I wanted to see You

Barry was running. Just as he had for the last few years. Running so fast, the people, the cars, buildings, they all blurred past him. He ran with a singular purpose in mind and a swirling blue portal opened up in front of him. Barry ran through it, traversing the chaos space between the infinitude of worlds, before landing on the streets of a very familiar city.

National City.

Barry ran to one of the few places he actually knew here. He knocked on Kara's apartment door, hoping she'd be home. To his relief, their was a click, and the door opened to show Kara, in a loose t-shirt and slackers, surprised but pleased.

"Barry? What are you doing here?" Kara asked with a smile.

"Hey Kara." Barry said, going in for a hug which Kara gladly returned, his voice noticeably tired. "I wanted to see you. Can I come in?"

"Yeah of course." Kara said, letting Barry in as she closed the door. She led him to the couch, plopping down herself and patting the area next to her for Barry to sit. "What is it Barr? Tell me. You don't look so good."

"Yeah well… Iris and I broke up." Barry said.

"Oh. I'm so sorry." Kara said, putting a tentative hand on Barry's shoulder. "What happened?"

"Well… long story." Barry said.

"You came here, right? We have plenty of time." Kara said, giving him a shoulder bump and a small smile.

"Well… a few months back, I went into the Speed Force, to save the city, and back then there was little to no hope of me returning." Barry started.

"Oh Rau, what?" Kara said with a look of shock.

"Yeah. Savitar, my evil time remnant which is sort of a clone created by time travelling, I'd supposedly trapped him in the Speed Force in a prison in the future. But when time came, our plans to take him down were a little messed up. Iris had to come shoot him, to save me. We were happy at first. But then, the Speed Force started creating a massive lightning storm all across Central. It was because the prison was empty, therefore becoming unstable. I went inside, never hoping to return."

"Rau, Barry." Kara gave Barry a quick hug, which he returned, before getting back to explaining.

"Well, I found out after coming outside that Cisco had always been working on a way to get me out. Meanwhile Iris had assumed command of Team Flash. Apparently she didn't even want to get me out at first."

"What? Why?" Kara said, confused. And a little angry at Iris.

"Apparently, since I'd told her to get used to life without me when I went to the Speed Force prison, she did. A little too well. Now, she says she feels too weird with me around." Barry shrugged.

"What? That doesn't make sense." Kara said in an incredulous tone.

"Maybe. Maybe she didn't love me as much I loved her. But the thing is, I don't think I loved her as much as I thought I did either." Barry said.

"What do you mean?" Kara asked.

"When it happened, I expected to be devastated. But I'm not. I feel sad, of course, but not devastated or depressed or broken. At this point, I'm a bit of a mess. Caitlin suggested I take some off, and the first place I thought of was here. You don't mind, do you?"

"Absolutely not, Barry. You're welcome here anytime and you can stay here as long as you need." Kara said, putting an arm around him.

"Thanks Kara." Barry said, looking at his Kryptonian partner.

Kara grabbed the remote to her TV. "Aladdin is on. Let's watch it together. I'll get some food." Kara smiled, although it appeared a little forced. That's when Barry suddenly noticed.

"Kara…" he said tentatively, as she stopped on her way to the kitchen, "where's Mon El?"

Kara's smile disappeared. "He's gone."

"Oh God. I'm so sorry. I've been rambling about myself without even thinking…" Barry started.

"No no it's fine. I want to help you. Besides you being here is helping me too." Kara smiled, genuinely.

"What happened?" Barry said, this time him being the one to gesture Kara to sit, patting the area on the couch beside him.

"What didn't happen?" Kara sighed, walking over and plopping down again, next to Barry. "End of the World."

"Faced it three times."

"Time travel."

"I've been there a lot."

"He's married to someone else."

"Oh… that's…" Barry tried, awkwardly, but this hadn't happened even to him. It was bad. "I got nothing for that, I'm sorry."

"I mean it's my fault. I keep forgetting that my life here should only be about Supergirl." Kara said, clearly down.

"Hey Kara that's not true. Everyone deserves a life. And it's okay to have love in your life." Barry said.

"It's different for you guys. You're human." Kara said, dismissively.

"And you're what? Other than an alien." Barry asked.

"Alone." Kara said, her face twitching. She was clearly breaking.

"Well you know what? So am I. So let's be alone together. Aladdin's on right now, right?" he said, speeding to her kitchen and fetching some cold pizza.

