A/N: I figured I would just post this now, instead of waiting until I've written Chapter 2, because I have a headache and it's affecting my writing (this chapter alone took nearly four days). I'll have the second chapter up as soon as my headache goes away, hopefully that won't be too long.
In other news, I haven't found the It movies anywhere, but I've been doing the next best thing and finding as much as I can about the plot and such of the movies. When I think I have enough, or I find and watch the movies, then I'll post the first chapter (provided the story idea I have will work).
I do not own "Alpha and Omega", only my own OC's.
Chapter 1 - Heartbroken
Humphrey's POV
I couldn't believe what was happening. We go on a whole adventure together, having fun and daring escapades, but when we return home, I find out she's marrying some stranger and there was nothing I could do about it. I thought we had a good thing going during our trip and I also thought that I had my puphood friend back, but she was just using me to get home. It seems even after I saved her from that mudslide, something I doubt any Alpha would've been able to do, she still doesn't care about me. Whatever happened to "friends to the end"? Or "never hide the truth from your friends"?
Okay, I admit, that second one is iffy, sometimes I had to hide some truths from my friends to avoid being kicked out of the pack. Mainly my crush on Kate until they inadvertently found out when they stumbled upon me daydreaming about her one day, but still! She could've told me that she was marrying an Eastern mutt to unite the packs as part of her responsibility to the pack.
"Responsibility to the pack." I muttered, sarcastically, as I lay in my den with my thoughts, "yeah, that's what it was."
I knew Winston. He would've given her a choice whether to marry Barf or not, the only reason he even suggested the notion to her, was because it was an easy way to unite the packs, a whole lot less politics. No, she chose him, that's all there is to it, she doesn't care about me, she only cares about her duties to the pack. Like, what does Barf have that I don't?!
He's strong, my thoughts said, and he's as big as a moose.
I scoffed, "probably as dumb as a moose." I muttered to myself, "I'm probably smarter than him."
As an Alpha and the future leader of the pack, Kate would want a strong Alpha male as her mate, my thoughts said, he would be able to protect her.
"I can protect her." I said to myself, "I proved that at the mudslide, didn't I? Would Barf be able to do what I did then?"
"Who are you talking to, Son?" Winston asked, then I looked up to see him standing in the entrance of my den.
"Uhh, no one, Sir." I answered, sitting up, "I was just talking to myself."
"Alright, do you mind if I come in?" Winston asked.
"Umm, no, I don't mind." I said, then he entered my den and sat down across from me, "something you need?"
"I would like your help, Humphrey." Winston said.
"You want…my help, Sir?" I asked, incredulously, "but, I'm just an Omega."
Winston chuckled, "I'm asking as a friend, Son." he said, "not as your superior."
"Oh, well, then what is it?" I asked.
"This whole thing with Kate's arranged marriage…I can tell she doesn't want to go through with it, but every time I confront her about it, she just says she's fine with it and I don't have to worry." Winston explained, "I want her to be happy more than anything and I know she's not happy with this, even though she says she is. So, can you talk to her?"
I stared at him with a shocked expression, "me?" I asked, "why?"
"She listens to you, Son." Winston answered, "if anyone can talk to her, you can."
Winston got up to leave, but I spoke up, "my whole life you've been calling me 'Son', why?" I asked.
Winston smiled, "ever since Kate found you and Skye took you in, I've always thought of you as the son I never had." he said, "you know that."
I smiled slightly at that thought, as Winston left, then I sighed, well, I guess I should at least give Kate my best wishes on her…marriage, I thought to myself.
I got up, stretched, then left my den and headed towards the Alpha den, where I knew Kate was getting ready for her wedding.
Kate's POV
I couldn't help, but think about the adventure Humphrey and I shared over the past few days. It was…fun, to say the least, but something kept nagging at me from the back of my mind. Down in the valley, the wedding was being prepared and wolves were just starting to show up. Not only was it a union of two wolves, but it was also a union of two packs, hopefully ushering into an era of peace. I looked down into the valley and was surprised at how many wolves were showing up, "wow, that's a big crowd." I said.
"Yeah, good times." Lilly replied, as she brushed my tail with a pinecone.
"So I heard you and Garth spent some time together." I said, then Lilly suddenly jerked the pinecone and pulled a few strands of my fur out.
"Oww! Lilly!" I exclaimed, as I turned my head towards Lilly.
