Beca scowls as Rachel loops their arms together, but she doesn't say anything about it. They've been best friends since fifth grade, so she knows her words will go to waste anyway. "So, how'd I do? Was I brilliant, or simply outstanding?"
Sometimes, Beca can't believe how conceded her best friend is. "You were good, Berry, just like always."
Rachel gasps and freezes in place, forcing Beca to stop moving as well. "Good isn't good enough, Beca! I must be better than good!"
The shorter woman sighs, holding back an eye roll. "Dude, chill the hell out."
"Oh my gosh, it's Rachel Berry and Beca Mitchell!" Someone passing by screams, and a bunch of people start advancing on the two brunettes.
"Run." Beca whispers, and the two of them break out into a sprint towards their limo. Of fucking course their driver had to park a block away from the famous Broadway stage. In all fairness, it was the closest he could get, but Beca still scowls in annoyance.
When the two get into the limo, they burst out laughing. This isn't the first time they've run from fans, and it probably won't be the last time either.
Rachel shakes her head at her best friend as they stop laughing. Their friendship shouldn't make any sense at all, but somehow, it does. Beca's sarcastic, witty, and uncoordinated, whereas Rachel is ambitious, persistent, and dramatic. They fight more than they get along, but Rachel wouldn't have it any other way. She needs someone like that in her life, especially since... but no, she can't think about him right now.
Beca seems to see right through the smile she quickly forces back on her face, though. "Rach... he'd be proud of you, you know. He is proud of you."
"I know he is." The Broadway star whispers in response, quickly wiping away the tear running down her cheek. "I'm doing for him."
In an uncharacteristic move, Beca leans over and wraps her arms around her best friend. "Good."
When she pulls away, the shorter woman sighs. It's been almost a year since Finn, who was definitely Rachel's soulmate, passed away. Sometimes, she still hears her best friend crying at night, and Rachel won't even talk about now he died- about the fact that he overdosed. It's almost as if she doesn't believe it.
Suddenly, the limo stops. "Um, why aren't we moving?" Rachel asks sharply, and the driver sighs before turning to look at the two celebrities.
"Sorry ladies, there's this thing called traffic, and we're sorta stuck in it." He says. Rachel sits up straighter and glares at him, but Beca snorts as she tries not to laugh.
"Beca, this is not funny." Rachel rolls her eyes at her, but the actress just keeps laughing. "You know what, fine. We'll just walk." With that, she grips Beca's arm and drags her out of the vehicle.
"Dude, what the actual fuck?" The shorter woman asks, no longer amused. "There's no way you're that fucking anxious to get coffee."
"Well, I don't want to wait for hours to get something to drink." Rachel responds, still dragging Beca along the streets of New York. "Besides, the exercise is good for us."
"Being attacked by fans isn't." The blue eyed woman responds, and brown eyes meet hers in a withering glare. "Fine."
"You know, it couldn't hurt you to be a little more..."
"A little more what?" Beca challenges, raising a single eyebrow. Rachel doesn't break eye contact, although she understands that she's either about to be attacked or ignored.
"Cheerful." She states, then lets out an inaudible sigh of relief when Beca rolls her eyes and looks away.
"Fuck off." Truth of the matter is, she's heard this too many times in her lifetime from too many people. That she doesn't smile enough, that she should laugh more. That she should stop pushing people away. But she likes who she is, so why the hell should she change for some idiotic fans? She shouldn't. And she won't.
"Oh look, were here." Rachel quickly changes the subject, and Beca chuckles as they walk into the small café that they've been going to together for the past three years.
"The regular?" The barista, a blonde with short hair and green eyes, asks, and Rachel nods.
"Thanks, Quinn."
"Anytime." The blonde smiles, then turns and exist into a room in the back.
"We probably come here too much, if Blondie knows our order by heart." Beca mentions, and Rachel rolls her eyes at her.
"Why must you insist on calling her that?" She asks, and Beca chuckles.
"Why do you care?"
"I don't." But the truth is, she does. What her best friend doesn't is that she has a small crush one Quinn Fabray. It's news to absolutely no one that she's bi, but... she feels guilty for liking someone. Finn just passed away... she doesn't want people to think she's forgetting about him. She doesn't want to forget him. It scares the shit out of her that, when she closes her eyes sometimes, she sees green eyes instead of brown ones.
"One iced coffee with milk, one French vanilla cappuccino." Quinn comes back, setting both drinks on the counter. "Enjoy."
"Thanks Blondie." Beca says, then goes to grab her coffee. Quinn, though, stops her by grabbing her wrist.
"Now you can't have this." She jokes and pulls the drink back, and this time it's Rachel's turn to try and not laugh.
"Fine, Quinn. Can I have my drink?" Beca sighs in exasperation, and the barista laughs.
