This is my first story, so please have mercy and enjoy!
The yellow bright sun shining on a boy's face. The boy tried covering his face from the sun by using his blanket, but sooner or later he dragged his body up and went to the bathroom. He looked at himself in the mirror. His black-brown hair was a mess. He furrowed while looking at his nose, it was flat and not in a good way. However, his mood became better when he looked at his eyes. They were green and brown like some kind of two-colored kaleidoscope. This kind of colored eyes are very rare in Kanto. No one, as in no one in Kanto, has the same eyes as this boy. The boy washed his face with water and wiped it. Walking towards the window, he couldn't help but love the peaceful and rural view of Pallet Town.
A feminine voice shouted from downstairs, "Honey, breakfast is ready. Come on down or else you'll be late for your big day."
The boy shouted, "Coming down, Mom."
Walking downstairs, his mom was waiting for him at the stairs and hugged the boy. Squeezing him so hard the boy weakly said, "Mom, you gotta let me go now. I can't breathe." His mom let him go and sighed. Her baby is so big now, he's about 5'4. She remembered the days when they were best friends but now her son prefers hanging out in the forest. She gave him a plate full of his favorite breakfast food: bacon and pancakes. She was slightly disappointed that he is basic when it comes to breakfast but she couldn't help but smile at her son gobbling down his breakfast.
Muffled, he said, "Thanks for breakfast,Mom. I gotta go, love you."
His mom looked at the clock that showed that it was 8:00 then looked back at him and said, "Finish chewing your food first. It's still early, no need to rush."
The boy finished chewing his food and made his way towards the mirror to check his outfit. Leather jacket ? Check. RIpped jeans? Check. Sunglasses hanging onto the white shirt? Check. Awesome sneakers? Check. Backpack, complete with materials? Check. He looked around as if forgetting something. Underwear? Oops! He forgot to bring and wear underwear. He frantically ran upstairs to put on underwear. His mom just giggled at him, knowing that he forgot his underwear.
After a while he came back down, hugged his mom, and said, "I will come back soon with my starter."
His mom sighed and cried, "My little boy is so big now, getting his starter."
He said, "Mom, don't worry. I'll come back."
He left the house and walked down the road. He began thinking what starter he was going to get. He knew he wouldn't be given the normal three starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Scoring in the top 10 all over the world in the trainer exam means you get to go to a special place where you get to catch your starter and he scored top 6 in the world. He wondered where this special place is. There are places that are kept away from the public like the Nature Preserve where you can only go there by plane from Unova or he could be going to a place as simple as the Safari Zone in Johto. He knew one thing though, his pokemon is going to be special.
After ending his train of thought, he soon arrived in the Professor's lab, but it was still closed. He glanced at his watch without bringing his arm up and he could make out that it was around 8:15. No wonder the professor isn't here yet, it's because he was too early; they were supposed to meet here at 9:00.
He waits a while then he was able to make out a silhouette that from afar the person seemed to be female and about the same height as him. The silhouette disappeared for a second and reappeared. He immediately knew who it was. The silhouette was his clumsy, smart, and always spacing out best friend.
After a couple more trips you could finally clearly see the previous silhouette. My best friend saw him and shouted, "LYLE, WHY ARE YOU SO EARLY?" Lyle clutched his ears in pain, but kept smiling at his best friend. His best friend adorned a denim jacket, a red t-shirt with cute pokemons printed on it, a blue and black duffel bag, insulated pants, and her signature pendant. The pendant was gorgeous, it was a teardrop shaped emerald embroidered with a pattern of white stars. The emerald was beautiful not because of the emerald's beauty but because of the emerald's personal significance to her. Lyle knows that it is significant to her but he doesn't know why.
Lyle hugged her and chuckled, "I'm not early. I'm just always on time."
She looked at him and said, " IT IS TIME FOR EMMY'S OUTFIT OPINION!"
Lyle looked at her straight in the eyes sending her a message that he doesn't want to do what she wants. Emmy looked at him, pouted her lips and showed him her puppy dog eyes. Lyle sighed and nodded. Lyle spun around and showed off his outfit by opening his leather jacket.
Emmy looked at Lyle for a while, nodded, and said, "Damn, you look suave. Wait is that my white shirt?"
Lyle smiled mischievously and nodded indicating that the white shirt he was wearing was indeed Emmy's.