"Sorry." Lilly replied, sympathetically, her voice muffled by the pinecone in her mouth.
I turned my attention back towards the crowd of wolves in the valley, "I'm sure he's perfect marrying material." I said.
I heard a frustrated grunt, then a loud crunch behind me, "well, if you like that sort of thing." Lilly said, "big, brawny, and…perfect."
I looked back towards Lilly and saw she had her bang of fur pulled back, "Lilly, you're wearing your fur back!" I exclaimed, happily.
"Sorry. I know!" Lilly cried, as she moved her bang back in front of her face, then ran into the den.
"But, I liked it." I said, as I walked after her, but a small rock suddenly landed at my feet.
"Right on the pin." Paddy said, as he and Marcel flew down to greet me.
"Marcel! Paddy!" I exclaimed, then held out my forelegs for a hug.
"When it comes to hugs, we are all French, eh, Paddy?" Marcel said, as he accepted my hug.
"Well, I'm English, so we don't…" Paddy said, then I pulled him into the hug, "...hug!"
I let them go and they smoothed out their feathers, "but for a first, I'd say that was a good one." Paddy added.
"I'm so happy to see you two." I said, happily.
"We flew in to see that you made it home." Paddy replied.
"And what do we find?" Marcel said, "voila!"
"You're getting married!" Paddy and Marcel exclaimed in unison.
"Yeah. I'm getting married." I replied, "who told you?"
"I did." Humphrey said, as he approached.
"Humphrey." I said.
"We should be going." Paddy said, as he ushered Marcel away.
"Yes, yes." Marcel replied, then the two fowl flew off. Humphrey and I stared at each other nervously, neither of us saying a word.
Humphrey started scratching his ear, "excuse me. A flea." He said, then pulled out a purple flower from behind his ear, just like the one I wore at the Moonlight Howl.
"Here's a little something for your big day." Humphrey said, putting the flower in my fur.
"Thank you." I replied with a smile.
"Just wanted to say good-bye." Humphrey said suddenly.
"Good-bye?" I asked, confused.
"Yeah. I'm thinking about doing a little traveling, you know, seeing where the train takes me." Humphrey explained, "and maybe I'll visit our friends the bears."
Humphrey put his paws up to his face and mimicked a growled, "our old buddies, see how they're doing." He finished, "I'll tell them you said hi."
"Wait. But you're leaving Jasper?" I asked, shocked.
"Yeah. You know, it's a lone wolf thing." Humphrey answered, as he nonchalantly moved his paw through the dirt.
"I know Humphrey, the fun-loving Omega," I said, "not Humphrey, the lone wolf."
"So I'll be a fun-loving lone wolf." Humphrey replied, then slowly walked away.
"I don't doubt that." I muttered, after he disappeared. I lowered my head in sadness and noticed Humphrey had scribbled something into the dirt. There was a crude drawing of Humphrey and I howling together and underneath it said, "you always have a choice".
"Dear?" Mom asked, then I hastily brushed the drawing and message away before she could see it and I looked up to see her and Dad climbing up the slope to the Alpha den.
"Oh, hey, Mom." I said.
"You ready to go, Sweetie?" Mom asked.
I nodded, "I'm ready." I said, "let's go."
"Kate, you don't…" Dad said, "if you don't want to…I understand."
"It's okay, Dad." I replied, "it's my responsibility."
"That's right, Dear." Mom said, "now, let's get going."
I followed Mom down the slope, but Dad placed a paw on my shoulder, stopping me in my tracks. "Please, Kate." He said, "don't worry about the pack, I want you to be happy more than anything."
I stared into his eyes and saw…desperation, "Winston!" Mom shouted, "leave our daughter alone and come on!"
Dad sighed, then we followed after Mom towards the Ceremonial Rock, where the packs were waiting. We approached the Ceremonial Rock and Dad sat down beside Tony with a courteous nod, while I stepped up onto the rock and stood in front of Garth.
"So…" Garth said, "are you ready?"
"Yes." I answered.
"Good." Garth replied, as he nervously shuffled his paws.
"Are you okay?" I asked, worried.
Garth chuckled, "ah-ha. You bet." He answered, "no problems on this end."
"Ready to go, go, go." He continued, as he crouched down and looked behind me through my legs, then stood back up, "so, you want to start this thing or me?".