Rachel watches all of this with a small smile on her face. She's beyond glad Beca and Quinn get along, although she has no reason to feel that way. It's not like she's ever gonna ask Quinn out or anything.
"Fine, but only because you asked so nicely." She turns to wink at Rachel, who laughs and looks away to hide her blush.
"Oh my God, could these two be any slower?" A voice says from behind them, and Beca and Rachel turn around to see a small Latina and a tall brunette standing behind them. The Latina looks annoyed, leading Rachel to believe she's the one who spoke. The tall brunette just looks amused.
"Excuse me?" Beca raises an eyebrow as she glares at them. "What the hell did you just say?"
"Oh, you don't want to pick a fight with me." The Latina responds and takes a step forward. "See, I'm from a little place called Lima Heights Adjacent." Her eyes trail Beca's body, taking in her jeans and flannel shirt. "Although, you look so homeless you may not even know where that is."
"Santana, really?" Quinn says, and they all turn to look at her. "Seriously, can you go five minutes without picking a fight?"
"Fuck you, Fabray." The Latina- who's name is Santana, apparently- responds, but her voice isn't as harsh.
"Just ignore her." The barista says, her expression a mixture between annoyed and amused.
"She likes acting like a bitch." The tall brunette adds with a chuckle. "I'm Stacie, the best friend."
"I'm Rachel Berry." Rachel sticks her hand out to the brunette, who simply smiles and shakes her hand politely.
"I know who you two are."
"Oh." The Broadway star grins and stands a little taller, and Beca rolls her eyes.
"Alright, let's go, before your ego gets too big to exit this room." With one last glare at Santana, the shorter woman leads her best friend out of the café, their drinks in hand.
"Maybe she wanted an autograph or something!" Rachel starts to protest, and Beca sighs as she opens the door. What neither woman is expecting, though, is the yelp that quickly follows.
"Don't stand the hell-" Beca starts to say, but freezes and gulps when luminescent blue eyes meet hers. "Uh, I'm sorry. Are you ok?"
The ginger giggles as she rubs her hand across her forehead. "Yeah, you didn't hit me too hard." After a moment, she gasps. "Oh my God, you're Beca Mitchell!"
Beca grimaces and nods. "The one and only."
"And I'm Rachel Berry. Her best friend." Rachel sticks her hand out, and the redhead chuckles before taking her hand.
"Nice to meet you." She's polite, but there's absolutely no look of recognition in her eyes, and Beca's once again forced to hold back a laugh. It's rare that people don't recognize both of them when they're together.
Rachel visibly deflates, but does her best not to let it show. Being her best friend, though, Beca immediately notices. "It was nice to meet you..."
"Chloe." The ginger grins at her.
"Chloe, but we have to go."
"Oh, ok." Chloe nods, but looks a little disappointed. "It was nice to meet you too."
With that, Beca and Rachel move past Chloe, and as soon as they're outside, Rachel whacks at Beca's arm. "You should've gotten her number! She was hot."
Beca rolls her eyes and shoves Rachel. "Dude, she may not even be into girls." Of course, she doesn't deny the "hot" comment, because her best friend is definitely right there.
"But now you'll never know!" Rachel exclaims, shaking her head. "Sometimes, Beca, I really wonder about you."
That night as Rachel and Beca lay in their respective beds, it takes them both a long time to fall asleep. Rachel lays in the same spot, staring at the wall, while Beca tosses and turns, squeezing her eyes tightly closed.
All Rachel can think about is Quinn and Finn. A tear falls down her face as Finn's laugh fills her head, but she holds onto it for as long as she can before it fades away. The blonde's laugh quickly replaces it, and Rachel feels relieved for a millisecond before feeling guilty and crying just a little bit harder.
I love you, Finn. Always. She thinks with all her might, even mouthing the words at the wall. She doesn't know if he can hear her, but she hopes more than anything he can.
Meanwhile, Beca's got blue eyes and red hair on her mind. She sees hot girls all the time, so her not being able to forget about Chloe is jarring for her. Maybe it's because she accidentally attacked her? Yeah, that's gotta be it, she convinces herself as she turns over for the umpteenth time, but it doesn't help her sleep one bit.
Neither woman falls asleep for a very long time; both are too wrapped up in their own thoughts to drift off.
A/N: Hey guys! I just got done watching Glee for the first time ever (I know. I'm so behind) and I just had to do a Pitch Perfect crossover. The first four chapters are going to be slightly short, but they should hopefully get longer afterwards. I know this one was a little sad with Rachel, but hang in there with me please! The ships in here will be Brittana, Bechloe, Faberry, and Staubrey. For those of you reading Operation- Not Expected, do you guys think I should continue with it? I'm sort of on the fence, and I recently lost all of my files for it. If enough of you want more, though, I'll do it.In true crossover form, I must combine these two sayings for this story, so... I love ya awesome gleeks : D
