Disclaimer: I don't own Assassin's Creed or Detroit: Become Human (as much as I'd like to). I'm also doing some of these based off my first playthrough in Detroit so I do apologise if it's different. I'm also not American, I'm sorry if I'm getting the language wrong- please just let me know. I've tried to take it off the game for some things. Please enjoy!

November 2038—Detroit

The sky threatened snow as it glared upon Detroit, Michigan. People hurried along the streets, pulling their coats tight around them as the wind whipped through their hair. Androids followed behind most of them, barely any falling into step alongside the humans. The city seemed to be painted with blue, for all the android adverts were this colour and androids were being sold everywhere now. But things were slowly changing here in Detroit. Things that would spread quickly across the globe like a virus…

November 6th 10:25am

Vera glanced at her reflection in each of her knives before placing them in her belt. She sat at the desk in the Eastern Motel, scowling at the notes before her.

"You're going to get bald spots if you pull more of your hair out," Ruby, her Assassin partner, said as she wandered out of the bathroom.

Vera didn't look up. "It always grows back," she muttered. Vera stood, gathering up the notes into one pile. "Besides, I think I'm almost there."

"You've made more progress on the Piece of Eden?"

"It's difficult to say exactly, but I think I know who to ask. We'd better find Caleb before I continue."

"Are you sure this is the right place to be talking about this?"

"Caleb has been doing the rounds this morning. We should be in the clear, but just to be sure…" Vera began to place silver discs along the walls connecting their room to the one on their right. Silver shimmers glinted in the lamplight as they were activated. She handed one to Ruby to place on the door when she came back with Caleb.

Ten minutes later, the door opened, and the sun followed Caleb and Ruby as they entered, illuminating her amber hair. He pushed down the hood of his jacket carefully as they stood in a small circle at the foot of the bed.

"Find anything?" Vera asked, searching his face.

Caleb shook his head. "Nothing. But we should still move on today. There's something in the air that I don't like."

Ruby sniffed but said nothing. She nodded to Vera to begin.

"I think I have a lead on the Piece of Eden. It's pretty vague, sources-wise but the only name it goes by is RA9. Not completely sure about that, I think it may just be a made-up name for it. This Piece is supposed to grant freewill to the one who possesses it. It also says here that they can pass it on to anyone they choose. But that also means it can likely take it away."

"Do we know what this object looks like?" Caleb asked, brow furrowed.

Vera frowned, glancing at her notes. "It's something metallic but I only have leads on how we can find it."

"What's that?" Ruby crossed her arms. She didn't believe any of this.

"I hacked into the Police Department records. Several androids who attacked their owners in recent months had written RA9 on the walls. Including the android that was found last night. Victim was a Carlos Ortiz." Vera sighed through her nose. "They found a few things in evidence to this. Apparently a detective android found him and was able to retract a confession out of him early hours this morning."

"You found all this in the records?"

Vera shrugged, smirking. "I have my ways."

"Well, let's gather our things and get out of here then. I'm starved." Caleb strode over to the metal discs on the walls and began to deactivate them.

"I'll go and let the cranky guy at the desk know we're leaving," Ruby said as she zipped up her jacket and stepped outside.

Only to collide with a dark-haired woman who had come out of the room next door.

"I'm- I'm sorry," she chuckled nervously. Her smile dropped when she faced the parking lot of the motel. Ruby followed her gaze and saw two police cars blocking the road. An old man and an android stepped out of a different car, making their way into the reception area.

Wide-eyed, the woman stumbled back down the corridor towards her room. Ruby followed quickly.

"Hold on," she said, catching the door as the woman began to push it shut. Her gaze held onto a little girl who sat on the bed. "What's going on? Do you need help?"

The woman shook her head but didn't look at her. "Alice, we need to leave. Now."

"What? Why? What's happening, Kara?"

Kara didn't answer for a minute as she grabbed their coats from the hook by the door. Then she sighed and said:
"The police are here, Alice. They're looking for us. We need to get to the train station."

Alice stared at her, frightened. Ruby pressed her lips together and looked behind her, to where the android and Lieutenant were grilling the receptionist.

"Listen, you don't have much time. I can help you get to the train station. I can stall them for five minutes then meet you in the alley."

Kara gripped Alice's hand, staring intently at Ruby for a moment before nodding. Ruby turned and hurried down the steps towards the reception.