Kara smiled at her friend, before she finally surrendered. "Hey Barry?" Barry looked at her. "I'm sorry about Iris, but I'm really glad you're here."

"Me too." Barry smiled.

The two laughed lightly as they ate the leftover cold pizza, watching Aladdin and other musicals, knowing of the other's shared love for the genre. Without even noticing, Kara rested her head on Barry's shoulder, and he wrapped an arm around her. They watched Funny Face next, one of Kara's favorite films.

"Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn, and cold pizza. What else could we possibly need right now?" Kara joked seriously.

"Nothing at all." Barry agreed.

.

.

.

Barry opened his eyes groggily. It was morning. The sun shone through the curtains on the window to his left. He finally opened his eyes completely, and found Kara fast asleep on him, her head on his chest, her face inches away. Then Barry remembered last night. How they'd had a long good talk and had fun over musicals and pizza, and then they'd dozed off on the couch.

Barry looked at Kara. She was so adorable, her mouth open as she slept soundly. Of course, he felt awkward, being this close to her, with her body pressed up against his. But at the same time, he felt a certain comfort. Something he hadn't felt before.

He was snapped out of his thoughts when Kara began to stir, and opened her eyes, those bright blue eyes that stared in his own, and all he could think was…

God she's so cute

God he's so cute

Unbeknownst to Barry, the same thoughts ran through Kara's mind, as she stared at his deep emerald eyes. She felt so comfy, laying on top of him, his arms on her sides, when suddenly her phone rang.

"Oh, sorry." Kara said awkwardly, fixing her hair a little as she got off Barry, and picked up the call.

"Hey Alex. What's up?... Okay. Oh by the way, Barry's here. Yes. Alright." Barry heard Kara as she talked on the phone, clearly with her sister, Alex.

"What is it?" Barry asked Kara.

"Well Mon and his wife, Imra are trying to build their own time machine so they can go back to the future, where they've been living for the last months, or seven years for Mon." Kara said, shrugging as if it meant nothing to her.

"I could help them with that." Barry said. "Well only if you want me to."

"You can? That's great!" Kara said. "Let's go." She sped into the bedroom and came out with her suit on. Barry could tell that the smile she had on was forced.

"Kara, you don't have to force smiles around me. You know that right?" he said comfortingly.

"Yeah," Kara said, her smile slowly fading. "I do want them to find a way home. But it's weird, seeing the man I loved with someone else. Married, no less." She shrugged exaggeratedly, and that looked real. "But I think it's best they go back to their time. I think it'll be best if I don't see them together all the time as well."

"I get what you mean. So do I help them?" Barry asked.

"Yeah. Let's go." Kara said lightly. Barry nodded and put on his own suit in the blink of an eye, and the two sped off to DEO.

.

.

Kara and Barry came to a halt inside the DEO. Barry saw what appeared to be an older Mon, whom he remembered from the time he and Kara were whammied by the Music Meister. Next to him was a woman with, holding his hand, working on something. He assumed this was Mon El's wife. Opposite them was someone he recognized well.

"Winn!" Barry called out.

"Barry! My man! How are you?" Winn said as he saw Barry, walking to him with arms outstretched.

"Doing alright here, man." Barry said, accepting the hug. "Hey Mon."

"Barry." Mon gave a curt nod.

"Kara tells me you're building a time machine?" Barry asked.

"Yeah, well we're trying." Mon said.

"Well I have plenty of experience with time travel, so I might be able to help." Barry said.

"That's great. Oh, Barry this is my wife, Imra Ardeen." Mon said, gesturing to the woman beside him.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." She said, extending a hand.

"Same." Barry said, extending his own.

"Come on, Barry. Step into my lab and let's see what we've got." Winn said, ushering his old friend into his lab. Kara followed.

She watched as Barry and Winn discussed and worked on the time machine. They had such good synergy, getting along well since the first time they met, and being fellow nerds.

After a while, it looked like they'd made some progress

"Well we're going to need some quark matter. See you tomorrow." Barry said.

"Yep." Winn waved.

"You wanna get some food, Kara?" Barry said, going to where Kara was sitting.

Kara was in a sort of trance, watching Barry work on the thing that would send Mon El away, but she was snapped out. "Oh. Yeah sure. I feel hungry."

