Scotty was never a man to panic about anything, but he was panicking.

Mainly because it was late Christmas Eve and he still hadn't got a gift for Lexie or got any ideas on what to make.

Back when he was on shore leave on Lilo, Scotty had managed to pick up gifts for most of the command crew.

Most of the gifts he had gotten were some form of alcohol, that's what he mostly gave as gifts.

But he had been unable to find something for his young Engineer, no matter how much he looked.

He had been in every shop on that planet and still he found nothing, not one single thing.

And trying to design something wasn't much easier either, he was hoping it would have been.

He didn't know if it was down to Lexie being so young or the fact the he had never bought her a Christmas gift before.

Scotty wanted it to be special, but he just couldn't think of anything. He couldn't give her nothing, that wouldn't be right.

The Scotsman was sat in his office, frantically drawing out ideas on his PADD of what he could possibly make, in a few hours.

Even though he was considered a miracle worker, Scotty didn't know if he was going to be able to make something in time.

There was then a knock at the door, "Come." Scotty called, not bothering to look up to see who had walked in.

"I thought your shift ended several hours ago?" The person asked, Scotty finally looked up to see McCoy standing at his desk.

"It did." "Then why are you still working? And why do you look so god dam panicked?"

Scotty threw his PADD down on the desk and lent back in his chair, "It's Christmas Eve and I don't have a gift for Lexie."

McCoy smiled as he sat down, "Scotty, you are aware that you don't need to get everyone a gift. That's not what it's about."

Scotty nodded, "I know, but I still want to give her something. The lass has been through enough this year."

McCoy nodded, it was well known that Lexie had delt with a lot this year. The main thing being the return of her abusive uncle.

"That's true, anyway speaking of Lexie. Have you told her yet about that whole 'Dad' thing?"

Seriously? McCoy was asking that now? Scotty buried his head in his hands, "No, I haven't told her yet and it can wait."

"You've been saying that for the last month! Are you actually going to tell her or not?" McCoy asked angrily.

Scotty had told him that he was going to talk to Lexie about the fact she had called him dad, but he still hadn't done it.

The Scotsman had put it off several times already and McCoy wasn't sure if he was ever going to do it.

"I will get round to it sooner or later McCoy, promise." Scotty replied as he rubbed his face.

"You said that the last time I asked." McCoy growled, "And it most likely won't be the last time I say it either." Scotty replied.

McCoy just rolled his eyes, "You'll forget and you know it. You have a memory like a god dam sieve for things like this."

Suddenly Scotty lifted his head up from his hands, "What did you just say?" McCoy just stared blankly at him.

"I said you'll for…" "No the last part." "You have a memory like a dam sieve for things like this."

Scotty sprang up from the desk like a jack-in-the-box, making McCoy jump as a result. He had never seen him move so fast.

"McCoy, have I ever told you that you're a bloody genius?!" Scotty cried happily.

"No but you should do it more often, you don't become a Doctor with a cabbage for a brain." McCoy replied smugly.

"I certainly will Doc, thanks." Scotty slapped McCoy on the back before hurrying out the door, leaving McCoy in his office.

McCoy was trying to compute what just happened, what did he say? Did he just give Scotty an idea for a present?

"What's that Scotsman going to do now?" McCoy muttered as he got from his chair, this was going to be interesting.

"As long as he doesn't end up in sick bay at some point tonight, I don't care. He can do whatever he wants, dam crazy man."

McCoy said to himself, he then walked over to the door. He reached over and switched off the light before leaving.

He really wanted to know what Scotty was planning on doing, but he chose to just wait and see.

That was always the best thing to do with anything the Scotsman work.