"We'll start together." I said.
"Start together. Yeah." Garth replied, then my mind suddenly started screaming at me, while we started circling around each other.
What are you doing?! My mind exclaimed.
I'm fulfilling my responsibility to my pack. I thought, as I accepted Garth's musky Alpha scent, while he accepted mine, it's what my father expects.
But is it what he wants for you? My mind asked, as Garth and I stopped circling and stood across from each other, he wants your happiness more than anything.
I'm an Alpha. I thought, our responsibility to the pack comes before our own happiness.
Is that why you brushed off Humphrey? My mind asked, as Garth and I leaned in and nibbled each other's ears.
What? I didn't-. I thought, but my thoughts were interrupted by…well, my thoughts.
Don't deny it. My mind said, ever since you've returned from Alpha School, you pretended he didn't exist, remember what you did at the Moonlight Howl?
Garth and I pulled away from nibbling each other's ears, as I realized I haven't been very nice to my puphood friend recently. That's right. My mind said, you broke his heart.
I…I-I didn't have a choice. I thought.
You always have a choice. My mind replied. I immediately remembered back to the drawing Humphrey scribbled in the dirt and the message, "you always have a choice".
He loves me, doesn't he? I thought, as Garth and I leaned in to rub noses and seal our marriage. I glanced over to my parents and sister, who sniffed and I could've sworn Dad winked at me.
What do you think? My mind said, but do you love him back?
Garth's nose was slowly getting closer to mine… Yes. I thought, then backed up before I rubbed noses with Garth. Garth's eyes were closed, then he waved a paw in front of him, and opened them to see me with a nervous expression on my face. "Kate, what are you doing?" He asked, curiously.
"I…" I said, nervously, "I can't."
Humphrey's POV
I was running alongside the train tracks, as a train was rumbling by, "do you think I can make it?" I asked the two fowl flying above me.
"Yes, Sir, and just as you hit the tracks, you should see an open train car." Paddy said.
"Well, avoid truck stops, bears, and that hideous dessert." Marcel added, "what is it called?"
"Cupcakes, Sir." Paddy answered.
"Yes, cupcakes." Marcel said.
"I will. Thanks, guys." I replied, then they flew off. The train rounded a corner and I saw the open train car come into view. A memory suddenly flashed into my mind and I saw Kate and I sitting beside each other in the open train car, howling.
No! I thought to myself, shaking the memory out of my head, she doesn't care about you, just forget her!
I reached the train car, then quickly jumped in and laid down to watch the scenery go by. The valley came into view and I could see the entire pack gathered in the middle for Kate and Barf's wedding, "I hope you're happy, Kate." I muttered.
Tony's POV
"I…" Kate said, nervously, "I can't."
"You can't!" Garth exclaimed, while doing a fist pump, then immediately recomposed, "I mean, you can't?"
"What is this, Winston?" I asked, "why can't she marry Garth?"
"Quiet." Winston said, making me shut up, then he walked over to Kate.
"Kate, Kate. Why can't you marry Garth?" Winston asked.
"Because I, ah-ha, I, uh…" Kate stammered, "I fell in love with an Omega."
Eve fainted after hearing that, "an Omega?" Winston asked, surprised, but I could tell he was faking his shock.
I chuckled, as I approached them, "an Alpha in love with an Omega. That's against Pack Law."
"Dad." Garth said, getting my attention.
"I also am in love with an Omega." He said, as he walked towards Lilly, who gasped.
"What?!" I exclaimed, "what have you done to my son, Winston?"
"An Omega and an Alpha? An Alpha and an Omega?" Winston muttered, as Eve sat back up, then he turned towards her.
"Eve, help me out." He said, then Eve fainted again.
"This is madness. This isn't our custom." I growled, "this isn't our way. Take the valley!"
My pack snarled at the Westerns and the battle ensued, while the Omegas from both sides cowered in their groups. I noticed Garth was protecting Lilly, even from the members of our own pack.
"Stampede! Stampede!" Kate suddenly shouted, then I looked up to see a herd of caribou stampeding towards both packs.
"Everyone, run!" Winston shouted, "run!"
"To the sides of the valley!" I shouted, then the packs ran to safety with me following Winston. My back suddenly cracked and I couldn't move, Winston turned around when he noticed I was no longer following him.