She pouted, "Why does it look better on you?"
Lyle answered, "Girl, this is a size XL shirt. What made you think that a small child could wear it?" Lyle patted Emmy on her head. She slapped his hand away and glared at him.
"I am not a small child! How dare you say that?!" Emmy screamed but then she sighs knowing that Lyle just likes teasing her.
"Anyway, overall you look hot and any girl or boy who sees this. Well, they're gonna fall for you." Emmy said this while waving her hand in front of his chest.
Lyle smiled, "I know I look hot after all, I'm friends with you and you made me look hot."
"If it weren't for me, you would have no sense of style." Emmy nodded.
Lyle smirked, "That is true, but also because of you I need my ears checked every week."
Emmy's cheeks turn red and she slaps him lightly on his left arm. They just stand there in the cold for a while. Lyle gets annoyed at how late the professor is.
'Where is the professor? I am freezing out here,' Lyle thought.
'IKR, where is he? Also, can I have your jacket?' Emmy thought, bursting into Lyle's mind. They were having one of their telepathic conversations. Being especially close, they could communicate telepathically even without telepathic powers.
'Fine, since I'm a gentleman and if I don't, you're just gonna bug me,' Lyle said telepathically.
Lyle walks towards Emmy and puts his black leather jacket on Emmy. She wrapped the jacket on herself and gave him an endearing warm smile. Emmy always knew what Lyle always wanted every time. She knew that a smile would make his day and it did. Lyle and Emmy stood in silence outside the gate of the professor's lab while waiting for the professor's and the other trainers to arrivee. Lyle repeatedly kept checking his watch, waiting for the other people to come. Emmy began to fidget her fingers and kept tapping her foot on the ground, Lyle sneered, "Can you stop it?"
Emmy huffed, "Hmph, fine." Emmy stopped fidgeting and from looking at the ground, she moved her head up and saw a bunch of silhouettes walking in her line of sight.
It appears that the trainers, who have passed their trainer exam, have finally arrived. All the trainers that have arrived simply passed the test while only 3 people in Pallet Town passed with flying colors. Actually maybe only 2, the other person got a really high score on the written part but she bombed the physical part of the exam. That person is Carmine Oak. The bane of Lyle's existence. They seem friendly on the outside, but on the inside, they also are friendly. Lyle just gets annoyed when Carmine becomes a smart ass. Carmine is the only person that Lyle hates even if a little. There were a bunch of noisy trainers standing outside the gate waiting to get their starter from the Professor. Emmy and Lyle walked to the less crowded side. Carmine followed and tapped Emmy on the shoulder, " Hey, girl, hey!" Emmy spun around and shrieked," Oh my goddess, what is up and what is up with that tan?"
Carmine replied, "So you know how my dad went to Alola to get some starters?" Lyle and Emmy both nodded curiously. Carmine continued, "He left me at the beach while he went to get the starters. I went to go tanning on the beach and I slept under the Alolan sun and now I'm burnt. At least, I look like my name now."
Lyle looked at her deadpanned before speaking up, "Carmine is close to the color red, you look like the color cinnamon, Cinnamon." Lyle ended his sentence rather snarkily. Carmine scowled. Lyle had to be the one to make her mad but she was used to it.
Trying to break the awkward silence Emmy asked, "So, did you see the pokemon your dad bring?" Carmine shook her head sadly.
"Speaking of which, where is my dad? He left the house earlier than I did."
Emmy smoked,"Knowing your dad, pretty sure he's making a dramatic entrance or something."
Speak of the devil, a huge shadow cast over them. The shadow moved so fast that it was only on top of them for a short second. A gust of dust made by the shadow that landed made everyone in the vicinity cover their eyes. It was a man riding a pokemon. The pokemon looked somewhat like a reptile with wings. It has two small legs, small pointy ears, its snout covering the upper part of its jaw, a piercing and intimidating eyes, the body was gray except for its wings which were purple. Lyle scrutinized and squinted, he saw this creature before but he couldn't remember.
The creature bellowed as it flapped its wings, "AERRRROOOO!"
It clicked. Lyle knew what this pokemon was. The Aerodactyl let its head down in order to allow the man to get down from it. The man patted the pokemon's head and gave it a treat. Aerodactyl quickly ate the treat and roared softly under the hand of the man who patted it's head. The man jumped off the Aerodactyl and brushed his hair, then he smirked towards the group of trainers.
