While Tory was doing some pre-class stretches, Mitch was talking to Dieter and a couple of the others, about the fight again Miyagi-Do last night at the arcade.
"Man it was so sick! Tory was just kicking ass. I took care of Chris. Oh, and Hawk got that beta Demetri in an arm bar like Chris Jericho and just.." He used sign language to show breaking something and made a breaking noise. "Cold blooded. No mercy!" he finished before fist bumping Dieter.
"Way to go Hawk!" Big Red complimented.
Not for the first time, Mitch was acting like Hawk was the most badass and amazing fighter ever. He definitely was amazing and badass. Tory actually felt amused by Mitch's enthusiasm and she went to talk to Hawk.
"You know, I didn't think you were actually gonna do it" Tory told him. It was true. She saw that he had that nerd's arm in a hold for a while before he finished the fight. She thought he wasn't going to. He had definitely impressed her.
Hawk looked like he was trying to think of something to say, like he was afraid of saying something wrong, then said "Yeah, well they got what they deserved for what they did to Miguel"
Tory had to quickly look at the ground so she wouldn't glare at Hawk for bringing up Miguel. She knows he's not trying to annoy her by bringing him up, but she didn't need to be reminded about some choices she made regarding Miguel, like not visiting him at the hospital.'
Hawk was able to tell by her expression that she hadn't visited him. "You still haven't seen him yet have you?"
"I don't wanna talk about it" was all Tory gave him before walking away. She knows she really should go see Miguel, or at least text him. But how could she? She blamed herself for Miguel's than she blamed Robby Keane or even Sam Larusso. If she had just confronted Larusso outside of school, maybe so much would be different. She wouldn't have gotten expelled and Miguel wouldn't have fallen off that balcony.
Besides, she's still a little mad at him for kissing Larusso. Not mad like she was before, but still mad. Mad that Miguel had lied about being over her and broken her trust by kissing her.
The door to the dojo opens and seven new people come in. They looked very athletic.
"Class. Welcome our new students" said Sensei Kreese. Tory noticed one of the athletes, a girl with dark curly hair, was staring at her for a moment before looking away. Mitch walked up to them all with confidence.
"I'm gonna call you guys uhh... Chodenose and Taintbreath"
"The hell did you just say?" The tallest one asked, walking closer to Mitch, making him look a little afraid.
"Oh, uh, nothing. It's just this thing we do around here sometimes" Mitch said before the tall one fake punched him, making him flinch.
"Ok" was all Mitch said before walking away.
As Hawk went to talk to Sensei Kreese, Tory looked at these noobs and saw they all would probably be Cobra Kai material. But she had a feeling they were all assholes. She noticed that girl who stared at her had smirked at what happened to Mitch, but apart from that, had always kept the same glare on her face.
She heard Sensei Kreese say something about the dojo missing natural athletes and told everyone to fall in, so they all did.
"Joining Cobra Kai is a privilege. Its not a gift. Which is why our recruits must earn their position in this dojo. Prepare yourselves for combat. Only the strong will survive"
It sounds like Sensei Kreese is gonna have some of the cobras fighting the athletes, and whoever loses, they will be kicked out of Cobra Kai. Tory wasn't worried. She had no plans to be kicked out of Cobra Kai today.
Sensei Kreese told everyone to prepare for combat again after 5 minutes of warming up. Tory went over to a free spot. She saw the tallest athlete and the fat one go to Hawk and they started calling him the kid with the lip.
Tory had never seen anyone make fun of Hawk before so she was surprised, but she was even more surprised that Hawk did nothing about it. He would never have allowed someone to get away with making fun of him. Something was clearly going on with him. Tory wasn't sure if she should help him out or not. Hawk probably wouldn't appreciate her fighting his battle.
"Alright class. Let the games begin" said Sensei Kreese. He picked out the tall athlete and Mitch for a sparring match. They went onto the mat.
Sensei Kreese asked if they were ready and Mitch bowed. He got his guards up as the athlete got into some other stance.