Just as the door opened. Ruby halted as the detectives walked out. The older man looked at her then glanced behind her at the rooms. He spoke to someone on the phone, quickly and quietly. He turned to his partner.

"You wait in the car."

The android's brow furrowed slightly. "You're going to need me, Lieutenant. I know more about androids than you do."

The Lieutenant stepped forward and growled: "Listen, I'm tired of you talking back to me. You're a machine, so shut the fuck up and do what I say!"

Ruby blinked at his tone but before she could stall them further, the android replied calmly.

"All I want is to accomplish my mission. I'm sorry if that upsets you."

"Wanna see the end of your mission? Stop busting my fucking balls…"

The Lieutenant began to move towards the rooms, but Ruby called out to him.

"Wait! Lieutenant?" She didn't wait until he turned around. "What are you looking for?"

"An android. It's with a little girl," he called behind him as he paused to march up the stairs.

"It's a deviant," the android clarified as he walked passed her. She scowled at their backs. Kara and Alice would have gone by now. It was time to meet them in the alley.

Vera

"Where is Ruby?" She huffed into the silent room. Caleb was pacing in front of her, anxious to get moving.

"Let's go to reception. She could be waiting for us there."

Vera rolled her eyes. He'd said this three times already.

"Fine."

A male voice sounded in the room next door. "It's gone!"

The two assassins glanced at each other and grabbed their bags from the bed. Stepping outside into the crisp air, they noted the police cars still parked at the entrance. The Lieutenant and his partner left the room next door.

"I'm Lieutenant Anderson. This is Connor." He gestured with his head towards the android who blinked in their direction. "Have either of you seen an android today? It was in this room. Right next to yours."

"We haven't seen any of our neighbours. We arrived yesterday morning." Caleb shook his head.

"That would have been before the android arrived, Lieutenant," Connor noted, leaning forward slightly. Hank rolled his eyes, ignoring him. But nodded to Vera and Caleb. "Alright, we'll keep lookin'. Let us know if you see anything."

"Have a good day, Lieutenant. Connor." Caleb tipped his head to both as he and Vera made their way towards the reception.

They made their way over to the abandoned house that cast a shadow over the rest of the street. There were too many officers and people around to see Ruby anywhere from the ground. So they took to the roof of the motel building and walked towards the train station.

Vera was starting to think they'd never find her when Caleb grabbed her arm and pointed across the street. They crouched to the edge. Using her eagle vision, she spotted Ruby crouching behind a car with two others. The three of them ran towards a bus stop where the woman and child leant back-to-back against Ruby as a policeman walked passed them.

"She's helping them escape…" Vera whispered, conflicting emotions rose within her. What could this android have done to have this many people looking for her? Was she innocent? Who should we help? The police or this android? Ruby…

"We'll catch up with them at the train station. Come on." Caleb interrupted her thoughts and began running across the roof with a jump to the next. With a sigh, she followed him.

But then she had a thought that made her stall.

"I'm going back to find Connor," she called to Caleb as he made to jump down.

"What? Why?" He stalked back towards her.

"Find Ruby and make sure you help that android get away. Connor might know something about RA9."

"And if he doesn't? Or doesn't want to help you?"

"It's a chance I'll have to take. I'll meet up with you when I have a further lead."

He looked doubtful but he nodded. "Good luck."

"You too." Then she ran back towards the motel, and hopefully their one true lead.

Ruby

The train station was finally in sight and the three of them made a run for it. As they reached the platform, she heard a familiar shout.

"Ruby! Wait!"

Caleb reached her, barely out of breath whereas her heart was hammering hard. He looked annoyed for a moment before nodding silently at Kara and Alice. Kara clutched Alice to her, eyes flickering between Ruby and Caleb.

Ruby smiled gently. "It's alright. He's my friend. He won't hurt you."

"Let's get on the train," Caleb said gruffly, ignoring Ruby's stare. "I'll explain later."

They hurried on and the doors close as soon as they were in. Ruby and Caleb moved towards the seating area but not before they looked back to check on Kara and Alice.

Kara placed both hands on Alice's shoulders and knelt down.

"Are you okay?" She asked, voice trembling slightly.

Alice didn't answer but she didn't take her eyes away either. She knelt down and slowly hugged Kara, placing her head gently on her chest. Kara only looked startled for a fleeting second, then placed her hands on Alice's back, and hugged her tightly.