"Welcome to my laboratory! Here you will receive your starter, pokedex, pokeballs, and a lecture from me about safety. I feel like I don't need to be saying this since most of you got pretty high scores in your exam, but the government makes me do this. Anyway, let's head in," the professor announced as he unlocked the gate to his laboratory.
The entire place was so big, Lyle just stood in front of the place in shock. He's already been here once but it still shocks him. On one side there was a large field with a big lake in the middle of it, the field was separated with one side full of trees, grass, and flowers while the other was a plain field. The size itself was marvelous, how did the professor acquire this much land? The other side of the large land that the professor owns is a 2 story white house on top of a hill. The professor walked with ease towards the house while all the trainers, except Carmine, had trouble walking up the steep hill. The professor opened the door to his marvelous lab.
All the trainers stepped inside and looked around in awe. Even the inside of the house was very built. The first floor alone had tons of gizmos that no one understood, but it was fascinating and cool looking. Lyle and Emmy stood frozen in front of shelves full of pokeballs until Carmine pushed them forward and told them to keep moving. The professor stopped walking and turned on the television that was in the corner of the room.
The professor stood in front of the standing students and started speaking, "For those who do not know me, I am Professor Gary Oak. Newbies, today you will receive 5 pokeballs, your pokedex, and, most importantly, your starter. In Pallet Town, your only choices for a starter are either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle," Gary then turned on the television showing the 3 different starters, he then continued, "Only those who scored in the top 10 for this year's trainer exam can get a different starter. Now for the boring part and I hate this part, so i just made a video, so I would never need to explain this ever again." Prof. Gary showed the video to the trainers. Carmine just brushed her short hair with her hands because she was the one who made the video. Lyle and Emmy paid no attention to the video since they found it to be of no use to them. Smart the video ended, the professor was outside of the house. He was on the side of the hill that connected to the field. There was a horde of pokemon that was running towards the professor, Lyle instinctively ran in front of the professor and thrusted his arms sideway trying to protect the professor, only for the pokemon to immediately stop a few feet away from the professor. Gary chuckled and patted Lyles shoulder as he walked past him. The professor then said, "They look rowdy, but i have trained well. There was no need to protect me, though I admire your bravery, it must be why you scored top 6 in the world."
There were about 15 pokemon, only 3 kinds of pokemon were there. There was a blue pokemon with a shell that is brown on top and yellow under, it also had a long tail that was curved at the end. Lyle concluded that this was Squirtle. The second pokemon's body was mostly orange, but its underside from the chest was of the color of cream. Like a human, it had two legs and arms. At the tip of its tail there was a small fire. Emmy smiled at the pokemon, she knew the name of this species, Charmander. The last pokemon was a quadrupedal with green skin and dark patches all over. There was also a green bulb on its back. The green pokemon yawned,"Bulbaaasauuur!" This green creature was a Bulbasaur. The professor kneeled and let them eat their food.
Gary stood up and clapped his hands,"Who's ready to get their starter?" The other trainers shouted their excitement, while Lyle and Emmy looked at each other knowingly. Professor Gary Oak made the other trainers stay inside while one trainer would go out to the fields and pick their starter. One by one the trainers left with their starter, pokedex, and some pokeballs. Finally, the last person to receive their starter from Professor Oak was Carmine.
"Hi Dad," she said.
"From these three pokemon, whom will you pick," the professor smirked, "or would you like to go with Lyle and Emmy to catch your starter?"
Carmine could not speak. Finally, she stuttered,"W-wh-what?!"
"You got 11th place and the person who topped 9th cheated, therefore that person cannot be a trainer and that you are in the top 10," the professor explained.
Carmine squealed, "Oh my gosh, ahahaha! I can't believe it! Ahahhaha!"
The professor looked annoyed, "Calm down, please." Thankfully, Carmine obeyed her dad because her squeals were a pain. Carmine's dad gestured to them to follow him and they did. They followed him farther into the fields, passed a river, walked through a forest, and finally reached a plain grassland. They arrived in the grasslands and saw a small black and white plane. Lyle squinted, trying to see who that person was under the plane. Suddenly the figure waved, "Hi Emmy!"
Emmy froze and murmured,"M-m-mom?!"
