The akumatized victim swung with more rage than any other before them. This was not a regular attack, something about the victim's anger felt all too real, not the anger that starts with a drop of its own which then is multiplied by Hawk Moth. No, what burned in this villain's gaze was pure bloodlust.
With a twist of my wrist, my yo-yo went flying, wrapping around the villain's ankle. I yanked the string taut, and the villain fell flat onto his back. Chat Noir raced towards him in a flying leap, his baton ready to strike.
I reeled my yo-yo back in, ready to attack after Chat Noir's hit, but something caught my eye. There was a glint in the villain's eye. Time seemed to slow as my gaze moved from the terrible smirk on the villain's face to the fist tightened on a small dagger behind his back. I foresaw exactly what would happen moments before Chat did.
"Chat Noir, no!" The scream escaped my lips just before it happened.
Chat Noir bringing his baton down upon the villain's sword.
The villain twisting out of the way, drawing Chat's attention away from the dagger.
Chat Noir's beautiful green eyes going wide with realization, and then with fear.
The dagger plunging through Chat Noir's chest.
"NO!" I sprung into action, rage spilling into my chest, fire lighting my gaze.
"Let's see how well you do without your kitty" The villain mocked as he dogged each and every attack.
My yo-yo got a grip of his ankle again, and this time I swung him around and sent him flying into a building. I heard a sickening crack as his head slammed into the building. I didn't stop, I ran to him, using my yo-yo to pin his arms to his side. His angry gaze was tainted with fear. Blood spilled out from under his hair.
I grabbed the dagger from his hand, still soaked with my Kitty's blood. My heart twisted and plummeted in my chest, before angry fire surged up again.
I held the dagger to his throat, the killing blow all too tempting.
"M'lady...don't" Chat Noir gasped out from behind me. At his voice, everything snapped back into focus. My Kitty was dying, the villain could wait.
I strung the villain up with my yo-yo before rushing over to where Chat Noir was bleeding out onto the pavement.
"No, no, no" I said, holding up his head. I traced my thumb along the bottom of his mask. Tears started to trail down my cheeks.
"You have...to stop...Hawk Moth" His eyes grew lazy even as they stared up into mine. Those beautiful green eyes, there was no way I would be able to move on if he closed them for good.
"You're going to stop him with me" I said through a sob, "We're partners, remember?"
"Always M'lady" he said with the shadow of a smile, even though tears flooded his eyes, "But I...I don't think I'll..be able to-"
"You are not going to die" I said firmly, "I can fix this." I struggled to bring my eyes to the bleeding gash in his chest. Dread settled in my stomach. Even my Miraculous ladybugs couldn't fix that.
"I love you, M'lady" he tried to reach for me but his hand trembled, I gathered it in my own and brought it to rest against my heart.
"I've always loved you Chat, in my own way." a sob caught on the next words, they sounded too much like a goodbye, but that's precisely what this was. A goodbye. "I couldn't ask for a better partner, Kitty."
He gave me another one of his smiles, and I wished it had come with one of his cat puns. I wished I could go back and tell myself to treasure each and every moment with him, because they were numbered, and it was counting down way too fast.
I bent down to plant a kiss on his forehead, and when I removed my lips from his soft blond hair, his eyes were closed. Chat Noir, my Kitty, was gone.
When he transformed back to his true identity, my heart dropped lower than I thought possible.
For in my arms, not only was my partner, and best friend, but also the love of my life, Adrien Agreste.
I screamed. I screamed for everything cursed and wrong in this world. I screamed for the loss of my Kitty. And I screamed for vengeance against Hawk Moth, the one who had taken everything from me, and now it was time for him to pay.
