took her hand into one of his, and softly placed the other around her waist, as she did the same. They both slowly started swaying to the sound of the music and soon it was as if they were the only two in the room. About halfway through the song, Lucy found herself moving her head down to lay on his chest.
"Lucy, I…" – he started to say as she cut him off.
"Tim, I got offered the chance to work undercover, and I think I'm going to do it. It's long term, and it's a really good opportunity." – she said, slightly afraid of what he was about to say.
"WOW, that's amazing." – he said, trying to sound happy for her and hide the heartbreak that he deep down felt right now.
"Yeah, it is. I'm sorry, because I didn't mean to interrupt what you were about to say, I just really hadn't gotten the chance to say anything. So, I felt like I should say something." – she replied.
"Yeah, I mean that's amazing. I'm really happy for you. I wasn't going to say anything important really." – he said, lying through his teeth.
"Just stay safe and be careful." – he continued.
"I will and thank you." – she replied, as the song ended and they both headed off of the dance floor.
Lucy's POV
Soon after it was time for them to send Angela and Wesley off, and they all headed home for the night. As she got home, she found herself sitting on the couch thinking back to the dance. She couldn't get his reaction off her mind. No matter how hard he had tried to act happy, she could tell he honestly sounded and looked as if he were sad about it. That wasn't like Tim to sound sad, considering he had acted like he wouldn't miss her when she graduated. She knew there was something off, and the thought wouldn't leave her mind. She was so confused at this point, and she soon found herself grabbing her keys and jumping in her car to take a drive. She had to try to think this through, because she knew it would eat at her if she left for UC like this.
Tim's POV
After the conversation that had taken place between him and Lucy during that dance, Tim honestly just wanted to go home and go to bed. He partially wanted to knock himself out for ever letting himself get so wrapped up in his feelings for Chen. As he laid down for the night, he suddenly heard a knock at the door. She was the last person that he expected to see standing at his door at this hour of the night.
"Hey, is everything okay?" – he found himself asking her.
"Yeah, or no. I don't even really know at this point. I honestly think we should talk." – she said, hoping he would let her in.
"Yeah, probably." – he said, as he motioned for her to come in.
"Ok, so I honestly don't have a clue what is going on between us lately. I played that joke, about having feelings for you. At the time, I was sure that it was a joke, but after tonight I'm not so sure that it was honestly. I'm beginning to think that I was just trying to convince myself that I didn't have those feelings by playing it off as a joke. – she said, rambling on.
"I know that this sounds completely crazy, Tim. I also know that you probably don't feel the same way honestly and I'm not even really sure why I'm telling you this. I just really need to get this out in the open right now." – she continued.
He stood there for a minute trying to contemplate what to say next. He was still not quite sure about telling her how he felt, but this was his chance. He had to take it, didn't he?
"Lucy, I… I have feelings for you too. I think I have for a while actually. I think I tried to convince myself that they weren't real, because I already fell for a cop once and you see how that worked out. I think I was too stupid to admit it to myself, honestly. The truth is, that you're the only person that I've felt this way around since Isabel. That scares me in a way, because I don't want this to get messed up like that did. I know that you're about to go undercover and I don't want to be the person who stands in your way. I also don't really know how this is supposed to work. – he said.
Lucy's POV
Lucy was absolutely shocked; at what he had just said. Without hesitating she knew exactly what she had to do. As she grabbed the cell phone out of her pocket, she unlocked it and clicked on the very familiar contact and it started ringing. As she heard the familiar voice on the other end of the phone, she quickly explained to Harper that she had changed her mind. She didn't think she was quite ready to go undercover just yet. Harper and her talked for a moment, and they quickly hung up. Nyla accepted the apology Lucy provided.
Tim's POV
Tim honestly couldn't believe what Lucy had just told Harper on the phone. She had given up an undercover gig just to see where this would lead them. He didn't want to be the reason that she threw away such an amazing opportunity, but deep down he was happy that she had chosen not to go. Tim could feel a much greater force pulling them together, and it was something that he couldn't stop. Without hesitating, he quickly grabbed her and pulled her into his grasp. Their lips quickly collided and they began kissing very passionately as she leaped into his arms. He carried her through the hallway to the bedroom and they both slammed the door shut as they went through.
Neither of them knew where this would lead, but right now they were together and that was all that mattered at the moment.
