So...I kinda thought this kiss scene would be a bit easier to write. Turns out, though, that you can have a general idea of your setup, but without knowing the details, actually writing a story can take longer than expected. Oh well. It turned out fine in the end!

As always, if you like this scene, or have advice on how to write better ones, send me a review. I promise, reading your reviews is one of my favorite parts of this process!

Anyways, I hope y'all enjoy this one!

A heavy crosswind flew in Maple's face as her broomstick carried her through the skies above Holodrum. Below her, the country was laid out like a model landscape, stretching to the horizon in every direction save south, with the ocean reaching out to fill that portion of her view. She was high enough right now to see past the northern mountain ranges into the vast unexplored territory beyond. The sun was pleasantly warm at her back, as if to make up for the brisk crosswind her joyride was kicking up.

Maple breathed deep and smiled joyfully. To say she enjoyed flying was a major understatement. The young witch was good at making potions, and she was proving to be a quick study at hexing rituals. But flight was her passion, her favorite thing in the world. She'd typically spend hours each day on her broom, practicing old tricks, inventing new ones, pushing how far and fast she could fly. Because of her love of the art, she knew just about every inch of Holodrum and Labrynna; she'd even managed to make it all the way to the borders of Hyrule once.

She swooped down towards the ground, whooping ecstatically as she picked up speed, the surface rushing up to meet her, then speeding by below her as she levelled out. She was low enough now to make out the people walking around, going about their daily lives. Few paid her much heed - the sight of her flying was just that common around these parts.

As she began to slow down, she caught sight of a familiar figure wandering through the Natzu Prairie, and amended her previous thought. Flying was almost her favorite thing in the world.

Below her walked Link, a young adventurer who'd just recently come to Holodrum. Their first meeting had been less than ideal: she'd crashed into him on her broomstick when she'd not been paying attention. The impact had sent both of them to the ground, their belongings flying everywhere. Out of embarrassment, she'd grabbed up everything of hers she could and took off, only to realize that she'd picked up a few items that definitely weren't hers. So the next time she'd seen him, she deliberately rammed him, but subtly made sure he'd pick up an extra item or two. The lad seemed to take it all rather well, convinced it was all a jolly joke.

It had evolved into a bit of a game for them, actually. She'd crash into him just about every chance she got, and they'd see who could pick up more of the inevitable scattered gear while playfully teasing each other.

She still remembered the last time this had occurred; just about three days ago, she'd crashed into him and, in the scramble for items, remarked on how cute she found him to throw him off his game. The trick had worked; she'd come away with a few bombs, which weren't really of any use to her, save as amusing trophies of her victory that round.

Still, she'd been thinking quite a bit lately about what she'd said. She had, at first, been surprised to realize that her jibe, while it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, was actually completely honest. Link was energetic and playful, and always seemed to take things with a laugh. His boyish face and sparkling sapphire eyes certainly helped his charm as well.

Okay, so she was developing a bit of a crush on the mysterious young Hylian. It was pretty convenient, she realized now, that she'd made a game out of crashing into him. It made for a good way of initiating a relationship. Should she try it now?

She grinned. She rammed him every time she saw him. It would be weird if she didn't. So she angled her broomstick down once more, gathering speed as she approached him.

Link seemed to sense her and looked up when she was perhaps thirty feet away. His eyes went wide for a second, then, as she got within ten feet of him, he suddenly leaped straight up.

Maple wasn't expecting that. Neither was she expecting the shaft of her broom to pass between his legs, right before she slammed into him. The impact, rather than put the two of them on the ground, actually jarred the broom up, taking them both off the ground. She now found herself flying with much of her field of view blocked by Link's (admittedly pleasant-looking) face.

That went about as well as expected. They pitched upwards for a few seconds, then broke hard to the left from Link's shifting weight, then corkscrewed down.

They crashed perhaps fifty yards from where Link had originally been. Maple somehow remembered her plan and grabbed the front of his shirt as they hit the turf. The two of them rolled several feet away from her broom, and when they finally stopped, she was lying atop him, just as she'd planned, her face inches from his. But she was shaken up a bit from the unexpected loss of control, and Link looked terrified that he might be in trouble, so she got off him and helped him to his feet. "You okay Link?" she asked.

The blond Hylian nodded. "Sorry for jumping like that," he added, "I thought I was gonna take the end of the broom in my gut."

Maple shrugged. "Eh, nothing's broken," she replied nonchalantly. "Besides, how can I possibly get mad when I've got a face like yours to look at?" Link blushed hard at that comment, and she had to fight back a squeal as she realized that it made him look even more adorable. So she continued, "I mean, seriously, whoever your girlfriend is, if you've got one...she must be pretty lucky!"

Link's face was a rather endearing shade of red now, and he looked down and away as he mumbled "I...I've never had a girlfriend."

Maple was floored. "You've never had one?" she quipped incredulously. "Are the girls back home blind or something?"

Link shrugged. "Never really thought about dating, actually. Not until recently."

"Hmmmm...how recently?" Maple asked.

She was surprised when Link met her gaze again and, after a deep breath, answered, "About the time I first arrived here."

The implication was obvious, and it put a grin on Maple's face. Even more confident now, she stepped in close to Link, prompting him to step back a bit. "So," she said, "no girlfriends...Ever been kissed?" Link shook his head, blushing again as he realized where this conversation was going. Maple smirked. "I'd tell all the girls you grew up with that they're missing out, y'know...but then I wouldn't be able to do this!"

And so saying, she stepped into Link, grabbing and tugging on his hands to keep him from moving back again, before tilting her head and eagerly laying a kiss on his lips. To Link's credit, he figured out pretty quickly what was happening and puckered up in return.

He'd thought the young witch was just giving him a quick peck on the mouth. He was surprised when he tried to pull back that Maple gripped the back of his head to keep him in place as she held the kiss for several seconds.

They parted after that, and Maple raised a brow. "Didn't expect that?" she asked, and Link shook his head. "Well," she continued, "I guess you know to expect it now!" Without another word, she leaned back in. Link had figured it out now, and closed his eyes, leaning into Maple's kiss as he brought a hand up to caress her cheek. Realizing that her crush was giving in now, she started kissing him harder and deeper, even letting her tongue swipe across his lips for a brief moment. Her pulse quickened when he copied her.

It was Link, once again, who broke the contact. "I have to go clear out a temple," he said, his voice implying that he wished he could share more of those kisses with Maple.

She understood. "That's fine," she replied. "How 'bout when you're done, we could hang out in town?"

"Like a date?" Link asked, eyes lighting up.

Maple grinned. "Heck yeah," she answered. "It'll be nice to hang out without having to crash into you for once!"

The two of them chuckled at that, before Maple cupped Link's cheek and whispered, "One more for the road?"

Link pulled her close and kissed her softly in reply. "See you soon," he whispered as he pulled away.

"See ya cutie," Maple responded as she went to pick up her broomstick.