"AI" Said Sensei Kreese to start the fight. Mitch started off by delivering a kick to his opponent's nose. The athlete threatened him and things took a real turn for the worse for Mitch. He couldn't land anymore hits on this guy. He got flipped over and put in a choke hold and then he tapped out. Apparenty he forgot there was no tapping in karate.
Tory shook her head to wipe out that memory. That was a lesson from Sensei Lawrence, and Tory hated him.
The athlete got up, but Kreese said "Finish him" and he punched Mitch hard on the nose. He went back to his spot. Tory glared at him as he did so. She didn't want an asshole like him in the dojo. That curly athlete girl smirked a little at him. Mitch started to go to his spot as well but was stopped by Sensei Kreese.
"Where are you going?"
Uh oh. Tory knew what this meant.
"To my spot" Mitch said, confused.
"You lost to an untrained fighter. He's going to take your spot on the team" Sensei Kreese told him.
Mitch did not look like he wanted that to happen. Tory didn't want him to go either. He was annoying but he was loyal. He looked to Hawk who actually spoke up for him for once.
"Sensei, Ass-Face has been loyal to the dojo"
"I'm afraid he's not... Cobra Kai material. I told you only the strong will survive."
Mitch had no words. He looked back at Hawk and then at Tory. She had no words either. While she did not want this to happen, Sensei Kreese knew what was best.
But she was gonna miss Shit-Breath.
Soon it was Tory's turn to fight. Sensei Kreese had paired her to fight that curly haired athlete.
The girl tried to hit Tory, but she just grabbed her arm and turned her around. She got pushed back but then ducked at a hit coming from the athlete, then she kicked her face to make her fall. Then Tory quickly got up and kicked the girl in the mouth. She felt her mouth.
"You chipped my tooth bitch"
"You needed braces anyway" Tory responded to show she did not care. Besides, this girl definitely needed braces. Sensei Kreese complimented her and got rid of this girl, who glared at her, which did not faze Tory at all. Tory went back to her spot feeling satisfied.
"You. Big boy" Sensei Kreese said to the fat athlete.
Big Boy immediately went on the mat. "Oh yeah! Alright, who's going down next?" he asked Cockily.
Man, this guy is getting on her nerves.
"He's mine" Hawk said firmly after handing his flags to Big Red and walked onto the mat.
"Get him Lip" The tall athlete said, as if it was funny for Hawk to try and take on his friend.
"Alright, let's see if I can fix that lip of yours then" said Big Boy, who had no idea he was about to be kicked out of this dojo.
For some reason, Hawk had taken his gi off. Probably to show off his new grim reaper tattoo.
Sensei Kreese had Dieter put the flags down and signalled for Hawk to start the fight. He started off with a roundhouse kick to Big Boy's face, which confused Tory. He wasn't usually quite that harsh. Hawk kept on attacking him in the face and then grabbed him and kicked him in the chest a few times. Big Boy's lip started bleeding and he begged Hawk to stop, but Hawk just threw him to the ground and was told by Sensei Kreese to finish him. Tory isn't even sure that Hawk heard him.
He punched Big Boy three times in both eyes and then four times in the jaw, very aggressively. Sensei Kreese looked impressed, but Tory was just confused. Hawk would never do that to someone during practice. Tory saw him look at the tall athlete as of daring him to say something. But the guy just looked at the ground, even though he probably wanted to pound Hawk.
Tory could tell what kind of person Big Boy was to Hawk, from how badly he was hurting him and from the sounds he was making while hurting him. This guy had hurt Hawk horribly. Hawk needed to hurt him back to be able to get some closure for what he did.
Big boy was Hawk's Sam Larusso.
"Alright class, I think we can call it a day. Somebody pick him up" said Sensei Kreese before going to his office.
Tory certainly wasn't gonna pick him up. She went to get changed. When she came back, she saw Hawk looking like he'd achieved a lifelong dream. She went up to him.
"Are you ok?"
Hawk grinned at her. "Never better"
