I stride through the corridors
as silent as an owl,
Stalking,waiting for a student
To appear on my prowl
I climb the steps up to the tower
To watch a singular joy
Jupiter shining high above
More beauteous than Helen of Troy
Expecting to be alone,
I am taken aback when,
I detect muffled crying,
Now no hope of achieving zen
I prepare to give a scolding
And send the whiner away
I step onto the landing,
I then allow to stay
For as I lay my eyes
upon this trembling form
I realise with my mouth agape
She is not who I'd sworn
Quivering on a slippery ledge,
I vanish trace of a scowl
For here right before my eyes,
was the girl whose name I'd growl
I understand her intent
And hope desperately for a boy
Any of her meddlesome friends
To appear and shout 'Oi!'
Because I am not capable
I'm not one of those men
To even try to rescue
or, worse, comfort a hen
I stand frozen
And watch as she starts to sway,
Panic numbs my mind
I will not turn the other way
I lunge for her hand,
And release a pained howl
For she had also made a move,
one most foul.