The stampede was getting closer, "aaahhh! It's that darn disk in my back. Aaahhh!" I groaned.
Winston slammed his paw on my back and the disk repositioned itself, "come on!" He said.
We tried to run to the side, but the caribou had caught up to us and cut us off, trapping us. The caribou surrounded us and we were forced to try to outrun the stampede.
You did this, Tony. My mind said, if you weren't so stubborn, you and your friend wouldn't be in this situation and your son could've been happy.
Shut up! I thought.
"Faster, Tony! Faster!" Winston shouted. I was beginning to slow down and the stampede was catching up, when Winston got my attention, "look!" He shouted.
I looked up and saw Kate flying through the air in a…log? Her log crashed onto the ground in front of us and she was thrown out a few feet. Winston and I took the opportunity and ducked behind the log, then the caribou stampeded over us, while Kate crawled towards us to safety. She was suddenly hit in the head by a caribou hoof and fell to the ground unconscious.
"Kate!" Winston shouted, then without thinking, I jumped out and covered Kate's body with my own to protect her. My back cracked and I grunted in pain from every hoof that hit me until finally the caribou disappeared. I was in extreme pain, but I managed to drag myself off of Kate, while I heard Winston run over, "Kate?" He asked, worriedly.
I heard growling and immediately knew Eve had arrived and is probably assuming I hurt her eldest daughter.
"I'll kill you!" She growled, but I heard Winston stop her.
"No, Eve." He said, "he saved her."
I heard Eve calm down, "oh, well, that was quite nice of him." She said, passively, then I heard groaning coming from nearby me.
"Kate?" Winston asked, hopeful.
"Dad?" Kate asked, "what happened?"
"Dad!" Garth suddenly shouted, then a few moments later, I felt a presence rush towards me.
Garth's POV
I rushed towards my dad, who was laying beside Kate with many cuts and bruises across his body. "Dad! Speak to me." I said.
Dad grunted, then slowly opened his eyes and looked up at me, "Son." He groaned, "I'm sorry."
"It's alright, Dad." I said, "let's just get you some help."
"It's not alright, Garth." Dad replied, "I think this is the end for me."
"No, it's not." I said.
"Garth…" Dad said, "I haven't told you about your mother."
"You said she died in a hunting accident." I said, "what more is there to tell?"
"She was an Omega when I met her." Dad said and I gasped.
"What?" I asked, shocked, "why would you break the Pack Law like that?"
"Same reason you defied me and protected Lilly." Dad answered, "we loved each other and wanted to be together, so she trained to be an Alpha."
I saw a tear fall down his face, "it's my fault she's gone, she wanted to just run with me, but being the Pack Leader's son at the time, I…couldn't, so I said I would help her out in Alpha School." Dad explained, "if I just ran off with her, she wouldn't have died during that hunt."
"I'm sorry for making…you marry someone…" Dad continued, but he started losing consciousness, "you…didn't…love."
"Dad?" I asked, but I realized he stopped breathing.
"No." I muttered, then raised my muzzle to the sky and let out a mournful howl. Everyone else joined in, giving a requiem for the fallen Pack Leader. I lowered my muzzle after a few minutes, as tears streamed down my face, and silently cried to myself.
"Garth, I'm sorry." Kate said.
I shook my head, as I wiped away the tears on my face, "it's not your fault, Kate." I replied, then whispered, "it was his own choice."
"Garth." Winston said, "I imagine you don't want to hear this right now, but with Tony's death…you're now the Eastern Pack Leader."
I nodded in understanding, "I know." I replied, "and I'm abolishing that law, no if's, and's, or but's."
Winston nodded and I could've sworn he briefly smiled, "b-but you can't do that!" Eve exclaimed, then looked at Winston, "can he?"
"It's his pack now, Eve." Winston said, "his rules."
"And…you agree with him?" Eve asked.
"I do." Winston answered.
I smiled, then faced Lilly, who was sitting beside Eve, "Lilly…" I started, but she immediately tackled me to the ground.
"Yes." She said, then rubbed noses with mine and the packs howled in celebration.
A/N: Well, that was just a recap of a scene in the movie with some changes for this story. I have to thank AlphaSnow for posting the official script of the movie, I found it a couple weeks ago, even though it was posted about 8 years ago. So, most of the dialogue in this chapter was from that.
I'll post the next chapter as soon as I can and please Review.
Till next time,