"Yeah thought so. Let's go to your donut place, shall we?" Barry said.

Kara smiled at this. "We shall." She nodded.

.

.

Kara opened the door to her apartment as she and Barry entered. They'd just eaten dozens of donuts and were tired from a day of work, Barry with the time machine and Kara with her articles.

"Hey." Kara turned to Barry's voice.

"Yeah?" she answered.

"You okay?" Barry asked.

"Yeah… I mean I'm probably not completely, but definitely better. Thanks to you." Kara smiled.

"Well you're having that effect on me too." Barry said, smirking.

Barry plopped on the couch, when Kara sped into the kitchen. Barry looked at her.

"Are you having chocolate?" Barry asked.

Kara froze. "I'm sorry I shouldn't have-" she began, thinking she'd embarrassed herself but was interrupted.

"I can't believe you aren't sharing!" Barry said as he ran I to the kitchen at super speed himself, standing in front of Kara expectantly.

Kara was a bit surprised, before laughing and giving him half the bar, as they bit into the delicious and sweet chocolate.

"We need to get more tomorrow." Kara said, finishing her half up.

"Agreed." She turned to see Barry had already finished his, going to the couch. "Well I'll go to sleep."

"Oh about that, sorry I fell asleep on you last night." Kara said sheepishly.

"Kara, relax. That was probably the best sleep I've had in quite a while." Barry said, running his hand through his hair. "Well, Goodnight Kara."

"Wait, what are you doing?" Kara said, as he was rearranging some of the pillows on the couch.

"Oh did you not want me to move the pillows?" Barry said, getting a little flustered. "I'm sorry, I'll-"

"Barry," Kara interrupted, "you're not sleeping on the couch again. It's bad enough I made you sleep there once. You are going to sleep in a proper bed."

"But you don't have another bed. Wait… you're sharing with me?" Barry asked, slightly surprised.

"Yes. Unless you don't want to sleep with me. I mean wait! Not sleep with me, I mean-" Kara suddenly began stuttering, having realised what she just said.

"Kara," Barry interrupted this time, "I don't mind. I was just worried I'd make you uncomfy, or maybe displace you."

"No it's no problem Barry. If anything, sleeping next to you would probably help me sleep better, just as it did last night." Kara said, blushing slightly, remembering waking up on him in the morning.

"Okay." Barry smiled.

The two made their way to the bed, climbing under the covers from either side. At first, they laid on their back, keeping just a little distance between each other. Then they started fidgeting a little.

Kara wondered if rolling towards him and being in contact with him would make Barry uncomfortable. She'd never cursed her awkwardness more than she was now, and she just couldn't decide what to do.

Barry was thinking the exact same thing. It was palpable, the awkwardness between the two.

Finally, they both mustered their courage, and rolled over, at the same time. Barry was surprised to see Kara turn towards him, fitting snugly in front of him, her forehead near his chin. He saw Kara looking at him, those bright blue eyes gazing at him, mesmerizing him.

Kara felt warm, fuzzy inside, as she put her hands between her and Barry, resting them on his chest. She closed her eyes and leaned into him, her face fitting in the crook of his shoulder and neck, and she felt a pair of arms wrap around her body, over her arms, as if keeping her steady, keeping her safe. It's true, she hated feeling vulnerable, but she felt better than she had in months. She felt her lips tug up into a smile, as both she and Barry drifted off into a deep sleep, snug and comfy with each other.

And so begins my first real SuperFlash fanfic. They're my favorite ship so I'm going to take my time on this one. I cannot mess this up at any point, or I will hate myself. Established the timeline here, it goes forth from The Flash S4 and Supergirl S3. I feel like SuperFlash fanfics start too often from World's Finest, so I decided to do it a little different. Also, like I've said before, I don't like the Reign and Worldkiller arc, so I won't be going into that here either.

A couple notes on changes here: Team Flash already has Frost now. The Bachelor and Bachelorette party didn't happen, of course, since Barry and Iris didn't work out. Frost just realised she didn't want to be all that evil after Savitar. Also, this isn't happening right after The Flash Reborn, it's been some time since Barry came out of Speed Force and found out he and Iris aren't going to work anymore. It's been some time, and after some thought, Caitlin and he decide he needs time off, and he goes to Kara.

Don't be too harsh on me, but do review to let me know what you like or don't like, or if you think there's something wrong. And enjoy! Peace!
