Naruto was not having a good day. He had just gotten back from a mission to retrieve the Bikochu Beetle from its nesting ground. The team consisted of Naruto himself, Hinata, Shino, and Kiba. He had unfortunately failed the mission by accidentally farting on the beetle. This led the beetle to track his scent instead of his friend Sasuke's.
"Man, this totally sucks!" Naruto said as he left the Tsunade's office with his friends behind him. They were trying to cheer him up a bit as he had a small dark rain cloud above his head. "That was my last chance to try and find Sasuke!"
"It's o-okay N-naruto," Hinata said as she patted her friend's shoulder. She knew how much he carried about bringing his friend home and would do anything in her power to try and make him feel better.
"Yeah man, you'll get him back!" Kiba chimed in as Akamaru barked and liked the blonde-haired boy.
"It is most logical that you will eventually see him again," Shino stoically responded as they made their way out of the tower.
"Thanks, guys," He glumly said to his friends as they all went their separate ways. "Hey, you guys wanna get some Ramen?" He asked as a smile spread across his face as he thought of his favorite food.
"I'm s-sorry N-naruto b-but m-my clan i-is d-doing s-something for Mother's Day." Hinata stuttered as she watched her friend's face drop ever so slightly.
"I also can not attend. I must go home and prepare a gift for my mother," Shino blankly spoke as he walked away towards the Aburame compound.
"Yeah, Hana and I have some things we have to do for mom. Maybe next time." Kiba explained as he and Akarmuru jumped onto the roof of a nearby building and started jumping away.
"Oh," Naruto sighed as he walked away for the Hokage's Mansion. He knew that it was Mother's Day but hated the holiday. He didn't have anyone to call mom so he didn't care about it that much. Though he knew that deep down he was jealous of everyone else.
"Why do they all get to spend time with their moms?" Naruto mumbled to himself as he walked down the road to Ichiraku Ramen. "I wish I had a mom to spend time with,"
Naruto turned the corner of a street and saw his favorite restaurant, Ichiraku Ramen. His face showed a large smile as he ran into the ramen bar. He jumped onto a stool and yelled for the owner who walked up to the counter.
"Hey Naruto!" He said as he brought out a notebook to take the boy's order.
"Hey Old Man! I'll have 3 bowls of beef ramen dattebayo!" The blonde shouted which made Teuchi smile.
"Alright Naruto, and happy Mother's Day." He said which made the boy frown. The chef however didn't notice and went to cook the boy's order. After a few minutes, the order was ready and he gave it to him.
"You know, Mother's Day isn't just for moms," Teuchi said to the boy who looked at him with a confused look in his eyes.
"What are you talking about Old Man? It's in the name." Naruto said in between bites of ramen.
"Well, Ayame is out with her old school teacher who she sees as a mother figure." He explained to the boy who nodded his head I understood.
"I don't even know what a mother or a mother figure is!" Naruto shouted which made Teuchi frown a bit.
"Well, they are people who take care of you, and who have your best interests at heart. They are those women in your life who you would call mom but they didn't give birth to you. She is someone that you can go to for support when you feel sad." Teuchi explained to the boy who by this point had stopped eating his ramen to pay attention to him.
"Hmm someone like that huh?" Naruto wondered as he looked at his bowl of salty noodles deep in thought.
The rest of his time spent at the Ramen shop. He sat and thought about who that could be to him and only had one person in mind. He then got the idea to get a card and gift for her and grinned. "Alright Old Man, I'm going!" He yelled after he paid for his food.
Once outside of the ramen stand, he walked to the nearest bookstore to find a card for her. He opened the door and was instantly hit by the scent of book and paper. He smiled as he walked over to the card section.
"Alright Naruto, you're looking for a Mother's Day card," He mumbled to himself as he perused the available section of cards.
"Hm, didn't think I'd see you in a bookstore Naruto,"
The now startled boy quickly turned around and saw his Jonin instructor looking at him from across the store. Kakashi was wearing his usual attire and was holding a small stack of orange books in his hands.
"Oh, Kakashi-sensei I didn't see you there!" Naruto shouted as he waved to the Jonin. "Are you looking for a Mother's Day card or gift for your mom?" He asked the man who gave a shrug of his shoulders.
"Nah, I already paid her a visit today so I was going to see if there were any new Icha-Icha books available." He said with his usual eye smile to the child.
