Day 26: Recovery

The sound of an explosion in the distance was all it took before Jean slammed her head down on the top of her desk full force. She should have known that Klee wouldn't be able to keep out of trouble for too long when Kaeya was the one watching her.

Those two somehow always found a way to get themselves into some kind of trouble when there wasn't someone around to watch both of them. Kaeya was supposed to be a grown man – not even twenty-two – yet he acted as much of a child as Klee at times. More like being around Klee seemed to trigger his inner child.

She was gonna need a drink to handle whatever mess those two had made.

"Luc?" the younger man asked nervously.

He was met with stony silence as the brooding man on the other infirmary bed seemed resolved to ignore him for the rest of eternity. His red hair was still charred in some places and Kaeya could have sworn that he could even still see embers burning in his hair.

It would be funny if the other wasn't so mad.

Kaeya got nervous whenever Diluc got mad.

"What made you think that encouraging Klee to use her new bomb to go 'fish blasting' was ever a good idea?" the other seethed. Kaeya flinched, the other voice sounding like he was very close to losing it. Diluc had more resistance to fire than Kaeya, was practically immune to it.

Klee's bombs appeared to be the exception.

And now Diluc was angry with him again.

Instead of answering, Kaeya let himself fall back against his pillow with a sigh as he sank into his bed. He knew he had a tendency to be childish occasionally, but he had truly thought that the bomb wasn't going to be as strong as it wound up being. The poor girl had been beside herself with grief when she realized the two had been hurt.

It had been at that moment that Fischl had shown up and sent Oz to go find anyone from either the knights or the Adventurer's Guild to send a wagon. It had taken a while before they showed up, but by then, Kaeya had been knocked out cold.

The next time he had woken up, they had already been moved to this room in the cathedral.

Turning onto his side, he put his back to the room and faced the wall. He could feel his face flush with shame as he went over the events in his mind over and over. He knew that Klee was making stronger bombs almost every month, he should have seen it coming.

His self-deprecating thoughts continued to swirl through his brain before something collided with the back of his head, causing him to shoot up in surprise. Turning over, he was met with a white pillow.

What. . . ?

A muffled snort had him darting his eyes to the other side of the room. Diluc's back was still turned to him, but he could have sworn that he saw a faint tremor before the other went still again.

So that was how it was going to be, huh?

Kaeya felt a mischievous smirk curl onto his face.

Barbara let out an amused sigh as she watched the nuns nervously run around the cathedral in a frenzy. Ever since the Ragnvindr brothers had woken up, they had taken to playing tricks on one another.

At first, it had just been normal things like pillow fights and Kaeya singing annoying songs. Soon it had escalated to Kaeya freezing Diluc to his bed and Diluc raising the room temperature in retaliation until the younger man finally conceded defeat. Their most recent prank had been pretty simple.

A food fight.

The two had slung food back and forth until it was all over their beds, the floor and the walls. The nuns nearly had a heart attack when they had gone to check up on them. The only thing that had kept the Deaconess from getting angry was the sound of laughter that rang from the room.

With another sigh, she turned around to go back to her office to write Jean a letter about possibly letting Kaeya come back to work early before he and Diluc gave anyone else any more heart attacks. Though she was tempted to let the two stay for another week.

They gave her a great source of entertainment.

A/N: I accidentally wrote this instead of Day 24. It was a complete accident because I pulled up multiple accounts at once on my computer and accidentally screwed up the order of them and started writing for this one instead without looking at the day. I feel like such an idiot because I now have to write the other two days first before I can upload this one.

This story was written on the 26th and I was just going for Kaeya and Diluc recovering in the cathedral after a battle and I thought, what could be a funnier way for them to wind up there and then – Boom!

Klee.

Diluc was the first one to pull a prank because he realized how his words had accidentally caused Kaeya's sudden negative mental state and he did the first thing he could think of. Since they used to play pranks on each other a lot as children, it certainly was something familiar that he could fall back on.

He's just lucky he didn't accidentally make it worse.
