"Dear Ms. Suyin Xu,
As you are well aware this world is a cruel one, with people all over it that commit crimes and take advantage of others. It's a place where you can't leave your door unlocked, for fear of someone coming into your house at night and stealing all of your possessions. Something you seem, keen to take advantage of. While you may see yourself as more than just a Thief, you still deliberately broke into The Grand Lotus Casino, worked amongst them for a few months, and then stole millions from them in both secrets and cash. It doesn't matter that your intentions were good in the eyes of the law, you still committed the crime of Grand Larceny.
Despite your actions, this doesn't have to be the end of your life. You won't have to spend the rest of your time in jail, for actions that in most people's eyes would be justified, all you need to do is join our ranks here at the HPCF.
Welcome to Hope's Peak Correctional Facility. A facility where the truly gifted students scouted by Hope's Peak, that are also on the wrong side of the law, are sent for rehabilitation. Because despite what some people think, people do deserve second chances, especially the extremely talented! Spend one month underneath the roof of HPCF, and come back a better person, ready to attend Hope's Peak and attain the future you so rightly deserve!
All you need to do to escape is brave this facility's, 'Escape Parameters', tasks that are given to you by the headmistress herself, Liberty. These 'Escape Parameters' are tasks that are assigned to you, tailor-made by the professionals over at the HPCF, after the interview, you will take to get in here. These are made to strengthen your resolve, and help rehabilitate you back into society, to graduate from this facility you must complete these tasks before your time is up!
We here at the HPCF, hope to see you work your way back into your deserved future, as the Future Ultimate Undercover Agent!
We hope to see you soon!"
A short, choppy, black-haired woman, stares at the paper in her hands for a few seconds, frustration clear in her narrowing eyes.
Less than 24 hours ago, she'd been having the time of her life, everything was great! She had been living it up, feeling whole, complete, like she was doing something with her life. And now look at her, sitting on an uncomfortable bed, in a prison somewhere in the middle of China. Everything about this frustrates her to no end, it feels like an insult to her as a thief, and yet... she resists the urge to crumble the paper in her hands.
Frustration mounts before crashing down into acceptance, leaving her lips in a sigh. Her, red, frilly dress wrinkles underneath her as she falls back onto the bed, holding the paper above her head.
'How could everything have gone so wrong?'
She can still remember the confidence she'd gone in with, how everything had felt so right, years upon years of training, months of preparation for this one operation, her first ever, ready to go. It felt like she'd been training her entire life for that particular moment, she'd prove everyone wrong, she could be a thief, she could do what the others could, she isn't some liability that needs to be relegated to the side jobs! Her parents would be proud! Everything was supposed to be great! And then it wasn't.
A grimace crosses her lips, as she thinks back on where everything went wrong. She shouldn't have brought Val on the heist, no matter how important it was to her best friend. Bringing the Grand Lotus down, taking out the Xun Family, and spreading information on their misdeeds as a whole, was more important than Val doing it specifically, and yet... She'd let emotions and arrogance get the better of her, and allowed her best friend the chance at revenge all on a whim.
Taking care of Val, a detective with little to no skills in the art of stealth, while also dealing with the plan she'd put in place, for one person, mind you, had proven to be too much for her, and a singular mistake, one misplaced foot, led to her lying here in a prison bed.
Shrugging the memory away, she stares back at the paper, crinkling in her hands like it's a dangerous weapon. Should she take the deal? Should she try to find a way to break out? Should she wait for backup?
Every option seems equally horrible in her, and yet she can't think of much else to do… Reluctantly, she glares at the paper in her hands again, staring at the words until they blur into the paper.
She feels like a moron for even considering it, her pride already aching under her decision.
But…
One month isn't all that long in the grand scheme of things, and honestly, even though it hurts her inside, she's going to have to accept the help.
"But Undercover Agent… Really? God, why couldn't they have called me the Ultimate Phantom Thief?" She sighs to herself, it's a small gripe, but one that feels important to her, if unimportant to everything and apparently, everyone else. It's not like she would've introduced herself as a thief to anyone else in the program anyways. She's not going to give away a family secret, just because she was caught...
She looks over at the cell door, grasping at the paper. She's already got a cover story, why waste it? She'll introduce herself as the Ultimate Croupier, muscle through the month, and be on her merry way afterward…
Swinging her legs back over the side of the bed, she hops off her back onto her feet, landing gracefully with a huff. As she walks over to the door to her cell, anticipation builds in her core, ready to get this whole farce over with.
"Guards! I'd like to use my one phone call!"
Now that she's had time to think about it... it wasn't even a hard choice, there's absolutely no way, she'd ever ask for help from her family. Doing so would only prove them right, and she'd rather choke on glass than admit to that.
Accepting the offer from the HPCF was the infinitely more appealing option, a month in a rehabilitation camp? Please, she's dealt with worse.
It's not like the Headmistress could be that bad... Right?
Hello everyone! I've had this idea floating around in my head for quite a while, and have been hankering to do something with it! It's only now, after years of practicing, and honing my writing that I'm willing to try and share it with everyone! This isn't my first story on this site, I started and abandoned a story on an older profile of mine a few years back, thanks to some major family problems. If you look up Safe Haven, underneath the Danganronpa game tag, you'll find it! I'm certainly not new to the community and have submitted characters to multiple stories in the past.
For some background, this story's only connection to canon is Hope's Peak itself, and even that isn't 100% the same as it is in the source material. In this universe, Hope's Peak is a worldwide organization with a High School on every continent, to promote the worldwide study of Talent. None of the canon characters exist in this story except for the ones responsible for Hope's Peak's creation!
For your character to be chosen for this story, they must fit with the main premise. That being, a student that has had at least some run-in with the law, and accepted the invitation to come to the HPCF for rehabilitation, over sitting and rotting in jail! Whether your character committed the crime or not, is entirely up to you, all that truly matters is that they're in jail before the start of this story!
If any of you have any questions on the premise or want to run any ideas by me, feel free to DM me any questions you might have. I already check my inbox several times a day for no reason, so questions to answer will help give me something to do when I check it for the umpteenth time in a day.
That being said, I hope you all are ready for the wild ride my co-authors and I are planning to take you on! The main theme of this story will be Strength vs Weakness. Other such themes will include the Mistreatment and Prejudice of and against criminals, Forgiveness vs Anger, and how far people are willing to sink when put in desperate situations.

What were you incarcerated for? What led up to your enrollment here at Hope's Peak Correctional Facility?
What is your goal by coming here? Do you truly want rehabilitation, are you just looking for a way out of your charges, or do you want to prove that we can't help shape you into a better person? Don't worry, your answer won't affect your standing here.
Do you think that by the end of your tenure here, that you'll be a better person? Please answer honestly, again, answering what you really think won't affect you negatively.
What do you personally think about the chance you've been given to get a get-out-of-jail-free card, from your charges? Are you excited about the opportunity, or are you frustrated that you have to do even this?
Last question. How far are you willing to sink to release the chains that have been bound around you through your own actions? What are you willing to do, to put this all behind you and continue with your life?
