My story begins today at the home of Nelly, captain of the War Pigs soccer team at Boulderly Hills Middle School. The front door swings open as Nelly furiously storms in and climbs the stairs.
"Hi, sweetie! How was your big soccer game?" Her mother's question was met with the sound of a bedroom door slamming upstairs. "Guess that answers my question," Mrs Miller thought to herself.
Upstairs in her room, Nelly threw her bag full of soccer gear to the floor and poured out some corn into a bowl for her beloved companion, Pigsley, who wasted no time in running over to the bowl and devouring its' contents.
"You hungry after the big game, Pigsley?" Nelly said in the softest voice she could muster. While she was still fuming about the game's outcome
"Y'know, I wonder if the Buffaloes were already planning their payback after we put spaghetti in Mae's buffalo head." Pigsley looked up and oinked, not really understanding what Nelly was saying, and then continued to eat. Just a week ago, the War Pigs' rivals, the Edgewood Buffaloes, had stolen Pigsley. Nelly had previously warned them that the score would be settled on the soccer field, but it was not. Thanks to the astounding skills of their goalkeeper, Dawn, the War Pigs failed to score a single point, leaving Nelly thirsty to give Dawn her just desserts.
"Of course! If tried to get some payback for our prank, so we'll do some of our own! Prepare yourself, Buffaloes! The War Pigs are back in town!" Nelly smirked as she picked up her MelonPhone. "Hey, Millie, it's Nelly. Can you come over to my place? Bring Eve and Jess, too."
25 minutes later, two of Nelly's soccer teammates, Eve and Millie were walking along the street towards Nelly's house. Jess was unable to make it, for she and her family were out of town this weekend.
"What do you think Nelly called us to her house for?" Eve asked Millie as they began to cross the road. "No idea, but it better be important," Millie answered. "Mr. Fleckenstein gets pretty squirrely if you don't get his homework done."
"Well, 5 bucks says she didn't call us for a study session!" Eve laughed as Millie rolled her eyes. "Girl, are you for real? She's the captain of our soccer team, why would she call us for a study session?"
"You wanna take that bet, Mill?"
"Bring it, Eve!"
"Well, it won't be long, now! Look up!" Eve looked up and much to her surprise, she and Millie were already out the front of Nelly's house.
She took a deep breath and knocked on the door, which opened and the two girls were met by Nelly's mother. "Oh, hi girls! I don't think you want to come in. Nelly seemed pretty upset about something earlier."
"It's okay, Mrs. Miller. She called us to come over here," Millie explained, to which Nelly's mother shrugged. "Okay, she's upstairs in her bedroom. But don't say I didn't warn you!" she called after them as they climbed the stairs.
Within minutes of Nelly settling into her podcast, she was interrupted by a knock on her door. "What's the matter, Mom?" she called before her friends entered.
"Ah, Millie. Eve. Thanks for coming. Where's Jess?"
"Sorry," Eve shrugged. "She said she's visiting her grandparents in Denver. Now, why have you called us here?"
"Really?" Nelly questioned, then sighed. "We're here to discuss some payback on the Buffaloes. I suppose the three of us can pull it off."
"Damn..." Millie cursed under her breath as she handed Eve a five dollar bill. "So, Nelly? What have you got in mind?"
Meanwhile, the Buffaloes soccer team were downing celebratory smoothies at Tom's Get Sporty. "That was some great goalkeeping out there, kiddo," smiled Tom, presenting Dawn with a smoothie. "Everyone's first smoothie is on me!" he announced, much to the entire team's delight. Dawn sat down at a nearby table, across from Mae.
"You're on a hot streak, Dawn! Not only did you pull of some epic payback last week, but you totally creamed them at the game!"
"Now, Mae, you know everything was a team effort. I don't even know if we could've pulled it off without Ricky and Dicky."
"That's true, Ricky did have a backup plan. I think it could've worked out great. But Dicky..."
"That's enough," Dawn interrupted. "I know what you're gonna say, and yes, I agree." They shared a laugh together at Dicky's lack of intelligence. "I think they'll leave us alone now," Dawn remarked, taking a sip of her smoothie, painfully unaware of how wrong she was...