"That's cool! I'm getting a card!" He smiled as he grabbed the card that he liked and went to the desk to pay for it.
Hmm. I wonder who it's for? The one-eyed man thought to himself as he saw the boy leave the store. He shrugged his shoulders while opening up one of his books and started to giggle.
Once Naruto exited the bookstore he made his way to his apartment and put down the card. He then walked to the middle of his apartment and bit his thumb. He then ran through hand seals and then slammed his hand on the ground. "Summoning Jutsu!"
Suddenly a large plume of smoke erupted in the room and a small toad appeared in the room. He was mostly orange and had deep blue markings on his body.
"Yo Naruto what's up?" The toad asked as he looked at the blonde who summoned him.
"Hey Gamakichi, I need you to do me a favor," Naruto said to the toad now identified as Gamakichi.
"What do you need?" He asked the boy.
"I need you to steal some of your dad's sake," Naruto said to the toad who looked at him like he was insane.
"Why?" The toad asked as he tried to think of how he could get a bottle of sake.
"I need it as a gift for someone special to me and I have this for you." He then held out a box of chips and candy.
Once Gamakichi saw the food he immediately said yes. He then disappeared back to Mt Myoboku. Naruto smiled to himself as he started filling out the card that was on the table. After 25 minutes, Naruto heard a poof and saw Gamakichi holding a large crate of Mt Myoboku sake.
"Alright here's your sake, can I have my snacks?" The toad asked as he eyed the large pile of food. Naruto nodded his head which made the toad smile. Naruto looked at the pile and saw that it was no longer there.
After an hour of Naruto writing in the card, he looked outside of his window and saw that it was dark outside. He groaned and grabbed the crate with the card. He left his apartment and ran towards his destination.
Tsunade was not enjoying her day so far. It was well past 10:30 when she finally finished all of her paperwork and writing meeting notes. She groaned to herself as she looked out the window of her office.
"Man, I hate this job sometimes," She mumbled to herself as she rubbed her wrist. She knew that it was Mother's Day but didn't really care since she never had and probably never will have any which she was fine with.
She had thought about her mom periodically throughout the day since she died in the First Shinobi War. She knew that she was fighting to protect her home, but it still hurt to lose a parent.
Tsunade was brought out of her thoughts by a knock on her office door. "Who in the world is coming here at this time of night?" She asked as she turned around at her desk.
"Come in!" She yelled as she prepared for yet another crisis that she was going to have to face. She was however suppressed when she saw her favorite Genin walk into her office.
"Brat, what are you doing here?" She asked as she looked at him with her eyebrow raised.
"Well, it's Mother's Day," he spoke as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment.
"Yes…" She said as she was getting even more confused.
"Alright look, I was talking to the Old Man Ichiraku and he said that I should get something for the Mother Figure in my life so I got you a card!" The boy said as he handed her a card.
Tsunade was stunned at the boy in front of her. Sure she thought of him as a son/grandson that she never had, but she didn't think that she would get anything on Mother's Day from him. She looked at the card in her hand and started reading.
Dear Baa-chan,
I guess I should start by saying thank you for being there for me. You always seem to know when I need a hug or when I need to get back on track. Thank you for believing in me all this time. It's nice to know that someone cares about me aside from Iruka-sensei. Thank you for being the mom I've never had. Thank you for all you do for me and the village. Thanks for being you!
Love,
Naruto Uzumaki
There were many things that Tusnade expected to do today, cry was not one of them. She looked from the card to Naruto and back several times before she got up from her desk and pulled the boy into a hug. She was so happy that he cared about her to this extent and was more than happy to be his mother figure.
After a few minutes, she pulled away from him and kissed his forehead. "Thank you Naruto," She whispered sweetly to the boy who blushed at the close contact.
"No problem Baa-chan, oh and I got you something!" He said as he ran out of the room. He then entered with the large crate of sake that he got from Gamakichi.
"Oh Naruto, you didn't need to get me anything!" She said as she looked at all the sake that he had gotten for her.
"Well, I wanted to get you something so I got you this!" He said with a wide smile on his face. "I hope you like it," he said as he looked at her.
"Sweetie, I love it! Thank you so much!" she said as she walked over and pulled him into another hug.
"I love you Kaa-chan," He said into her chest as he softly cried from all the affection that he was getting.
Tsunade hugged him a little tighter as she also let the tears fall freely. "I love you too son," she said as she kissed his forehand. "I love you too,"
