Who knew her abrupt arrival would change things so much?

Pairing: Undecided

Prologue

"I know I've said it all before, but it won't hurt to do it all once more. This is my last hurrah. Once I start, I ain't gonna stop 'til I go too far. Last hurrah, and it's okay. Maybe tomorrow I won't feel this pain."
Bebe Rexha: Last Hurrah

She never looked at the jewel as if it was a blessing, not until it happened. The incident that resulted in the deaths of her mother and younger brother, alongside her grandfather. She'd been fulfilling her duty of hunting down the shattered fragments that had been scattered throughout the Feudal Era. When she came back through the well, her aunt, her mother's sister, told her of what had happened. She knew that if she'd never gotten pulled down the well and if the jewel had never been discovered within her, then she'd be dead alongside them.

The Shikon no Tama, though at times it felt as if the simple bauble was the bane of her existence, she knew it was anything but. It was a part of her until the very end. It had laid dormant within her blood for years. She could feel her own energy surging through it, just as she could feel the remnants of it within her own being.

Though it desired for her to take the place of Midoriko, she knew it belonged with her. She'd mastered control over her own abilities, and she knew she was strong enough to keep it dormant and out of the world's eye with her own strength. She'd taken the moniker of the Shikon Miko, and along with it, she bore the responsibility of the cursed jewel.

She allowed rumors to turn her into a sort of legend among humanity. She knew all too well that she was only a human. She was nothing more than a mortal among countless mortal lives, but a myth was something much more powerful. After all, normal humans had no business knowing just who she was, and so, none of that was for them.

She was silent as she remained seated on her knees, sweat already damping her brow and bangs. A pink glow encased her, her breathing even, as she focused as clearly as she could.

The sounds of the world surrounding her fell away, and behind her closed eyes, differently hued auras formed as her guide of sight. The jewel hidden below her haori burned against her skin, a sign it was lending her assistance throughout her trial.

With a low sigh, she slowly opened her eyes. She was grateful for the shadows that encased the well house, nothing more than a sliver of light intruding from the cracked doors. It was just enough to give her all the light she required in the rickety building. She let her hands drop to her lap, fingers falling back into a relaxed position as she readjusted her legs so she was seated with her knees pulled up. With another sigh, she blew her bangs from her eyes, leaning her head back against the soft wood of the well behind her.

"Still no good," she said softly, almost as if she was berating herself.

Before she'd left the past for good, allowing the well to seal up entirely, Kaede had taught her what felt like an encyclopedia of knowledge on her skills and what she'd be able to do with her scared abilities. She'd dutifully mastered all she could, but this single task was still so exhausting for her.

"Man," Kagome sighed, pushing herself up from the ground and dusting off the seat of her pants, "I don't get why this is so tough. Everything else was easy-peasy," she muttered, unable to help the slight dejected tone from invading her voice.

Even with the jewel's assistance, it was still so taxing on her energy, and it was steadily starting to frustrate her more and more. Who figured strengthening the limit of her senses would be her undoing?

She stood up and left the well house, letting the door slide closed behind her. Her eyes slowly readjusted to the bright sunlight outside, a slight grimace of discomfort flashing across her features for a second or two at the suddenly bright rays.

"I guess I don't have a choice," she muttered to herself, lifting a hand and brushing it through her wavy, raven locks. Looks like she'd have to take a break until she could be sure that all of her energy had been recuperated. Once it had, then she would just try again.

Weeks passed, and she kept to the same process of trial and error when it came to harnessing this once last tactic. She'd never been one to give up or accept defeat graciously. She was far too stubborn and much too determined for any of that nonsense, anyway. She knew that pushing herself to the brink of exhaustion was never a good idea, so she knew her limit, at least.

Still, with no sign of impending success at the tactic showing in her near future, she was certainly growing frustrated, to say the least.

With a low growl, Kagome let her weight drop backwards onto her made-up bed. Her things were packed and ready to go at the slightest word, so she had opted to, once again, return her focus to her most taxing intent. She liked to think she was patient and level-headed, especially after spending her late-teenage years hunting jewel shards and chasing after countless demons- not to mention spending a considerable amount of her time with a certain half-demon, but this made her feel things none of those ever made her feel. Whenever she felt her patience start to dwindle away, she had to step away while it was still intact. With a temper like a raging fire when she finally lost it, she knew that was safest for everyone in a ten mile radius, at least. No one needed to feel the heat of her wrath.

"Kagome?"

A knock on the door to the room that had been used by her somewhat consistently since she was fifteen years old pulled her focus, and Kagome sat back up on the bed. She glanced at the door, a curious light shining in ocean-blue eyes. "Yes?" she called, waiting patiently for the door to open. Once it did, Kagome felt a smile peek on her expression at the appearance of her aunt in the doorway.

Kun-Loon returned her smile with a similar radiance. "I can't believe you're finally leaving," she said as she stepped into the room. She went to join the younger girl on the bed, resting an arm over her shoulder and tugging her into a warm hug. "You've been here for so long, and I have no idea how I'm going to cope without you here."

Kagome leaned into her, snaking an arm around her as well to return the half-hug. "I know, and thank you so much for letting me stay so long," she said softly. "You've taught me more than you realize."

"I'm so glad I got the chance to see you grow from such a clumsy child to a refined, confident woman," Kun-Loon responded. "You mother would be so proud of you." Kun-Loon moved away from Kagome, turning and looking her over with a keen eye. "I say this all the time, but I mean it. You look so much like her. You have her eyes, her hair, her everything."

Truly she looked nearly identical to the woman. It was like she was staring at a photo that'd come to life every time she saw Kagome.

"Are you ready to go, Kagome?"

At the question, the ravenette looked back at Kun-Loon. She saw as she stood up and made for the door, pausing and waiting for her answer with a hand resting on the door frame.

"Yes." With the slight nod of her head, Kagome gave her response, and it prompted Kun-Loon to leave the room. Kagome stood from her bed a moment later, about to follow her out. She came to a halt once she walked by her vanity station, her full-length mirror pulling her focus.

She let her gaze roam over her reflection, her long-sleeved dress hiding the onyx-black bodysuit she wore beneath. The length of the dress reached past her knees, easily hiding the armor in place there.

She lifted a hand and ran her fingers along the right sleeve of her dress, where the hidden blade was kept secured away until there came a need for its presence.

The entire ensemble had been a parting gift Sango had made for her. From the armor, to the suit itself, to the weapons that came along with it. It'd all been made by the demon slayer. Just as it'd been a gift, it also showed her acceptance into the Demon Slayer's clan.

Her hand trailed up to her necklace, where an array of charms resided- where her weapons resided. How to hex them and make them into charms was another thing Kaede had taught her.

Her bow was there, and as were two swords. There were a few other different shapes, as well, but those were mostly ordinary charms that would be found on a charm bracelet or necklace.

She fixed her hair in a loose braid that looped over her shoulder before stepping away from the mirror entirely. She grabbed her well-used, yellow bag- hexed to expand its allotted space- and followed the path the older woman had taken at last.

C.R: The chapters will get longer as the story progresses, don't worry.

Pairing is, of course, up for debate. There's just way too many characters I love from the MCU. I'll say that while Inuyasha characters will appear (specifically Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, and Shippo), I'd rather the pairing be an x-over pair.

She's not going to be a villain, but she probably won't be a hero either. She'll most likely be a comfortable medium, so she can be a counterbalance to both heroes and villains relationship-wise.

That's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
